I think it makes perfect sense if it deals with the Five-in-One being restored. Not just that their bond is stronger when there are more of them, but a pathological fear, however subconscious, of losing their sisters again. The best way to keep them from drifting apart and turning on each other is to remain united. That, in turn, could explain why Sophie, the most heroic minded of the Five, would go along with such a shitty scheme if it was because the others voted that way.

Current X-Factor is Forge running around solving world ending threats that only his magical ball is detecting (also Man-Thing showed up and got BTFO fwiw).
