I love fanfics of shows and comics with cool, well-developed casts, written by people who know how to use those casts well.This is why ATLA has so many fanfics and a decent fraction of them are good. Ditto Teen Titans, Justice League, and more. The fun of a story, to me, is a big cast bouncing off each other, and so shows and comics that have big casts, I've found, tend to generate fun fics.
This thread is a good reminder for me to get back to the fanfic I’ve been working on for almost 8 years now, but I’ll probably just end up playing video games instead.

That leak showed us how much power the children have over the story, it's why Gabriel didn't go to jail by the end because the network thought it would hit the Brazilian audience to close to home apparently. I remember the leak also revealed that kids didn't like Chloe. There's also Zoe's initial reveal, she was first showcased to a bunch of children on a tweet before her debut where they specifically told them "she's a nice person, she's not mean". Prior to this, we also even had Amber, a joke character that was Chloe's sister and the holder of the Bee Miraculous.

I've had a lot of fun writing fanfics over the years. Don't really do it any more because I moved over to original fiction and poetry, and there's a big story I'm working on these days that takes up most of my writing time. But I got a lot of value out of my time as a fanfic writer, and I'll still be game to bang something out if the mood strikes me and I think I can spare the time.

Yknow the large majority of stuff I've written has been fanfic in nature which really makes it hard if I want people to take it seriously. But I do take it seriously, the main Halo novella I'm writing as if I'm gonna read it for my family and friends and they could get it. And in general I want to make something that stands on its own but is immersed in the universe and is benefitted by having series knowledge. Same with all the fanfics I've attempted, though mmv on success. Alot are stories I think are unfinished or poorly executed and I want to add.As far as what I look for in a fanfic it's probably stories that similarly take themselves seriously or funny parody stuff

Dialogue and tone are the most important aspects of fanfiction for me. The minimum requirement for "good writing" to me is if the dialogue at least flows well and sounds natural, a lot of fanfics have really stilted dialogue/messy grammar/lack of character voices that just immediately turns me off. I also usually find that the tone should be a middle ground between being faithful to the original and exploring darker themes the source material probably wouldn't get away with, lest it becomes really self-indulgent with the angst or drama which is a trap a lot of fanfic writers fall into. The best fics are the ones that feel like they could plausibly be part of the original. Most of my fanfic recs aren't really /co/ but I still want to share them.>Blood of the Dragon (ASOIAF)Series of charactet snippets exploring an interesting AU where the Targaryens are the dragons themselves, being able to shift between human and dragon forms. Spans Aegon's Conquest to Dance of the Dragons then the author stopped updating before it could reach beyond that point.>Broken Bow (Percy Jackson)Best "son of Artemis" stories I've read, absolutely nails the tone of the books. MC is entertaining enough but the best part is his dynamic with Artemis and all the drama/comedy that comes with it. You get reminded that the series is fifteen years old because of the constant Twilight jokes but if anything makes it feel more faithful to PJO. A Jujutsu Kaisen Garden of Sinners AU crossover where Ryogi Shiki is a member of the Gojo Clan with MEODP as her cursed technique, following her own character journey that occassionally and eventually intersects with the main storylines of JJK 0 and JJK. The OC is kind of a mary sue with her OP power but her socially awkward sociopath characterization makes her entertaining nonetheless. The writing is so good to the point that I find it unironically better than JJK because it actually explores the woldbuilding and focuses a lot on interclan politics. But what makes this fic truly god-tier is that the author has been consistently updating it weekly almost for over three years now.

I am very conflicted about The Game(WOY).No one hand, it misunderstands Dominator's character (even the pre-The Battle Royale version), there is no romantic conflict between her and Wander after they start to date, the idea that Dominator is only interested in Wander because a Magical Myst being told her is her destiny to be with him is stupid, and making Dominator's motivation for being evil Mommy issues just does not work.But I do like how Sylvia is characterized; her character arc is great, culminating with her doing the selfless thing by doing what Wander would do by sacrificing herself to let her friend live a happy life, and her final pieces of dialogue are emotive and show her growth.Hater is also well characterized, he never feels out of character; the part where the newspaper says, "Lord Hater, #1 Idiot", feels right at home with the Show's humor. I like how the story handles Demurra, her grief over losing her husband, her re-encounter with Wander, and the consequences of her actions. I do like the idea of Dominator's mom being a wandering troublemaker, and her recklessness resulting in her death, even if the execution results in Dominator's motive for evil being subconscious mommy issues.

I mostly look for slow burn smut involving stoic and contemplative male characters like Batman, Rorschach, The Punisher, or Isaac Clark. Though writers that can portray these characters with their fixations ands not come off as inhuman flanderizations are very few.For something /co/ related and not smut I recommend Batman 1939: The Dangers of being cold by Stewart M. A serious and grounded take on Batman if he had started his career in the late 1930s with minimal camp. Really just a great Batman AU story all around.

There are other small ones(60/40 chance of being true) like if the title of the story is based on a song and is formatted in a particular way. It really just depends on execution and how long can i stomach it before it takes me out of the story. I'm currently reading Resonant(Asoiaf/house of the dragon) where jon and rhaegar time traveled and became kids of rhea and daemon, and the relationship between jon, rhaegar, and daemon treads the line between fine and gayish. The quality of writing is good so the weird gay crap(i.e constant cheek kisses, OOC adult men in kid boddies bs, etc) gets a pass.
