its weird how oil immediately dips on random news then just recovers pretty much back to where it was before on no news when it would just crab all day otherwise

nothing has really changed, but that news either mattered, or it didn't

You gotta pay at least 90% of your taxes due for the year, during the year. You can’t just pay it all at the end of the year without a penalty. Most employed people get it withheld from their paychecks. Their “tax refund” is because too much of their own money was withheld. If you make more you need to send in more taxes every quarter.

Interesting. Thanks. I just went and researched this, as I'd never heard this before. This is my first year of not being a W2 employee. I figured I would just calculate everything at the end of the year and pay it in April next year.
Fortunately I lost money from January to March, so I don't owe anything, but now I know in time for the end of June.
Are there forms with this, I assume? I just cut a check and sent it to the IRS?

Yes, there are pay stubs you send in every quarter with the check. They are form 1040-ES and something like 500-es for the state. You can do it online too but there was all this KYC verification shit that it’s retarded. The way I do is make a separate 2026 estimate file with 2025 turbo tax. I put in the mock sales and interest I think I will have. It will give a pdfs of the return at the end and those 4 quarterly stubs will be in them near the top of the return. Dude you started in earning season where shit gets freaky. If the market follows the same path it has for the last 50 years and you're buying in to hold right now, you're getting in a bit high. Next month shit will start slowing down and cool off all summer while people are out doing anything but staring at charts. September it'll start ramping back up.

If you really want to invest, save some powder to catch the bottoms on good stuff in the coming months. Don't waste it all chasing tops right now.
