I can't help but notice watchfags never talk about watches for what they actually are, ie FASHION ACCESSORIES.
Every wristshot should at least include the following
>jacket
>trousers
>shoes
Why? Because you can have the best watch in the world, it won't matter if you look like a slob. On the opposite, a Swatch can really compliment an outfit if chosen carefully.

This opinion is highly controversial btw, just look at all the quotes from seething incels. Pathetic, really.

It's true, but remember why people get into watches to begin with: they either dress like fucking shit, garbage festooned with brand names, or they're too fat to wear fashionable clothes.
They hope the good watch can override the fact that they look like clowns otherwise.

It's the same reason guys who get into watches get into other accessories, like perfume or boots or jewelry but never actual clothes.

It's hard to photography you watch well when you are holding a baby, something i do for 90% of the time. Bought some natos because as you can see,his hands are always wet and he loves touching my watches and if I wear leather he can scratch it with his always growing nails, natos are also good for bathing and are usually more comfortable than rubber becase for now i didn't found a good rubber strap. Natos also get all the moist and make my wrists more dry so less chance of getting some skin rash

He also made himself look just like a pretty bad person, not a good guy at all, no wonder his wife left him and he only fucks prostitutes, after all that I received a dm from him saying "hi m8, you wanna talk?" and I just said no not at all and then he deleted he from the server, end of the story. This is /wt/ where watches are super obscure and no normie knows anything about them but you'll still get mugged if you dare step out with a TAG on your wrist, where Rolex is bought on credit by poor people which is why it's such an exclusive and rare brand that makes you stand out anyway.
If you want to know something about a watch, ask /wt/ : the opposite of what you read here will be the truth.

>I don't want to pay $2K for a Sellita either.
Several micros have Sellita movememnts in the $750-$1500 range.

That said all the charts joke about enthusiast-tier watches, but that's literally what micros are for - nobody gets any general cachet from wearing a microbrand; you just have to like the watch, period, and not expect that it's going to please anybody but yourself. If you do that, then micros are fine for you. If you are looking for some outside validation from seeing your brand name on one of /wt/'s charts or from having some random passerby say 'oh wow, what a nice watch,' then you're doing it wrong.

Honestly you're doing it wrong if you're relying on that validation from anybody regardless of what you are wearing, be it luxury or shitty mall-tier beater, but it's particularly the case with micros.

just stopping by to get some outside perspective on a Grand Seiko SBGA463. Big fan of diver functionality, big fan of Spring Drive, big fan of Lumibrite. It's a dream watch for me - anyone have any hands on experience?

Additionally interested in the Citizen Promaster Fujitsubo in grey - gorgeous watch, decent movement and titanium is a bonus for sure.

Thoughts?

Fair enough. I think just about any Seiko that costs more than $50 or so is just massive cope about not having a better watch, but I will admit that the pure and constant sweep of a spring drive seconds hand is kino. If you look at it as an enthusiast watch, and don't try to pretend it competes with true luxury watches, it's fine.

Nah, Spring Drives are the continual sweeps, automatic movement that provides power to a quartz "brake", so to speak (in addition to braking it can speed up the movement based on the IC readings). Their titanium is pretty baller from what I've seen though. You're a Rolex guy, though? Is that right? I've got such little experience with Rolex, always loved the submariner obviously (big dive watch fan here, been in pools, oceans, and water bodies my entire life). Any hot picks lately? The high accuracy thermally compensated quartz movement keeps it on the EXACT time pretty much always. plus it has a perpetual calendar that you'll never have to set again.
It also comes very nicely packaged with a mixed zaratzu polished and brushed case with a super comfy and solid bracelet. The double coated antireflective sapphire crystal is so clear you don't even realize it's there.

If you DID want to buy a Rolex clone, is there a reason to spend anymore than the cost of a Steinhart? Because even then I get the feeling it's going to be basically the same build quality as a San Martin but you get a slightly less embarrassing brand and Swiss Made on the dial.

I feel like the more you spend on not-a-Rolex the bigger the cope, like even if you're spending a couple of grand on a clone, that's still not going to be the Rolex you actually desire and it being a pricey homage/clone isn't going to change that anymore than if it was a clone that was $500.

Funny enough, Patek recently decided that no one needs to go more than 30m down and changed all their water resistances.

Now, any Patek is listed as either water resistant or not. Water resistant means each watch has been tested to 30m. That's it. Calatrava? 30m. Aquanaut? 30m.
>>
>>18186314
>jews decisions
>>
>>18186314
Well that was the point though, it's a misconception that 30m actually means 30m because despite the implication that actually just means splashproof. So effectively Patek doesn't a watch you could swim with, which is a bit lame for a sports watch like the Nautilus.
>>
How come there are so many old people in /wt/?
>>
>>18186320
The difference now is that Patek is saying thirty meters means thirty meters, having been tested to thirty meters.

I don't think it's a smart move, because the watch buying public doesn't think you can ever get a watch wet unless it has a screwdown crown and at least a hundred meters of water resistance. Actually swim? Five hundred meters to be safe.

I'll never understand why people want a 40mm Explorer. The whole point of that watch is the vintage feeling which is 90% about proportions and 10% dial. That's my point of view, but although it may surprise you, people want bigger watches, the trend of small watches is only popular among certain fans who admire vintage pieces, but it is not mainstream. Rolex has realized, I have a feeling the current 36 mm Explorer will be the last.
>>
>>18186331
wait, we need a name for your first. Explodello?
>>
>>18186343
Probably because of how expensive watches have gotten as a niche item, people want something that feels more substantial on their wrist or when they hold it in their hands and the best way to achieve that is by making it bigger.
Some of these really expensive dress watches people have posted, they look nice if a bit basic, but I can definitely imagine myself feeling a bit disappointed shelling out like $30,000 on something that is like 40g maximum and just disappears on wrist.

Vintage watches were small, because they weren't niche, weren't as expensive when new and so being small and light made sense then for people who just needed a watch but is now a convenience people who still want to wear a watch no longer desire
>>

>>
>>18186313
How are the movements?
>>
>>18186348
I agree with you.
For example, we are talking about the Explorer, it is a small watch, so it is comfortable, it makes sense that it is small because it is very simple, only three hands and the 369 dial is very legible. Then you have a very comfortable, highly legible, utilitarian and elegant watch. A perfect design. This is how watches were designed before. But with the quartz crisis everything changed, that is why the Royal Oak is so important because it marked the current trend in watchmaking. Striking design over functionality and big enough to surprise. I like the Royal Oak though.

I honestly don't care if the GS owners talk about their watches being 'true luxury watches' or whatever, but any time anyone needs to justify a watch by calling it a luxury watch, it's cringe. Patek wearers don't go around talking about how their watch is 'top tier luxury,' they just wear the watch. A higher proportion of GS wearers than most other brands (save Rolex, which also has a high proportion of annoying wearers) seeks to justify their watch purchase by some appeal to luxury, which is silly.

Jubilee or oyster bracelet for my black kamasu?
>>
>>18186444
Oyster. Jubilee bracelets look too fussy for a diver.
>>
My wrist is extremely skinny, how do I get a watch that fits it?

I'm not sure I trust someone who puts objects up his ass. No offense, but I just feel you're setting me up to give off subtle gay vibes.

I've only ever owned one swiss-branded watch before, it's a Tissot PRX and I liked it so much that I sold all of my cheap Casios, Timexes and AliExpress shitters and now I only have the PRX.

Is it just me or is that based? Because it feels kinda based.
>>
Something that's just occurred to me about tall thin square watches like the tank and reverso is thatyou can wear them relatively low down on your wrist without needing to worry about the case restricting the range of motion of your wrist.
>>
>>18186469
you sold your chink watches for another chink watch, I mean I don't mind but yeah
>>
>>18186469
If plastic movement components are based then sure I guess.
>>
>>18186469
PRX just isn't a very good watch, 40mm especially.
>>
>>18186474
Lmao like I'd pay twice the price for a "workhorse" mechanical movement, no I went for the quartz like a sensible poorfag.

>>18186473
Hence why I said Swiss-branded. You literally can't touch me, I'm just too based.

Most Rolex models are cool but a lot are shit. Explorers bigger than 36 are a sign of no taste. OPs are ok, Subs are cool, and I guess a datejust is fine. The rest of their models are shit, lets be real.

Daydates look like a watch you'd wear if you enjoy tea parties with children. Their non Sub big watches look like they were designed by autists with no concept of taste. The daytona? LARP alert. Why not just get a Tag or a speedmaster? The Air King gets mogged by a fucking Hamilton.
>>
>>18186475
Not good for wristlets apparently, boom.
>>
>>18186478
I quite agree, but I don't understand this.
>Daydates look like a watch you'd wear if you enjoy tea parties with children.
>>
>>18186479
It is just poorly desinged so it wears almost like 50mm.

?

Well it suits my wrist, so it was exquisitely designed for me

Btw,I like bb58 and not Rolex explorer. Rolex logo is shitty, even the simple and boring Tudor shield is better (tudor rose was a lot better),I orefer aluminium bezel,no crownguards...

Why be a knight when you can be a king?
>>
>>18186492
I like crowns, I don't like democracy, the rose is a socialist symbol.

Mass appeal can only mean one thing : being the lowest common denominator.
Rolex is, this fact is undeniable, the best known maison today. It is the watch every uneducated consumer aspires to. Understanding this is what begins to separate one from the plebe.
Rolex, to put it in a way one of its owners would understand, is thinking Olive Garden is fine dining. After all, it is more expensive than Burger King and you may even need to place a reservation beforehand. It is exclusivity in the hands of millions, an elusive presence you will find everywhere. It is everything but exceptionnal, special, it is the status symbol of those who need it. And a man with status does not need a symbol for he has his status and that alone speaks for itself.
This simple, logical truth will anger the simple mind. "Cope!" he will scream, believing you are jealous of him who owns one of the most common and mundane pieces one could imagine. He is to be dismissed. "You are bitter!" he will cry, unable to even imagine he may not have been correct in his decision to adhere to the glib norm of the unaware. He is to be dismissed.
Would you give the time of day to a supposed cinéphile who believes himself legitimate after watching a C. Nolan film and "getting it"? To the man who thinks himself a connaisseur of the letters after reading Grapes of Wrath (only after skipping the foreword, naturally) ?
These are lower still than the ignorant masses simply for believing themselves higher. They are to be ignored.
Rolex is Ronald McDonald in a three piece suit. He tells you that you are lucky : the McRib is available today. The common man believes he is getting an exceptional treat. The discerning man may enjoy the sandwich for what it is but will not be fooled into thinking it fine dining.

Do you know that Tudor is a royal dinasty?, way better than some invented word and a crown
>>
The streets of San Francisco’s central Tenderloin district have become so overrun with drug dealers and vagrants that the city’s mayor is proposing a curfew on businesses from midnight until the morning.

That has not deterred A. Lange & Söhne from opening a beautiful new boutique in the area, but might explain why that boutique is located on the third floor of the Sachs Building at 140 Geary Street, upstairs from a street-level Van Cleef & Arpel showroom.
>>
>>18186498
And the watch brand has nothing in common with that royal dinasty so what's you point?

I wore my GS to a work thing figuring it would fly under the radar like my imaginary friends living inside my computer said would happen, and LITERALLY the first day I did that, one of my coworkers who had never stood closer than about two arm's lengths and with whom I have never discussed watches or "effay stuff" even ONCE was like "is that a grand seiko" and (this part is going to sound like "and then everyone clapped") he actually said "zaratsu polish", a term I never thought I would hear outside of the internet

I wanted to say something about how it was just a 9F shitter but I just mumbled about how I bought it on the internet and then changed the subject but you people fucking lied to me and now I'm paranoid people are going to think I'm either wildly irresponsible with my money (which I am) or that I'm overpaid (which I am not)

tl;dr don't listen to /fa/ or /r/watches/ because nobody except me has ever gone outside
>>
>>18186502
Cope.
Nobody look at your Grand Seiko thinking "woah this must be an expensive watch!". Just ask them how much they think you paid for it, 99% of them will say around $500. Tell them you paid over $5k for it and they'll immediately call you a retard for not getting a Rolex.

See, that's the thing with Grand Seiko. People who don't know shit about watches still know the name "Seiko" because everybody has ever been to a mall looking at affordable watches. Just for that simple reason nobody will ever associate Grand Seiko with wealth, class or fine things.

MALL SHITTER
