Does it have something to do with "sensory overload"? I actually find I tend to stim a lot more when I'm watching an emotionally stimulating scene in a cartoon and I have to pause it. So I would think cartoons would be less challenging to someone to sensory issues, but actually it can be more? But also more satisfying somehow?

Forgive the clickbaity title (and ***SPOILER ALERT***), but if you look at the movie and compare it against social trends over the last few years, Diane Foxington starts the movie as an idealized modern career woman, who has made it to the top, and feels like she has to set aside her longing for a relationship because it could hurt her career. Mr. Wolf his struggling to get any kind of career going, but he clearly loves Diane despite having basically nothing to his name. Ultimately, the movie pushes the idea that even though Mr. Wolf is at a major disadvantage compared to Diane, and the cost of being with him is that Diane has to give up her job and start over to be with Wolf, Mr. Wolf is ultimately going to make her happier than she was when she had her career.That's actually a very positive counterprogramming message to send out to all the girls who are being exposed to careerist propaganda on tiktok. Perpetually single women working pointless "tech" jobs with free buffets, booze and playrooms are constantly being fed to young girls as if it's something they can achieve if they join the rat race and deprioritize finding a husband and having children. Also, the stereotypically toxic meta of Tinder and other dating apps: "if he's less than 6 feet tall and makes less than 6 figures he ain't worth your time." they flooded the market with a lot of shows that nearly all had mid receptions no matter how critically acclaimed it is or awards it wins they just aren't making enough to warrant the price of making beyond a 2 3 seasons run.

Honestly, we need fewer shows.Fewer shows of higher quality in general, I'd rather have 20 great shows in a year than 3 great shows and 97 mediocre/bad shows.Same issue I have with anime, I'd much rather have 200 shows a year with more shows made with an actual budget/caring team as opposed to 200 shows a season with 150 of them being made as cheap throwaway shit to advertise a manga/LN.Unfortunately, I don't think we're getting that with this slump in cartoons, I think we're just getting less in general, but it still mostly sucks.

While today Simpsons could be seen as very tame, back in 1990 it was cutting edge (same with Married with Children) in terms of pushing the boundaries of acceptable television programming. The idea of an 8 year old daughter not being a Buddhist wasn't explored until much later in Season 13 in 2001 when by then many barriers of tv censorship had been stripped down thanks in part to Simpsons, B&B, South Park ect.
