If she's going to give most of what he was orginally intended for to Lucifer then she needs to reexamine his motives and tweak his place in the story (ideally while keeping in mind he is a fan favorite and should be respected as a character if only for the sake of merch sales). But that seems beyond her scope without a wrangler.

Despite all the bad leaks I really like this shot if a theory I like is correct. A long time ago someone posted that their interpretation of Vox and Alastor’s old friendship was that while Vox idolized Alastor, Alastor enjoyed Vox’s company but never really saw him as an equal more like an entertaining pet. Even in the first season there is no point where Alastor acts threatened by anything Vox does and laughs it off the entire time. Angel? Husk? Pentious? Vox? Non threat. Lucifer? Adam? Potential threat. Yet his interactions with them he still acts like he's morally superior, because he thinks he is. Alastor exhibits traits strongly aligned with the Vulnerable Dark Triad, and this makes him slightly ego centric, even in times of danger. Even if Vox gets the upper hand I can't see him thinking 'oh no, I underestimated him', as much as I can 'how embarrassing that this pathetic piece of shit currently has the upper hand'.

Everyone thinks that the other Vees joined in and Alastor couldn't beat them, but what if that wasn't true? Maybe Alastor was still winning, but Rosie yanked on his chain and took him out of the fight, making it look like he couldn't finish the job. Hence the coward allegations.
