That's always true, but thinking about it in any in universe logical way will make you go insane. Every part of her existence serves solely to tell a gory story with jokes and show cool designs. That is it. She could've still been an angsty killer weirdo as an adult, but with a slightly more nuanced worldview. A childish worldview that understands nothing and nobody except, to a slight degree more than she used to, HERSELF. Point is, people don't like kid Gert killing adult Gert because it spits in the face of everything we know about the characters! If you take IHF seriously as a story, it laughs at you for it by killing the main character and all potential character development. If you take IHF as a funny comic with violence in new places, then it laughs at you by making it a retread of the exact same comic with the same characters you've already read. It is a step backwards, a regression in tone and storytelling. And the worst part? Gert lacks agency in all of it. I suppose you could say that the main appeal of Gert is that she is an anti-hero, or even just a villain. From that lens, maybe this turn of events makes sense, as wouldn't the most cunning, evil Gert be the one we'd want to see? If that's the case, why didn't we see evil queen Gert? Or just any Gert that doesn't have the exact same relation to the exact same world that we already got enough of in the original.

As much as I dislike the young version killing herself thing they did with Gert, and ignoring there's another timeline or parallel world she was meant to be in that has a spare Gert key still floating around in it, I'm pretty sure they are going to bring her back even if it ends up being the last issue before cancellation. You don't have characters mention resurrections on the rise to the new King before he even knows Adult Gert is present, and mention The End Cloudia is alive and normal-ish if in prison, then kill her off and be surprised if she returns. Even have her head around still, probably in that Holding Hat, so she can jump out in a panel or two and explain it later like half the sudden plot changes.
Yeah, I figure that if they really wanted to, they'll revive Adult Gert considering that it isn't the first time she's busted out of the afterlife.

The fake-outs and subversions in the first IHF stories were at least kind of a funny way to keep Gert's ending just out of reach for a few more issues. Here, it's like it's used to just bury any actual plot leads so Skottie can focus on more random humor.
