It was the adversaries that made Hellboy memorable, as I felt HB was starting to get stale as a character for me. Lost interest when Mignola stepped away from doing interior art. I don't care at all about the films from either property. I think the films were wastes of time and energy for both McFarlane and Mignola. As the elder statesmen of comics have said, comics don't need films to legitimize the medium. Still wish Todd had kept drawing instead of becoming a businessman.

Best thing that could've happened to Spawn is they could've fast tracked the character to be a neutral protector of Earth (or at least part of the Earth) and he has to fend off forces of Heaven & Hell (and others) etc... they kind of did it in the comics but it was just convoluted and a lot of back and forth.
