Y'know, just a thought: AJR? Their first original song was built around a sample from SpongeBob. Yeah, they're corny, but (and this is surprisingly controversial to say) they're talented producers who could probably do a lot with SpongeBob's tropical sound palette. They were all so quickly invented and slapped into a book to be out on time that almost none of them have a good look at all. 90% of them are just some guy in green tights. Then you get someone like this which is just some guy in normal clothes. Sinestro looked stupid until he finally got a great makeover in the mid 00s. Zod just looked like a standard random European army guy until the 80s movies.
