While for Les, Lisa's Story had been optioned for a TV movie titled Lust for Lisa and he was given the opportunity to write the first draft of the script and flown out to Hollywood. However all the changes to the story took a toll on him and enacting his kill fee he managed to shut the whole thing down. On the plus side, he struck up a friendship with actor Mason Jarr who was now free to take up the lead role in the Starbuck Jones film so Les invited him to come to Westview to look up the Winkerbeans' collection so he could study for the role. But things continued their downward trajectory for Cindy who was aged out of working for ABC and instead sent to a Cleveland affiliate thus ending her career as a national newscaster.
