I was not ready.
Opening the bag a fuel oil fragrance escaped. The oil slick darkness of the torrefacto beans' contrast popping out was a first.
Pulled a 18g in 40 out in 25s, never had beans so gassy before where the crema took so much place.
The body is extra thicc and syrupy.
Tastewise the nuttyness of the robusta is really present with the absence of the rubbery taste. The caramelization of the torrefacto brings some sweetness like toffee.
A nutty caramelly cuppa. The contrast is stark with the washed sl28 kenyan from this morning although not unpleasant to my palate.
Proper lingering after taste. Like 30min at least.

>A blend with a body marked by the robusta Africans from Angola and the accentuated soul by the aromas of Arabica from Guatemala. With notes of caramel an roasted nuts, a stimulating espresso for the senses is born.

i agree about minas gerais, havent had some in a bit but i had a fantastic dry brazilian earlier this year
>Do you blend by feel?
i blend by weight, technically, but i decide the proportions by feel
this morning was a single dose intended for the steam machine and a milk drink, so it was a full third of each coffee, but when i blend for my moka pot i tend to use smaller proportions of robusta
and yeah Inside was a fuckin trip eh? i almost wish we'd gotten more characterization for Dafoe's character and how he was before the events of the film, but the lack of that makes it a bit easier to get into his shoes and feel what he felt

Roasted May 7th. Smelled stale coming out and very thin crema. This is a double shot in a small mug and I can't really taste anything.. What I do taste is so weak and off. I made a formal complaint against the post office (this cost me a lot to ship twice here) but I doubt it will do anything.

>>20582382
there really shouldnt be anything too terribly wrong with coffee thats just a month and a half off roast, but i suppose poor storage conditions at the post office could exacerbate degradation
it could just be that it needs dialing in, could it not?
either way, i love your choice of mug and im sorry youre disappointed

this afternoon i had an excellent pourover of my washed kenyan, v60 with abaca filters, pushed it to 1:18 and stirred it twice, once after the bloom and once after the single pour i did. it was like a spiced citrus tea with hints of a sort of a bergamot flavor, just lovely.
and just now, i did my first roast of a java variety from colombia. it got darker rather quickly, finished it in eight minutes with a loss of about 13.6%. i ate the quakers, cant wait to try the rest (:
>>
>>20582473

When i opened the bag for the first time, the disparity made me think about deer scat.
It's my first torrefacto beans. The anon posting webms and youtubes about it piqued my interest.
It's interesting to say the least.

>i blend by weight, technically, but i decide the proportions by feel
With time and experience do you know more or less what ratio for which origin works best for your taste?

>i almost wish we'd gotten more characterization for Dafoe's character and how he was before the events of the film, but the lack of that makes it a bit easier to get into his shoes and feel what he felt
I'm not sure if it's by design, and although one is resposible for ones boredom, but i had to try ma best not to be bored after the thirty minutes mark. Storywise i felt it became repetitive at that point, though maybe it was intentional to make us feel what Willem felt, in which case it's a success. So i focused on the acting and the photography which were on point.

It came today and it seems really neat! I tried it today with cheap supermarket coffee because I just want to learn. The coffee doesn't taste as bad as a drip machine but it's still pretty bad. I've only made specialty coffee in my moka pot and I think I got used to the good light roast. So going from that to shit supermarket coffee is really strange but, learning! Sadly all this did was make me want to learn how to roast my own coffee. Personal growth seems about right.

Not just the post office but they flew from Idaho USA to me here in Berridale Aus. All the bags are vacuumed and sealed. I was surprised they were so flat tasting but I did already notice that big disparity when you smell fresh beans to stale ones when I opened the bag. I emailed them to ask if they'd ship to me themselves but they haven't replied yet :( they shipped to Denmark and the UK prior it seems so possibly they might.. I really hope so. This was expensive, frankly. I don't want to say how much I paid for this but I waited a very long time to afford it.
>>20582499
These are the beans I ordered. I opened the most recently roasted bag which was the Hieromartyr Single Origin.
>>20582630
Three bags here. I did get a neat sticker which I put on my portable covfefe cup. Also fwiw I did end up submitting a formal complaint to the post office. It turns out this house I am renting was never listed as finished being built so it simply did not exist on the register. I find that very odd however as if you're an Aussie you'd already know the blue slips for picking up packages. I was never given any email, text or slip saying it was at the PO. So the bags sat there dying slowly for two weeks at least. (I get slips left usually, just not this time.)

Thank you guys for the mug compliments. The shop I got it from also sent me free "the roost" take away cups just like in the game which was really awesome. It's nice being able to share these events with you guys.

>With time and experience do you know more or less what ratio for which origin works best for your taste?
more or less describes it accurately, i would say. ive only been experimenting with blends for a few weeks now, but it's certainly been a learning experience. i read a bit about common blending practices on the internet first. generally its better to start with only two or three different beans, as the finer flavors can get a bit lost in the mix when you incorporate more.
>Storywise i felt it became repetitive at that point, though maybe it was intentional to make us feel what Willem felt
i completely agree, and i think it was a very effective work to that degree.

glad youre having fun, anon (: tomorrow you shall drink good coffee, i presume, and it will be glorious
i cant recommend home roasting enough, its fun, easy, and will quickly pay for itself in savings if you want to drink specialty coffee
but it may be wiser to get more of a handle on brewing before you go buying more toys (:

No not at all, around $17/kg.
Today's coffee was much more balance with less nutty robusta taste and more toffee notes.
Godspeed with the blending progress.

I watched the french movie Inside (2007) because it had the same name as Willem's movie. I went in blind and boy oh boy was it a wild ride.
I was also gifted a box of gourmet coaties (princess almonds), goffee time was extra comfy today.

Mercearia means store, mercado means market. You can use mercado to refer to a store but in this case I'm saying Mercado with a capital M to refer to the Mercado Central, which is this huge marketplace with tons of stores we have in downtown Belo Horizonte (Capital of Minas). By mercearia I'm refering to a small store not too far from my house. The reason why I buy in the Mercado is because I go there every month to buy spices and a 250g bag tends to last me about that long. They also have a nice cafe there called Dois Irmãos, it ain't the best cafe in town but it does the trick.

Guy with the new Flair Classic here, this is how my puck came out this morning. My tamp was a bit uneven and the puck came out all wavy on top, does that mean anything when it comes to flavour extraction? There was no visible channeling/jets but the shot was a bit more acidic than before, maybe it's related to this. If it isn't obvious I'm completely new to espresso.
>>
>>20583570

i'm not the flair58 anon, but from my understanding when you remove the basket it kinda destroys the puck so any feedback is moot

help me out iced coffee kangz. I used this method and the results were very disappointingly weak after an approx 10 steep in the jar. I used a dark roast, ground course, as all the yt vids say to do. I used it to make two glasses of 2/3 coffee 1/3 whole milk, both were weak in terms of coffee flavor.

What do I do to improve this? Finer grind? More grounds? More time? Or does this method just suck and I need to buy a cold brewer gizmo?

>honestly, talking to you about it makes me want to try roasting on my stove
You should totally go for it, coffee bro!
The mesh roaster allows the flames direct contact to the coffee beans. I find that the coffee brewed from these flame roasted beans stains my cup much easier than other kinds of roasted beans. I can't say for certain how this effects the taste as I don't have enough roasting experience yet, but it's something cool. I'm interested to try roasting over charcoal one of these days. If nothing else, a mesh roaster would be a fun addition on a long camping/backpacking trip.

Anyone else try flame roasted coffee?

i roasted picrel earlier in my popper, colombian chiroso. pretty delicate stuff, it got dark rather quickly. seems to me that high quality washed beans like these and some ethiopians ive had are difficult to bring to a city roast without this lack of uniformity. of course i will let my tastebuds do the cupping, rather than my eyes, in a couple days (: but if anyone has any pointers for achieving a more even roast, id love to hear them

New roasted goods for delicate and comfy coffee time. Antioquian castillo red honey and crispy grenadian l’esterre 75.

>This microlot from the Finca la Loma in Antioquia was specially produced for Carasso using a” Red Honey” process that reveals complex fruity notes and an important body and prolonged residual. Well balanced, blending candied fruits and red fruits makes it a remarkable coffee for all extraction methods.

Flavoursome experience. The beans smell nice. Super tasty, balanced and complex morning cuppa. Roasted exactly two weeks ago, waited for best aromas, will see how it evolves. Much more complexity and delicacy than the afternoon torrefacto cuppa.

>This exceptional Cru de Propriété is characterized by its creamy sweetness and delicate aromas of banana, fruits and nuts.
>Located 150km north of the coast of Venezuela, the island of Grenada is known as the ‘isle of spice’ famous for its plantations of cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and turmeric.
>Since 1714, fruity and floral cocoa has been cultivated here, which benefits from the dense and generous volcanic soil.
>L’Esterre Estate has been owned by the Ramdhanny family for over 70 years. The single estate is located in the northeast of the island, on the outskirts of the rainforest.
>The family grows cocoa and nutmeg in strict accordance with the rules of organic agriculture and agroforestry, thus maintaining the richness and fertility of the soil.
>The beans are harvested during the dry season, between November and April, then fermented at the property for 7 to 8 days before being dried in the sun for 6 to 7 days.

Succulent trinitario, the crispy butterscotchy square goes really well with the little black.

Orfève i bought it in Carasso's shop in town, but they also have a website. Picrel comes from the supermarket, it's the supermarket's owned brand and is really good for the price.
I would look around you locally if there are bean to bar producers because importing will be expensive i presume.
The fruitiness from the castillo is hard to describe. Maybe like cranberry or raspberry, but not acidity like lemon or grapefruit if that makes sense, i'm not good at describing flavours.

so it seems that some abos took shelter in the cave 30,000 years ago and now it has to be protected for all time.
also they dont really have a "belief system" more of a oral history, which is """real""" rainbow serpent yada yada
but the problem is there is like 500 mobs(clans) and most of them were wiped out so we have no idea how widespread these stories were or if its just the stories of a small number of mobs sort of pieced together and then applied to the entire country ya get what i mean?
like saying all native americans were apache

like look at this map
what the fuck
how is anyone supposed to understand anything about a people when there are this many mobs, most are totally wiped out, no one ever wrote anything down, they all speak slightly different languages and then those languages were suppressed and intentionally destroyed

so for me im like ok fine whatever, have your rainbow serpent, have your dream time, have your sacred animal totem, have little coming of age ceremony but the rest of it can fuck off.
also how the fuck am i supposed to care about this shit when most abos dont fucking care about it themselves

Full metal body, solid feel, easy external adjusting. Whole rotation is 60 clicks, one click is 16.6 microns. Heptagonal 40mm burr, can grind a bit more than the 30g advertised.

Is there any machine that doesn't have plastic tubing inside? I don't want microplastics in my coffee.
>>
>>20603847
you already have microplastics in your cock, your balls, your sperm, your brain, every single one of your organs and so does everyone else
its unavoidable
its in the food you eat
its in the water you drink
its in air you breaths
its in the objects your surround yourself with
its never going away
you are never going to remove it from your body
you can never remove it from your life
>>
kek you poor fucking children scared of plastic

Is it a waste of money to drink expensive coffee with cream and sugar?
>>
>>20604225
depends how expensive
like $400/kg or something?
but generally no, if you enjoy it more with milk and or sugar then it would be a waste of money to not add milk and or sugar
i buy pretty expensive coffee and often make milk drinks out of it, simply because i enjoy making milk drinks, its fun and the coffee is still fantastic.
its not like it utterly destroys the flavor or turns it into folgers level garbage.

>>

I'd much rather not suffer intense paranoia and anxiety which you lot seem to do. You're mentally ill enough to obsess with it, despite most of these plastic devices being bpa free. You seem to suffer your brain 30% more anxiety to get 1% less microplastics. That's a very mentally unstable trade.
>>

anon people in india swim in toxic waste and pollution every single day
they drink it they wash in it they cook with it
and they live very old lives
and they CLEARLY have zero problem with reproducing(1.417 billion)
the average indian will consume more microplastics in 1 day than you will in an entire lifetime and they will still have 2 children on average.

also not all harm reduction is smart, or worthwhile
how much harm is it really
are you 0.00000000000000000002% less healthy than if your coffee maker had zero plastic of any kind?
is that really worth giving a fuck about?
like yeah sure if plastic was that bad that it even coming in contact with anything you ingest that made your health 1% worse maybe i could get on your side
but its not, clearly.

>I do like some of the photos, but it is not a great surprise and an unfortunate one, that now through coffee , we continue to normalize the objectification of women. We applaud and congratulate naked bodies of women because we are brainwashed to believe it is completely normal and harmless. Yet, it is not. On the INTERNET and everywhere , we see so many women, naked or half naked. Great talent is needed to portray coffee and women and covering sexual body parts with a cup is not . Again and again it focuses on our bodies, on or sexual selves… those that conform to a certain stereotype, that is in fact, far away from reality. Whilst at the same time diminishing the hard hard work of women coffee producers like me with yet another picture covering our nether regions but this time with a coffee cup!

>anything profound
no i wouldn't say so
>interesting
sure BUT it is very much a liberal publication
im a couple issues behind and the quality can vary alot
you can get an issue for "free" to try it out, i think at the moment its issue 33, which i have in my lounge.
i can go get it tomorrow(its currently 2am) and read through it to tell you if i find anything interesting.
but the quality of everything other than the literature is always very good.
i feel like $80(?) a year is worth it.
also there is free coffee from roasters you might not usually have access to.
this issue came with a fantastic light roast colombian.
about 56g worth.

issue 33 seems to have an interview with Douglas Weber from Weber Workshops
i should give that a read actually...

also unfortunately they mag also has full page advertisements throughout the book
not too many and they dont usually feel invasive.
also they are all coffee ads so at least it might actually be something you would want to buy.
but for a premium mag i would prefer that it is ad free.
i mean id prefer they make it $100 per year and remove the ads.
but overall i dont think its a deal breaker.
>>
>>20607354
>can you elaborate on that?
onyx is one of very very few places that has access to eugenoides on a semi regular basis, maybe the only. they basically have the most novel and interesting emergent species of coffee under lock and key, so they're very well represented in competition coffee, but their coffee is nowhere close to the other top tens when working with equal ingredients. getting good varieties are part of being a good roaster, but cmon, there's a limit to how much credit they can get for that, jiri isn't one of the best sushi chefs cause he's the only one that can secure instant orgasm salmon
>>
>>20607378
*jiro
>>
>>20607378
I mean they buy other high end lots and roast them appropriately. Most people don't get to try those and just bitch about monarch instead though.
