I’ve kind of been out of the loop on Marvel movies and shows ever since Endgame, and even by then, I was kind of trailing off, I never did watch Thor 2, Antman 2, or Captain Marvel (never watched Agents of Shield or any of those shows either, but I’ve never been a fan of CW-style shows). Once something goes “you gotta watch every single movie, show, mini-series, tie-in book, and novelization that somehow adds back in some critical detail we left out of the movie but is brought up in the next one” to be able to watch this next thing” I kind of clock out. Like, maybe if I was younger, but I just don’t have the time and energy for that now. I kind of have a bad feeling that with all the confirmed HBO Max exclusives for the new DC movie stuff, if they’re not able to be enjoyed as-is, my patience with having to consumes every single bit of media as it comes out is wearing thin. But one also heard that some things can still be enjoyed purely just as movies when it comes to them, so I don’t know. I’m kind of hoping this era of “homework media” comes to a close. Like, I can understand when stuff ties into each other, or references other things, like the DCAU did it pretty well, where you can watch each show industrially and get a lot out of it, but if you watch it all you notice little things and references here and there and get more of the callbacks, but they still made it so that you could 100% just watch JL and JLU and still “get the full picture”, for the most part. Sorry for the rant. Even some things that should be for enjoyment are starting to feel like work, or rather, has since around the late 2010s.
