I feel like it could really only appeal to people already into Homestuck. Someone unfamiliar with the series would be confused as fuck about what the premise is, and a pilot is meant to pitch the concept to potential investors. It's a bad pilot.

I think the show's going to be alright because the little things give it a charm, like the way the characters interact with whatever cut-in or bubble they're talking through, the little details like the holes john exited and entered the house through being shaped like his comic sprite. I really think that this should've happened like, a decade ago. Funny that Hussie is only capitalizing on the appeal for such a thing now. The visuals were my biggest pleasant suprise following the impression I'd gotten from the trailer. The art/animation team seemed to "get" Homestuck way better than the writers. Picrel was really neat and lovingly done especially for only being a split-second action, as was Rose carrying out the actions from her intro like hiding her gift for John in the cupboard and kicking her journals beneath her bed despite the script not acknowledging it, as was the hype montage at the end, as were all the background details like items and objects that become relevant further into the story, the foreshadowing screenshots on the back of the SBURB case, the MSPA imagery in Hussie's study, and Rose's drawings in her room being Hussie's actual old Wizardy Herbert artwork.If the character designs are refined a bit, especially to make them look more squat like they did in the early Acts, then I'll be pretty damn satisfied with this being the visual presentation in a full show.
