Why do stop motion films always tend to be expensive flops?

>Because big normie is lobotomy teir.
This. Committing to making a stop-motion film is such a big brain move, it pretty much automatically precludes any sort of normie appeal. If you're smart and dedicated enough to make a stop-motion movie you're probably not even capable of dumbing yourself down enough to understand or appeal to normies.

I'll say it like that from now on.

This show was huge in 1999 and had tons of merchandise and it was basically Nick's biggest Nicktoon behind Rugrats, but in 2000, the show was cancelled after 68 episodes. Meanwhile, Wild Thornberrys (which premiered the same year) was renewed up to 84 episodes (later getting 7 more, making it 91 total) and got a theatrical movie. CatDog fell from popularity dramatically in 2000 with how Nick didn't renew it for more episodes

Why do some act like CatDog was never a craze? Everyone who experienced Webkinz in the late 2000s agrees that was a craze/fad, so how come some think CatDog wasn't a craze/fad? CatDog went from an inescapable huge hit in 1999 to getting canned in 2000

That's the weird part. Logically, Sweet P should be essentially be Billy since the Lich possessed Billy's corpse and on account of him being able to possess the snail, which is way smaller than his previous form, it would indicate that he doesn't need his own corporeal form. However, in many ways it comes across like the Lich's possession was more like him just wearing Billy's skin over his own body, Prismo even describing him as "a ghost wearing a dad guy". Notably, Sweet P also doesn't really look like Billy aside from being the same height, Billy had blue-grey skin, red hair, pointy ears and six fingered hands, none of these features apply to Sweet P. Weirdly enough, the skeletal form of the Lich right before he turned into Sweet P. does not have six fingered hands, implying it's not actually Billy's skeleton, but he does have a weird metal plate on his left rib cage, which may indicate that is what's Billy's surgical scar was for, even though the scar is much higher up. I would default to Bobby, Billy's farmworld counterpart, as an explanation in line with "maybe that's what a non-mutant version of Billy would look like" but Bobby doesn't really look more like Sweet P. than any other farmworld human.

For better or worse, the indication seems to be that Sweet P. was just created out of the Lich, with Billy being completely ignored despite that logically being his body. Maybe Sweet P. is what the human the Lich incarnated in when the bomb dropped looked like but that's pure speculation.

For a time, Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi was Cartoon Network's biggest hit, being the next Powerpuff Girls and Dexter's Lab in terms of how much of a craze it was, yet despite this, the craze stopped less than 2 years later. Just months after the Macy's Thanksgiving Day float, the two DVDs coming out, a toyline being released, and having a GBA game, the show was canned with 5 episodes unaired in the states. The last thing ever made for the show were costumes which were released in October 2006, but were being made months prior and by the time those were released, Cartoon Network stopped airing it period

I'd compare it to how CatDog was a craze with how it was everywhere back then along with Rugrats and yet, despite that, CatDog stopped at just 68 episodes, but atleast CatDog reran on Nick til like 2005, while Puffy was dropped less than 2 years after it came out

Oh, and how did Invader Zim not even get to the 52 episode minimum either? That show was huge back in the day. It had a huge fanbase and yet, it had half of the minimum amount for syndication. It never got to 52/65/78 episodes

>>152122308
To my knowledge they were pretty big, sort of "always on the scene but never totally dominated it" level of popularity.
This discussion needs to be framed to one thing. This was pre AKB48, that is important. Idols were just celebrities back then compared to the almost cultish followings they have now, but here's the thing
https://youtu.be/1md3qCyBWvo?si=rqGxW0m1RSlJ71Xb
This is a 30 something revival take on a cover of a western anniversary song done by a Japanese idol who was basically pulled from semi-retirement to do it.
And it was a fucking hit even with younger Japanese crowds at the time
It is super easy to fuck up stardom in Japan but they will gladly keep you around as you age. It's one of their most weirdly consistent traits for people, IPs, technologies, whatever. They refuse to let things die. They were non-ceremonially wearing kimono and geta into the 70s and 80s.
So I wouldn't be surprised if those two are just living comfy lives on royalties and popping up when they feel like saying "hey" these days.
>>
>>152125800
Actually I take it back. I forgot they didn't keep traditional animation methods alive for the switch to digital in the late 90s. Hideaki Anno even said it was a bitch just getting the equipment for a scene in Rebirth of Evangelion which is insane when you remember these are the people who can preserve samurai swords for over half a millennia and went out of their way to preserve all the technological antiques from the meiji era
>>
I remember thinking the show decent but never one of my favorites. I don’t remember any of my friends ever talking about it, so I never thought it was one of the most popular cartoons. Maybe that’s because me and my friends were guys and didn’t want admit to watching a girly show.

Anyone else find the single green squeeze toy alien from the first Toy Story to be an interesting character? On top of the fact that it was dark as fuck to see this innocent, naive toy who suffered delusions of grandeur much like Buzz only to have his faith and body destroyed in much more graphic detail than the space ranger did, my theory is that that there is an alternate timeline where he did, in fact, make it out of Sid's house to join Woody and Buzz.

>But his role was to be a red shirt to show off how much of a threat Scud was!
>But he would have been an awkward third wheel who would have gotten in the way of Woody and Buzz's development.
For the first argument, there is no reason he couldn't serve that role while also becoming a main character. Second, he could have easily gone in the opposite direction of Buzz where he doubles down in his belief that "the claw" is punishing or testing him which would have the effect of letting him fulfill the role his three replacements in 2 had (hell, there could have been only two of them instead of three to form the trio) AND it would have made his triumphant moment in 3 all the more powerful.
