This guy is lying. You can talk about Secret Santa as much as you want on 4chan. Just don't post lists to this site.

Merry Christmas to everyone participating in this years Secret Santa! [this is an example not real email, not live don't actually attempt to email it, just setting up an example of how this can legally work]
Make sure to email cosecretsanta2024@gmail.com(this is just a test example email not real) with your participation, I hope for a lot of involvement this year. Read the pastebin which contain detailed instructions on how to participate! Don't post any Amazon lists in this thread!
You'll send them offsite to this email where it will be handled by TOP MEN
GiftING not just being giftED is also handled with nicknames so make sure to include one.
Post in the thread nicknames only.
Your generosity is appreciated.
https://pastebin.com/Qf7MnamE

Pastebin is just instructions, not containing lists, links, names, addresses.

4chan can have Secret Santa, anyone saying otherwise is trying to cancel it on 4chan.
>>
>>146839465
Fuck off with your sketchy bullshit - this is being taken care of on another site, nobody is going to give you their emails so stop begging
>>
>>146839479
It literally isn't being taken care of anywhere else.
That email isn't live or real or ever intended to be.
That is proof that Secret Santa isn't banned on 4chan.
You know all this. Your attempts to cancel 4chan's Secret Santa will not work.
>>
>>146839490
Again, you just demanding everyone's emails is sketchy af, so knock it off
>>
>>146839501
There will be Secret Santa on 4chan. Your attempts to cancel it are noticed.
>>
>>146839516
It literally says in the post that the email is fake at the moment and throwaways are allowed.

So here is the promised next story, out of three from this year's marble Holiday Special, but the last one I will story-time this holiday, featuring the Fantastic Four, the villain of the story is revealed right from the start ... :

December 21st is not only an anagram date, it's also when this year's Winter Solstice takes place (at least in the northern hemisphere). It's also an anniversary of two sets of European travelers reaching the shores of two different lands - Plymouth in Massachusetts and Sao Tome in Sao Tome and Principle.
We're still in Prequel Week, and more importantly Deja Vu Weekend, with Mary visiting Liz again. Thankfully, the Old Testament reading comes in clutch, with two possible choices - either a passage from the book of Zephaniah, prophesizing the coming of the Lord among the Nation of Israel, or the one I chose, a fragment of the Song of Songs.
It all revolves around the beloved coming to the... narrator? Speaker? Persona? Whatever, and waking her up at the start of spring. The season, of course, being an obvious metaphor for rebirth, and with the upcoming celebration of the birth of Jesus, I think we can all deduce what specifically it's supposed to represent.
But mostly I picked it because from the second verse, describing the lover looking through the window, I knew *exactly* what I would doodle.

Anyway, this story was originally published in Aku Ankka 1986-50 on the 10th of December 1986. It was written by Joel Katz (American-born but settled in Denmark back in 1968) who's did a bunch of stories back in the 80s and 90s - apparently a couple of inventory stories he did were finally published a few years ago! The artist is Donne Avenell, whose career is too much for me to summarise.

This little tale is originally from the Donald Duck newspaper comic, and saw print on the 13th December 1946. It was written by Bob Karp and drawn by Al Taliaferro.

This is another Digicomics story, and one that also first appeared in Topolino № 2561 (I posted a Mickey & Pete story in the last thread that was originally in that issue)

This is a tale of two Carlos; writer Carlo Panaro (who studied to be an accountant but ended up working Topolino in 1986) and artist Carlo Limido (who began working at Topolino in 1990). Both men still do work for the comic, but it's mostly one-off one-page gag strips these days.
>>
>>
>>
Oh, and this was part of a series that started in Topolino, where Donald and Fethry were secret agents working for Scrooge McDuck.

And no, this is nothing like the Double Duck comics.

The one thing I wanted from the new F4 was to put johnny in new york so we can get a spider-man/human torch duo at some point. Pete is all alone in new york presumably about to go through his edgelord symbiote arc. And symbiotes are weak to fire and he needs a superhero friend who gets it. Johnny will be new to the MCU 616 and need a guide and a friend there. All the pieces are just waiting to be connected.

Surprisingly little to celebrate on December 22nd now that the Solstice was yesterday - other than us finally reaching the Fourth Sunday of Advent, of course. A bunch of little holidays across the world: Math Day in India, Mother's Day in Indonesia, Teachers' Day in Cuba...
But in /co/related news, it's Tony Isabella's birthday - the guy created Misty Knight and Black Lightning and introduced A Friend in his Ghost Rider run - who was supposed to be Jesus Himself chilling with Johnny Blaze until editors vetoed it.
Speaking of Jeezy, since it's still Prequel Week, he doesn't even appear in today's reading. And Deja Vu Weekend goes ham today, literally repeating the same passage from Luke that was already used yesterday - the Visitation of Mary to Elizabeth.
The Old Testament reading comes in clutch yet again. This time from the Book of Micah, who prophesized that Bethlehem, the teeniest, tiniest and least of Judean tribes, will be the one that'll spawn the Lord Everlasting.
>>
>>146857757

>>
The XMAS MOVIETIME OF PAIN is currently playing All I Want For Christmas Is You, the heart-chilling tale of Mariah Carey's overwhelming demands to get a dog for Christmas, so I might as well post another Disney Digicomic, this time with dogs as the protagonists!
>>
This one was originally in Topolino № 2560 from the 21st December 2004 (this translation came out on 4th December 2013, and I think it might have been one of the last Disney Digicomic issues before IDW got the license)

This was written and drawn by Antonella Pandini and Danilo Barozzi, who did a bunch of stories for Topolino during the 90s and 00s.

>>

>>
>>146858444
First of all, nice trips. Secondly...

https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/from-the-horses-mouth
>>
>>
Remember, just because you want to go the extra mile for family, doesn't mean you should.

For everyone who wasn't a fan of the quality of these translations, you'll be glad to know that this is the last Digicomic story I have on the docket.
>>
>>146858444
It does look weird, yeah, partly because you omitted the word "mouth". "From the horse's mouth" is a common turn of phrase.
But I don't think I've ever heard someone say "a loot," either. "Loot" is an uncountable.
>>
>>146858464
Oh, thank fuck for that. No offence, it's great that you're doing this, but these translations kinda sucked.
>>
>>146858466
Yeah, "some big loot" would've made more sense grammatically. Disney weren't really putting their best brains on this little venture,,,
>>
>>146858464
I mean, I found it kinda charming that Disney would half-ass what was meant to be an official product that would extend their brand recognition even further
>>
>>146858457
>>146858466
I've never seen someone KNOW it from the horse's mouth, it's always been that you've HEARD it, but it's the second half of the sentence that just looks really weird to me. Like it's been translated into English from some language with a different sentence structure. "In the vault they're looking after"? Who talks like that? And then there's the "a big loot".

It immediately made me think of an alien trying to speak like an Earthling.
>>
>>146858519
Like I said, Disney weren't sending their best...
>>
If these "digicomics" weren't over a decade old, I'd swear they were translated by AI
>>
>>146857297
>>146857312
>>146857329
I'm just not thrilled with the actor for the new movie and I'm also not thrilled with Holland in a comedy. While he seems to have a good sense of humor, I'm actually a lot more confident in Chris Evans, who actually has been in a lot of comedies to be good at a buddy action type comedy, and Garfield, surprisingly for all the indie drama roles he's done, actually also has good comedy chops.

But I can see your idea work except that Johnny in the F4 looks like he's going to have a far older cast, and it also feels like they are setting the movie in the 1960s - no effing clue IF that is what they are doing, how they are going to match that up with whatever else they are doing, other than more multiversal shenanigans

>>146857274
The three people I gifted have not come back since I posted them and all three gifts were TPBs, not hard covers, do I doubt it would be 'larger' than a Discworld HC, so who knows. And two of those people are name friends, so likely not you and the other one is in Ohiio and should have gotten the gift last week, so likely no you.

>>146858612
we had half assed machine translation over a decade ago, they just weren't as fast as AI would do it today and you had to do a line for line translation, that's how some crappy pre-2011 belgian-franco comics that were scanned and translated - and that particular scanner is still viewed in horror today in that community. Especially since some of those scans have not been re-done since then.
>>
>>146858762
It's kinda nuts how the eurocomics scanlation scene is still leagues behind the weebs. Hell, I was doing it a decade ago (haven't done it since 2020... '21?) and it doesn't seem like things have moved on that much.
>>
>>146858831
I think Europe just isn't exotic enough to attract the kind of people who'd take pride in being the one who translated something from Japanese.

Manga attracts a different kind of fanaticism for one thing - eurocomics does have his hard core, die hard fans and people like me who are strong admirers but not that key, but with the weebs, I personally think it's that there are more of them, that it was a forbidden thing for so long (remember, we had official English language, even if some were UK/British English for decades and that wasn't common for manga).

This story comes from Christmas in Disneyland, a one-shot published by Dell Comics on 17th October 1957. The overall premise is that Santa is taking Taffy and Timmie (the two kids) through Disneyland and telling them stories of how various Disney characters had fun Christmassy adventures - basically, it's another Christmas Parade but with extra advertising. The writer of the framing device is lost to time, but it was drawn by Tony Strobl.

https://www.lambiek.net/artists/s/strobl_tony.htm
>>
The story itself is also missing a writers credit, but it was drawn by Al Hubbard who co-created Fethry Duck, among other characters.

TONIGHT ON A NOT SO SPOOKY CHRISTMAS STREAM
The final Sunday of the Christmas season, and we start with a brand new special, in which a little Owl finds itself perched in the famous Rockefeller Center tree, and must find his way home. Next, to conclude our celebration of Spongebob’s 25th anniversary, we screen the newest Spongebob Christmas special, in which our favorite Sponge must help Sandy and her family save Christmas.
Our first main show is yet another retelling of Dickens’ greatest Christmas story, with a prehistoric twist. This time, Fred Flintstone plays the role of Scrooge in a play of a Christmas Carol, and the fame has gone to his head. Now, as he must act out Scrooge’s redemption, he must also learn from his own mistakes in A FLINSTONES CHRISTMAS CAROL.
Next, to make up for taking yesterday off, I’ve added a BONUS MOVIE to the schedule! Celebrate the 20th anniversary of a bizarre but whimsical journey to the North Pole, and learn to believe aboard the POLAR EXPRESS!
In our late show, the Smiling Friends return when Charlie ends up spending Christmas Eve having to save both himself, and the firey pits of Hell. We finish with one of the sweetest misadventures of Ataru Moroboshi and his unwanted alien girlfriend Lum, as she watches her “Darling” fall, hook, line and sinker, for a cruel Christmas prank.

Got another Disney story from February 1991. The cover was done by Rick Hoover, who got his start at Disney as an assistant art director in the early 80s; he then became the artist for the Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Gummi Bears comic strips in the mid- to late-80s, then became the go-to cover artist for various Gladstone comic books.
>>
This story was first published in Kalle Anka & C:o nr 50 1978 (13th December 1978 ,to be precise) but the story was written by an American (Jim Kenner) and drawn by a Chilean (Victor José Arriagada Ríos... or "Vicar" as he was more commonly known)

https://bearalley.blogspot.com/2014/02/jim-kenner.html
https://www.lambiek.net/artists/v/vicar.htm

It's worth noting that this issue of Walt Disney Comics & Stories listed both writer and artist for this story as "unknown" - THAT'S how shit Disney were at crediting comic book creators back then, and what an invaluable resource I.N.D.U.C.K.S. is today.

We've finally reached it: December 23rd, Christmas Eve's Eve. As the last day not directly associated with Christmas, it's rife with "secular" celebrations, like the Festivus joke in Seinfeld some people decided to take on face value, "Tibb's Eve" in Newfoundland and Labrador, or apparently and according to wikipedia "HumanLight" for Humanists, which honestly deserves little more than a smirk and a dismissive wank-off motion.
As for the reading, we're obviously still in prequel zone, considering the date. More specifically, in the eighth day after the birth of John the Baptist, when he's bound to be circumcised and named. Liz and Zack's friends and relations all pushed for the kid to be named after his father, but Liz cut those suggestions down, saying he has to be named "John". So they all turned to Zack, assuming the woman must obviously be crazy. But Zack grabbed a tablet and wrote down "John" as well, and that finally, after at least nine months, got him unmuted.
Which really speaks to me personally, finally getting a new part of the Gospels after having to go through repeats three days in a row.

This. Regardless of RLM's quality, only mouthbreathers flocked to that phrase so they could pretend they were above it all, when in reality they jizz themselves over any product that feeds into their cunty culture wars bullshit. Acting like the worst part of their legacy (such as it is) is their best is beyond retarded.

The big day is approaching fast, and I've got another Christmas Carol comic!
>>
Rob Williams got his start writing the indie comic Cla$$war, before being promptly scooped up by Andy Diggle to work on 2000AD. He's no stranger to licensed comics, writing Star Wars and Indiana Jones for Dark Horse in the 00s and RoboCop (and later RoboCop/Terminator: Kill Human) for Dynamite in the 2010s

As it's nearly Christmas, let's have another take on Dickens' classic tale!

We're back with old Stoney-Face, who John Wagner co-created back in the 70s.

Barry Kitson got started by drawing the illustration for a text story in a UK Superman annual that was written by a young Grant Morrison, but is probably better known for his art on L.E.G.I.O.N., Empire, JLA: Year One and the Judge Anderson spin-off.

afaik, Robin Boutell was mostly a fill-in artist/colourist for various Marvel UK books in the 80s.

Ended up being angry because my debit card's amount of contactless payments was reached, something which I never knew existed, so I ended up calling and complaining to my bank. TONIGHT ON A NOT SO SPOOKY CHRISTMAS STREAM

First, an extra-large Pre-Show, in which Jim Henson’s most beloved creations unite from across television for a chaotic, yet comfortable and wonderful family Christmas celebration. Next, an adventure with the Freelance Police, as Sam and Max spend Christmastime in a high security prison just as a breakout is starting.
Our first film is the beloved modern hallmark of 2D animation, an origin story in which a challenge to deliver mail in a near-hellishly bitter and feuding town, leads to the creation of a Christmas icon. It all starts with a postman named Jesper, and a toymaker named KLAUS.
Next, on the opposite end of the spectrum of Santa stories, a high-tech, elite squad of elves assists Santa in delivering presents worldwide every night. What seems to be a successful run is marred by a single child that has been missed by mistake, and who should step up to help other than Santa’s own son, ARTHUR CHRISTMAS.
In our late show, the Claymation of Will Vinton and his team of animators is showcased in a selection of Christmas Carols adapted into beautiful, bizarre and goofy music videos. Finally, we shed a light on another Winter holiday as Jerry Seinfeld and George Costanza are forcibly brought into a Festivus for the rest of us.

So after baking, the filling ended up bursting through the thin walls of the bread in all three cakes I made. To make matters worse, at some point the dough started seeping through the prongs of the oven rack, something I didn't know could even happen, so now they all have a huge ass-crack running strainght through the middle.
Actually went through practice runs this time and it ended up worse than ever before.
I'll post pics once it's actually time to eat them.

Frank Reilly wrote this one... which makes sense, given that he was head of Disney's comic strip department from 1946 until 1975. Mike Arens did the art

First off, congrats on the trips. Secondly, the comic strip wasn't exactly lore-heavy. It was just one panel where the Gummi Bears would deliver some of the lamest puns imaginable. There was one that I actually laughed at; I'll post it after I'm done with this.

Sonic 3 was the most fun I've had in theaters since Thor Ragnarok. I couldn't be happier as a Sonic fan who loves SA2 above all the others. Shadow was perfect. Keanu was perfect. Jim Carrey was masterful. Team Sonic was handled so well when I expected Tails and Knuckles to get absolutely nothing. The story changes from the games all made sense and felt natural for this universe. The platonic ideal of a popcorn movie. It definitely benefits from a theater experience, which is something I had really stopped caring about until this.
>>
>>
>>146874969
I've certainly enjoyed just watching the first two at home, but I might have to cave and watch this in the cinema. I've been trying to do that more - I watched a subbed My Neighbour Totoro at an independent cinema a few months ago.

I just can't take something like this serious, for my own taste but I guess it's somewhat of a childhood thing or it isn't. But I do agree that the theatrical experience, especially with a crowd of fellow fans, is still a great one and not to be missed.

Movies I never saw in theaters, for example, upon re-release (the Matrix) were totally great to see in a big screen, especially because Regal had one showing on their 4DX theater AND it was only $5 to boot!

I personally have always given any sequential art work more lee-way when the art worked really well with whatever the story was trying to get across - I mean, that's the point of combining the visual of the art with the text, IMHO.

I have had a possible premature takedown in the back of my mind but I was mainly uncertain if the next thread would even fill up in time for one more dedicated New Year's thread. This year has been a really rough one for cheer, and while certain changes have been the main thrust of it, they're not the only adversity we've been faced with. So many of our guys just didn't show this year, or only made a brief appearance before disappearing again, one with unfinished business, at that. It's an incredibly busy time of year but we've never had all of these people taken out at once like this in my memory. It's just felt like an off year from every possible direction. Whatever could go wrong for the cheer threads went wrong this year. Elusive being absent was like a terrible omen.

Despite that, despite everything, it's been a really nice time here with you all. It hasn't really felt forlorn or anything. Some people have really done their best to keep on trucking for the season and to keep our cozy Muppet family farmhouse warm. I don't know what I'd do without these threads and I'm still worried I might find out next season, even though we sort of set up a functional alternative system for the presents. I'm concerned about how having to do all that will impact our population that was already declining every year. I'm afraid we've pretty much lost those mosly absent heavy hitters for good. I just want this last bastion of the /co/ we loved to survive, but quite literally everything is stacked against it.

Now I need to get four more so I can sing 12 days of christmas properly. Thank you again! It is a great way to ring in the holidays.

An elf told me there'd be something under my tree a fair while ago now and it never arrived. I don't think I can get in touch with them to see if they would happen to have any information on the mysterious parcel to perhaps shed some light on what happened. I would hope at least they'd be able to get their Rupees back.
>>
>>146876852
I wish I could say something that'd make the bullshit seem less significant, but there's not much point lying. I'm glad to have helped out in my own little way (ngl, I was thiiiis close to pushing us into autosage by posting A Christmas For Shacktown, but I'm glad DSTRL Anon prevented me from doing that because it's allowed for more actual discussion) and I certainly echo your sentiment about how enjoyable these threads are. I think the one good thing to come out of all this is that it's reminded us all how important Cheer threads still are for us.

We may have gone for quality over quantity, but we'll manage somehow. We always do...

I'm willing to admit again for this: I use Tumblr. You know many times people keep saying it's a dying site? Yeah it may not be as big but it's nowhere near that. In my mind /co/ is the same.
Trust me, we'll be here next year.
And if not then the mods can suck a fat dick cheese laden one

I don't think they will consider it 'premature' - they pruned a thread I want to say two years ago, maybe three. I don't remember last year or the year before that clearly but the point of leaving the threads post the holiday was for people to post the late gifts.

I do agree that once the problem with the pruning/thread deletion was handled, and accounted for elsewhere, that some of the other things that make Cheer what it is have worked well and I think we can continue that next year for certain.

The streams can happen, the story-times can certainly happen, puzzles and contests - who knows. There's two people with unfinished business because Khantest also hasn't shown back up to announce who if anyone won their contest from the 11th.

My art contest, I cancelled for lack of entries, but I picked a random UNGIFTED anon, and I'm really surprised since I opened it up for people to be able to use prior art and there's always been a ton of original posted in these threads plus people who have posted in the draw threads, so yeah, it's been a weird season all around in some respects.

Oh, you are here after all, that's good. You gifted me when Mr. E was here but it never arrived. You should get a refund if you can. I really appreciate that you tried. Then you are not mine (Ohio, Ohio, Virginia, California and another in Califonia), but mention this elsewhere so it can be figured out, post your actual runic sequence and I can spend some time on it in case it was one of the usual's who grabbed you and it can be passed along to them.

I only have confirmation that two of these ended up that anon's hand, but I know the Virgina one was delivered into an actual locker, so it's safe

>>146877244
you should also mention this elsewhere if Igi does ask for a refund versus trying for a fix

And an some educational harry potter type was just something something over there.

I lost it at work on Thursday while making a gingerbread house as a "team building activity".

If by wrapped you mean sent out by Amazon, then yes.

I plan on seeing it at the end of the week. Mid credits were already spoiled for me but considering who did so, I'll let it slide.

If we don't get a chance to speak again, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours buddy.

Wynaut, expect something to arrive on Friday. Happy Holidays!

I'm going to be honest, as someone who participated once years ago. I stopped because it was just lazily buying stuff off people's Amazon wishlists and having it shipped directly from the seller. The /co/ exchange always felt soulless compared to like, /a/'s or /mlp/'s secret santas for example, which consistently have more handmade personal touches and just a greater sense of community.

I wouldn't object to doing the card exchange that I guess /a/ does? I think it would be a good way to involve more of the foreign anons. There's certainly ways to improve upon what's been done, even if it's 'tradition' to do it a certain way.

That all said, the "buying of stuff" to me, has never been the point. The hanging out, spending time with folks, the stories, the streams, etc., that's all part of it too.

I'm participating in /toy/ secret santa this year and as far as being a community thing, it sucks. I mean that board is a pile of steaming merde in a lot of ways and how lazy some folks treat things like their SS exchange, or the generals there, or the moderation and janitors there, is all a big part of it

Alrighty boys, I gotta head to bed immediately.
My big all-day Christmas Eve stream will start tomorrow at 10 am EST. Pic related is most of the schedule, more details will be announced later. Good night!

Oh don't get me wrong, the storytimes and such are great, and it's why I'm here at all despite not participating. But it is (or should be) less about the buying and more about the giving, if you catch my drift. On those other boards, gifts are sometimes handmade and usually individually wrapped, cards are personalized, plus treats and snacks (or not) depending on what the santee specifies is ok to send... I think a greater personal involvement leads to a greater sense of engagement, and ultimately keeps people coming back year after year, even when they've read all the stories and watched all the movies. Or when they just don't have the time/interest to read or watch, since a sense of belonging in a community is not always 1:1 with the desire to consume stories.
It's not my aim to break /co/'s traditions, thougheverbeit. Just pointing out what seems to work on other boards. Lord knows /co/ hasn't been love in a decade-plus, so maybe what's good for the goose isn't always good for the gander.

I can only talk for myself, but I thank the chance I have to at least share stories I love with everyone here, have a little chat about traditions or just check on the people that I know from these threads. Yeah it has sucked but I agree with Jackbros >>146877139 if things oughta change, then we can work it out.

That said I also absolutely get >>146878418
>>146878549 hand made or at least a little personal touch is a wonderful thing, yet I would've not participated in this or any exchange in here if I the person that I was matched with had to spend double the price of what they are making just to get it to Mexico or hell to get lost.
It might be less personal, but I find that every single book I've gotten since 2017 here I've cherried and it has a special place in my shelf, Even those I've gotten from puzzles.

Again, change if we must, yet the way we did was not so bad either yk?

To leave the thread on a positive note, I'd like to thank providence for having my back. A couple days ago, one of the people we're exchanging gifts with IRL, and one I'm not in touch enough to know what they've been missing in life and therefore what to gift, and who's been resistant to direct questioning, has popped in a few days back to borrow my air fryer, because apparently her oven is great with everything except potato-based stuff, and she wanted to make potato balls(?) as part of the Christmas spread.
So she's getting a nice big 2x4L one. The biggest challenge was finding one that'll fit the esthetic of her kitchen (or actually remembering what it even was in the first place).
Now the only people I need to gift is my brother (who's getting his Steam wishlist cleared out - it's only five games) and the person who's only showing up on NY, so there's still time to shop around.

>/co/ hasn't been love
Phone posting was a mistake.
Summer is no longer the only tourist season.
I mean, any of us who actually remember things like the Hope Corgi are all people who can complain, legitimately and otherwise, about /co today and /co's most recent vintages since ever before lockdown and post-lockdown has actually only been worse, including the change in ownership. Not that moot wasn't absentee more often than not in his end of life existence on the site.

That all said, as I typed, I'm all for things that could refresh the tradition. It would be easy for me to bake cookies to send to 20 anons, but it would end up being an absurd waste of cash to ship those even domestically. And something like that will still leave foreign anons SOL, as our friend here points out: >>146878591

So something like a sign up to send out holiday cards and greetings, domestic and foreign, probably could work well, and it would certainly be worth testing out. Some people, as we know from the Bone Daddy suggestion thread, will react like you did here >>146878418 and 'stop' because that's not what they want to do.

I think cheer will exist next year, but it would be helpful to have some discussions about the hows and wheres before next Black Friday. And someone needs to step up and handle the administrative chores, at least on a once a year basis. That elusive did it for many years was great and if he cannot, then I'm glad I got the the chance once to gift him with something he wanted.
