>Hiring rate is as low as late 2008

We're now reaching a point where more and more people are getting kicked to the curb so companies can inflate their stocks and prevent the inevitable from happening for a slightly longer time. The worst part is when it does pop they'll have to throw so much more money into the system that we'll go through another high inflation surge coupled with a shit economy.

It's nuts to me that the average age to purchase a home is now 40 and rent for an apartment is about as much as a mortgage. My parents took out a loan for their current home in the early 2000s, and their mortgage is six-hundred dollars! I really wonder where we're going in the next ten, twenty years. An economic collapse has never felt closer, stocks have never been more overvalued, yet the federal reserve might just keep pumping more money into the economy as capital gets misallocated into the pockets of the wealthy while the remaining population fight for the high-salary jobs that haven't been off shored.

Living in debt i cant pay off for the first time ever, and likely facing even more before I can deal with it... im used to having cash on hand but I don't have any right now. It's given me a new perspective, this constant anxiety, this ever-present thought in the back of my head that im close to being completely fucked, it won't even let me sleep.

This truly is hell.

I swear, when I claw myself out of this, I will never frivolously spend again. I will save and invest absolutely every penny I can spare. I never want to feel or live this way again. I don't know how the many, many people in this country who live beyond their means do it. I don't know who they think is going to swoop in to save them when their head dips below the water, but I have nothing of the sort...

>Peter Thiel dumps top AI stock, stirring bubble fears

Billionaire Peter Thiel’s latest 13F didn’t show off a mere trim, but a full-blown exit from AI bellwether Nvidia (NVDA).

It comes at a surprising point when Wall Street’s been busy declaring the chipmaker as virtually untouchable.

Although Nvidia recently surpassed a $5 trillion valuation, Thiel walked away completely, shrinking his fund’s equity book by roughly two-thirds while building it around three megacap names.

That’s far from being a rebalance and more of an emphatic statement.

Thiel had previously warned about AI’s hype cycle running far ahead of its real economics, and his Q3 portfolio shakeup aligns with that view.

Thoughts?

>does it not indicate that AI is still a long way from being profitable?

The question is not whether or not AI is profitable.
AI is profitable, some companies make money off it. Like they do with toilet seats, screws, breakfast cereal, roofing materials, mousepads, etc.

The question is whether this justifies current trillion-dollar valuations and the rush to build giant data centers. My guess is: most likely not.

Thing is fomo is a real thing not just some emotional fallacy. Sitting on the sidelines to get a better idea of how ai will play out and who will make money with it isnt an option. The more sure the outcome becomes the less reward there is. Point is money will keep flowing into the ai bubble for a long time because theres no other option.

I don't think civilian AI is the reason behind all the money. I think is more about DOD AI/counter AI/hacking/counter hacking in preparation for upcoming wars with China, Russia, Iran and others if it happens. PLTR was given an award for its software to help Ukraine early in the war with Russia to help monitor all of Russia's actions and develop counter measures and attack plans. China has the money and technical resources to compete with the US on this front and the US is trying to surround China with military bases, subs, satellites.

Tons of people are hyping military AI, but we're not really seeing much, if any, of that in Ukraine.

The current AI revolution is about LLMs that can generate something they've been trained on. This works great to generate text, art, porn, etc. Or to regurgitate stuff it's learned from reddit or Wikipedia.

Right now I don't think there is a killer app related to military AI. It's mostly a bunch of Silicon Valley types trying to hype their bags in the hope a greater fool buys them (whether it's wall street or the federal government).

Palantir is a glorified ERP by the way, and I think Burry is right to short it to death.

because its secret....shhhhhhh... What is going to fly all those unmaned drones, fighters, bombers and guided missiles? Trump talked about the need for the golden dome missile shield like the one that failed in Israel. Satellites, space based weapons like lasers and particle beams will all need to be integrated and automated. The fighters like the F-35 will have the compute power for all that needed for fighter drones that accompany it, it will all be from these data centers doing the calculations and feeding real time info/instructions plus counter measures for jamming. The LLM is just basic tard stuff for making stupid memes

Help me work something out regarding my holdings in Canada:

1. USMCA Threat: The USMCA is the backbone of the Canadian economy. The 2026 of the USMCA review will be a high-stakes and protracted negotiation where the US will use unprecedented leverage to force concessions on dairy, auto, and energy - sectors central to the Canadian economy. This places a cloud of strategic uncertainty directly over Canada that is very unlikely to be resolved with the US primaries going on.

#BUT#

2. CBAM Threat & Opportunity: The EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) will, from 2026, impose a levy on high-carbon imports of iron, steel, and aluminium. Canada's aluminium sector is overwhelmingly powered by low-carbon hydroelectricity. CBAM therefore gives Canadian producers a "decisive edge" in the EU market over high-carbon rivals.

So what's the play here? I was bullish on Canada fixing its internal market to trade.

Vast majority of tax revenue is collected from the wealthy. Poor people are all net recipients of tax dollars. Neck yourself. Wealthy don’t pay taxes on UNREALIZED gains, poor people don’t know what this means so they assume they pay zero. Again, neck yourself.

Nah the government is actually behind on this stuff. Largely they are using it for intelligence gathering but they are only now getting some ok targeting systems (which is atrocious because good image recognition has been around for a long time). You can gauge where they are at by how they apply the public facing tech. I can tell you the question that is probably bouncing around the general's heads: "if we let the ai fire the gun and it wipes out another wedding am I to blame?"

I'm still trading the S&P on web3. It's not going to die just because the price of crypto crashes. The price of crypto is in fact rather irrelevant for the whole ecosystem. The cheaper crypto, the cheaper the transactions. The only ones who get fucked are those that speculate on the price of every fuckin coin to go up into infinity. The cheaper a coin is the more people can actually buy it and, as said, the cheaper the transactions and everything, the more can participate.
>>
>>61336115

Solana is an example, which I didn't use because a fuckin transaction was 0,0025 Solana (~100b MCcap) or so, and that's like 1$. And I don't see why I should pay that. Then there's other tokens like Aptos, that still had 5 billion in FDV (not all tokens were unlocked) but a transaction was like 0,0001$, so basically free. But the ecosystem of Aptos isn't as well built like Solana. Currently I'm mainly using Base or Arbitrum, which operate on Ethereum as gas. So, if Ethereum is cheaper, my transactions will also be.

You want crypto for transactions but at the same time pump the price of them by pumping the price of the token? It's a bit twisted.

Money to the fund managers for selling covered calls on your behalf.
Limited upside exposure which is just about the worst thing possible for semis.
Uhh, what else... returns that always underperform the underlying assets over time.
Covered calls are for betting the market will go sideways or be mildly bullish.

It's unfortunate that financially illiterate people get tricked into these scam funds. I have a friend that won't see reason and is now losing 5% every month.

The use case seems to be for people who have zero idea how or when to take profits, so they get "paid" forcefully no matter the market conditions, which is actually worse than owning the underlying and selling shares at random.

>>61336887
Yes. I mean it can technically be profitable for the baggie, just in a "please make me automatically underperform the market and I'll pay you for the privilege" sort of way.

You will lose everything to NAV erosion if you don’t stop your degeneracy. You know Yieldmax is reverse splitting 12 funds at the end of the month?

MSTY is not one of them but I bet they reverse it within the next five - six months. GTFO before you are raped and gaped. Even though reverse splits generally don’t mean shit, with high yield CC ETF’s you are being over extended on break even.

Normies are going to read the news and sell off this week. Personally I am excited to watch the carnage.

>M2

>Why does it seem like everyone expects NVDA to shit itself with earnings?
Because their sales come from only a handful of customers (MSFT, GOOG, META, ORCL, AMZN)
These customers' Q3 reports all clearly indicate that the amount of money they were spending on CapEx is decelerating.
However NVDA's guidance (and wall street expectations) anticipates that these customers' CapEx spending will only keep increasing every quarter for the next 5 to 10 years, and then will plateau to be more or less stable (but extremely high) constant CapEx requirements as they "buy chips to replace old chips".
Add to this that NVDA is priced at a point where it need to meet it's earlier guidance model (ie increasing CapEx spending from big customers every quarter) EVERY QUARTER FOR THE NEXT 20 YEARS (and China, which was part of that earlier guidance model, is no longer buying).
So there is a high chance that NVDA will actually miss earnings.
And there is a slightly lower chance that NVDA will meet or barely "beat" earnings. They'll probably aim for a conference smokescreen and try to keep the stock price above $190, but it won't work because too many people are going to take profit.
NVDA is a stock buyback machine: they have no dividend, so people will assume that NVDA will buy their stock at somewhere above $190 but it can probably fall to under $180 without causing a panic, and most likely will because it'll be easier to keep the price artificially elevated.
And there is NO WAY that they will be able to report "blowout earnings" or a "strong beat". If they can manipulate the price up high enough BEFORE earnings they might be able to barely touch $200 in off-hours, low-volume trading when it's cheap enough for them to pay for that candlestick.
So really it's a question of "miss" or "limp meet", neither of which will cause a surge.

>you now remember web3, NFT, VR and meta verse.
VR is good though, Steam just announced Steam Frame (their new VR headset which I think could be quite revolutionary) and I can't wait to get it! I just hope that it'll cost less than 1000€, ideally less then 500€ around 400€ for the Steam Frame and 600€ for the SteamCube so that you can get both, as they are intended to work together, for under 1000€.
