Tom King has always been a hack. He writes plebbit-bait sloppa (cable soap operas) and retards eat it up. His action scenes are dogshit, his paneling is atrocious, and his characters are weak. Even Bird seems to acknowledge that he sorta missed the mark with Ratatouille, since he hasn't directed more original animation films since. Even if you like the film, it's hard to deny that it's easily Bird's weakest animation screenplay. It's not nearly as tight or well written as Iron Giant and Incredibles' screenplays. Lots of awkward interactions and not particularly funny jokes.
