In honor of Doctor Doom currently participating in Mr. /co/, I am doing storytimes of a different Doom-focused comic for every round he's in.

This time I'm doing Marvel Super-Heroes #20, which features Doom duking it out with another enemy of Fantastic Four, the alchemist Diablo. Yesterday I assumed Astonishing Tales #8 was the first time Marvel had a story with a villain protagonist published, but I think was wrong. This one is actually THE first time Doom, or any Marvel villain, had a story all about them, and I quite like this one. It's pretty simple but effective.

I like the reuse of the “MY KNOWLEDGE... MY POWER...THEY INCREASE WITH EACH PASSING DAY” line, in his origin he says the same thing at when he’s at the university in America. Unintentional comedy that for years Doom has been compulsively muttering it to himself whenever he’s toiling over some potion.
