I want something that does espresso grinds particularly well and is at least okay at filter coffee grinds. I prefer espresso and drinks like an Americano over filter coffee, but I'm also lazy and make coffee for 5 people in the morning so I want to make a pot of coffee too. (as it is, it's often just preground and we rarely break out the hand-grinder for filter coffee because grinding that much coffee by hand at 5-am isn't fun)
So largely looking for a big leap upgrade that will do daily driver fine but my preferred drinks great.

>Mazzer Philos
What makes you recommend it?
I'm genuinely a bit out of my depth with grinders, the way people talk about them it seems like things I'd consider small can make a huge difference.
I value a dark, chocolatey and earthy brew and try to cut back on the bitterness and sourness as much as I can. I want to think a better grinder will help with that but the research I been doing has led me down a lot of rabbit holes but very little idea where I want to go.
All I know is I really hate sour notes and would prefer bitter to sour
>>
>>21005442
What meaning is this image supposed to convey?
>>
>>21006390
Oh I'm not recommending it specifically, it's simply what I ended up going with for multiple reasons. A DF54 with modded ditting burrs might be more in line with your price/performance ratio desire. Just throwing my hat into the ring, and saying I was in your position and ended up on the Philos with the I189d burr set.
>>
>>21006403
Why the 54 and not the 65 or 83?
The Timemore is more expensive than all of them, is the Timemore just a rip-off that you can get the same quality for less than half the price?

Bought a new kingrinder K4 and this is how the burr look out of the box at 0, however they’re not fully touching and closed, the handle spins.
I tried gently closing 10-15 clicks (there’s a sheet inside the box saying to avoid spinning the handle past 0 ~ -15 to avoid damages) but even at that point the burrs aren’t fully locked, yet they’re starting to touch.
Is the grinder set to 0 outside the box or should I reach the burr lock as in the handle won’t spin at all?
>>
>>21006412
Timemore is mid to highend chinkshit. Df54/64 is true chinkshit (in a good way).
>>
>>21006392
The original image is a kid holding his hands up and looking at the camera in a mixture in fear and disgust and is used as a sort of "stay the fuck away from me" reaction image.
In this version, the face of James Hoffman, a Internet personality known for their opinions on coffee and coffee related topics is superimposed onto the face of the kid and a V60 is shopped into the kids hand. Hoffman's face was screenshotted in a situation vaguely similar to the original kid, with some disgust in the eyes, though less fear.
As such the new meme has the same meaning as the original reaction meme of the kid, but more specific to coffee related topic. The addition of a V60 might indicate that the poster wants to imply that any other brewing method than his method of choice should stay away from him.
I wish this post was written by AI, but it's actually just me on the shitter.

It was ok, a bit generic in latte form. The Ethiopian had some real interesting tasting notes that clearly separated it from other beans I’ve had. These Costa Rican beans don’t have any distinct flavors coming through the milk. I’ll try them as an espresso this afternoon and see what they’re like.

Would you buy the overpriced influencer coffee?
>>
>>21006651
If you know who any “influencers” even are, you should feel bad and make life changed.
>>
>>21006663
Honestly, I have no horse in that specific race, since I don't really watch Vtubers, I just saw that this was a thing apparently and wanted to shitpost.

As a general rule though, influencer products are almost exclusively shit. I do have 2 "influencer" kitchen things, a binging with babish knife that I was gifted by a well meaning female friend who watched him and knew I liked to cook, and a carbon steel wok by a lesser known cooking youtuber I bought myself. The babish knife was actually not as bad as I had expected, it's a serviceable knife with generic cheap steel. Overpriced for what it is, but that's to be expected from influencer stuff.
The carbon steel wok is the same you can buy on aliexpress, with a wooden lid included. It's pretty decent quality actually, and it wasn't as wildly overpriced. Like 10$ more than the aliexpress version, but with local shipping instead of the overseas shipping, so I don't really regret that purchase.
I am curious though because overpriced vtuber/anime girl coffee seems like exactly the kind of autistic shit some anon would spend their money on for the meme.

Hmm I tried grinding at these click past the 0 point outside the box, the grain is way way coarser than what it should be according to the suggested settings from the manufacturer.
The last one “25 clicks” should be Turkish coffee WTF.

>>
>>21006692
what?
>>
>>21006686
Idk, I just removed the grinder from the box, tightened past the zero mark to try and see if the burrs locked (they didn’t) without forcing anything and then straight went to 75 clicks and made coffee.
Don’t know what to say, I’m under the impression that as I said the 0 point outside the box isn’t the real 0 point but it’s a full rotation so 60 clicks, therefore the 75 grind size in the picture could be 135 clicks from real 0 point, in the medium coarse range.
>>
>>21006702
just start the return process asap. how much was that lemon and where did you buy it?
>>
>>21006702
>tightened past the zero mark to try and see if the burrs locked (they didn’t)
Thats your zero. 60 clicks past that would be 1 rotation. It's all relative. Your burrs don't lock so dipshits won't break their grinder by running at lock with a drill.
>>
>>21006751
>its bad on purpose so dipshits wont break it
cope
>>
>>21006738
Amazon, I already sent back one because it came dented (the courier damaged the package because apparently now Amazon to be “green” ships the products in their own boxes without protection and shit happens) but I played with it a bit without grinding coffee and it was the same, the burrs weren’t fully closed out of the box.
>>
>>21006757
The original kinu m47s had the same exact "issue". Burrs physically locked at 0.0.0, homebarista dipshit hooked his to a drill, chewed the burrs up then complained, future revisions did not physically lock at zero. That printed on 0 is just a reference point, every kingrinder's ACTUAL 0 will vary but the stepsize will be constant. If actual zero is -10 clicks, the 1 will be -10 clicks etc etc.
>>
>>21006751
Yeah anon but no absolute way that the grind size at 60 clicks should look anything like this >>21006680, because all of these are coarse, the 25 one could be moka pot size, not Turkish coffee as per the instruction manual.

This is how the burr look at 0 out of the box, there’s light visible through the inside of the grinder, so they’re not closed. Sorry for the shit picture but I can’t take a better one with my cellphone, this is like -10 past the 0 point out of the box. The burrs don’t touch as you can see in the picture I quoted but when rotating the burr from under with my fingers I can feel some minor scraping.
I can try going coarser but I fear ruining the burrs so I may as well write to kingrinder support and ask them.

I think it’s well known that the manufacturer recommended settings for the K6 are basically worthless. If I were him I ignore those recommendations and would keep turning my settings finer and finer until I either get the grind size I want. If his burrs are locking before his grind size is right then there is something very wrong with his grinder. These are my grounds at 31 clicks from 0 but my burrs don’t actually bind until I reach -5. That means my grind setting for different beans falls typically between 35-38 clicks from true 0.

You didn't get memed on and you're going to be fine. Roasting coffee beans is like making popcorn. Wait until the beans "crack" and then remove them from heat for a light roast, wait for a second crack for medium and heavier roasts. Degassing is three days, then you should be set. I’m angry because I did the same procedure with my JX Pro other times and being basically the same design I should have known how locked burrs looked like…
Btw I went down to +5 clicks from 0, the actual one, and the handle spinned although there was some friction. I stopped there to avoid messing up the grinder knowing my luck, I don’t need to find the 0 point now that I know where the grind size is at.

Thank you for your help anon and @ the troll, no, I won’t delete the Reddit thread because there could be other people that could use the info, it doesn’t matter how stupid the issue can be.

Changing topic, I tried my first Neroscuro with the K6 and despite the blatantly wrong grind size it tasted good and I could feel the improvement over the JX Pro.

Goddamnit, wish me luck anons. Make it so it either arrives tomorrow (best case) or in 3 days or later, but not in 2 days.
>>
>>21008983
For what it's worth, I'm an aliexpress shill and have bought from them for multiple years now. The amount of times that stuff didn't arrive or arrived broken/advertised wrongly was very low and each time aliexpress solved the dispute in my favor within a day.
Also regarding the 11.11 rush, it might lead to delays, but look where it ships from. They have warehouses now that mean stuff arrives within 5-7 days sometimes and 11.11 might at most add 1 day for them to start shipping your stuff.
The only real reason to buy from amazon is if you want to do a return without there being something wrong with the item. In that case amazon is much nicer than aliexpress.
>>
>>21009223
>only reason
Or if it's cheaper. I do like aliexpress though. I've only ever bought portafilter's, baskets and puck screens from them. Is there really that much difference between a decent aliexpress one and a $100+ normcore?
>>
>>21008983
>should I get it from aliexpress
Depends on which store. I got mine from "Jaffee Store" last year and it arrived reasonably quick and surrounded by a good amount of bubble wrap. Sort by number of orders.

>>21008983
>or amazon
It's nice if you want something quicker or are anticipating some kind of quality issues with the product. I got my P2 through Amazon. It just came in a box without any extra shipping protection, which I think is a big downside.

But really, you should buy from whoever is selling with the old bent handle. All the K6's I've seen on Amazon lately have been with the straight handle and spherical knob. Major ergonomic downgrade. The straight handle and spherical knob are actually uncomfortable to use. I think they changed it for copyright reasons similar to 1zpresso, or maybe they just cheaped out.
>>
>>21009285
I looked for hours trying to find a good single spouted pf on ali. Figured I could just buy a cheap head and screw it onto the stock flair or decent handles. Gave up. Hello My frens,

For strike of luck I have got a hold of a small coffee farm in south america.
The coffee has already win international prizes but it is very small.
Maybe produces 50 tons of coffee.

It tastes really good and it is an small farm where the whole family really care about it. Trade fair, organics and nice people.

Please if anyone can help me giving some pointers:

1. Where I can roast this quantity of coffee here in US?
2. Once roasted is there a good packing/distributor?
3. Any ideas for marketing?

> That's the exit for the expansion valve. It allows water to escape the brew boiler during the initial heating of the boiler, otherwise the copper tubing could burst as the water expanded in a closed system. It should stop dripping once the brew boiler reaches operating temperature. If it doesn't, the expansion valve is sticking, typically due to scale buildup
If it's happening while not being used, probably scale buildup or something causing it to stay open and leak.

trying to manage your entire supply chain yourself will fail

if your coffee scores high enough then you can sell it to specialty importers for better prices. they have entire distribution networks, import licenses, warehouses, transportation, etc already setup and operational. they will connect you with green buyers and roasters and be much more capable of selling coffee than you on your own.

even then, not all your coffee will score 80+ and it'd be a waste not to sell it. that coffee can go to any importer/green buyer that's willing to buy it for cheap and do god-knows-what-with-it but you'll make money so who cares. those buyers won't list your name/farm on the final product either.

trying to build out a roastery and sell an entire farm's worth of coffee yourself in a country you're not from or live in from what it sounds like is a bad plan. focusing on producing high quality coffee and building relationships with a specialty importer will be your best bet. if your coffee is excellent, then roasters will be happy to buy it at a premium then roast and sell it with your name/farm on the bag.

I have agreements with the usual delivery services to just leave my stuff in front of my door if I'm not home (there's not much crime where I live and nothing was ever stolen), but because this is a heavier item and it seems to come from a warehouse 1.5 countries over, they use GLS and I don't see any such option on their website, nor any option to delay the delivery (which I would much prefer, it is quite a lot of money after all).

Tried the Hodeidah San Salvador.
It’s not roasted for filter, but it’s on the lighter side of the medium roast, I brewed it with the coffee chronicler’s recipe (45 seconds bloom and 1 minute and 15 seconds infusion) 1:16 ratio.

Tons of sweetness and super light acidity, it’s still too watery for my tastes so I’ll lower the ratio for the next coffees.

It’s pleasant but the neroscuro coffee roasted specifically for filter is way more complex.

This is like my 15th coffee with the switch, I’m still learning and experimenting.
Turns out that the coffee is good but it’s still too weak and light because I’m used to a life of moka and espresso, so I’m always lowering the ratio as low as 1:13.
The first sip is like dirty water and then there’s always tons of sweetness and chocolate, I only reached some of the tasting notes with the neroscuro where I could clearly feel the tropical fruits and pineapple. It was a nice experience and the switch is cool, but the fact is I don’t have a reference point for filter coffee so I need to find a specialty coffee shop and buy a cup of v60 made by a professional to taste how it’s done.

Moka pot and espresso hurt my stomach and I “downgraded” to pour over because it was 9 months I stopped drinking coffee and since I don’t want to waste all the things I learnt in years of practice, this is the lesser evil.

How can I say that I dislike it if I never had a proper one?
Here in Italy filter coffee is ultra rare and nobody does that for the usual reasons about our coffee culture, so I don’t have a reference point to say if I like it and if I’m doing it wrong or no.
All I know is that every coffee has many tasting notes and my filter coffee tastes almost the same: thin body followed by chocolate and dried figs, prunes, dark fruit with or without some acidity (not astringent).
It’s not bad but it’s not what I’m in for.
This time I have the right coffee, third wave bullshit and all the bells and whistles, very light roast.

>This time I have the right coffee, third wave bullshit and all the bells and whistles, very light roast.
You wont get a good filter with 1:13 on a light roast, you won't extract a thing
You have a k6 which is a fine grinder, and did the switch 15 times, if you are still trying to fix your brew: or you can confidently say you dislike filter, or you dont have a clue of what you are doing (and looking by the bed, it was fine, the switch is really forgiving)

>>
>>21010719
I will have my idea once I will be able to produce cups with all or most of the tasting notes, because if every coffee tastes the same then I’m doing something wrong.
Btw I’m brewing 15 grams with 220 ml
of water, I tried different recipes and so far I think that the best one is the 4 minute immersion + a little agitation before opening the switch.
I will start using bottled water too.
I bought the K6 specifically because it has more clarity and separation of flavours since it produces less fines than my JX Pro, I don’t know how much difference there is between the same coffee made with both grinders (I can always try comparing them ofc).
I’ll keep trying and when I have the opportunity I’ll taste a v60 made by a professional.
I’m not bothered by the flavour, it’s just the lack of body that disturbs me since the times I used the aeropress (with espresso roast though), if I can improve the watery sip I’ll be happy because as I said, to this point my kukicha tea has more body and overall balance. There must be something I’m doing wrong

I used it with my plastic v60 and made decaf as soon as it arrived, I went very fine (5 on my Fellow Ode with MP SSP burs), with a Sibarist filter at 93c. 20g coffee to 340ml water 1:17, bloom for 60 seconds with 40ml water, then a single circular gentle but fast pour. The brew took 3:30-ish
It was very clean and clear, somewhat sweet with a little acidic and bright. But the main takeaway is that the cup was CLEAN.

So the main difference I noticed after my second brew (an hour ago) is that the cone holds the bed pretty well for even extraction, it did make the water flow faster but not by much. However, the flow was insanely smooth and consistent and the filter never choked. Mind you I used a TH3 filter, ground coffee at 6 on the Ode and it still flowed smoothly.

The material is thin, and the machining is simple and somewhat rough if I'm being honest. It still looks pretty when used but not as fancy as the images they have on their site.

Tip: make sure your filter sits flush with the cone when you wet it before starting your brew.

Oh sick, didn't know they had a cone booster now. I've been using their fast flat filters for a few weeks now. Pricey but they're just straight up better than wave filters of any brand I've used.

I keep a container of instant coffee ready just for such occasions. It tastes way better than the stale supermarket beans and it's also good for quick second cups when I'm feeling lazy. Don't buy expensive $2/cup instant coffee, that's pure nonsense and will never come close to pour over quality. Instead stick with something reasonable that will last a while like UCC or Mount Hagen.

New morning bins bros, Chronic 05AM italian blend, 70 Robusata/30 Arabica big stims.

>Discover our Italian blend blend , specially profiled for Italian espresso lovers. This unique blend combines full-bodied Robusta for a rich, creamy texture, with two specialty Arabicas from Nicaragua and Brazil. These Arabicas add aromatic complexity, balancing the intensity of robusta with subtle notes and natural sweetness.
>Each bean is carefully selected, certified organic and fairtrade coffee, ensuring an ethical and premium coffee experience. Enjoy an authentic espresso, rich in flavors and responsible for the environment and producers !

Pulled at 90c don't even think to try at 93c. Extremely thicc crema production, cupa is 8cl, pulled 38g but almost filled the whole cupa. Big choco nougat smellz.
In the mouth it's super thick and viscous, with nutty, dark chocolate-y and toffee notes giving way to brandy. Aftertaste is extra plus, with a 20+ min lingering taste. Really tasty and stimulating cuppa.

On a side note the Queromarca evolved into the smelliest strawberry coffee i ever had and tastes almost like pure strawberry milkshake. I'm glad i let it sit a bit, the evolution makes for a great delicious afternoon treat.

No i have it since last year. It's a stoneware cup from HKLIVING, Calypso colours and comes in sets of four.
I may have posted pics with some of the other cups.

I mean, it's down to taste anon. You might get some highly praised specialty coffee that others rave about but you hate the flavour profile. As long as you are tasting and not just dumping coffee past your tounge you can't really have self doubts.

what is the 20% effort 80% effect method of coffee making? french press?
>>
>>21013075
I've most often heard Aeropress described that way.
>>
>>21013084
ok i thought they were the same thing
so what else do i need? a grinder, a kettle and beans or is there anything else? any recommendations btw?
>>
>>21013091
Scales (0.1 g accuracy) would be recommended. I'm a neophyte myself, so I refrain from offering bean recommendations.
>>
>>21013097
i dont know what's the point but i can get one on aliexpress for like $5
i was talking about gear mostly, as cheap as possible, like <$60 ideally for everything
i guess the kettle should have a thermometer on it and that goose neck thing right?
>>
>>21013109
Dosing by mass is far more consistent than volumetric dosing (using a scoop or similar) because coffee varies in density by roast level and ground coffee can be packed tightly or loosely, changing the actual amount of coffee in each scoop. As you say, you can get scales on the cheap, so it's worth it.

There doesn't seem to be a particular need for a fancy kettle for the Aeropress, so if you have a typical electric kettle, you should be set on that front. If you don't have a kettle already, yeah, go ahead and get a reasonably priced pouring kettle. It's not necessary for the Aeropress, but may as well be ready to try filter coffee if you decide to broaden your horizons.

Tiger brand coffee is a real treat, even tigers prefer a cup of it, to real meat.

ill probably upgrade to an sr800 or genecafe eventually, especially if my popper has a more catastrophic failure
but im quite happy with it now, considering im only roasting for my own consumption
>>21008350
its a fantastic product in my opinion
theres a bit of a learning curve and they can be tricky to use out of the box, but once you figure out how to use it youll save tons of money if you want to try lots of different origins and processes, compared to paying for third wave roasted beans
