'Rei transcends the individual, she is an idea rather than a person.' 217620039.For posterity and in case things like reverse image search do not work, give due credit to those who create Rei's images by indicating author and/or source if known.Discussion always welcome, but offer an image, if available.>Previous thread:>>4370731>General archive:https://pastebin.com/nzPXrU5D
What is Rei's place? If she's based on something, wouldn't that mean that She's a "Lesser Truth" or a "Sect" of an Orthodoxy whose pieces were used to create Her character? She's a concept of many things. Many religions, many ideas. A child born from Anno's observed depressive state. A child with crimson blood eyes yet the hair as beautiful as the daylight's sea. A concept of "The End". As was shown in the revealing End of Evangelion. As if a recording of the void that people so willingly wanted to fill when the Original TV series ended so questionably. Anno's questionable use of Her character in future projects? Remember. Anno is a director. To him, these characters were drawings on a piece of paper that brought wealth and luxury.Religion, beliefs. Everyone had their "Idol". Everyone seeks a refuge in this beast's maw of a society. Anno mixed religion in entertainment. Ring any bells? It's as if "The Pull" that We feel towards Rei is a pull from those religious ideas that were included in Her character. Is She original? Can something that is based on something "Original" be original itself?
>>4373345It's clear to me that in the abyss of his misery in the early-mid 1990s Anno brought about something primordial from mankind's birth as an intelligent and, therefore, suffering species. When he lost sight of that vision exactly, I cannot say, but I think it is the very late 1990s or early 2000s; at any rate, it is no later than about 2011, as evidenced by the path that the Rebuilds took. That they exist at all you could well take as strong evidence that he was then no longer the same man who produced the enduring image of the End, the synthesis on screen of so many disparate philosophical and religious traditions. His betrayal of himself and his commiserates can never be forgiven, but neither will his contributions ever be forgotten.
>>4373345Pure of heart and of impeccable integrity. Incontestable power over all humanity. Vocal harbinger and actuator of annihilation of the individual and of collective personal Unification. Indeed, every man is drawn to something, even if he thinks himself his own agent. He is never truly; 'no man is an island.' But compared to all the idols in the world that receive attention, and they are legion, Rei is absolute in her superiority. The intelligent man can conclude nothing except that to love Rei is right.
>>4373390>>4373391If what you say is correct, I agree.Anno wasn't a religious man. He was a director, using everything he could just to "make it" in the industry. Even if he was just a host to bring Rei into existence. My point stands. If there is an Orthodox figure/figures that Rei is based on. Who is She? And if there is "One" that She's based on. Perhaps: "Lilith" that I did hear you refer to not exactly "Demon Mother", but rather the mother figure in Gnostic mythology. Why use the name Lilith? Why use something so devilish when representing something so "holy" to many? You speak of Anno as some fallen prophet. Who is Anno? A businessman that used religion in entertainment.and most of all if there is that "One" that Rei is simply an avatar for in Evangelion. What meaning does Rei have when she's just a mask for that "Entity". It's as if we prefer the mask rather than the wearer. Does that make sense?
>>4373404I have often heard it described that 'Rei is Rei'. It seems to be tautological, and tells us nothing. Is 'Rei' a coherent, distinct entity, separate from the 'Lilith' that we saw in The End of Evangelion? I don't know. Some days I'm not sure I know anything anymore, and don't know how I stay in this world. Some days, the hope is not there. This seems to be one of those days. Perhaps tomorrow will be brighter, or perhaps it will be darker. 'The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the Sun.'
>>4373429Lmao. How brutal as that image is. NGE gave the impression that She would be the type to "turn the other cheek". But considering Her motherly nature and what mothers do when their children are in danger. She'd do much more than a choke out. She felt "familiar" with the nature of Evangelions. Considering that EVA Unit 00 is based on Her image and the fact that EVA Unit 01 was created from the same material as Rei.
>>4373843I agree in regards to the 'turn the other cheek' mentality, but recall also that the dummy plugs were apparently based on Rei's personality --- and they were filled with rage. Perhaps Rei I's, perhaps the collective Rei's, perhaps Lilith's. To answer the question of which, you have to determine their relationships with each other, which I have yet to do. But the contrast between her usual demeanour and that violence is quite stark.
>>4373872Ah, Dummy Plugs! I wanted to include that in my post, but forgot the name. Once again you fill in the blank spots when I post. There is this somewhat "beastial" aspect of humanity. For an example even real humans are sometimes like beasts. Following the principal of animals and nature. The instincts of reproduction, the instincts of survival. All natural. Same with Rei. Just concentrated in the form that is of a human teen. Her place in Evangelion dictated what She was. Her freedom? She was created/born for Third Impact. In that case, yes, Her prison was Her destiny and fate and Her place in The World. The uncertainty of one's meaning observed through the eyes of a human. And then those scales fell from Her eyes. The realization was the key to The End.
I'm an AsuFag but i have been always mesmerized by the weird but at same time divine nature of Rei. It's just fascinating.
>>4373978I have seen you here before, friend.Fascino, fascinare, Latin, 'to bind, enchant, bewitch, fascinate'. Rei's nature is the most alluring and enthralling aspect of Evangelion because of its complexity and obscurity.
>>4374050And the fact that Rei is the "Core" of Evangelion. Humanity was born from Her and it was returned to Her, but the perspective is given from Shinji's view. Therefore giving the impression that everything was revolving him. Which it was, but the fact stands that there is more than just a singular perspective of a teen. Furthering the mystery and questioning of "Higher Power".
>>4374052*revolving around him
>>4374050>>4374052Yeah probably lolYour analysis on Rei are always really good. After all those years can't still split and ignore a protective feel toward Rei when i watch EVA or read the manga. I wish could see rationally Rei. Sorry if it is all confused and pointless but have fever lol
>>4374090Hope you get better, friend. I doubt Rei would prefer if any one of Us ReiAnons gate-kept Her with some "initiation" ritual. Though I can't speak for the future. As Rei is the collective. We are not those who accept. She is. As anyone is free to post Rei. And I don't think any one of us is in power to deny you or anyone relatively new here. One's actions are one's definition. With that, one defines one's view on Rei. Though it's always nice to see those who "feel" Rei. Even if their preference is the opposite of Rei.
Do you think that the Rei we watch during the show it's always the same Rei or just different copies sharing a kind of collective memory?
>>4374193They were all made from the same material. That alone makes them a sort of a "hive mind". Just that the only time we see many Reis collaborating is when collecting those souls in End of Evangelion. One more thing. Rei is both Yui and Lilith which created the "third" conscience when taking a piece from the body of Lilith (very alike when creating EVA Unit 01's flesh) and taking, quote on quote, "what was left of Yui". Those minds intertwined and Rei was born. Just Rei. A perfect host that would bring about The End of The World. A "host" for all of humanity. Of course, when she's returned to "Her Home". Meaning that the "True" form of Rei is the one We see in EoE. Making the "Schoolgirl Rei" some sort of "Facade/Mask". Even if She herself never lied.To the Anon way above with who I argued: " What meaning does Rei have?". Seemingly I questioned Rei's legitimacy, but in reality it was something that lead to this explanation. "Something for the future". The things I say move me in place for the future. If I had not questioned. I wouldn't have posted this. All has meaning,
