After seeing the first season again Marco really suffered a lot under Star's fuckery like growing Rapunzel level of hair and then her manually cutting it instead of using magic or the time she ditched Marco in a fight to help one of Ludo's henchmen. But them having each other's back despite the circumstance and by the end of season 1 being really great best friends was a nice payoff.
Im still bummed that fanfic i read years ago and finally finished now after someone gave me a link to it a few months ago of marco returning from hecapoos dimension and having ptsd not being filled with angst and also being unfinished iirc
