Remember, NO TALKING ABOUT AMAZON OR WISHLISTS OR ANYTHING RELATED TO RECENT DRAMA

YES, IT SUCKS. BUT TALKING WILL ONLY MAKE IT WORSE.

Anyway, this story was written by Ron Fernandez and drawn by Pat Block; Ron only did a few collaborations with Pat, then disappeared into the ether. Pat carried on with his wife Shelly for four more years, mostly doing one-page comics and covers for various Gemstone titles.

This story was made specifically for this issue, but has never been reprinted in English (although Germany has reprinted it a few times). Witch Hazel is from the Donald Duck cartoon "Trick or Treat", which got its own comic adaptation by Carl Barks. She's mostly shown up in Italian comics, trying to convince Goofy she is an actual witch.

>NO TALKING ABOUT AMAZON
Obviously, it's located right south of the equator, so not only is it on the hemisphere where there's summer and therefore not Christmassy weather, but it's also in the tropics, so it's not like there's winter there, ever.
Santa still visits all the good girls and boys there though, of course.

It helps to be known as a returning person and that said returner has also definitely gifted others and also returned not just to drop a list, but otherwise participated, including thanking for what they received, yes - exactly

There's no /shelf/ thread up right now, so I might as well ask here:
That matttt guy that talks comics on youtube dropped a video on Bone a few hours ago.
Long story short, should I drop a fat Benjamin on this?
I'll probably need to drop another 300 in the future to get the complete collection in hardcover, or I could settle for paperbacks, either by only dropping $50 apiece, or just buying them from a store (HC are supposed to be kickstarter exclusives, which implies softcovers won't be).
Also never read Bone btw, but have heard good things,

Then Anon thought of something he hadn’t before!
‘Maybe Christmas,’ he thought, ‘doesn’t come from a store.
Maybe Christmas … perhaps … means a little bit more!'

You would get better answers at a /shelf/ thread and there's no reason to not put one up yourself, the weekend is actually a good time for one. Just make sure to include the standard OP copypasta which the last OP didn't:

Happy Holidays, SantaSeid.
Something purchased for you during Mister's E birthday has been delivered, and it doesn't have that dreaded, 'left by the front porch/near door' verbiage.

Please confirm it's in your hot little hands. Your item was not wrapped, so if you'd like to be surprised, you can wait until later to open the actual box, although do make sure there is no damage as it's a physical trade, while we can still do a return/exchange request or some such.

Although they seem to have gotten better about these with TPBs.

Anon in Ohio ending with XZFL, you are receiving something "out for delivery" today that is GIFT WRAPPED set to "arrive" "between 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM" (presumably CMT? so maybe you have it), so keep an eye out, as it sounds like an Amazon delivery, not USPS, and may be a 'left at your front door' deal. I may be out and won't be able to update where it was left until later.

You can open the box and photograph the gift wrap when you have a chance, but please do confirm that you have received it.

IIRC, it was a loose adaptation of a random book about "the right guy at the wrong place at the wrong time" that got repurposed into a Die Hard sequel. And I guess Colm Meaney has to suffer even if he's not playing Chief O'Brien.

TONIGHT ON A NOT SO SPOOKY CHRISTMAS STREAM
After yesterday’s detour into a Spooktober-tinted Christmas, today, let’s reorient ourselves using a collection of several more Stocking Stuffers. These 40-60 minute stories feature a number of characters, both iconic and bizarre, in a number of wintery adventures. These include the triumphant and inspiring return of Frosty the Snowman, the always hilarious bickering of the Miser Brothers, and two classic Christmas tales retold with unlikely heroes…Beavis and Butthead.
STARTING IN 10 MINUTES

Our bans were reconfigured into warnings about the GR11 rule violation, and /r9k/ was explicitly told they can't do Amazon anymore. I think it's clear they came after us because robots pointed out we were getting away with it and they need the new crackdown to be consistent. I don't know what to make of someone up there taking the time to dig through rejected appeals on week-long bans over these wishlists and let us come back in, but I don't think it means they've decided to allow wishlists again. It's best to listen. What we can do about gifts in the future, Big Cheer at the North Pole is trying to figure out.

1997 for Sega... well, they had Sonic Jam and Sonic R on the Saturn.

As for StC, the complete lack of Sonic games to adapt was getting to be a bit of a nuisance. They'd managed to knock it out of the park with № 100 finally seeing the downfall of Robotnik's empire (for my money, StC № 99 is a masterclass in how to do cliffhangers) but with no new Sonic game to fall back on, that quickly devolved into Robotnik hiding out on a remote island to inflict some feeble "villain of the week" badniks just to look busy.

So yeah... things could've been better.

>>
>>146769664
It's a wishlisting website primarily used by creators to get gifted by their audiences. You can sign up and make wishlists of products from basically any site. You can import wishlists from other sites such as any river named storefronts and add indie products from etsy shops or small website storefronts etc. It's become a thing in the past couple of years but it's still pretty new. I've seen it used for secret santas elsewhere and it seems like a good alternative. Mostly for people who refuse to shop via the river and want to break it's stranglehold on things like wishlisting. Its just throne dot com. Might be good for next year or even this year if people are quick.
>>
>>146769742
It might be a good alternative to amazon with how their shit keeps getting worse, but it could still be interpreted as "begging" by the mods if they catch wind.
What we need is an agreed way to share wishlists that won't offend them.

Not sure if these are included in any of the streams but there are a few extra pieces at the end of this John Denver special, with some tv appearances on christmas shows like Bob Newhart and such. I'd never seen them before at least, very charming.

We've reached the Third Sunday of Advent, December 15th. Only about a week and a half remains until the Big Day.
It's also Zamenhof Day, celebrating the creator of Esperanto.
As for the reading, we're going back to John the Baptist and his work at the banks of the River Jordan. Very popular with people who not only came to him for a bit of a communal shower, but also looking for advice on how to live. He was a big proponent of Basic Human Decency - be charitable, do your job, don't attack others - and it was enough for some to consider him the Messiah. But to this he already had his favorite answer, "Just you wait for the guy after me, and his Baptism of Fire."

To the anon who sent me something before we shut that stuff down, something weird happened. You said it was expected today, right? I got text messages from (crappy online store) with generic messages saying that they were preparing to deliver my package, despite me not having ordered one. Then another text saying they had delivered it. These texts woke me up, and I was too sleepy to act immediately. When I got to the door, nothing was there. I'm worried I was porch poached.

Update: there is now a companion Fred over at ploos for chen. Whether you wanted it made or not, it now exists, deal with it. Elusive & Co. should hurry their collective asses over there and find it (OP is this image btw). The other place will be the place to poast the forbidden things. And to make sure Christmas is saved, and everyone who wishes to participate in gift giving this year will have the opportunity to do so. Remember: there is no such thing as a late Christmas gift, but there is such a thing as a whiny 'lil' bitch who chickened out, and gave up prematurely.

Merry /Co/ristmas, and don't give up!

TONIGHT ON A NOT SO SPOOKY CHRISTMAS STREAM

First, Kermit the Frog hosts the story of a particularly special Christmas Tree...next, in another special streamed to celebrate Spongebob's 25th anniversary, the giddy sponge, with the help of Patrick and Plankton, travels to the North Pole to thank Santa Claus for his hard work.
Our Main Show is yet another retelling of Dickens' Christmas Carol. This time, Albert Finney not only dons the role of Scrooge, but he also sings in it, alongside the whole of London, and even the Ghosts, in the whimiscal musical SCROOGE.
Finally, from the works of Rankin Bass comes the legendary retelling of L Frank Baum's interpretation of the origins of Santa.

Hey everyone! How has your weekend shaped up? Hopefully something cheer-y, I hosted a party with close IRL friends and we started a Ticket to Ride board game...that plays for 12 sittings, Im not used to boardgames that last longer than one day other than Pen and paper RPGs, but it's an interesting idea.

Anyways, enough blogging, have some comics!

Here's one for The House of Mystery, which...look long story short Cain is not the host for the mysteries but Elvira Mistress of the Dark. And this one is a...CHRISTMAS CAROL ADAPTATION? NOT AGAIN!!!

Cain needs to check his notes on the past
Abel needs to be more present, or less if his brother is going to kill him
Destiny needs to stop the mindless chitchat
And Elvira learnt a lesson, which one? No clue, but a lesson was learnt-ed

A Christmas Carol made Christmas as good a time for spooks as any. The Halloween/Christmas conflict is artificially stoked by the Christmas Creep cutting into Halloween display time in stores. We're not so different after all, and the last quarter of the year is the best time to be alive (or undead) thanks to the both of them.
>>
>>146780452
Oh definitely possible as this was an anthology book, but it feels more than rushed, if they wanted to make it more fun they could've use less time with the early pages,

>>146780492
I also like to see it that way, helps that my bd falls between the two seasons :)

The day kinda wasnt! But it got better!
If I may keep blogging:

now that I finished college Im earning some money giving classes to my colleagues, specially for english, you would not believe how atrocious their english was, also on the day before I agreed with a ladyfriend that I use to have a stronger crush on, to visit her on the classes she was taking and for a bd hug. Also also one of my oldest friends has her birthday the very next day than mine, she's younger than me for 26 hours and while she's a cosplayer on the side she's been waiting tables at a Board game place.

Went to give my class and it was ok but the guy could'nt pay me in that moment. Oh well
Ladyfriend never showed up and when I sent her a message she told me she was sick but didnt thought important to send me a message to cancel. Sigh...
And when I went to see my friend while busy we chatted a bit and caught up...for about 5 minutes before her simps came over with a cake for her and gifts and such Is a special kind of horrible feel being at someone else's party, when is yours I was happy for her but ughhhhhh

And that was the end of the day, days later I spent it with other friends and was really nice I got japanese stuff pic related.

December 16th is another big day for independence: Independence Day in Kazakhstan, National Day in Bahrain and Victory Day in Bangladesh. It's also the start of Las Posadas, the nine-day period of prayer and pre-celebration representing the trials and tribulations of Mary and Joseph trying to find some lodging in Bethlehem.
But for the reading we flash-forward 33 years, to the time Jesus was in Jerusalem shortly before his crucifixion. See, when he was preaching at the Temple, some big wigs approached him, asking on exactly whose authority he teaches. By asking that, however, they activated His Trap Card, because Jeezy answered their question with another question: Was the baptisms by John divine in nature or not? And lo, they knew they fucked up, because if they answered they were divine, they would get in trouble by not following him, and if they answered they weren't, they'd risk the public turning against them. So all they could do was plead the 5th and leave without getting a straight answer from Jesus either.
Also, bad news for the meta of these threads, because if this story is read specifically on the Mondays after the Third Sunday of Advent, the earliest it CAN be read would be December 12th. Oof, one day off.

Weekends are also so busy for me. Had the most beautiful evening at my church just sitting in prayer on Friday night, and Saturday I was able to go to perhaps one of the most meaningful confessions I've experienced. Pastor at this new place may be one of the most down-to-earth priests I've met. And a metalhead, funny that.
Hoping everyone is off to a good start this week.

False alarm! I think the delivery guy wanted someone to answer the door because it was Sunday and took the packages with him because I found a couple outside today.

Thanks, anon! Lovely addition to my ever growing 4k collection. Fitting choice too, just yesterday I bought Del Toro's Pinocchio from Criterion, so I guess I'm gonna be binging his stuff soon. Plus, Hellboy has become a recent favorite comic of mine, specifically the first few stories, so it's nice to have my favorite of the adaptations finally. Thanks again!

This is the one written by Patrick McHale (and co-written by someone with no other credits, and just known with two initials, J.K., that makes me think it's a younger McHale relative).

I should re-read The Goon as well. That was the first series that really got me into comics. Hopefully I'll like the darker stories more this go round. In 2009 I just hated how different it was from the funny stuff I fell in love with. That year-long arc was a miserable slog for me. They put that horrid little nameless witch-man through so much suffering I ended up rooting for him.

It's a solution. I personally like it. It addresses all of my concerns for a solution. But it needs to be approved by the long-time event organizers to be made our official new system, and the big chief has distinctly not been a part of this year's festivities, and may well still not even know the whole tradition's been abruptly overturned and jeopardized. It's out of our hands right now.

I loved it from start to finish. The way the story, town and characters evolved over time just hooked me. The art work is just beautiful especially the way Powell is able to convey emotion in the faces of each character, and set the tone of each location in the book is great. I haven't read any of the new stuff since Powell started up the series again, but his initial series to me is just chef's kiss. It also holds a special place in my heart because it was one of the first non big two books /co/ recommended to me when I was in high-school many years ago getting into comics.

I still need to donate to the local children's hospital; they normally do a Christmas appeal for something or other and the hospital sometimes asks me to consider them in my will (lol) but if I can make some kid's Christmas a bit less shitty, then that's good by me.

Good suggestions:
American Rapture's Delight (Or any of the show's xmas episodes really)
Santa Claus is comin to Town
Holly Jolly Jimmy

Ironic/terrible/fun to watch suggestion: Rudolph and the Island of Misfit Toys (awfully animated cgi special with some good characters)

How do you avoid Christmas Day turning into a depressive liminal void between the morning gifts and the evening dinner? I've always had this problem because of how we structure things. I guess the key is to have something lined up to do during the day, but what's even open on Christmas?
>>
>>146790613
Part of what helps is that I always have a quiet Christmas between me and only a couple family members. Never been a big family reunion Christmas sorta guy. So our dinner usually ends up finished early. Plus I have Christmas presents to mess around with, people to chat with online, or worst case scenario, leftover Christmas specials to binge or stream.

>>
>>146790613
Watching something to take your mind off things might help. Doesn't even have to be Christmas stuff, just something that you find chill/interesting/funny/whatever you need.
>>
>>146790643
That would help. I think part of the problem is most of my gifts tend to be longer form media that I can't really plunge into until the next day, since there's nowhere to go after that. TV series box sets or novels.
>>146790675
Indeed.
>>
>>146790675
I caught a Mythbusters marathon after Christmas one year that really helped. Might have even been over several days.

1998 was an interesting year for Sega. They'd bought the rights to Puyo Puyo from Compile, ensuring they had exclusive rights to the franchise... oh yeah, and they released the Dreamcast in Japan, about a year before the West would get it so that Sega wouldn't repeat the mistakes made with the Saturn's launch. Of course, Sega being Sega they kinda fucked up anyway because they couldn't get enough of the damn things made on time.

As the official publication for Sega, the people in charge of StC were fucking things up in their own way. All the non-Sonic back-up strips were chucked out (even the beloved Decap Attack) in favour of either Sonic's supporting cast, or reprints to save production costs (not the worst tactic, given that you couldn't exactly pop onto libgen or Internet Archive back then to find old scans, but it was still blatantly cheap.) All the fun features of classic StC were also shelved; Review Zone, News Zone, even Control Zone and Speedlines were no more as Megadroid had been forced into early retirement.

I've celebrated the eve as far as meals, and the day was often for coffee and a visit with a close friend(s) and often a movie, last year neither of those happened partially because of a move to a different part of my metro area last summer (2023)

Some Starbucks are partially open that day and if we are seeing a movie, we try to find one nearby. Plenty of bars are open and some often serve food, but you have to be somewhat desperate to eat food that's left on warmers, usually on a pool table or some such, at most bars that don't normally have a kitchen set up. A proper pub with proper pub food is best if that's your sole or best option.

Also, Chinese food, just like KFC in Japan. I was stuck in a hell hole in the deep south for two+ years, and one year, I flew back to California to spend the holidays with my old friends, but the following year, I spent Thanksgiving there, so two trips in one winter wasn't an option, so one friend and I (he was disowned by his family) spent the evening together but we got the Chinese food to go. It was actually nice, we went out to a bar afterwards and both hooked up. Loads of lonely folks.

you can send new lists offsite to an email who updates a pastebin
And step two anyone gifting can let the thread know that they have gifted someone from the pastebin, not posting their amazon list.
Both those two things are fine according to the /r9k/ modpost which is all we fucking have to go on.
But the emailing of new lists to be added is what is being considered "begging" this year so yes, that part is what is sent to an email. I'm willing to run it or anyone else can. It's just redtape to avoid posting new amazon lists on 4chan.
Posting you've gifted someone to 4chan directly is fine as long as you're identifying them not by an amazon link.

I just spoke to a mod on IRC who unbanned me (thank you mod) and said that as long as we follow the /r9k/ modpost we're okay. Just don't post amazon links directly on the site. Emailing them to a set email is fine. Saying you've gifted someone as long as you identify them by initials like /a/ does or anything that isn't the amazon link is fine.
Posting pictures of the gifts when you've gotten them is fine. Posting that email to send to on 4chan is fine.
So we email the lists to the email, with maybe a nickname or Initials to identify by. Then we're golden.
If someone is willing to update the pastebin and be in charge of the email, great. I also volunteer just in case nobody is better suited.
>>
>>146791374
So, while it's an extra step from years past, and it has to be hosted/posted not on 4chan, we can mostly continue on like before.
Just accepting new ones is the part that's really affected.
>>
>>146790561
My friend works for an agency that helps foster kids as part of their mandate, it's especially hard on the kids who are aging out as the toys and stuff that are donated to the foster homes and families are stuff for younger kids. So we've been doing dive bar meet ups every year, where people can bring toys (or other stuff) to donate for teens (primarily sports equipment and gift cards).
>>
>>146791545
Aww that sounds terrible, being left out because most forget about the teens or prefer seeing the little ones smile.

Merry Christmas to everyone participating in this years Secret Santa! [this is an example not real email, not live don't actually attempt to email it, just setting up an example of how this can legally work]
Make sure to email cosecretsanta2024@gmail.com(this is just a test example email not real) with your participation, I hope for a lot of involvement this year. Read the pastebin which contain detailed instructions on how to participate! Don't post any Amazon lists in this thread!
You'll send them offsite to this email where it will be handled by TOP MEN
GiftING not just being giftED is also handled with nicknames so make sure to include one.
Post in the thread nicknames only.
Your generosity is appreciated.
https://pastebin.com/E6vyC5qT

Pastebin is just instructions, not containing lists, links, names, addresses.
>>
>>146791759
So there, that's an example of how it could be handled. Polish that up or tell me to do it and make a real email like the modpost requested we do. Completely kosher like we were celebrating Hanukkah instead. No links on 4chan!
>>
If Mr. E is still around I just wanted to say thank you for the gift of X-Men. Hope you're having a wonderful holiday season, pal!

>>
>>146791759
What is wrong with you? You don't need to do anything at all. Solution. Was. Found.
>>
>>146791953
It clearly wasn't. A Secret Santa not on 4chan isn't /co/'s secret santa.
Enjoy, what I posted is allowed. Yes, it's more steps than the past, but it's allowed. It's on 4chan and can be /co/'s actual secret santa. You can have another website's secret santa too if you want, but /co/ is allowed to have one.
>>
It's fun watching this pair of ungifteds butt heads over each trying to wrestle some degree of authority over this so they can ultimately be sure they're gifted before the year's out.
>>
>>146791976
>butt heads
I think you summed up the situation rather well
>>
>>146791976
I may or maynot be gifted or even have my name in the list at all.
I don't care that I'm in charge of anything, I just want /co/ able to have a Secret Santa. And we can. Just with obfuscation so that amazon links aren't being linked to 4chan.
>>
>>146791972
>A Secret Santa not on 4chan isn't /co/'s secret santa.
Okay, so you're autistic. I get it now.
>>
>>146790683
Often I get something like a new jigsaw puzzle or a Lego kit, or a video game to keep me occupied while I do my usual Youtube habits.
>>
>>146792129
This is /co/'s Secret Santa. Not the desuarchive's, not +4chans, not anywhere else.
We can have it here and talk about it here and instruct about it here. The modpost is clear.
Just don't link amazon in the thread, email codes to someone who keeps the lists.
>>

None that I've seen so far. Here in the UK they're doing Tiddler as the new Julia Donaldson (maker of Gruffalo) movie and that's become something of a tradition as I used to read her books to my kid at night and Tiddler was his favourite.
>>
>>146791759
>>146791972
Yeah I'm definitely not going to participate if it's that complicated. The moment we have to resort to e-mails is the moment all of this gets too complicated

>>146791990
I'd rather switch to a hybrid type model (plus and /co/ together) than have additional steps just for gifting people. We can reference it every now and then even if it means a person receiving a ban

>>146792992
Not to be mean but you have literally been the only person basically begging in almost every single post so far. How many times are you going to repeat the same thing over and over? Both of your lists still have items on them. Grinching means your entire list getting deleted so you're just begging at this point
You've also stated multiple times that you would gift someone, yet you have not gifted a single anon. It's rather clear the entire thing is either reciprocal in your eyes or that you will ask a hundred times to be gifted and not gift anyone until the very end
>>
>>146793970
I am going to gift. I get paid on Thursday.

I have to be careful with spending.

And yeah, guess i'm an asshole for wanting to speak out against grinching.

Cheer sure is fun.
>>
>>146793980
Yeah boss, I don't think you're using the term "grinching" in the same way everybody else does.
>>
>>146793980
I just looked up your comments in previous threads just to make sure I'm not mistaken but literally every post of yours so far has included how terrible your year was or something regarding the supposed grinching of your list. And you made sure to make the latter your main topic in EVERY single one of your posts after the first one

So tell me, how are you able to enjoy the cheer if all you talk about is how bad your year has been or how you were grinched? Sorry to react like this but if all you talk about is your list, it seems like you don't really care about the cheer aspect of the threads
>>
>>146793970
In fact I just gifted just now.

Enjoy your gift number 63. You got good taste.

>>146794020

Forgive an idiot for believing people wouldn't fuck with him and give false hope.

I gifted and at this point, could give a fuck about my list.

Regardless, I'm shutting the fuck up.

I gifted and feel better about doing so.

He has still not fulfilled everyone who helped clear the ungifted and, if he picked someone for his explanation challenge, Riddler didn't announce it as such, but if IIRC, only about 5 people or so answered and with that thread being pruned and the next one, even though he is an old timer and should know, we have no way of becoming aware unless Mister E pops in and says something, which so far he hasn't.

I got something small - my first actual owned LEGO anything, other than a mini-fig someone once gave me, which is apparently a complete 'set' - just a small one. December 17th is the anniversary of the first flight of the Wright Brothers, and as such there's two separate celebrations about it: Wright Brothers Day and Pan American Aviation Day.
Today's reading is... unusual. It's the very start of the Gospel of Matthew, where he lists off all the generations from Abraham himself down to Joseph, Jesus' stepdad. So not much in the way of life lessons, but fans of loredumps sure will be ecstatic.
One thing of note - and Matt makes sure to make a note of it as well - From Abe to King David (Joseph was, after all, "from the house of David"), then from David to the "transmigration of" (or "Carrying away into") Babylon, and then again from that to Christ, each took 14 generations - 14 being two times seven, and seven being symbolic of completeness. So yeah, that's a thing.

Well Sheol suggested it, >>146793423 but it reminded me that my big brother, whom I was really close to before he died in this freak accident, would also get me to do that after a big family dinner. It was a good way to get out from under that atmosphere, and just spend time together, which is probably why we got close.

However, I can see if we're talking about treadling through snow, that's one thing. I spent the holidays about 6 years in upstate California, in the redwoods, and about four of us took all the dogs (seven of them) on leashes for a walk, in a light drizzle, but it was still very cold. I had the three big dogs and my friend has two small ones, including one of those stupid purse dogs. And some of the humans couldn't deal with a little drizzle because it was about 35/40 degrees out during the day and some of the dogs couldn't either, while the rest were just splashing away.

Sending off an email with the code is not more complicated than posting it in the thread.

Also, since we're emailing off the lists now, we don't even need the complicated Code-finding part!

Just send the URL of your list to the email because it's not being posted on 4chan!

What we used to do to avoid being called beggars is now a complicated mess that can be avoided by the new required methods!

4. After you've checked your settings, ESPECIALLY THE ADDRESS, and added some items, you're ready to get your wishlist code.
a. On PC: Open your list. The address bar will look like this:
https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/###########/ref=nav_wishlist_lists_1.
Copy just the ########### and paste that into your post.
b. On the mobile app: Click the "Invite" button in the upper left. Click "Copy link".
Paste your link somewhere, it will look like this:
https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/###########/ref=wl_share.

Copy just the ########### and SEND

All of that is complicated and now it can be
"copy the URL and send it in the email with your nickname"

It's all fine. You can talk about the process here, just use nicknames instead of amazon links or codes of amazon links. All of that has to be sent through email or something else offsite. Then Pastebins can be updated by the email holder.
Talking about the process is fine, complaining is not.
