Yes, you have to love all these now or do you want to be a TRAITOR?

If I had to guess, Trump knows that Nvidia is fucked, and later today he's going to announce that the government is going to take a stake in their stock. I think people just need to put things into perspective. People are too fixated on intelligence when they can't define it in the first place. I like this specific question, because it pulls off the blindfold that people have. It originates from the so-called "grandfather of AI" Geoffrey Hinton.

What does it mean to understand something? What is the language model actually doing? How is any of it different than understanding?
The current AI models are really capable understanding machines. They understand language on a superhuman level.

Ai is like you had trillions of monkeys typing out single words . And the computer just organizes those single word typing monkeys into groups that tend to come after one another . And now when you query it , it just generates groupings of monkeys typing single words that usually cone together . Its fancy, but not smart.

Every AI model right now is undergoing a mass hallucination problem, it's not just Gemini, ChatGPT has become virtually braindead.
It's a combination of factors. One of which are that guardrails effectively lobotomize an LLM, and the more you add the more lobotomies you give it. Researchers proved ages ago that even a tiny amount of guardrails can have disastrous consequences.

The other is that NVidia, for all their bluster about selling new chips, have been selling the fastest and hottest chips that roll straight off the assembly line, and this has been happening since at least last year.
https://www.tomshardware.com/tech-industry/artificial-intelligence/faulty-nvidia-h100-gpus-and-hbm3-memory-caused-half-of-the-failures-during-llama-3-training-one-failure-every-three-hours-for-metas-16384-gpu-training-cluster

Nvidia having reliability problems on its hottest selling products has been a /g/amer meme since the ancient times when their graphics cards were burning houses down. They have always sold first and ask questions later, only now even a single chip can create huge problems for all of its agents since we're all sharing the same hardware.
>>
>>61467129
If we knew that, do you think we would tell you?

Nah I'm kidding, profit short-term. It's going to be the most hawkish cut today and you're going to see the pump of a life-time for at least until closing.

Yeah, the problem is that this current consumer paradigm is a pretty gimmicky use of language models. Arguably, there's no difference between the model "hallucinating" and giving a "correct" output. It doesn't "know" anything outside language.

It would have been SOOO much better to diversity LLM technology as a combination of consumer hardware that everyone can afford, and datacenter hardware for larger, more specialized projects suitable for larger companies and the medical industry. LLMs right now are virtually useless unless you have one for yourself. Computing technology has always moved toward lightweight consumer hardware as opposed to massive datacenters, and the fact all of these hardware companies at one time have decided to spurn the consumer market feels like a suicide pact.

Right now, I can run this thing: https://huggingface.co/rahulholla1/mistral-stock-model on a 1080ti only slightly slower than the market. People would be more bullish on LLMs and thus be more inclined to buy into the ecosystem if they could see them as their own personal tools instead of strange voices in the cloud which are wrong most of the time. The problem is that I don't think any of the businessmen who created the computer boom of the 80s and 90s are working in tech anymore, and thus no one can teach the lesson that everyone having a new piece of tech s more profitable than one person having one.

There's a real grounded utility to them. LLMs are really good at passing tokens to other models. That's what they do, they understand human language. They're good at interpreting what kind of stuff you want. Now you just need more models that actually do stuff now that you can make them understand us.

>>
>>61467217
Exactly, they're fantastic if you run your own models. I picture a future where everyone learns LLM training in class, and does it based on their personal needs and interests. This isn't the future the big tech companies have in mind, and thus I think they're doomed to failure.

>>61467222
>Nigga thats what nvda and tsla ais are focusing on atm.
I'm saying the business model is bunk. The Cloud is just someone else's computer, and you have no idea what the reliability on those machines actually are. Agentic AI is already showing its shortcomings as general AI is always less effective and far slower than specially trained AI, and it's being ran on less and less reliable hardware as time goes on.

Agentic AI only works if it's your agentic AI, trained on what you like, and is personal to you. These models in the cloud can't ever be that, and are thus always less effective and littered with guardrails which lobotomize their usefulness.

He's coping because the pendulum is swinging hard against the establishment. We have consumer economies that have abandoned the consumer. Pretty much the market has done everything it could the last three decades to drive down the cost of labor
>"Yes pushing women into the work force is absolutely about empowering them, not driving down labor costs"
>"Yes it is absolutely imperative that we have illegal immigration to work the fields otherwise you won't be able to afford food American's just don't want to work for wages that they can't live off of. Oh shit did I say that out loud? My bad, we'll just say they are too lazy to do these jobs in the future"
>"Are you kidding me of COURSE we need H1B1's for tech. That's the last field that can actually raise a family on a single income and that's unacceptable. So we're going to pretend that Indians aren't just cheap labor but are 100% needed because Americans are magically not smart or hardworking, despite having the best tech sector in the world, landing on the moon, creating the internet and nuclear, etc. etc."

>>
>>61467341
to expand on this, we have been driving down labor costs and so wages so badly that the economy is now unable to sustain itself

like imagine if we were able to magically import a billion workers to work for $1 and they could magically do their jobs perfectly

in that world the American economy would still completely collapse. Americans wouldn't have any income for living or houses or cars etc. and the new workers wouldn't either.

The slow decline of home owners etc. is the warning sign of that. Corporations will drive down wages until society collapses.

The mcdonalds experience is horrible. The exteriors have been turned into minimalist cheap design. The interiors are hostile and resemble a bad airport experience instead of a restaurant. I felt more at home inside an arbys then a mcdonalds. They copy starbucks chairs and tables but their black coffee can be better made by oneself. They cut costs with tech and giant tablet screens to try to distance me, the customer from talking to staff. Their strategy is to pivot to richer people but I assume if you are a richer clientele you are capable of dialogue and do not need to bother with an ipad screen to make orders. I walk into an arbys and I am not attacked by the giant touch screens or overpriced fancy computer pay systems, I see the staff and I feel more willing to spend money there. I get my order from mcdonalds and the pancakes come with plastic wrapped forks, plastic forks, plastic container, plastic bag. For all their shareholder money they are greedy and do not care about young customers health by polluting the planet with more plastic. Shame on them and shame on their board of shareholders. What gives them the nerve to attack crypto bros? They are the upcoming wealthy after baby boomers are gone and they priced out the poorer people in the past years. I don't know their strategy. It's a bad place a bad company. Kemp should be fired and replaced with someone who is a better visionary. Ray croc would hate this place. It's worse then post steve jobs apple. Tim apple gave us M1 chips and a better OS then windows. Kemp gave us nothing.

Not a bad question. The fee on it and any other passive index etf is small as hell and won't make a difference. Even holding it for 30+ years you'll have 100% of what you could have reduced to something funny like 99.95%. And it's because it reconstitutes meaning each year it reevaluates and chooses new holdings. It's this that's allowed it to bounce between sectors, right now really heavy in energy, and get a ludicrous 15% drip dividend growth

And what experience do I get at mcdonalds? Excessive marketing materials on everything. Coffee cups with graphic designs for the holidays, graphic designs everywhere. All unneeded expenses that drive up my costs where I supposedly save by downloading some app to keep the scam big tech industry going. They isolate me with their screens then when I try to sit in peace to eat I am forced into being opposite other customers. Why is face to face interaction with staff discouraged but I have to deal with watching the occasional disrespectful baby boomer in the lobby? Meanwhile at arbys I get the opposite. I see the kitchen I see the staff and when I sit down I get a private booth. Mcdonalds should have private booths, and staff I can see and socialize with. All the place does is give problems headaches. I would faster order from a food truck or get coffee at a gas station. Places that don't bother me the customer while giving better experiences. Real estate wall street tech scam: the company.

It's sad because McD is so comfy in Japan. And the food is actually crazy cheap. Even the store designs are comfy. They always have this second story area where you can eat and have cozy music playing. It's still a place there where people go to relax and just eat

>>61467271
That is the eventual application with agentic AI. Again, all tech progress shows that profit maximizes once it's cheaper and in the hands of consumers.

That's part of why we're seeing these major AI platforms degrade in quality so badly. Their entire rush is to capitalize on this bubble when their rush should be to make smaller applications for regular people to run on consumer hardware. The rush for datacenters can't last, but it's good to profit while we can off of it.

I've been living this shit the last five years like a retard.
Doubled my money over ~7 years 2012 - 2019 just keeping it in an S&P ETF and adding monthly allotments.
See Covid happening, say to myself 'I'm a coward' and pull out just before shit hits the fan, feel like a genius because it tanks hard.
Proceed to continue sitting on that cash for the last half a decade during the greatest bull run in history, consecutive +30% years, because 'surely this shit is clown word and it's going to collapse any day now'. I'd have once again doubled my money if I had done nothing.

Never take it out, don't be me.
I swear, I'll put it back in any day now
Once the bubble collapses, surely, any day now. Because I know, as soon as I say 'fine, fuck it, we're back in', I'll lose it all and suddenly suffer some huge medical emergency.

>>61466977
>What does it mean to understand something? What is the language model actually doing? How is any of it different than understanding?
>The current AI models are really capable understanding machines.
This was answered decades ago with the Chinese Room experiment.
The LLM is the man in the room, the man doesn't understand Chinese. People give him Chinese text to translate, and he's putting paper into boxes based on what a large book of Chinese translations is telling him to do. Everyone who looks at his work is getting fooled into thinking he speaks Chinese. Yourself included.

This is the problem with everyone being so ultra-bullish with LLM AI and Agentic AI. The people who are the most bullish about it understand it the least, but their financial push is what is driving this entire economy for more Agentic AI without understanding what the limits are or how it works. Transformer LLMs achieving AGI was already proven to be impossible before Covid.

https://philarchive.org/rec/SCHAII-17

Without AGI, your Agentic AI is simply the man in the room putting paper into boxes. He cannot fundamentally understand what the paper means or how to learn from the paper and boxes he's sorting. This means there comes a point where it doesn't matter how much training data you give this man or how big you make his book of translations, he's going to hit a limit to the quality of his work. We're seeing that now with noticeable quality drops from the major Agentic AI players which users have been reporting for months.

https://github.com/google-gemini/gemini-cli/issues/8625

tldr; Your AI isn't thinking or reasoning, we're hitting the upper limit of its output, the only question is how much longer people can be bullish on it when the major players can't solve the problem.
>>
>>61468051
Lmao. It doesnt matter if inflation is 10% for 5 years, if it returns to 2-3% they claim victory. Prices will ALWAYS increase. This is literally policy

All this to say: Things are going to pump in the short term because they can keep the illusion that the models are getting better by building more datacenters, but they can't keep this up in the long term. You should be prepared for the bull market while it lasts and always be sure to have one foot out the door. NEVER become invested in the AI market as it is right now.

I see it as sacrificing the dollar to keep the bull market going. It's a pessimistic outlook but it's clear their main goal right now isn't to save the dollar from inflation. If you've been keeping up with notes on the first half of the December FOMC meeting yesterday,
https://www.usatoday.com/live-story/money/2025/12/10/federal-reserve-december-meeting-live-updates/87675046007/
they are VERY Divided on it. There's the faction that sounds like this thread and the faction that thinks the only way to go is down.

>>61468153
Don't invest in singular tech and AI companies like NVDA, TSLA, META, or GOOG, diversify and find the larger picture of tech companies that are on the upward, and never, ever try to call the short-term. If anyone could call it, they would becomes billionaires overnight. Right now, the only way to predict the overall market can go is up.

I'm still all-in on >>61467107 they could go as high as 75 today. Realistically 25 is a safe number and 50 is casino at vegas odds. If it's 50, have some positions for the SPY pump.

Netflix started dumping when they announced the WBD deal, before the Paramount counter offer was announced. It would be an extremely expensive aquisition that might not pay off for years to come. I think at this point investors don't even know what they want in regards to Netflix, both them winning and losing this aquisition seems ultimately bearish.

>This is just simple math applied to a large scale system. No magic behind it.
You missed the point entirely. I am aware. It's just a ridiculous simplification of what's going on.
"Just predicting things" is incredibly bad way of simplifying something.

You're just typing one letter after another. You, in turn, are fooled by this level of argumentation.
>>
>>61468045
True. It's silly to think a mathematical model "understands" anything. But you neglected to say something that contradicts that idea. It's already far removed from AI models to the point of being absurd. And even in this absurd way of putting things, the best way you can contradict it is through a category error of sorts.
Well, let's remove that category error. If a machine is running that model, does a machine + software running the model in it have some understanding of weather?
>>
>>61470173
There's some obvious follow-ups to help you realize what I'm thinking.
>Do you really have some understanding of the color red?
>Did Newton understand gravity?
>Does a person reading a book have some understanding of what they are reading?

Considering the larger argument, if it's about the amount of sensory input, or other context of understanding the person has, you're running against a really big problem. Suddenly, arguments like this >>61468103 are extremely unconvincing in turn. There's a double standard. If complexity enters the picture, Machine Jesus cultists just won big time. I don't accept that without proper evidence.

If it's about consciousness, that's fair. We can name it artificial understanding as a compromise. Understanding in all but consciousness is a form of understanding, which is exactly what I'm saying, really.
>>
>>61470419
>There's a double standard.
I realized I explained that a little poorly. I'll add another way to explain it through example.
>does a blind person have SOME understanding of the color red?
Clearly, not a similar understanding of the color as people with sight. But to say they have NO understanding of it just makes understanding mean that someone understands something like you do.

There might be something extremely special about your perception specifically, but that's just not convincing.
