>All this ranting about indie animation Ok, let's settle thisWhat do anons here specifically want to see from indie shows? No vague talking points like "sincerity" or "creators with life experience"I mean, what is your dream indie project that you'd like to see creators make? Or genres that you want to see more of?Im genuinely curious
>>156166393highly fuckable females
>>156166393I don't know what I want, desu
>>156166393I'd like an episodic paranormal investigation show with a strong narrative thoroughline that doesn't entirely take over.Think Stargate pre seasons 8 & 9 but for a magical detective or even early The Magicians or Charmed.
>>156166393Fart jokes
>>156166393I don't want indie animation at allI want the industry backI can't believe we memed ourselves into believing that YouTube cartoons were going to be an adequate substitute for the cartoons we grew up watchingHow the fuck did we let this happen?
>>156166437Because it's easier to pretend that indie animation is good than that big corp cartoons will ever be again. People are simply efficient with their coping. Efficient and realistic. Next question.
>>156166393>>156162329>>156157401>>156143991>>156149492>>156163875>>156163394>another thread complaining about indie animation
What's with the sudden flood of threads talking about indie hate?
>>156166393The problem with indie cartoons is that the creators treat it like vent art instead of trying to tell an actual story. If they made something, even something gay and cringe like SPOP or SU or TOH but actually told a halfway-decent story instead of shit like Wastelandia or that Bunilith "series" that are just the creator bitching about how their life sucks, Indie cartoons might be decent.Which is why even though their mere existence causes me to seethe, Viv's sloppaverse shows (which are basically the same show anyway) are objectively better than a lot of other indie projects, thought not by much.
>>156166393Sincerity just means no Buffy speak and no need to inject humor on everything.Life experience means ideas from people outside of the California bubble.I think pretty much anyone wants that. But if I have to be precise on what I want.Pulpy action fantasy, sci-fi with stakes that takes itself seriously, people that shoot and punch each other with decent choreography and characters that die when they are fucking killed and stay dead to show us shit matters in a show. Also some mother fucking dinosaurs and dragons with guns, fuck just something cool that makes you want to buy it because it looks cool as fuck not some gay soft plushie bait.
>>156166586Sounds just as bad as every other indie show
I think most people just want 80s toy cartoons back but they have trouble admitting it
>>156166428so... Martin Mistery?
>>156166393I want to shrink and climb inside the moms croc
>>156166600Define good then.Awards, artistry, story? By what measure you call something good then? You didn't ask for good, you asked for what I wanted, and what I want is mostly jhony quest with a fuckton of budget or a return to Tom & Jerry being theatrical features in quality. If you want something more on budget.Somerhing more recent could be extreme Ghostbusters or Godzilla with more budget and an orchestral score.
>>156166393I just wanna see a good cartoon that doesn't look like someone watched an Undertale playthrough and went "I have an idea..."
>>156166657The consequences of Toby Fox have been a disaster to a generation of artists creativity.
>>156166618This
>>156166393I just want action cartoons. How come every single indie is comedy and/or drama? Are zoomer and millenian writers and artists really that pathetic?
>>156166393something thats overtly made for boys/men without being poorly written edgeslop like space king
>>156167233>>156167187>>156166618>>156166500It's a problem of budget and selection bias.Indie animation doesn't have massive marketing budgets or big network streaming slots so it has to rely on marketing through pre established channels I.e the western art sphere. Those exclusively like sparkledogs and FEELINGS.An dude show would have to be made by a Machinima creator or porn artist to have a fraction of the same starting fanbase and that's simply a much smaller pool.
>>156166393>>156166486Whoever is making these types of posts is trying to steal ideas, I'm calling it >I want to make heckin based show for the anons>I will now spam the board so I can refine my scriptFuck off, you are not getting any of my ideas, retard
>>156166393If were talking about for a male demographic. Id say an actual serious attempt at a story with some action or least a show with funny and crude humor. If were talking about a serious story. It should have no modern day humor or memes. Just a straight forward attempt at making a good world and story. Basically have some sincerity. That doesnt mean it cant have some humor, it just has to be good that fits within the story. If were talking about a comedic show, it has to pull zero punches. Actually try to make funny humor at the expense of someone. Shows in the 90s and 80s were doing this all the time.My main gripe i have with modern cartoons or popular indie, is that they try to have both of these in the same shows but fall incredibly short. Shows like gamoverse, TADC and others similar have honestly feel like they should've stuck with a light hearted tone instead of trying to be serious or "deep". Its rare for shows like that to make the transition look good.
>>156166393The only cartoon on cable television still airing that I confidently like is The Patrick Star Show. I want something just as cartoony and stupid but aimed at an adult audience, kind of like what Oney and Zach used to make in the early 2010's but weirder and with a higher budget.
>>156168271>TADC and others similar have honestly feel like they should've stuck with a light hearted tone instead of trying to be serious or "deep".TADC was always at its best when it ignored the serialized stuff and focused on the humor and animation. My favourite episode of the show is the Fast Food one because they keep the drama to the lowest possible and mostly focus on the shenanigans that are going on with the customers and themselves.
>>156166393how about just create something YOU want to make and tell instead of trying to farm relevancy through algorithm trends
>>156166393Smiling Friends type episodic cartoons. Too bad most people aren't creative enough to make them.
>>156168668It also doesnt help its case that it had to cram in so much "lore" in like 9 episodes.
>>156166486All these threads feel very repetitive. It really gives the impression of a hyperautist treating the board like his personal toilet for whatever parasocial axes he has to grind.
Glitch to shut down
>>156167832>>156166486I bet, it's that guy that keeps making threads, about how he can't never make his own cartoon because he's jobless.
>>156166393Isn't that the issue. Too many creators trying to pander to what they think audiences want, with specific genres, character types, and selected social issues. Not many are trying to be unique by giving what audiences didn't know they wanted. They're too busy trying to appeal, to gain a fandom, before a show even airs.At least with industry animation before streaming, things could steadily gain interest in a natural way because they could afford the lack of attention at the start.>Or genres that you want to see more of?I want all genres. I most importantly want capable writers.
>>156166393realistic panic attacks
>>156166393Action cartoonWell written charactersEpisodic enough to expand the world and castBut serialized so theres always progression to a definitive satisfying endGreat artstyles where the girls are hot, the guys are cool, and everything rulesAlso a giant robot
i want justice league unlimited but newer characters
>>156166393More Straight White Male protagonists with brown hair
Most anons really only like three types of cartoons Whacky Looney Tunes episodic comedies action showsOr a mixThat's basically it
>>156166393More Pulp heroes and Noir detectives.
>>156166393Porn, they want porn. They could just watch anime but the designs aren't cartoony so they demand people to just make more porn.
>>156166393Politically incorrect humor that says fuck you to the overton window and would never be allowed in a corporate funded show. No safe edgy crap
>>156170607Pretty much the 90s formula. Dont know why this was abandoned.
>>156170607all those things kids ask for is possiblethe problem is untalented people with money having bad ideas
>>156170607You just describe Transformers Beast Wars
>>156171816This. I want a Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser cartoon. Zero modern tropes, dark swords and sorcery played dead straight. Musclebound warriors overcoming despicable evil with pure grit, sneaky thieves earning obscene wealth with wits and treachery, any writer suggesting that a marginalized group might be going underrepresented or that a scene would benefit from a self-depreciating quip is sacked without references.
>>156171899
>>156171915hopefully Genndy's Conan will be somewhat like this
>>156171915>swords and sorceryGod i just realized this genre is dead.
>>156166487No one really hates indie, people just hate how most popular indie feels the same and are using writing tropes that are critically panned.
>>156166393Nono sexooo
>>156166393Indie animation needs to pull more from mythology, folklore, religion, various fields of science, history, and philosophy.
>>156170189Also that. I don't have a problem with them not answering every world-building question people had because that isn't as relevant as people claim it is. I think a bigger issue is how they tried to give some depth to all the characters instead of making sure the important ones (Pomni, Jax and Caine) had a better development. The whole Jax thing felt quite undercooked considering how important it supposed to be. I simply though he was just kind of queer, but that's also because I don't believe that guys enjoying female clothing automatically means they're trans. But going back to topic, I simply want something like Uncle Grandpa or Mighty B but aimed at adults, Super jail is probably a good example.
