everything was more affordable, I had no trouble buying a car and a house on a single cook's wage.

so in that regard we had it much better than now. But yeah, we didn't have spare money. It took me a full year to save up $1000. Most of us were just getting by. On the plus side credit was difficult or impossible to get, so a lot of us had zero debt.

modern generations are much smarter than we were, they'll learn easily. Also a lot of the basic knowledge we had no longer applies. Canada managed to do the reverse of this for a while, they minted 1/4 oz Silver coins with a face value of $20 and sold them at Face near the top of the market in 2010 and 2011 as part of their 20 for 20 program. When the Silver price went down people tried to spend them at face value only to find that nobody would accept them and it forced the RCM to issue a statement that despite the coins being legal tender, vendors didn't have to accept them.
A few weeks ago, the melt value of the coins finally exceeded their face value, so those too were not immune to fate.

If I know what I do now I’d have never have brought a kid into this world, at least not without being completely self sufficient and independent from the system first. You have a good shot at making it with 300 oz. I will say though, for the love you bear your family make sure you have your steel and preserved food ready as well. A decent rifle with a sling, a spare for your wife if you can afford it, 30 mags for each and at least 10k rounds. That will set you up to not be completely fucked. Make sure you can at least hit paper at 100 yards and reload under stress/pressure.

Working on it bro. Spent 5 years scrubbing the indoctrination and programming from my wife’s head, the gun stuff is prob the hardest. Only have a Glock rn I bought last year and literally haven’t shot it yet. I need to get to the range next week. And we move a lot so it’s hard crossing state lines and not being in residential state for rifles but I plan to get a lower receiver for the AR kit I bought once we aren’t moving around so much.

On the food front, have a freeze drier. Got 18 lb of ground beef done so far, then 30 day kit from before and some eggs also. But I’d like to ramp up that this next month or two while we aren’t paying electricity. Really want to plant down cause the biggest challenge is being on the move and not having as much stocked up supplies as I’d like. Appreciate the advice anon
