How many microbrand watches does /wt/ own? Which ones?
>>
My chinese shitter came but I didn't wear it today, I'll wear it tomorrow and take a picture. It's pretty nice but not as nice as a Tudor, which has gold hands.

Did you know that they use gold for their hands?

Wouldn't the construction of the Nautilus as a waterproof watch make way more sense if the case was one piece and the movement just dropped in either the front or the back?
>>

Thinking about picking up the old Lorier GMT on the used market. I’d rather have one that’s a 1675 style rather than the 6542 with the acrylic bezel, but the Soprod movement is cash. 11mm overall thickness for an auto GMT is rad
>>

Most of my microbrand watches are Islanders and they're awesome.

Of course. Seriously, what kind of asshole buys a luxury watch that doesn't have precious metal hands? You'd have to have rocks in your head.

Explain it to me.
>>
REMINDER TO YOU ALL that the JLC Reverso should ONLY AND EXCLUSIVELY have this dial design. Why?

1) Because Roman numerals belong to the Cartier Tank while Arabic numerals belong to the JLC Reverso.
2) Because sticks as hour markers on the JLC Reverso FUCKING SUCK.
3) Because a black dial on a JLC Reverso OBSCURES IT on your wrist whereas a white dial MAKES IT STAND OUT.
4) Because a small and centered square minutes scale in place of a scale on the outer edge is MORE AESTHETIC and allows you to tell the exact time with more ease and accuracy.

SEE YOU NEXT TIME, dear disciples.

Unfortunately most of you pupils have yet to understand that one of the TOP5 most important things about a watch is the NAME OF THE BRAND that made it. When your wrist carries a watch whose name FUCKING SUCKS you get tired of it relatively soon and you kinda feel ashamed of mentioning it or even thinking about it.

>BEAUTIFUL NAMES:
Rolex, Jaeger Le-Coultre, Casio, Panerai, Longines, Piaget, Cartier, Breguet, Breitling, Baume & Mercier, Girard Perregaux, Vacheron Constantin, Ulysse Nardin, Boucheron, Gucci, Bulgari, Rexhep Rexhepi, Movado, Vulcain, Zenith, Zodiac, TAG Heuer

Omega, Tissot, Orient, Citizen, Grand Seiko, Homos, Glashütte, Studio Underd0g, Timex, Hamilton, Richard Mille, Hublot, IWC, Junghans, Maurice Lacroix, A. Lange & Söhne, Oris, Blancpain, Rado, Roger Dubuis, Michael Kors, Alpina, Bulova, Glycine, Aquastar, Certina

I think a reverso on a bracelet makes a little more sense because the bracelet makes it so you don't have to worry as much about it getting wet and if you're doing something somehow messy or where you might bang your watch against something you can turn it around to the steel side to protect it as is the concept.

The problem is reversos almost never have bracelets and they aren't exactly built to be beater watches. You probably wouldn't see a plumber wrenching on pipes or digging trenches with a reverso. It's silly to even think about.

Lange is similar to modern Breguet. Extremely well-finished and decorated movements with considered architecture (leagues above Patek/Vacheron/AP at comparable price points), catalogues mostly composed of classically styled precious metal dress watches, highly eccentric and innovative complications, and a complex and dubious ownership history until they were eventually acquired by a conglomerate.

The release of the Datograph was like a bomb going off in the Swiss watchmaking industry. Patek has finally released a serious competitor. Vacheron and AP still have not in my opinion.

They're the best choice but not the most exciting choice.
It's like dating a 7/10 blonde chick with nice tits who can cook and won't cheat on you. On the long run you will win, and all the guys who picked the 9/10 slutty tattooed brunette will be jealous of you once they hit 40.
>>
>>18188256
Many watches with entry-level movements come regulated out of the factory. San Martin is one example. They got NH movements and they regulate them to -+5 seconds per day with some instances of +2 per day even. Now how long this accuracy will last, I don't know.
Seiko doesn't do that, not even for their 950$ watches. If the movement says -15+25 then it will be around 2 mins per day after a month of usage.
A 4r movement Can become very decent if you regulate it, out of the box though, automatic seikos are garbage.

Why does this thread hate bittercel so much? He is unironically the best poster we have ever had. Here's my reasons:

bittercel is always brutally honest. He is like water, he will find a crack in your watch and pour in from there. He is the criticism we need. You never get that in watchuseek or reddit, you only get an echo chamber of “nice watch, wear it in good health, champ” bullshit. Not with bittercel, he does not care for your feelings which is why he will tell you the truth. Yes, your watch is too big for you, yes it’s a shitter, yes the lugs look like shit, yes the movement is crap. You, as a critically thinking individual, should embrace this.

We are all protected by anonymity here which is the point of this site. Avatarfags are pathetic going against this. Take reversocel for example; he couldn’t handle a bit of heat from bittercel and immediately fucked off to r/watches as soon as someone wasn’t sucking his cock over his shitters and pens lmfao.

Yes, bittercel may seem bitter at first, but he is the counter force to all this circle-jerking in here. He is harsh but fair. You hold the fact he never posts a watch against him, but that is merely him not taking a side. He is not a brain-dead fanboy to brands (other than Rolex, but Rolex is Rolex). This way he maintains his unbiased position.

And the best part of bittercel? He is always there for you, right here, in this thread.

I’ve realized 90% of watches are too big for me, and I have a 7” wrist. I hate how the nigger trend of everything being comically oversized has infected watches. Wearing a 40-42mm watch makes you look like a retarded nigger with gigantic rims on a piece of shit car.
36mm is the classic men’s size for a reason. Men were far more masculine in the 1930’s through the 50’s and they all wore “small” watches. Retard size watches weren’t even a thing until the Jewish media started glorifying retarded niggers.
I hate kikes, I hate niggers, I hate the antichrist and I hate oversized watches.

40mm watches are just where the market has gone, the whole point of the free market is that production is directed by demand so I'm comfortable with watches being the size they are and so is most of the market. It's not really even aboit "too big for me." They're just too big. There's literally no purpose for a simple 3 hand watch with no complications beyond maybe a date and no bezel functionality to be 40mm or more and 13mm thick. It's fucking stupidity. Modern watches can be 36mm diameter and 10 or 11mm thick all fucking day no problem. Keep them lean and mean and light and comfortable and not in the way when you're reaching in drawers and into cabinets and shit and not swinging around hitting into everything.

Quartz is the kicker, like why the fuck are you making quartz watches so big? There's no engineering excuse for it at all, it's just to make them bigger and more ostentatious for the sake of doing it.
>>
>>18188456
Not my arm, the watch. Small light watches can be worn with a more relaxed fit and still stay in place. When you wear a big watch yoi have to tighten it down more to keep it from twisting around and sliding down to your hand and giving you crown bump or restricting your wrist movement, and if they're also thick they stand prominent on top of your wrist and hit shit when you reach into narrow spaces. I'm a technician doing mechanical and computer work, I speak with experience. It's a pain in the fucking ass when you're trying to reach into a tight computer cabinet for a kvm or something and your watch is in the way.

"Whoretadello". A name that struck fear and rage in the heart of the bitter. A man who lived a life of luxury and excess, surrounded by beautiful Japanese women, sushi and nice watches. But what made him truly infamous was his ability to make the bittercel seethe, simply by existing. No one knew much about him, only that he was Greek and had an uncanny resemblance to an anime character, Yuta Okkotsu. He had left his empty life in Germany to pursue his dream of finding a society that fit his outgoing lifestyle, his calm character and his love for cars. He found this in Japan.
Every once in a while,he would grace the /wt/ thread with his presence, posting pictures of his latest expensive watch, delicious meal or delicious woman. Without fail, bittercel would come out of the woodwork within literal seconds, spewing hate and insults towards him. Jealous of his lifestyle and his endless supply of beautiful japanese women. But Whoretadello had allies too. Those who admired his carefree attitude and his impeccable taste and those of similar, if not greater statue such as Omegadrunk and The Citizen The Citizen-poster that would bless the threads with their signature posts. United, they would defend him against the bittercel, causing heated arguments but also providing deep knowledge and detailed conversations about watches.
No one knew how he managed to live such a life in Japan, but rumors started to spread that he was involved in human trafficking. Some even speculated that he was a member of the Yakuza. But no one could prove anything. As time went on, bittercels hatred towards him only grew stronger. Some even went as far as to try and dox him, but he always seemed to be one step ahead, becoming untraceable. And when he returned, it was always with a new watch and a new beautiful woman by his side.
The mystery of Whoretadello only added to his allure and his power over /wt/.

Living rent free in the heads of the Bitter, he marches on to spread his seed across Japan.

I've tried watching YouTubers explain, but they don't seem to go into any real detail (i.e. proportions, font, etc.). To my eyes, it all looks 'off', but then again I'm not a fan of large numerals on a dial. Which size Explorer do you like? Do you like the older ones or the newer ones? (I do think the old vintage ones look good).

I've tried on several Connies, and unfortunately they all look tiny on my wrist, to me and to others I trust in their judgement. So, the only option I have is the modern Globemaster, which has a perfect dial and handset but an awful case and bracelet. It's actually sad...they did a mishmash of designs in it (70s coin-edge bezel, 60s dial, Speedy handset, Planet-ocean bracelet, etc.), and it all looks awful. I don't know what they were thinking...

There isn't a 'one-watch-to-rule', if that's what you're asking. I buy to keep '4-life' (thug), so while it takes me a long time to make a decision about a watch, once I've bought it, I'm usually happy. The only ones that I don't wear are the early placeholders (i.e. Seagull 1963).

Favorites tend to change with my emotions, like everyone, but also due to function. If I'm at the beach, one of the Seamasters will be there. If I'm doing any general house maintenance, the 1861 Speedy is on my wrist. The pocket watches are for functions with the 3-piece suits, and all the others are for whenever I feel like them.

If I had to get rid of any of them, then it would not feel great, no matter which one it was. If I had to choose 1 watch forever, the Holy Grail it would be. I don't have a rotation; I wear two chronos for work (usually the 66 and the Grail), and everything else for everything else. I change watches more than once a day. That's about it really. I don't like the idea of a rotation though; it forces me to wear something I might not feel like wearing. So, I just pick whatever I feel like if there isn't a specific function I require.

What about you? Do you have a rotation you live by or follow, and do you have an absolute favorite in your collection?

I like the 36mm Explorer. I really like the reference 1016, but it is very expensive, but the other 36mm versions after the 1016 also seem great to me.
I like this watch for several reasons:
>It is a very simple watch, just three hands, no date window.
>The design of the dial with the numerals 369 makes the watch very legible and elegant due to the symmetrical design.
>Due to its simplicity and the great legibility of the dial, the watch can be small, which means that it is very comfortable, you almost don't notice it.

The Aqua Terra, because I literally bought it out of spite for Rolex and the whole waitlists thing.
I sold it at a loss like 6 months later right after I got "the call".

My christoper ward runs very well, has very nice case finishing, and is perfectly proportioned.
Hideous second hand, dial sometimes looks like a $5 watch.

We live in a world with terrors, Fren; the only way to fight back is with love. How are you today?

>>18188566
Thanks for the explanation; it's definitely helpful, and I'll try looking at the watch from that point of view (specifically with the symmetry of the numerals, which I never considered before).

>>18188576
Tudor for sure, but also Glasshute Original, the Rolex Air King and Datejust, and 'entry-level' watches from all brands.

>>18188590
Because Rolex is the most counterfeited watch in the world, so unless you have a lot of experience and/or trust the seller implicitly, it's very easy to be shafted. Normal people think the only option is to go to a Rolex 'store' and buy a watch; they think the grey market is exclusively for fakes and people trying to rip others off. I can't blame them, desu; it's all they know. One other thing though; if many Rolii trade above RRSP, then wouldn't you rather get a new one at RRSP instead of a pre-owned one higher?

>>18188583
My grandmothers never had diabetes, so I have no idea what that looks like.

>>18188586
I call it that because it's the name it has. The late great Chuck Maddox came up with that moniker, and it stuck.

>Because Rolex is the most counterfeited watch in the world,
Chrono24 is the a 99,9% trustworthy website and the watch HAS TO be original in order to be up for sale. Reviews are there to testify it, and the website itself even gives grades to the sellers. Shouldn't the watch be entirely original, you still have 14 days to return it and get refunded, while the seller gets basically banned. Do your own research before talking shit, subhuman.

It looks good on you Fren. Bear in mind, the new Speedy has a smaller length, so it might fit you well. Don't give up on it if you like the design.

>>18188604
I answered the question: "Why would anyone...". I gave the reasons why. I'm not saying that it is the correct reasoning, I'm simply explaining that the normal population has a very low trust of the grey market, especially if one is spending 10k+. There is more trust when one 'sees' the person they are buying from, in a store that looks authentic. Whenever I buy from Chrono24, I have to be just as careful and suspicious as ever. When searching for the Grail a few years back, I found many that had the wrong handset, wrong bezel, wrong combination of bracelet and endlinks, etc. They were all 'genuine', but they were not all in original condition. That's the point really. With a Rolex, it's even worse as there isn't as much research on each individual model. The normal person who wants to buy a Rolex wouldn't be inclined to research on their own, compare listings, etc....it's far easier to just go to a Rolex Boutique and beg for a watch.

>>18188606
>most iconic dress and everyday watch of all time

This one is really nice, I love the Explorer style dials. Now they have a 40mm diameter and 13mm thick version, with a date window that destroys the beauty of the dial. It's a tragedy. I understand you, as an autistic watch person I could be a customer of the old JLC.
>Basically the Volvo of the watch world.
I love the old boxy Volvos. Now Volvo is a Chinese company. We live in dark times.
>>
>>18188621
>We live in dark times.
We do live in dark times also because we refuse to support and buy from independent brands and factories that are 100% white, 100% well-meaning, 100% quality-conscious, but they don't have that "heritage" allure. It's our fault. We don't give them a chance.
