Maybe you can help i want to buy some Caffè Jesi tazzine though i only found them on lorocaffe.it but they only ship to Italy. Do you know of another place i could get some online, ideally new so not ebay or do i have to go to italy to buy some?

Thank you anon.

It's difficult to find vintage cups outside ebay, you either need to know collectors who want to trade their cups or find them in local markets.

This query can help, but there isn't the cup you're looking for: https://www.ebay.it/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=tazzina+caff%C3%A8+bar+vintage

>lorocaffe.it

They indeed say they don't ship outside Italy, you can only try to email them and ask if they can arrange an international shipping. It shouldn't be difficult for them to do so.

Hey /ctg/,

I'm looking to upgrade my grinder, coming from the 1zpresso JX. What are my options? Seems like from what I've read the C40 is the obvious choice; i don't have an espresso machine so the kinu wouldn't make a great purchase. I've seen some people mentioning the ode 2, which seems appealing, but if it isn't an upgrade over the C40 it doesn't quite make the cut (shelling out an extra 200 for better burrs kinda defeats the purpose). Is there something I'm missing? I've been 'out of the game' for a few years.

Are they not in business anymore?! I found out about them thru the INEI website and their brands page, the logo really popped out.
Thru http://www.grancaffe.info/eng/consorzio/jesi.htm i get the page www.jesicaffe.it but it redirects to caffemilani.it
I thought it was just not an international brand and really local or Ho.Re.Ca (“Hotel, Restaurant & Café”), i can't tell but it looks like lorocaffe sells some of their coffee https://www.lorocaffe.it/linea-horeca/
Being from Milano i wasn't sure if you ever heard of this company. Thanks for your time anyway.

Printing the cup is too easy and cheapens the thing imo, having to search and maybe go to italy makes it more fun and worthy to me.
Plus the 22euro for 6 cups from lorocaffe is a good price imo.

>>20995638
Prefer a nice floral when i can find it, but i'll often brew dark roasts or mixed cups when I run out of good local med/light roast. Zp6 seems appealing, I only brew filter atm, but apparently it isn't great with dark roast.

>>
>>20995664
>apparently it isn't great with dark roast
But you'd still have the jx for that. I'd say if you're wanting an upgrade with no plans for espresso the ode 2 burr might not be a bad choice across the roast spectrum. Cheap entry to 64mm flats with access to ssp/lebrew burrs if you feel the need to upgrade later. $276 this week for black friday.

My entire life, when not in a restaurant, I have drunk my coffee out of generic, 330ml ceramic mugs (those that you find when looking for photo mugs), just a straight cylinder.
Now I want to stop being a caveman, but I have no idea what I need for most coffee drinks. Are those double walled glass ones good? What sizes should I own? Are there terms for them?
Assuming I like filter, espresso and cappuccino mostly.
I basically want to know what the cup types for something like picrel are called.
>>
>>20995827
Coffee cups. Just get whichever ones you think look nice. There's people that drink espresso out of shot glasses.
>>
>>20995827
I can attest that double walled glass is the superior style for heat retention. However finding what you want is just trial and error. Just search double walled glass then type: coffee cup/mug to find what you want. For example double walled glass - latte - cortado -cap - esspresso e.c.t.
There's a number of options on sites like aliexpress.

>Kruve-thin chinese double walled glass, they've got some porcelain latte stuff now, wouldnt buy again
>Origami-very nice jap stoneware,porcelain
>Torch- handblown jap glass, I use it for everything from espresso to filter to tea to liquor to water
>NotNeutral -super heavy, durable american molded glass, more modern style for cafes, faceted so customers don't constantly break shit
https://www.slowpoursupply.co/collections/cups-and-saucers
https://www.slowpoursupply.co/collections/origami-cups
https://dodrip.net/free/lg
https://www.notneutral.com/collections/vero
People also really like stuff from loveramics.
>>
>>20995841
Thanks, would you say double walled is a straight upgrade over ceramics? I mean I assume they have better heat retention as you said and lower thermal mass, meaning you don't have to preheat them as much, but are there also downsides?
>>20995871
Thanks for all those links anon, I'm looking into it right now.
>>
>>20995915
>downsides
well your coffee will take longer to cool and open up
more of a concern with pourover than espresso of course
>>
>>20995915
You can mimic the heat retention of a double-walled cup by preheating a thick ceramic cup. I preheat my cups with the grouphead purge water and by the time the spro finishes pouring, the cup is at the perfect temp. To get the opposite effect you can use a glass with very thin walls, which doesn't need preheating because of its low thermal mass (though it does cool quickly).

Because they remind you of your school lunch which was probably the last time in your life you had some food that was lovingly prepared by someone who cared for you. Presentation matters.

Very happy with my C40
Really depends on local pricing which grinder is best
If you're in Europe you can grab a C40 for 190€ at Kofio.
Outside Europe you're probably better off with a ZP6 or K-Ultra. Grind quality is very similar, but the 1Zpresso do grind faster
Comandante does have actual customer service and good spare parts availability, 1Zpresso is pretty spotty with that.

Serious question as a coffee noob - why is there no "middle market" for coffee?
In my local Discounter I can get coffee for 10-15€/kg depending on the brand and looking up local roasters, they costs 40-50€/kg.
I know how the price differences exist, but I find it weird that I can see basically nothing in-between these two extremes of absolute bottom of the barrel lowest bidder coffee and artisanal locally roasted coffee.
>>
>>20996778
Standard practice.
>>
>>20997100
>why is there no "middle market" for coffee?
not enough demand.
if 95% of coffee drinkers on earth drink low grade coffee and the other 5% drink specialty coffee, there really isnt any real for "slightly better than slop" coffee.
if you want good coffee that is cheap you need to roast yourself.
for green beans you can get specialty beans for like $15/kg on the low end, and up to like $40/kg
and depending what roaster you buy and how much coffee you drink you can pay off the upfront investment in savings within a couple years and then its all profit from then on.

How hard should a grind be tamped? I thought one was just meant to lightly press out large air gaps without compacting the grounds too much, but I've found I can really ham them in there and it'll extract okay.
>>
>>20997465
Around 100N or harder, you'll want to tamp the coffee until it won't compress any further.
Tamping harder won't have any negative effects on the coffee, just on ergonomics.

At that point you're getting down to subtle subtle differences. For what its worth the guy who made that chart doesn't like it at all. Those kafateks are specifically the "light medium" ones so I'm assuming he means they can be dialed differently. Thinner lights and more textured mediums. Kafatek says they're the best all rounder, and also best light low ratio espresso burr so it kind of makes sense.

When you alternate between enough straight coffee and milk drinks you can still taste complexities. Milk can help mask that a shot has been over/under extracted for most but it will not mask the difference in quality.

Auctioned for $31/lb for a lot of 650 this year. Last year they won the CoE so it went for much more. It all depends on the lot. The stuff minmax has is straight from the farm so who knows what they paid.

try it and find out
obviously you are going to taste the coffee more the darker the roast OR the less milk you use.
i pay i guess $60/kg on average and have milk drinks 3-4 times a week.
in my experience you just have to brew black and taste on its own(after dialing in) and then you will know what its good for.
well maybe not someone with an unrefined palate but for me i dial in during that process understand how i should be brewing the beans and what kind of drinks i should make.
i guess at the end of the day you have to understand that specialty beans will always taste better no matter what kind of drink you make with them.

idk i often find people have really extreme feelings about milk/sugar in coffee or specialty coffee.
like yeah if you drown that shit with milk you will lose flavor and complexity and depth but that just means you have to learn how much milk to use.
or the type of sugar used depending on the coffee.
"milk dilutes/mutes/makes coffee worse" idk sounds like user error to me.
think it like EQ'ing music.
milk can cut the highs down a bit, make it not peak anymore.
sugar can raise the highs and drown out the lows.
or it can just totally change the flavor profile, a bit of high quality panela can totally change the notes without making it necessarily "sweeter"
instead of making latte and cappuccino try macchiato and cortado.
sorry if this is rambling and incoherent

Definitely rambling. Milk does not drown out highs it complements them. Sugar however definitely drowns out complexities and depth with unnecessary processed sweetness. I do prefer macchiato's and Cortados to have a nice balance though.

DF54 is solid, you can look up videos by coffeetubers (Hoffman, Lance, etc.) who all agreed it is the best budget grinder.
Since it's flat burrs it really good for pour over too.
Cons: grinds a bit slower than its big brother (DF64) and there are fewer choices for burr upgrades (and you have to open it up and tweak the internal to switch the way the burrs rotate)

Do you know the difference between natural and processed sugar anon? Do you know natural and processed sugars taste different? Do you know there are many different types of sugars? Like sucrose, fructose, lactose and galactose?
Table sugar is like 54% sucrose and 46% fructose? Do you know Sucrose breaks down in the mouth first?
Finally, do you know lactose (the sugars present in milk) have almost no sweet taste? I bet you think all types of fat are the same as well dumbass.
>>20998113
I wish you happiness anon.
>>
>>20998150
I know enough about sugar chemistry to understand that lactose tastes sweet because half of it is glucose. This (sweetness) is generally accepted to the point of being in the first paragraph of the wikipedia article of lactose. I've had a direct mouth-to-mammary connection since I was a newborn. Try developing your palate on something like a juicy east african natural then we can talk milks.
>>
>>20998173
It's broken down into glucose yes. Please do look up "sweetness levels of sugar" or hell just type "is lactose the least sweet sugar?" And report back.
Then tell me lactose has the same mouthfeel as other sugars to prove your point.

Cool, cool. Thanks for the info.
Funny that so much of this high-grade coffee is going to East/Southeast Asia where they prefer darker roasts.
>>
>>20998207
Why do people do this?
Yes it's sweeter then not adding anything. I'm not disputing that. I'll even give you the steaming process actually breaks the sugars down making them even sweeter.
But I'm saying comparatively, putting milk into coffee vs dumping a load of much higher level sweetness in processed and refined sugars by itself destroys a coffee taste wise rather than complementing it.
Just go to Starbucks at that point.

Now that we've both represented each other's arguments with bad faith metaphors we can get to the crux of whether pure sugar or milk masks the nuance of coffee more. For me it's milk, because of the sugar *and* the fat.

every jbm coffee i see is medium to dark roasted and the "issue" with that is you lose a lot of origin characteristic the darker you roast. one point i constantly encounter with people new to specialty is they don't like the acidity that comes with lighter roasted/specialty coffee. which makes sense since most people start with dark roast store bought and/or starbucks type coffee which has zero acidity. so jbm seems to be a step towards specialty quality without going too close (acidity) and shows people that coffee can be much better than what they previously realize. hopefully the gesha shows you that there's more to coffee than jbm

also the floral flavors are what really make gesha so special, the tea profile mainly refers to how "thin" the coffee feels in the mouth. some varieties have a thicker mouthfeel than others which is more apparent when you cup multiple varieties side by side. so expect floral notes, a thinner cup and more acidity than in your jbm.
>>
>>20999712
specialty coffee is not synonymous with light roast
>>
>>20999731
correct, but the majority of specialty coffee is roasted much lighter than a generic dark roasted coffee

specialty coffee can be roasted dark, but like i said you lose those specialty characteristics the darker you roast. i've posted a dark roasted gesha i had in an old thread. what made that coffee special was the roaster was able to retain the characteristics of the variety and origin at that roast level which is very difficult to do

the jbm crowd would probably like that coffee
>>
>>20999799
I unironically think they're the perfect market for quan's asian profile shit. Japan buys most of the world's blue mountain. They roast dark, that style has trickled out into the region and been honed into its own. Its not a coincidence you see places like the taiwan coffee development association buying these high end CoE lots.

It was 7 days after the roasting period, so I got impatient and tried some of the Panama Gesha(Don't worry I put the rest of the beans in a vacuum sealed one way release valve so the degassing will continue for the next seven days.)

It's really not coffee as one imagines coffee. Taste is super fruity, at times it felt like I was drinking a hibiscus tea. I always meme that you can drink JBM black but you could and SHOULD drink Gesha black, otherwise you'd have sweetness overkill. I'll try again in 7 days when the beans have reached their optimal degassing period but uh... don't really know how to rank this. It's definitely different, but I think I still prefer Blue Mountain for its more robust body. Who knows, I'll try again in 7 days

Mamma mia fratelli nuovi chicchi, Eccellenza Espresso, brasil guatemala vietnam 70/30 blend.

>A total immersion in the art of living in Mediterranean countries Made from the finest Brazilian and Guatemalan Arabicas and a Robusta from Vietnam, this Italian-roasted Eccellenza Espresso blend has a rich, powerful aroma and lends itself perfectly to a traditional espresso.

Tasty thic syrupy espresso. I've been experimenting with it for the last few days and have settled on 90c as opposed to my normal 93c temp 18g in 36g out 28s. Much smoother richer and balanced.
Body and the texture is proper thick almost like molasses. Tastes of nice chocolate, nougat and brandy. A real pleasure. Would wake you up from the dead, i've been sipping on 2 or 3 per day and it's a great pre-ride stim.
A nice contrast to the late afternoon Queromarca. This whole kilo costs less than the 250g Queromarca. Really puts into perspective how different these two cuppas are.

ayo this shit pretty good ngl
much better when brewed properly.
at first it tastes kinda foul
like prunes and sultana's that have gone bad.
but then it fades and the taste kinda reverses in age.
like going from a fruit that has gone bad and reversing its age to when its fresh again.
and so each sip is going from off to ripe as it goes down.
pretty interesting. and because the last flavor in your mouth is of a ripe prune/sultana it makes you want to take another sip.

what's a good guide on judging if a coffee is good or not? as for tea it's something you can see in the leaves and just googling brands in general. but what abotu coffee? what place grows good coffee? what brands are good?

Small pinch of this, it goes really well with these beans. I don't do it in fancier beans or black coffee.

I wonder how long until the bambino is knocked off its perch as the number 1 budget machine. I'd like to jump ahead a couple of years just to see if prosumer machines innovate or stagnate.

I have cardamom separately, would it be worth adding a tiny bit next time? (to these spices or on its own)

is going with an ugly color moccamaster the right psychological play from a minmaxxers perspective?
think about it, you see the color, your mood alleviates pre emptively before sipping the java itself, further boosting your caffeine (and perhaps sugar boost)
the psychological effects of colormaxxing, praising the sun in this case, cannot be understated
I think I discounted this vital aspect

Yes. Grind it with the beans and try on it's own and with these spices see what you like best.

I am simply looking at what is the cheapest ones in stock on amazon

>>
>>21002997

Kurasu was the place I ordered beans. They were OK. Not good enough for me to spend the money on again, there's better shit here. If you're over there explore! I always see miata owners visiting cute cafes in Japan that are hidden away and it looks so nice. I'd probably go on google maps and just scroll around clicking on places near where I'm staying and visit whatever piques my interest. Where are you going? I'm jelly.

Bangin. I need more sidra in my life. That entire farm is like 10 acres in a 1500masl cloud forest. They only grow sidra, gesha, and mejorado. The dankest (rapidly disappearing) terroir and the dankest varietals.
