Last time we read the beginning of Dreamwave's Generation 1 ongoing, but it was a series not meant to last. It was canceled after just 10 issues, and the company went down with it. Today we'll be finishing the last few stories from Dreamwave's G1 continuity, starting with the 20th Anniversary Summer Special.Transform and roll out.Previous storytimes:>>155585602>>155611457>>155633867>>155646854>>155658861
The Summer Special was an anthology containing multiple short stories set in different continuities (meant to be introductions to spinoffs that never happened) but I'm only posting the first, which explicitly takes place after issue 4 of the ongoing.
Now we go back to the past with Micromasters, a four issue spinoff set on Cybertron before the main story, starring, you guessed it, the Micromasters.
>>155686414IIRC wasn't this special tied to a poll to pick the next DW Transformer spin off and fans pissed off DW by picking Beast Wars over RID?
>>155686766Yes, but as I said it all amounted to nothing anyway.
>>155686464his mane's a bit weird-looking
>>155686414Man the art and coloring for this is pretty. I like the shininess.
Now we return to Generation 1, to finish the series.
>>155688579nice to see the twins working together
>>155689172it's referring to a mini/special that never came out, right?
>>155689425Yes.
>>155689818yay, it's on!
Next: Nothing. And that's it for Dreamwave. Every G1 work they published minus the supplementary material. Everything else is floating in limbo never to be released, and even the comics that were released won't be reprinted because Dreamwave never paid the artists and writers for their work. How does it compare to Marvel, do you think? What did they do better or worse? What would you have liked to see more of, if things didn't go south?Next up, IDW.
Thank you OP!
>>155690082I'll admit I didn't properly re-read this as you posted it, I've mostly skimmed it and read people comments.Having said that, back when Dreamwave came out, I thought War within was OK, The first G1 mini didn't do much for me, I loved the second one, and then I was a bit underwhelmed by the ongoing though it did have its moments and I was curious about where it was going.Incidentally, the profile books, "More than Meets the Eye" were pretty good. Some of the profiles are really entertaining, or quite funny and it often did a good job of reconciling different versions of the characters(e.g Soundwave's comic and cartoon forms, Carnivac's official profile as opposed to his incarnation in the Marvel comic)

>>155686414MAMMALBOTS, ROLL OUTWait... didn't you already do this? I remember a Robot Gorilla..
>>155690082Elita-1 ruins things once again
>>155690082>And that's it for DreamwaveThanks OPI honestly find DreamWave fascinating more for what they did right rather than did wrongIn another timeline they'd be one of the most beloved success stories in comic history
>>155693286Oh yeah, they really were off to a great start, everything just blew up in their faces unexpectedly. And it's not like what came after was much better, quality wise.
While I appreciate the attempt to recreate some of the characters verbal quirks from the cartoon and some of the Transformers' terminology it does make the dialogue a bit awkward in places
>>155692014I don’t get why they make Elita-One an asshole in every continuity she’s in. It’s not going to make anyone like her.
>>155688393Don's one of the best to ever do it. Pat Lee, not so much
>>155694900She became irrelevant the second Arcee showed up and then Windblade. To compensate they make her a cunt.

In other news, Kiss Players is making a comeback.
>>155686452>The Summer Special was an anthology containing multiple short stories set in different continuities (meant to be introductions to spinoffs that never happened)There was a Transformers Energon story, as that was Dreamwave's other Transformers ongoing at the time, plus stories for RiD and Beast Wars, with a mail-in voting form for readers to decide which of the two would get a mini. In a shocking upset nobody saw coming, Beast Wars won.>>155686766>and fans pissed off DW by picking Beast Wars over RID?Nobody understood why they were even having a poll when the outcome was so obvious. If they really wanted to do an RID comic they wouldn't have made it depended on winning a poll against a more popular show.
>>155689425>>155689482Nobody knows whether this was going to be a one-shot, a mini, or just one of the stories in the "Datatracks Annual" that was planned for later in the year.>>155689205>Kickback finally depicted using his skills at manipulating others>to play Shrapnel and Bombshell off against each other>while the Insecticons were winningWhat was his endgame here?
>>155686659Big chinky robots
>>155693286This. They did more right than they did wrong, and it's a damn tragedy that they didn't get at least another year or two. The insane levels of hatred against Dreamwave are crazily overblown, and it makes sense to learn it was largely pushed by wannabe artists who didn't make the cut.
