I only read the first part of Geiger but something that always bothered me and indicated really shitty world building was that everyone in Vegas started playing dress up for no discernible reason despite all the adults having a living memory of the world before the bombs. Fallout puts more thought into it, all the themed gangs are several generations removed from the Great War and have no frame of reference for a pre-war society. They do no realize how silly they look because outside of a handful of ghouls and other oddities no one is really there with a memory of that stuff to tell them.

I think I figured out why this movie doesn't work for me, despite being a huge Batman fan and being into practically every iteration of the character. The movie and the characters in the film keep freaking out about how if the citizens of Gotham City found out how Falcone controls everyone and everything, it would rip the whole city apart, but we live in a world where the Federal government is openly corrupt and nobody does a goddamn thing. Also, the story and narrative treat this as some big revelation halfway through, when Falcone and other crime bosses controlling Gotham City has been a major plot point in other Batman media (comics, movies, animated series) since Batman Year One, it's practically an open secret in the city in that story, and yet The Batman treats this as some big "OH NOEZ EVERYTHING'S GONNA FALL APART", it's too embedded in the meta-narrative of Batman's World to be a surprise to an audience. Hell, it's the setup to Nolan's entire trilogy that everyone and everything in Gotham is corrupt, and that's why Batman has to exist. This also is why Gordon and Batman as a team doesn't work in The Batman either. Gordon learns that the Commissioner is corrupt ("I didn't know Savage was on the take"), but isn't that the why reason Gordon is working with Batman in the first place? Because he can't trust anyone in the GCPD? So then why is this Gordon even working with Batman? The movie wants to skip the "origin" stuff but then plays fast and loose with the details of why things are the way they are.
