A good thread deserves a sequel.Fanart old and new welcome!Previous: >>3854618
>>3855934Please share all of your treasured death note yaoi memories.
L is a cutie patootie and I want to take him home.
>>3855934the usage of lawlight as the main thread's image is *chef's kiss*
>>3855936christ this pic is taking me waaay back
>>3855938he is :3
Ohba foaming at mouth at prospect of Light being shipped with other dudes, and then Obata is drawing him with sluttiest, most grabbable tiny waist ever existing in manga panels
:3
>>3855936just got into anime recently so I didn't experience the series at it's peak but despite that I still can imagine how big the pair was back then and how influential LawLight was on yaoi genre in early 2000's (to Ohba's dismay lol)hope that some veteran fujo stumble upon this thread and share her experience in first years of fandom :3
"aaa-h"
>>3856259I felt like I was too restrained with the LawLight last thread. I'm glad you approve! Only the most toxic of yaoi will do.
>>3856264If Obata didn't want Light to get shipped with men then he shouldn't have made such a gay manga.
>>3856598Death Note would not have been half as popular as it was, or have had half the staying power, if it wasn't being fueled by the collective power of fujoshi. Mangakas like Ohba and Obata would do well to remember that.
An anon in the current HP thread was kind enough to share this link, which leads to the download for a txt file that contains links to various other mediafire shared folders from years past, including numerous DN folders. If other people are looking for old fanart, here's your best resource. I know I'm currently downloading everything available. http://www.mediafire.com/view/ybob8dy5mymueeo/cm_shared_folder_%28updated_8-22-15%29.txt
>>3856638the power of toxic yaoi is too strong to hold it back, especially in Death Note fandom lol
>>3856639If Ohba didn't want Light to get shipped with men then he should learn to write better women and romance instead of making his protagonists as similar and perfect for eachother and their steamy and homoerotic relationship as plot's main focus
>>3856641truth. fujoshis are carrying this fucking fandom and keeping it still alive. Madhouse appreaciate our contribution by giving us this fucking iconic rooftop scene.>Mangakas like Ohba and Obata would do well to remember that.yeah... or they can double down and brushing off the problems gay people struggle with in their work (yep I'm looking at you, Platinum End)
I don't think I I made it past a chapter into Platinum End. Was it that bad? I could never get into Bakuman either. How did they manage to hit gold once and then never again?
>>3856675didn't even bother to pick it up to be honest lol but I saw a a fuckload of threads and reviews on how bad PE is, including few manga panels featuring THE homophobic lady tm>How did they manage to hit gold once and then never again?DN isn't a masterpice but still is pretty ambitious project. the plot's premise of doing crime without being caught, the mindgames and Light fucking around with rules in the Notebook were pretty interesting; also the character writting was really good (mostly male ofc). I think now Ohba and Obata are just out of creative juice after putting so much work that they struggle to exceed fan's expectations after their magnum opus
If that Matt/Mello anon is still around, I have spent the better part of my day off compiling images for one of the artists you were posting in the previous thread from old shared /cm/ files, and now I have a folder with about 570 unique images I feel fairly confident were made by them. I'll share it if you want it. I believe the artist is the BL mangaka Okuyama Puku, though at the time I think they were part of a doujin circle called 愛lovelove.
They could draw a pretty cute L too, imo
>>3856790>>3856791>>3856792>>3856793>>3856794holy shit those are rare, thank you
>>3856797Well, if you want the mostly complete collection, it's here. I think there may have been some images posted on their now defunct website that were not archived in the saved folders and were not captured by the Wayback machine, and those might just be lost forever at this point. But this is the majority of them.https://www.mediafire.com/file/qdcae176qfdx0bq/Okuyama_Puku_DN_art.rar/file
Unrelated, but these little oekaki doodles are the cutest fucking things I have ever seen.
Always make sure you get your catboys neutered. It's the responsible thing to do.
>>3856846>>3856790Me from the last thread -- thank you so much! I'd never seen a lot of these pictures before, this is really incredible archaeology. I loved this artist, and Puku Okuyama, but somehow it didn't click for years that they were actually the same person kekI actually have one of her doujins! I had this fairly delirious idea a few years ago that I'd start collecting physical Matt x Mello doujins now that the pairing is no longer popular and prices have presumably gone down. In the end I bought like four and then lost motivation
>>3856850I adore the small dimension pixels/oekaki style, sad it's totally dead now ;_;
>>3856858and not allowing them to experience their first heat?? ruuuude ><
>>3856865That's really cool, anon! Though, since doujinshi are printed in limited quantities, I imagine prices would increase?I know the pain of trying to collect doujinshi as a gaijin, and it isn't fun. I understand that doujinshi artists need to recoup the costs of printing with sales, but it drives me absolutely nuts that more care isn't being taken to preserve old fanworks. So many doujins have probably been lost to time now, since nobody ever scanned them and they will never be reprinted.
>>3856873Ultimately I don't know much about the second-hand doujin market (any smarter anons please weigh in!) but I get the impression there's a strong flavour-of-the-month element to prices and to what attracts bidders at auction. I got all of these at opening bid if I recall. Print runs are low, but I imagine the survivability rate is high compared to tankos and magazines and etc. But I might be completely off-base here. And yeah I wish they were being catalogued and preserved more systematically -- in its tiny way this is a genuine episode of art history. I dream about a central Matt/Mello archive but, of course, someone has to take one for the team and buy and scan the things, which is a massive ask.
>>3856866Yeah, I think the the anti-aliased look can be really charming. And it's always impressive when an artist can create nice artworks from such limited tools.
It would appear that as of Jun-2021 Okuyama is still drawing pictures of Mello and posting them to twitter. That's true dedication! Let us all strive to be a faithful to our husbandos as Okuyama is to Mello
>>3856895I'm so out of touch, I didn't even know she'd stopped doing BL until today(!)I wish her all the best.
need more fluffy lawlight pics, NOW
>>3857115Okay, anon. Settle down
Do you think maybe the handcuffs are a little like the red string of fate, or am I reading too much into it?
>>3857168Im always surprised that the handcuff thing wasnt supposed to be gay despite it being the gayest fucking thing in the world
>not a single Near postShame on you guys for not posting best boy
>>3857223planned to but I wasn't sure if shota was allowed lol
I know this isn't fanart but I couldn't help myself when Near looks so fucking cute in there
>>3857233His canon age is 17 so he's not a shota, he just looks like one
>>3857223Here is some Near just for you, anon.
Haven't read Another Note yet, but long-hairws Near looks really cute. Wish this had been his design in the original.
>>3857168Might as well be. In the alt continuity where L outlives Light, L wears Light’s watch as a memento and openly looks forward to seeing Light again after death so they can “explore the world of nothingness together” and the credits song is… interesting. Whether by intention or not, DN is still the gayest shounen in existence in all its incarnations.>You are the only one I've ever known>That makes me feel this way, couldn't on my own>I wanna be with you until we're old>You've got the love you need right in front of you>Please come home
>>3857331jfc, he wants to "explore the world of nothingness together"? Everything I learn about the various DN adaptations just gets gayer, and gayer and gayer, like they were on a mission or something. I guess I have to watch those movies now.
I've fallen in love with this artist's old works. Yunico was their name when they were doing DN art, and they were part of a doujin circle called L.M.T. Now they go by the name Nanayon on twitter.
Luckily, quite a few hi-res scans of their work exist online
I would love to be able to find higher resolution copies of these ones, though.
>>3857364These are really nice anon, I feel like you don't see watercolour stuff nearly so much nowadaysWhat actually are these scans of, doujin covers?
>>3857375Watercolor always looks so lovely. Digital art just isn't the same. Most of these are probably from doujinshi, and the hi-res scans were found via Minitokyo.>>3857364>>3857365Seem to be from a doujin called Free. (the Light image I am assuming from the filename)>>3857361Is from a doujin called CO 3 by LMThttp://gallery.minitokyo.net/view/284774>>3857363Is from a postcard, according to a comment on the Minitokyo pagehttp://gallery.minitokyo.net/view/260104>>3857359The OP on Minitokyo says this is from a "stationary sheet", I'm not sure what that means.http://gallery.minitokyo.net/view/318883>>3857360This one I also found on Minitokyo, and it only says it's from a doujinshi , but it doesn't list which one. It's the only colored image that got preserved from the artist's defunct website. https://web.archive.org/web/20110814091820fw_/http://www.ebi-s.net/o-pict/kyuusoku.htmlhttp://gallery.minitokyo.net/view/260101The Santa L image was a dead-end for me, but a poorly upscaled and edited version has been frequently reposted online. I'm guessing it was only ever posted to the artist's defunct website in low res, or nobody ever scanned it if it was printed. Same with pic related. The preservation of fanworks is my passion.
>>3857421>The preservation of fanworks is my passion.I can tell! This is real dedication. Years and years ago when I was doing scanlation we had this very ambitious plan (which went almost nowhere in the end -- many such cases) to cover all the obscure pre-fame works of this one mangaka we really admired. A very fun challenge trying to track down all her early doujins, done under different names and etc., at the second-hand retailers. You remind me of that a lot.>>3857359No idea either! I'm guessing it's just two bits of bonus art on loose pages that came with the doujin, I've seen that before but never in colour I don't think. Fantastic job by the scanner in stitching the two halves together, incidentally.>>3857366Yeah maybe this and the one below are both the artists' original upload to their website, seeing as they're 500px wide exactly?Picrel is one of my scans -- funny to find it on Minitokyo
getting a little lazy after christmas break aren't we, fujoanons?
>>3857916My apologies. Allow me to remedy this.
I'm sorry I have to say it again, L is so fucking cute
>>3857950yall sins have been forgiven v_v
>>3857959preach
>>3857974Light should really be more careful when he is eating yogurt.
>>3857994yeah, dumbass can't even aim at his own mouth
>>3858148I love that you had that locked and loaded, anon.
>>3858247happy to deliver
Gonna post some more Lawlight because it makes me happy.
Maybe it's crass to ask, but who do you prefer on top? I can see argument either way.I saw some old discourse about how "uke!L" is overdone, but from what I've seen there seems to be a pretty even split in both doujins and fanfiction. That makes sense, since the two are framed as equal matches by the narrative. In fact, I think I see more fics with L topping the last decade of AO3 fics. Maybe it's one of those cases where a trope was so over-done people got sick of it and pendulum swung hard in the other direction.Since Light is kind of an evil bastard and completely full of himself, I can see the appeal of humbling him and making him take the D, especially from a law and order standpoint. But I prefer seeing their relationship as reciprocal, and I can't image Light relinquishing control in any consensual scenario. I feel like L would let Light be in charge just to see how much of his Kira-side he lets slip. Besides, L gives the impression of being kind of lazy, and he doesn't have anything to prove (unlike Light). And I think it's kind of hot when the younger man is topping.
An anon in the old thread requested a folder share of old DN art, so here's an unsorted mess of images I saved off 4chan and fanart sites circa 2007-2011. Not completely devoid of /c/ or /y/. Enjoy!https://www.mediafire.com/file/zeb8uzf12o0prcc/Old+DN+art.zip/file
A little Near and Mello, to add some variety.
I remember reading that one fic where Mello is raping Near in a shed at Wammy's while Matt keeps watch outside. Good times.
>>3859369Anon, you can't just post that without dropping a link.
>>3855934
