Last time we finished the second volume of Dreamwave's Transformers Generation 1, which was successful enough that rather than do another miniseries Dreamwave made it into an ongoing, which ended up not lasting very long before everything went tits up at the company. The first six issues of said ongoing form their own story and would've been collected into a TPB if things went better, so we're going to storytime them now.
This is a special preview issue released before Generation 1 #1.

Catching up on previous threads>>155638145▶Not sure with the Autobot factions how much it was the common theme of things just falling apart without Optimus and how much it was just Furman wanting to have the Wreckers and the Dinobots (and friends) as their own renegade commando units who don't play by the rules. On the Decepticon side, we get Starscream and Ratbat leading side factions just because Starscream always wanted to be a leader and because Ratbat was leader for a while in Marvel Transformers, but neither group is really different enough from the regular Deceptions, maybe we should've had a group that was all the real psychos and maniacs.
>>155663444>maybe we should've had a group that was all the real psychos and maniacsThat should've been the Insecticons.
While not recisely on-topic, I'm reading the wiki on IDW1 and for every good idea there are like 12 retarded ones.>Megatron was rabble-rousing for ONE MILLION YEARS before he killed a senator and turned to political violence
>>155646901▶Scourge starts a trend of doing nothing then getting killed in a lot of Transformers comics>>155646919▶Shockwave being the villain was supposed to be a surprise, with a rare cover variant revealing it, but it seemed like everyone had figured it out anyway.>>155647500▶I like this mini, but Skywarp is really the wrong character to be making that kind of "who cares who's in charge?" speech.>>155648928▶This moment was pretty hype at the time and is probably what led to Hasbro releasing so many white Optimus repaints as Ultra Magnus toys.>>155649164▶Optimus is having premonitions something bad is coming, and a crashed Autobot ship is found underwater off Alaska.
>>155663721There's a reason even people who like the IDW version only remember MTMTE.
>>155663617I was thinking more guys like Wildrider, Fangry, Quake, Flamefeather and most of the Terrorcons. The main Insecticons aren't usually that level of crazy.
>>155663421>The face that single handedly KILLED Dreamwave>it wasn't the not paying the talent>it wasn't the embezzling>it was all because of a 6 issue arc about Sunstorm>a story that started after Dreamwave's financial problems had already begunWeird cope, but you do you.
>>155659455>>155662136Sunstorm's initial popularity came from the e-hoby bio that had him as a happy-go-lucky psycho. Being one of the first "new" G1 characters since the franchise started revisiting G1, there was some interest in him that Dreamwave capitalized on.
>>155660949thanks
>>155659178Huh, all those bots seem to be clones (aka toy recolors). I recognize Delta Magnus and Soundblaster. And of course Sunstorm.
>>155663034>>155663212kek>>155663742>I like this mini, but Skywarp is really the wrong character to be making that kind of "who cares who's in charge?" speech.i actually thought it quite suited him. The unthinking thug just being happy to roll with whoever seems strongest seems to fit him>Optimus is having premonitions something bad is coming, and a crashed Autobot ship is found underwater off Alaska.thanks>>155663721>Megatron was rabble-rousing for ONE MILLION YEARS before he killed a senator and turned to political violenceOne thing I liked about Dreamwave was that it scaled back the madness of the time-scale. The bots on Cybertron being dormant for millions of years made it seem more managable.I remember even Marvel's original series had the war only go on for 1000 years or so before the ark's trip
Question, there was a TF vs GI Joe comic made around the same time as the IDW books (meaning early 2000s), it had very similar anime-like art style and the story was about a robotic (human sized) Serpentor taking over the Decepticons, defeating the autobots, takes the Matrix from Optimus, which transforms him to Serpentor Prime (growing him TF sized).Who made those? Was it DW or someone else? Will OP storytime those as well?
>>155659776Love how this series has toy accurate designs to the point that non-animated characters actually look like toys. I can spot the Axelerators there, Rapido and Windbreaker, what may be Turbofire between the legs of the trainbot, and what looks like one of the G2 Cyberjets given the distinct back and you can see his gun arm (most likely autobot Air Raid judging from the all-black back panel).
>>155659875>Electrum, which is usually a byproduct of cybertronian biomechanicsIt's also an alloy of gold and silver, and the first known coins in human history were made from it.
>>155659945did he just do a Kamehameha?
>>155669149Devil's Due
>>155659128I remember having a dumb argument with a guy on a forum about this part back when this came out.He thought because we went from Starscream and his goons getting flown off by a runaway Sky-Lynx to the aftermath of a battle with the Autobots here that they were lazy/didn't give a fuck. You know, as if they weren't going to fill in what happened in-between (or being inside a runaway bot was the most insurmountable problem).I'm still a little annoyed thinking about it.
>>155658861gay
>>155669742it's the Pulp Fiction effect, lots of turn of the century media was written in media res because everybody thought they could do it (they couldn't) and audiences loved it (they didn't)
>>155669324I really miss this era of toy/toon hybrid designs being the default G1 look. Subnbow accuracy alone is bland.
>>155671766It seemed to work fine here
>>155668954>i actually thought it quite suited him. The unthinking thug just being happy to roll with whoever seems strongest seems to fit himThere are probably a lot of Decepticons that would fit fine for, but doing it for one of the Megatron loyalists feels like a misfire.>>155669714Devil's Due published 4 volumes of GI Joe vs Transformers minis, that was the third one.
>>155673653I dunno, I never felt like Skywarp was really devoted to Megatron personally. He just seemed happy enough to follow him because he was in charge most of the time and powerful
>>155669149This really happened?
>>155674198In the first episode of the cartoon, he's the first Transformer to get revived on Earth. He could've done anything he wanted, and his first thought is to repair his leader Megatron. And then there's this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDukgCGZhfM
>>155674338I think reviving Megatron just seems the obvious thing, given that he was the leader. I see your point a bit more with that clip, though
>>155663721How long is that for Cybertronian standards?
