brotha, america spending 2% of its gdp on the military from 2000 to 2020 was more military spending than the entire rest of the world COMBINED
why? Because we had the biggest gdp in the world.

And throughout it all, europeans criticized it or even mocked it and refused to get to that level. Just 2%. They mocked greece for meeting their 2% goal in the 2010s by increasing their navy when greece was having budget issues, a little after the greek debt crisis.
europe still hadn't gotten to 2% spending by the end of obama which is 2016, and there are STILL today some european NATO countries which have not yet gotten to that point. That's after trump 1, biden, and now we are in trump 2. Most are at or above, barely, some higher (like poland) but some are still below.

The amount of spending between US and europe is not even comparable. Especially when you look historically.
sure, europe buying some american equipment helped here and there, but it was a drop in the bucket. Poland buying half their shit from us is not really moving the needle. And most NATO countries don't buy a fuckload of their equipment from uncle sam like poland does. They are the outlier.

He has to do something soon.

Right now he's bleeding about -2% every week in (air) war support among (R) voters.
Boots has never had any support to speak of (7%), not even spec ops (33%).
That will hit baseline of course at some point of people who just love war and him, but it will be a very bad spot to be in.

OR

He could listen to me and fire Heggseth and get someone in there who can actually convince the American people it's a good idea. But short of that, he's running out of time. Send them or leave. Don't just sit an wait for the end.

The US budget is very simple
0.70 cents on the dollar goes to old people.
And maybe a few brownoids committing medicare fraud, social security fraud, etc.
0.15 cents goes to things actually in use (military, natural parks, etc)
0.15 cents goes towards interest on the debt already accumulated from the current arrangement. for now.

>ICYMI | Trump Leaning Toward Ground Invasion, Convinced Iran Will Then Capitulate - Times Of Israel
>>
>>62038630
>The probably depends upon the effect of the invasion. If it's just to open the pool and it succeeds I'd expect markets to not go down, but up instead.
yeah I agree

wait a sec
I think I have this figured out. why it's 80 days for the stock market hit, if it goes wrong.
the president has 60 days to do a "police action totally not a war" before congress must declare war, and 90 days at the max.

So if this is not going well, dragging on longer than usual, it will officially become a war in 60-90 days, which is about 80. When congress officially declares war because the operation is failing and must continue to achieve its objectives, then people will get pretty demoralized.

Maybe that's it then.

so a key date to keep in mind is april 29th. 60 days after feb 28th. that's actually coming up soon! in one month basically from today march 27th.
and if orange man wants to finish the special maduro operation before that time, he has to do it before the deadline.

The "2026 Iran War" (coded as Operation Epic Fury) began on February 28, 2026, with joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iranian military and leadership targets.
Conflict Start Date: February 28, 2026.
Reporting: President Trump submitted the required 48-hour notification to Congress shortly after the initial strikes.
60-Day Deadline: The initial 60-day period is set to elapse on April 29, 2026.
Potential 90-Day Deadline: If a 30-day withdrawal extension is certified, the absolute deadline for unauthorized operations would be May 29, 2026.

if only there was a country called ukraine who had spent the last 4 years making interceptors to shoot down shahed missiles, which are cheaper than shaheds

for some weird fucking reason, we never copied that tech from them. stupid
though the ukies are sending the anti-drone teams to the middle east. at least the arabs have some self preservation instinct. So they... kinda sorta have some sort of cost efficient interceptor at least in small numbers. still not great though.

>>62038774
Seems reasonable. The trend seems to be oil up, market down whenever nothing changes and the current state of being seems to be rather unfavourable to Trump and the USA, so I'd assume USA will try to do something to lower the oil prices long-term sooner, rather than later. When exactly and whether it'll succeed, that's have no idea. Maybe they'll drag the situation further or fuck up massively, but then I'm not sure how much it could effect the market, seeing how negativity is already being priced in somewhat.

Well, he certainly seems to have gotten himself into quite of a pickle, but by the time he's realized it it was probably too late, so now he's scrambling. My guess was that he'd try to install some sort of puppet as a leader of Iran or maybe take the strife militarily. The thing is that if he won't resolve the high oil price, he might be toast politically. Not only from possible impeachment, but also from pressure from other states, so my guess is that he'll feel like he has to do something, but I could be wrong as I would not anticipate this conflict and it unfolding this way to begin with.

they turn coal into oil, and then into other refined products, it's a whole integrated process, south africa has abundant coal, with high energy prices it is very profitable, when they're low though they can't compete. so it's feast or famine as you can see by the chart, if the anti-coal climate energy reduction regime comes back it can get squashed again, but it is "too important to fail" almost, doesn't mean it won't go bankrupt but it's a major strategic asset for south africa, big value add for the coal deposits. you never know though, a progressive regime might realize that a childhood spent digging coal is good for the character and help their margins for when hard times come again.

Personally I think Israel's plans were leaked yesterday and it looked like they'll be airstriking the biggest power plants this weekend. The only reason they wouldn't is the astronomically low chance that they'll listen to america.

Look at how panicky the Trump administration is getting about oil prices. They know they fucked up. This was supposed to be a quick military operation lasting a few days, and they shorted oil with the idea that there would be only a brief price spike before it would go back down prior to futures front month expiry. Futures expire next Wednesday and they have to come up with $100B of physical oil by then. Prices are still high and supply is still constrained. The military operation this weekend is a last ditch hail mary attempt to crash oil prices and loosen supply, but if it fails, there *WILL* be a short squeeze as they're forced to cover their short position before expiry.

I was one of the first people in the world to recognize that SMCI was fraudulent two years ago, even before the Hindenburg report came out, and profited bigly on my OTM puts. Then after that I correctly timed the Liberation Day crash down to the month, six months in advance by looking at yield spreads, and once again profited bigly. Then last summer I told all of you to buy precious metals and precious metal accessories, and profited bigly AGAIN. Now I'm telling you how to play this hyperinflationary oil shock, but *STILL* you refuse to listen to literally and unironically the highest IQ person in /smg/. Stay poor.

Alright let me ask you something ser. Since oil price has obviously been manipulated down to an uncomfortably high but still purchasable level, one would presume with all the writing on the wall with this war for oil supply disruption everyone (govs) are currently stocking up on cheapy oil as much as they can, buying while it's still at this current level. So short squeeze aside, what can reasonably be assumed about price action for oil and oil adjacent assets once the tag catches up to the newly not only disrupted, but now government level slurped, oil supply which still is on the market? Im holding uso to make pennies right now and I'm not banking on a short squeeze but trying to figure out the right time to sell once we're at a nice peak so I can get as much as i can for me money. So got a time line fof peak price?

You are suggesting there will be an OIL SHOCK where it goes to like 500$ otherwise it will be a NOTHINGBURGER
and your argument is basically that whatever we do now doesn't matter because the SHOCK element is already happening.
But the strait of homoz being like a parking lot you can obviously see how this is gonna resolve just like all of these shipping problems as long as there is light on the horizon because traders will anticipate the price into the future wich actually looks good right now. checkmate.

I don't know about a 500 dollar a barrel situation, but everything I've seeing is that 1, this is the largest disruption of oil supply ever (le hormuzzy closed) 2, that a sustained tag of 125-150 dollars a barrel (sustained as in 3+ months at that price) will lead to global recession 3, a significant portion of persian gulf oil production infastructure as been damaged already thus far, and 4, persian gulf produces have already significantly cut down oil production, since they can't move their oil as they once did. And this is all preliminary oil production cut back, as I have been reading that once oil reaches a particularly high price tag, 125+ above, there should be over time a reduction in oil demand because of various factors. Essentially since its so expensive/supply is so low, there will be rationing as we're starting to see in the global south already, shortages as in Australia and parts of Asia, and as there will be not enough money to buy the oil and people get into this state of reduced oil consumption there will be less buying, and production will grid down. Which should drop the price perhaps? I don't really know too much about it, just my thoughts and what I've been seeing.

Essentially I'm saying what has already happened this far will be very rough very many places and gets worse every day, no even counting what has yet to be destroyed. There's the risk that an attack by the US on that island everyone keeps talking about could result in further Iranian strikes on economic energy infastructure, not to mention if the US does manage to capture it, it would only really be a symbolic victory as it's more a shipping hub than the heart of their production industry. It could significantly hurt them financially for awhile, but it could be months of attempting to strangle them with it via that island, if that could even work. The US would have to divert resources to keep holding it, planes and missles to defend the men there. Whereas the Iranians could just continue hammering isreal's face in all the while, or attack more energy infastructure, etc. It doesn't seem like a well thought out plan to me.

I wish brother. My only traditional commodity is USO right now and only because I wanna make a few more bucks so I can buy into the crypto bear market. Only posting here because youre the only good thread on biz left. If you guys haven't been seeing, military build up has been happening this entire week and Iran has been outright denying any negotiations (as they should, since theyve been attacked during negotiations w the US twice already) So we're definitely gonna see more happen but I'm not sure how its gonna end. Trump is doubling down like a gambler to get back his losses but the casino is about to close as someone put it. I dont think the US can take much more of the pressure at home and abroad, but I also can't see us accepting Iranian terms. Our war goals going in was regime change in the form of the collapse of the current government of Iran but they just replaced everyone, and now the war goal is to close the strait that was open before we started. The war will probably end in a max of 3 months assuming it doesnt escalate beyond the region, if only because Iran has a strangle hold on us because of the uzzy

>Investors are rebuilding cash positions in a pattern reminiscent of 2022 as geopolitical and policy uncertainty persists, according to a note from JPMorgan on Thursday.

>Quant strategist Nikolaos Panigirtzoglou said investors have been “abandoning equities, bonds and gold all at the same time, preferring instead to raise their cash allocations” since the start of the Iran war.

>“The inversion at the front end of core yield curves has raised concerns about central bank policy mistakes in a similar fashion to 2022,” Panigirtzoglou wrote, adding there is still “little evidence of de-anchoring of long-term inflation expectations.”

>JPMorgan said investors fear that the energy shock “will compound an inflation problem, inducing central banks to tighten policy this year, and raising the risk of a policy mistake.”

>Rate markets have priced out earlier cuts and “priced in significant rate hikes … over the coming three quarters,” the bank added.

>Equity positioning has fallen sharply, with JPMorgan’s overall indicator now at the 62nd percentile, down from 81 percent in late January.

escalation card

they have played things incredibly well so far given what they have... no need to do it all at once, this is causing enough pain as it is, everyone knows they have more they can do so it's really put the US and Israel in a bind

taking out strategic points in israel and the gulf at just enough pace they aren't using up all their missiles whilst at the same time running down all the interceptors

Thats why trump has TACOd on boots on the ground or hitting their power plants.... what can they do from here?

Iran could have just gone all out at the start... but making it long drawn out, causes issues in the global economy without actually doing much but the threat of doing it, perfect for them
>>
>>62039136
The big issue with the Houthis is the major pipeline going through Saudi Arabia. If they fuck that up, it will be hard to downplay.

>This morning, following the lies of the corrupt president of America regarding the openness of the Strait of Hormuz, three container ships of different nationalities moved toward the designated corridor for the transit of ships with permits, which were turned back with a warning from the IRGC Navy.
>The IRGC Navy announced that the Strait of Hormuz is closed and that any movement in this strait will be met with a harsh response.
>The movement of any ship “to and from” ports of the allies and supporters of the Zionist–American enemies to any destination and from any corridor is prohibited.

even Iran could target that pipeline with missiles though right? I'm honestly surprised they haven't done that yet. Such pipelines are impossible to protect anyways since they're hundreds of km long and vulnerable on 100% of their length

Don't need the Hothinis for that. Just a Shahed on the pipeline in some random area in the desert. Easiest infrastructure to blow up, really. Oil terminals and complexes are infinitely harded to hit as they're easier to defend, and yet they hit them regardless.
That meme pipeline is just that, a meme.

The market IS fucktarded. And as long as boomers on Fox News believe the lie, they will buy the dips. And you have zoomers believing you can print oil through the FED printers so they too will buy the dips like they've been conditionned to for all their short lives. You have them here in these very threads.
It's fucking grim, really.
>>
Can someone sell everything so the market magically turns arround with completely unexpected news? Thanks in advance!
>>
Iran could use this opportunity to defacto lift financial sanctions on itself and fuck up the petrodollar. Just announce that ships are free to move through the strait as long as they route oil payments through the Iranian financial system in non-US dollar currencies. Asian countries are afraid of US sanctions, but they're way more afraid of their economies collapsing so I think they'd come around.
>>
The real thing we should be worried about regarding the Houthis is closure of the Red Sea strait. They have already done it, and for those who remember, are capable of keeping it closed despite US efforts to stop them. You can see articles about this from 2025.
