Island was supposed to be the 3rd answer to BNW's ending, but instead it's a series of nonsense rambling about basically communism and a perfect society based on drug use. It's not really a story, but instead just a bunch of diatribes with a minor narrative to string it along. It was Huxley's last book and he was mescaline addict at the time.

Barbara Gordon/Batgirl was only created in the first place because the TV show producers wanted a Batgirl on their show to goose ratings.

DC has never known what to do with her, but Infantino designed such a great look for her that the fans won't let them forget about her. It's a little like what Marvel is dealing with now with Spider-Gwen.

Barbara as Oracle was the best incarnation of the character, but some folks (probably licensing) won't let Batgirl go.

Nah, Garth Ennis is just as much of a capeshit fan as all the people in this thread both praising and lambasting him. And he's the same as a lot of other cape comic writers, he's got his obvious faves and the guys he really hates, and he's also got a huge ego and love for trying to act more "mature" than he really is. And he's got a rather warped view of superheroes and WWII that doesn't really quite map to the reality of the situation, especially in regards to Captain America.

And that's fine. You can be a good writer but still have flaws. He doesn't have to be perfect, he can be good. Problem is that his fanboys refuse to see that, so any criticism of the man is liable to get screams of how someone's just a whiny crybaby who can't stand to see their favorite heroes taken down a peg, when it's just Garth being a juvenile dumbass ragging on cape heroes he doesn't like in the exact same vein as every other cape comic writer of his ilk. Just with more rape and peepee poopoo jokes thrown in.

Garth Ennis is in the comics business cause he likes comics and cape comics in particular. People just refuse to treat him like the human he is instead of some divine prophet revealing to the world that cape comics...not super deep and complex and kind of juvenile at heart.

When this is the same guy who made a character named Arseface and made a crappy zombie comic where some evil redneck whacks a guy in the face with a ripped off horse cock and admitted he wrote The Darkness for cash despite hating it. Like, seriously, comics aren't always that deep, and neither is Garth Ennis.

For a man who constantly complains about the cape genre he sure spends a lot of time working in the cape genre. The actual highlight of The Boys is Ennis showing that Butcher has zero difference in behavior from the villains in that series which is a pretty big self-indictment because Butcher is his preferred protagonist archetype. His war books rely heavily on pop culture history, stereotypes, and biases rather than actual historical accuracy which might work for the ones that are actual comedy (don't worry, there is no way any of the lads who fought in those conflicts might be insulted by writing them as a farce, unlike those superheroes) but not for the dramatic pieces.

Revivals like these usually aren't, but at least they got to do some things that they never did in the original series.
Also, this is probably just nostalgia, but seeing all these characters and their world again was really fun, it's like they never left and now I kinda just want to see more of them, there are a lot more of potential stories to be told.
