how do you make coffee on the shabbat
do you pregrind? or can you use manual grinders.
wait how do you boil water?
or is that what the thermos is for
make lots of coffee before hand, put it in a thermos and hope it stays hot enough.
you could probably sous-vide coffee.
like make it and then put it in jars and then put those jars into the sous-vide to maintain the perfect drinking temp over the shabbat, like a reverse esky.

Actual anon here, i don't actually know how roasted the beans are.
>>
Got my first hand grinder for christmas (a kingrinder p2) and I only managed to get a decent espresso shot today, using the local roaster beanz. Turns out I was tamping too hard for my shit machine which has a pressurized portafilter.
This was probably not an issue for the preground I was using before because it was coarser? No idea honestly
>>
>>21074965
Pre-ground has already lost all of the CO2 from roasting. Your fresh ground beans are much gassier, at any grind size. 'Crema' is just CO2 and coffee fines. Pressurised baskets make fake crema by aerating the coffee as it pisses through a single hole. Buy a real basket next.
>>
>>21074980
It's not a pressurized basket, the basket is normal, the pressurization mechanism is in the portafilter itself, it's a gimmick on cheaper gaggias. Marginally better than pressurized baskets but still a gimmick. I should get a new portafilter altogether but it's 50€ and I'm a poorfag. Maybe in a couple months
>>
henlo i am dringing goffee in 2025
>>
>>21074987
So its something like this?
https://espressocare.com/products/saeco-pressurized-portafilter-2018
Looks to me like it aerates the coffee by pissing it through a single hole, after the spring valve valve compresses a bit, into a splitter.

Good year bros.

I’m almost done with the Pacamara, I had to reduce the dose to 10 grams so the bag is lasting forever.

The coffee changed smell and flavour a bit during the month, I’ve been brewing in full immersion 4 minutes with boiling water 1:16 ratio and playing with grind size.

Today’s cup was ground at 70 clicks on the K6, it was very sweet, the first sip is always super sweet, but the cocoa nibs acidity cannot be removed from this coffee. Aftertaste and smell is always tropical fruit, it’s pleasant but if only had some fucking body to connect both ends it would be a nice experience.

I can’t honestly feel changes even by grinding with big steps in difference but I can feel them by brewing with different methods like hybrid or full V60.

I have 2 more traditional nero scuro light roasts in the freezer and the Brazilian chokky one from the German roaster, I’ll probably go with this one for the next month because I want a more traditional taste. Hopefully.

I went to a third wave coffee shop, but the barista sort of rolled his eyes at me when I asked for third wave coffee, and made quotation marks with his fingers when describing third wave. Is "third wave" not a universally accepted term? If so I guess I could understand that - some island coffee I've had has bright notes that set it apart from your typical Starbucks, referred to as second wave but not the fruity flavors you'd expect from a third wave
>>

Anon I mentioned giving coffee to people during a secret santa I didn't post any animu besides one picture of a barista from Nichijou because I found the dialogue around how something can be "coffee" and yet not taste like "coffee-coffee" relevant to my exploration and issues with third wave.

In what world is two posts, that are mostly focusing on coffee, spam?
>>
>>21078056
>Is "third wave" not a universally accepted term?
its an "era" of coffee.
its like going to an art dealer and saying "i want a neoclassical painting" which they will give you but not before rolling their eyes and thinking you are of a lower class or whatever.
a more accepted term would be "specialty", but an even more common term would be "single origin coffee"
>>
>>21078056
yeah single origin is the term you're looking for, the term and the meaning. you can look at their menu and see if they have coffees from somewhere (regions of ethiopia, kenya, guatemala, colombia, etc.) listed under espresso, pourover, or drip
good odds they sell the beans they use, in which case you can look at the board, go look at the beans they have for sale on a shelf somewhere, and read over the tasting notes to see if you might like it

More people lurk/post when the OP is of higher quality. These last three threads have been pretty blatant trolling. Most of the regulars simply left, they'll probably be back when overall thread quality improves.
Even the weeb OPs still get traffic because at least they're sincere in their coffee enthusiasm.
I remember last year's New Year's thread hit bump limit within a day because the OP was a funny little collage of /ctg/ memes.

Eh Pink Bourbon is my new go to. There's supposedly a really good ethiopian at a goffee shop near me, gonna try some day if I can
>>
>>21079208
Once again, you have a very shallow view of coffee. You've had one single crop from one single producer from one single roaster. You're not going to love every pink bourbon. Not every gesha is going to taste like the washed janson.
>>
>>21079214
Young master, the frog may not have wings, but he cannot even hope to get out of the well if he does not attempt to leap. I have tried three different types of Pink Bourbon and so far I've found the Rodriquez from Ley roasters to be the best for my tastes. It's brighter than the Wilton Benitez "potion" variant I tried and has more of a body than the Nicaraguan washed pink bourbon I had a chance to try at a friend's.

>>
>>21079241
its called zeroing
the cheaper the grinder the less likely that it is properly zeroed from the factory.
i cant find a zeroing guide specifically for the p1 but i assume you are able to find the zero point and then move the numbers to the point where the zero point and the zero number line up.
but then again its a $30 grinder so if you cant do that then i wouldn't exactly be surprised.
>>
>>21079259
i dont care and neither should you.
>>
>>21079241
The answer is no, you can't change it.
>>21079233
Wilton Benitez doesn't call his coffees "potion". That's the random branding a random roaster uses for process forward coffees. So you like washed coffees more than thermal shock anaerobic coferments. And it's "Rodriguez". Dieson Rodriguez. Lower altitude farm than Granja Paraiso.
>>21079259
Mazzer has much more money for shills. You'd think YouTube's biggest shill would be cashing their checks.
>>
>>21079261
>>21079270
Welp. Just seems a bit odd to spend the extra effort in having a machine put the numbers in the dial for a cheap grinder then. Thanks anyhow, I was wondering whether I was missing something obvious
>>
>>21079273
Its just a reference. "Zero" + 30 clicks/one rotation is "One". For what it's worth most grinders don't let you change the dial.
>>
>>21079270
Woah Anon, if you're gonna chide me for over-generalization, wouldn't it be a bit quick to say I liked washed more than thermal shock anaerobic? Had a really good anaerobic coffee I'd say was on par or better than the Rodriguez from a coffee shop I went to a few days ago, too bad I forgot its name and origin. I'll ask when I go today and post my thoughts, maybe then you can tie up my tastes in a nice little bow, which I guess is ok when you do it.
>>
>>21079285
You've been felating washed amazon jbm and panama robusta blends for weeks. Youve bitched about anything with any sort of funk or forward acid. I think it's safe to say that's your preference. If this imaginary coffee shop anaerobic was any good, you'd remember it and would have started spamming about it by now.
>>
>>21078696
I've been drinking lots of single origins from around the world and I'm realizing that there isn't actually that much difference between them unless you go for a weird process (like anaerobic)
>>
>>21079327
you are wrong and have bad taste
panama
ethiopia
png
burundi
brazil
honduras
india
all taste different, even when just normal washed process.
and that flavor changes again when natural process.
>>
>>21079337
Well when you’re including poopshit low altitude coffee from Brazil/India/etc. I guess there might be a difference
A washed Costa Rican and a washed El Salvador are going to taste very similar, similar enough that I would need to taste them side by side to tell a difference
>>
>>21078756
>>21079241
No you can't
I have a P2 and the zero on the indicator is at 18 clicks, which luckily it's perfectly fine for espresso which is all I'm using it for
>>
>>21079294
Nah I liked the anaerobic better than the panama after I tried several cups and compared them with JBM, I was just busy that day so I forgot what it was. Which by the way I have figured out is best from the Clydesdale Estate - you get the fruitiness of a third wave but the low acidity of JBM.

Anyways, remember the context of me liking the Panama - it was the context of looking for a Trader Joe tier coffee with trader joe tier prices.

Yes, though after reassembly my zero is bit different than factory output. Factory's #1 was bit mushy, like there was about 1/3rd of force left. For me #0 is blocked but #1 is already smooth.

Every other video he releases, he's a "consultant" or "advisor" for the product. Combine that with flawed and skewed testing, chasing the results he wants and moving the goalposts to get there.

Now add to that:
financial bias, confirmation bias, anchoring bias, framing bias, reputation bias, defensive bias, popularity bias, echo chamber effect, selection bias, goal-post moving, recency bias, novelty bias, and early adoption bias.

New year new beans brohs, wild fruity abyssinians.

>The moss-covered, densely interwoven coffee plants in the mountain rainforest of Yeyibito have a mystical effect. The ancestors of today's 166 coffee farmers, who collect their wild Arabica on an area of 206 hectares of forest, already knew that a unique coffee thrives here.

>The wild coffee cherries collected are dried naturally in the sun by the farmers and sorted bean by bean after peeling. For the Wild Coffee Collection, we select the best beans and roast them into a fruity coffee.

>The Wild Coffee Collection is a limited and numbered edition of 480 bags/year from Kaffa workshop.

Tasty, delicate, fruity and balanced. Perfect for a a gentle start to the year.

Choco is Garçoa Bundibugyo 70%

>We produce this single origin chocolate from the cocoa beans of the producer organization Semuliki Cooperative Union in the Bundibugyo region of Uganda. The cocoa for this chocolate is fermented and dried directly on the individual farms. The special thing about it is that they do this using a specially developed fermentation protocol in piles covered with banana leaves.

>Bundibugyo 70% tastes invigorating, fruity-sweet, with ripe berries and surprising citrus accents.

Matches great with teh bio Yeyibito.

Lance never gave me the idea that he goes in a video wanting a result, but after getting a result, he will try to defend it and shill it through the rest of time
He just is convinced of the stuff he does and does not want to change his belief, it's like his video on dial-in pour overs where he would change the temperature for different coffees within 3 degrees, while stating many other times that it doesn't make a difference
I was excited for the mazzer review, but seeing that it was a comparison with the zerno, it was expected of what he wants to say
Its not that he goes in a review thinking something, its that he is really stubborn on changing his opinion, and seeing that he comes from academia, you can see he uses his "im a professional" way more than any other coffee youtuber
Kinda sad since a lot of his videos are helpful, I wish hoffmann did more stuff like this instead of meme shit (which is kinda fun in a way)

today i realized that i can just put my clever dripper on the cup from the start and use it "like" a normal v60(its not a cone but the concept is similar enough)
so if i dont feel like doing steep and release i can just brew smaller, faster cups that have a lighter profile.
just felt like a total retard when that realization popped into my head.
i was going to buy some loveramics drippers but i thought do i really need another filter brewer right now? and then it hit me, the clever is sort of 2 filter brewers in one.

oh and i dont really have a review of the hg1, i will probably keep sprinkling little thoughts, details and feelings about it in these threads for a while but for now have a picture of what it looked like in the box when i opened it.
sorry its a bit fuzzy and grainy, i dont have a good camera.

the hg1 surprised me today, i was too lazy to rdt and just wanted a quick 15g filter brew and just chucked the beans in and ground them... and no static or mess, really weird.
usually there is a little even when i rdt.
maybe something to do with the weather, very muggy, stormy weather the last few days and a couple hours before i ground there was a huge thunder storm so maybe the metal of the grinder became differently charged and didnt generate the usual amount of static(??????)

what a wonderful piece of engineering, what was your previous grinder? did you feel any difference in taste?
>>
>>21083888
>what was your previous grinder?
rok grinder
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdsqF83x9rA
>did you feel any difference in taste?
yes hoff also reviewed the weber hg2(which is essentially the same grinder as the craig lyn hg1 prime except like $600 more expensive)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL65i1XhVec
and like he says the hg1 has a ton of body, super rich flavor and great mouth feel. they are 83 mm conical burrs, thats generally the coffee that that type of burr makes. and thats the kind of coffee i prefer.
i respect high clarity burrs but i just prefer a heavier coffee.

but because these burrs are so new and are going to take alot longer to really break in i doubt what im tasting now is its "true profile"
but it does have extremely consistent particle size, especially after using the blind shaker.
and again like hoffmann says the grounds that it produces look incredible, the rok made great coffee for the burrs it had. and the coffee grounds from it also looked good but comparing the 2 doesnt even really feel possible or fair.
like comparing a $20,000 car vs a $200,000 luxury sports car.
like yes they have similar features and do similar things in similar ways but ultimately you cant really compare them in any meaningful way.

i love my rok and i think im always going to have it(im planning on taking it apart and cleaning, polishing, reassembling it and displaying it) but the rok felt like i was simply using a tool to grind coffee beans into a powder.
but using the hg1 it feels like im the head chef and it is the sous-chef and we are working together to create something incredible.
(but i do prefer the way you hold/use the rok it has 2 "legs" that provide much more stable support and you put your hand right on top and push down through the center of mass, whereas the hg1 you hold a handle and have to use alot more force in a sort of forwards and down pressure which is off the center of mass, idk like if you combined the rok and the hg1 it'd be 10/10)

>>
>>21084258
>Is this your optimal roast?
no but i roasted a bit conservatively for the first batch
it was a large batch and i hadnt roasted these beans before.
i would prefer a little darker.
still tasty tho.
they actually tasted darker than they look.
next time i roast i will probably try to go a little darker. but seeing the exact color of them can be hard when roasting and you cant get them to the color you want while its roasting because they will continue to get darker as they cool down.
so you might hit your target in the roast chamber but then overshoot it during the cooling process
so you have to start the cooling process before you hit your target and hope that there is enough heat left to get there.
professionals do it with science and data and computers and shit but at home you just gotta feel when its right or wrong and go from there.

I've got 2 bialetti machines, a 6 cup and a 2 cup, plus a hand grinder.

Today's brew is Lavazza Super Crema.

The right way of doing is using cold water, don't go using hot water as you will not get the full flavour nor the full economy of the machine. Also; once brewed, stir the coffee in the pot before pouring it. You'll get all of those delicious oils mixed into the cup straight away.

>literally drink coffee every day, and sometimes even 6 large cups because of how delicious it tastes
>the DeLonghi coffee machine is literally god tier and delivers the best quality I can imagine

I literally see no difference between the cheap beans from LIDL with the cheapest DeLonghi machine I could find compared to the ultra expensive coffees.

I drink all my coffee raw with zero additional stuff. Just tap water and beans grinded through my DeLonghi and pressed into my cup.

All this bullshit about "coffee difference" is just bullshit. Literally the cheapest beans coffee with the cheapest coffee machine I could find and normal tap water is for me more than enough.

Just imagine you can enjoy coffee every day, drink as much as you want, and see no meaningful difference in your money expenses.

I can't understand how people buy $1k+ machines and insanely expensive coffee. I love my coffee and I pay not even $100 in a year for coffee and I have the sub $300 machine already for year. And I talk about insane coffee consumption of at least 4+ LARGE cups per day.

If you spend insane amounts of money on coffee, just buy a cheap coffee machine (look up reviews if you can't get a very cheap DeLonghi), buy cheap bones from a grocery store you trust, and just test drinking this raw coffee for a months.

I wouldn't touch any expensive coffee anymore, because of how delicious my giga cheap coffee is.

Stupid question from a first-time owner of a hand grinder:

I wasn't expecting that the output would stick so much to the grinder, or that even removing the receiver to actually use the grinds would cause so many little pieces to go floating around. I've taken to using the brush not for cleaning, but to actually make sure the coffee that is not on the receiver gets there. Is this normal? Is it supposed to be messy, or is it just because I'm new

best adjustable grinder under $50 I can find on amazon? I picked up some single farm beans from a place in Kailua Kona, Hawaii. They used a scale, grinder, water heater and a pour over. I've got the middle two, but need a decent grinder and pour over set.

no

There are a lot of c3 style copies at that budget and who really knows. I like the unooder that was blown out at $16. It uses the basic undermount click adjustment. It has better ergonomics despite being smaller and having less micro adjustment than my icalifas. Zerohero looks cool at $65. Anything past these is 1zpresso, kingrinder territory.

90% of coffee taste is just the beans and then everything after that varies from mildly impactful to autism

how much coffee grounds is in a rounded tbsp?
>>
>>21091739
15-20 gr, heavier the higher altitude, lighter with the roast time
>>
>>21091755
i see coffee scoops on amazon at 10g so are those supposed to be half-tbsp ?
>>
>>21091761
might be, or just auto generated ESL word slop

Yeah its official I'm in love with this one, might even beat [redacted]. It's like a parody of a third wave since it does the same fruity notes and brightness but just way over the top with all of them. Too bad the bean blend is sold by a roaster 16 hours away from me. Guess i could always just buy a lb of both of the listed beans

Currently on holiday in New Zealand. Though I'm not looking for "the best" coffee places. Thought I'd wander and try whatever place labels themselves as having great coffee.
First up bay of Islands in the town of Russel a small Cafe attached to one of the oldest printing press and book bindery.
"The French coffee house", labels themselves as serving "French coffee". They didn't have espresso on their menu so that was a bad sign, I ordered a Latte instead. French coffee is apparently code for heavily overextracted, pasteries are good though. 2/10 thank you for reading my blog.

Currently on a cruise and visiting both islands. Still north at the moment. The cruise ship is using lavazza beans and I'm drinking black on board as it's free. I won't speak on the horror of its taste.
Stopped in Auckland today, nice place. Highly recommended the Weta workshop for anyone interested in movies and/or movie making, fantastic experience.
Stopped at a little tucked away place called Chuffed who advertised themselves with a sign as a "specialty coffee" place. Still no espresso on the menu so I ordered a macchiato instead. Sour is the word here, badly underextracted, the dollop of milk did nothing to mask it. The "Barista" asked me how my coffee was when I went to pay, not wanting to be rude, I diverted the conversation and asked him what kind of roast his beans were. I shit you not he gave me a blank look. I said "you know, medium, dark?" He said "oh no, not dark they're brown" pointing to the hopper the beans were in. I nodded and promptly left. Nice food though. 1/10.
