I love pulp sci-fi. Mars Attacks, the original trading cards were extremely influential on the genre and how it is viewed today. So i'm going to story time them because I love the art style so much.
>>147129268I only knew about these because of Poker Night at the Inventory 2.
Kind of crazy to think back in the day people would buy packs of cards just to get little pits of plot on them. Though I guess that isn't so different than the kids who collect pokemon cards today.
>>147129268These are cool, thank you
I like the little promo pics on the back since that meant you still had an idea of what was next even if you didn't get that specific card in that pack. Sure, you'd want the card to see the entire image and get the flavor text on the back but you wouldn't completely lose out by not having it.

You can't have a single pulp sci Fi story without monster stealing woman
>>147130373>>147130444It's logical. In every war in history going back to ancient times cave men would kill the men and steal the women. It's why Russians today look slightly Mongolian. The “humans invading Martians” thing is clearly defending US action in foreign countries. The fear of being invaded or of Pearl Harbor happening again, but now on a larger scale. Still, I think the criticism of what is a fun gum wrapper is exaggerated. Hey guys OP here. I was hoping to quickly find a scan of Mars Attack The Revenge to storytime. Sadly the only scans easily available online are of shit quality. So I had an idea. If you go to Ebay you can find good quality scans for the people listing the cards for sale. I can individually download every image (finding both front and back) and compile them into a folder. >>147158536I was wrong it was that Rubix Raptor guy who shouts a lot, but it was funny watching their Rssistance: Fall Of Man Arma 3 op where the pilots refused to give up despite being set up to lose.
>>147147809I think they got destroyed by the dino devil
>>147158901It's what happened. He didn't like the Martians using the dinosaurs.
>>147131906EDF! EDF!
Wasn't there comic cover that has a Martian stinking finger into a guys face and another where it's just a wasteland?
>>147152482Nice collection. Thanks for sharing.
>>147129268was there any other card series like this and dinosaur attacks?
>>147162636Neither of those sold particularly well, so there aren't a ton of direct comparisons, but throughout the years there have been a number of narrative-driven nonsports trading card sets with incredible imagery. I'm collecting the 1938 Gum, Inc. Horrors of War set, about the events leading up to WWII. Here's the most famous card, #240 The Frightful Cost of WarSome other classics include 1962 Topps Civil War News and 1951 Bowman Red Menace:https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/127870/1951-Bowman-(Fight-the)-Red-Menace-(R701-12)https://www.tcdb.com/ViewSet.cfm/sid/86097/1962-Topps-Civil-War-NewsThere's a fair number of other sets listed there on TCDB. If you want to look around yourself, go here and look between approximately 1950-1990 for more. They'd be in "Fantasy" "Oddball" "Comics" or "Historical"https://www.tcdb.com/ViewAll.cfm/sp/Non-Sport?MODE=Years
>>147162857The back. I also like 1951 Bowman Jets Rockets Spacemen, kinda a Flash Gordon space opera thing.https://www.tcdb.com/Gallery.cfm/sid/104669/1951-Bowman-Jets,-Rockets,-Spacemen-(R701-13)
>>147158169Shit, man, I was in the same boat. Too much imagination spoils the fun. Such a wacky movie, though.
>>147145672you're goddamn right
Why didn't the Martians colonize the planet when humans were privative?
>>147165594not fun enough
>>147130990Unrelated insects for the fun of it.
>>147132123>>147132141>>147132162I like they didn't even need to decimate Mars since they knew it was going to blow up anyway. It has the pettyness of James Bond saving a villaim from death just to kill him himself from one of the 90s movies.
>>147135160I like the 3th game where he comes back with the aliens and destroy Silent Hill.
>>147146398Can't you just donwlad the page?
>>147165757I see them as tangentially related. Mars Attacks riffs big time on the 1950s era invasion movies, so they also added in the giant insect flicks too (which sometimes were enhanced by aliens or other crap from space).
>>147137831Bugs Attack? I'll buy those cards
>>147167444
>>147167444>>147167454I bet they were surprised when the atomic bombs fell. HFY!
>>147167589STORY TIMING THE SEQUEL CARDSThis thread hit image limit so have to make a new thread. Come on over!
>>147167444Why would female Martians have knockers if their not mammals?>>147167454What's the differences between unpublish and deleted scenes?
>>147152444What are those mini comics?
