I think the Seamaster bracelets have not aged well, these have a 2000s Boomer vibe.

Thoughts on the Submariner 14060M?

I like the look of the older, aluminum bezel Subs better than the ceramic bezel/maxi dial/supercase Subs.
Are the old Subs too rattly and shitty, though?

Thoughts? The very simple and obvious truth is that if you add a little bit, just a tiny little bit, of colour to the Submariner, it improves 500%. Black and white Subs, so to speak, are just unattractive reddit crap.

No, but if I sleep with a watch own it starts to feel uncomfortable on the wrist, which is why I never do it anymore.

>>18190706
Have to agree with this.

What are we wearing today?
>>
>>18190715
The case is perfect, the proportions are perfect, but the oyster strap is clearly worse compared to the new one.
Now think about a new version of the 14060M with the current movement, the current oyster strap and ceramic bezel. It would be something incredible.

This one is great. Saw it in real life, in a boutique, and God, God it's beautiful. Much different, I must say, from a lot of other luxury crap they try to sell these days, including Tudor, Omega, Tag, Longines and VC. If you like it just go for it, you can't make a mistake. It's truly beautiful in every detail.
>>
>>18190715
The bracelet it still hollow with folded end pieces, so it will feel cheap compared to a modern watch. But it's still tough enough. Those bracelets have lasted decades. The movements are simple and incredibly robust. Rolex still services them. More importantly, they will feel much lighter and more comfortable on the wrist than the modern blocks of steel.

You can get them in two-liner (non-COSC) and four-liner (COSC). In practice both are equally accurate. One just comes with a certificate. I like the two-liner look better. It looks more like the classic 5513.

I must say, my visit to the esteemed Rolex AD was a most enlightening experience. The proprietor, a bespectacled man with a keen eye for horology, presented me with a selection of the finest timepieces from the continent. His knowledge of intricate mechanics and exquisite craftsmanship was impressive, to say the least. I must admit, I was particularly taken with the Milgauss, adorned with intricate engravings of the brand name and a delicate balance wheel that seemed to dance in the light. It's a shame I must ponder the indulgence, as it would be a most extravagant purchase, but I daresay it would be a worthwhile addition to my already considerable collection.

I'm sure the Swatch group is making a lot of money from this aberration, in addition to the ritual humiliation inflicted on Omega. It's a clear proof of how you can devalue your own brand.
>>
>>18190934
Quite a lot actually, almost all of them are phenomenally ugly, and those of them which aren't i.e. the lunar pilot is so wrong on so many levels i don't even know where to start.
>>
>>18190936
Yes. Swatch Group isn't doing so well but the Moonswatches still sell well, hence why they keep on releasing new models every few months.
>Notably, Swatch stated “the Swatch brand bucked the negative trend” thanks to the bestselling MoonSwatch, but this was not (and will not) be sufficient to help the rest of the group given the low value of Swatch watches.

The best watches are field watches and dress watches. But all larpers need their Divers and Chronographs
>>
>>18191107
I genuinely like using timing bezels when I have them and I started wearing 36-38mm dive watches to cut down on the bulk. Most smaller dive watches are still water resistant to 200m. Aside from pressure water resistance is also nice because it allows a safeguard for anything that's not supposed to be in your watch from getting in there. I'm a mechanic and sometimes I end up with working with nasty fluids and chemicals and debris and it's nice to know none of that bullshit is going to get in there and I can run the whole watch under a tap to get that shit off and towel it dry.

I actually quite like the design. A lot of micros are starting to like the same to me, especially the “vintage divers”. The TV dial with the written numbers made it stand out to me. It wears pretty nice, albeit a bit bigger than I anticipated. Not sure where I found it before ordering but the lug width is 20mm.

As I've understood, one of the big appeals of chinese divers like san martin for example is the vast variety of bezel colors and combos.
But couldn't you just buy an Invicta, Seiko or Orient and repaint the bezel at home with a hobby kit? That way you get any color you want and a watch that works way better.

They're great for all watersports, especially if you scuba or snorkel. I'll never go as deep as any of my Seamasters can achieve, but that's okay; for all intents and purposes, they are 'waterproof' watches (assuming I get them serviced regularly with gaskets replaced), and I always use them when I'm at the beach. I use the bezel timers on both of them a lot, especially when cooking. Finally, I like the bulkiness; it's the only watch where this is acceptable to my eyes.

Hello! How's the Tudor running?

>>18191151
I have more than one brand.
1) All Chinese Brands - their quality control and repair is beyond awful, so even though I have a Seagull 1963, I'll never ever buy anything else. Life is too short.

2) Bremont. I think they're company is shit, their watches overpriced, and their design line cheap and ugly.

3) Tudor - they're Rolex cope. The only watch that is great is their Advisor, and no one knows about it (which is why it's great). Everything else is unrefined compared with Rolex.

4) Oris. 'nuff said.

5) Seiko. Not Grand Seiko, just Seiko. Nothing appeals to me, and their movement performance is abysmal.

6) All Russian brands. Same reasoning as Chinese watches.

7) Frederique Constant. Same reasons as what ArchieLuxury would say.

No, but for a time I thought I was done buying them. Then it appears I was wrong, and the list was not quite complete. It's closer to being complete now...perhaps only one more to go, maybe. I find I never really end up wanting to only wear 1 watch...I do reach for just about all of them at some point in the week, so I haven't experienced what you've felt. You could sell them if you think someone else could enjoy them a lot...that's what I did with the 2531.80. If you don't have to sell, there's no reason to.

Yes, all Chinese brands. Regarding San Martin specifically: they prioritize copying popular brands and models, and I don't waste money on design fakes. I think the YouTubers are correct in their assessment of the general comparisons; I don't doubt that the outer aesthetics can be comparable for simple designs, and given enough time, the Chinese are known to create close copies. It's very easy to copy a Panerai, for instance...I think even the Indians can do that. Rolex cases and bracelets are simple, their dials are simple, etc. But why would I buy a copy instead of spending money on the genuine article that is being copied? It's a waste of money for me. If I wanted a Seamaster, Submariner, or even a PP back when they were within reason, I would have bought one. I hate the new subs (the size of the case and proportions are terrible), I don't have any co-axials yet in Omega (as I never plan to), and the PP with elephant ears is ugly in my eyes. The point is though that I'm not at the stage where fakes are required. If I want something, I buy it. If I can't afford it now, I save up a bit. It's not rocket science. Maybe when I was in high school I might have been tempted...but those were different times, and the fake watches back then were so atrociously bad that everyone knew it was fake and that was a feature, not a flaw.

Add in the fact that Chinese movements are terrible, their repair and servicing terrible, and their overall designs terrible....well, it's all terrible. It's a waste of money.

One thing though in particular that colours my perspective: I know that I'll never be happy with something that isn't genuine, therefore I know I'll never spend money on something like that. I'm not saying other people shouldn't, I'm just saying what I do.

What do you think of San Martin?

>thanks btw about the picture...it was taken a long time ago, and I still think it's my best pic of a watch.

I understanding your reasoning, and it is not wrong. I agree actually.
They are riding on the success of well established and iconic designs, basically doing none of the work that is required to have success in this business. They are stealing the work and effort of others and they are in it 110% only for the money, even more so than the others I'd argue.
That's a con to me overall, but there is a But.
A friend of mine is a huge san martin fan and for the good reasons. These reasons being that, while yes, their entire success comes from copying said iconic designs, they at least put in a massive effort to give you the best Replica on the market for that price point and far beyond that [price point]. And he argues that a 250 dollar watch shouldn't be able to compete in quality with deep 4 digit watches. Of course, why that is; it's a big conversation that boils down to chinese labour costing nothing by comparison etc. But that's not what I want to focus on right now. He also argues that a start up company "needs" to copy the established success and only after it makes money, they can go on and make some original designs (which I disagree). San martin has started doing that [original designs], with decent success I might add.
Personally, I would never buy a san martin because it does not and will never make me feel anything. Like you correctly said, I already have the original, why get a copy chinese pelagos instead?
The fashion world gets a pass when it comes to that though, because branding is everything. If a new chinese car company came out with 1 to 1 SAME design as, say, Audi, but they only changed the logo and put in a much inferior engine, then they would get laughed out of the industry.

I agree with you, but also I understand how your friend feels; he is, in a sense, getting the best look for the best price, and for a temporary watch, that's a very strong argument to be made. The difference to me is that 'performance' of the object matters too. Cheap leather jackets are shit compared to leather jackets that use great quality leather; you can feel it, and if you have a trained eye, you can see it too. I find the same with watches. I want the performance, I want the movement capability, I want the reliability and the knowledge that the movement will outlast me, and most importantly, I want the movement to be good enough to be pulled into my daily specs. Sellita movements are not as good as ETA movements in terms of longevity, mainly due to the their design flaws, and that's a shame (it's one of the reasons I don't buy Laco at the moment...once they switched over, they were lost). But again, if it's a temporary watch, then it's not bad.

There is a part of me that feels that these companies take advantage of people who want the look of great watches but who cannot purchase them just yet. So, they are sold place-holders at a price that seems reasonable but in the end is always a loss of money. The proposition is to save instead of spending on those place holders until one can get the genuine article. The challenge is being patient and waiting until the time is right. That's hard for people, and counterintuitive for most, so in the end, cheap brands win.

Then again, in the luxury world, it's perhaps somewhat opposite. Rolex wins by having people choose the following en masse: instead of spending 14k on a used modern Sub in decent condition with full box and papers, a 'loyal' customer will spend about 30k on shit watches and jewellery to be offered the privilege of buying a new Sub at retail. If you do the math, it doesn't make sense at all, but people still do it anyway.

>>18191513
Maybe today, we'll see.
>>
>>18191519
I usually find their dials quite ugly, with tacky typography, almost always having that horrible late 19th century look. But there are some that look great, like this one.
>>
>>18191523
>There is a part of me that feels that these companies take advantage of people who want the look of great watches but who cannot purchase them
Well yes, that's the fashion world for you. And now that you mentioned movements, another good thing about SM is that they regulate their movements out of the factory, most are at +-3 seconds per day actually. Now how long this accuracy will last? I don't know. But that's another small touch that not many companies do at that price point, I know from first hand experience that seiko doesn't do that even on their 900 dollar watches.

Everyone seems to have this fake artificial hype around watches that make you feel that each new watch that comes out is something that you must own.
I get it, these guys sell watches, but after a while you have to notice how they're all the same.

Okay so you regulate it and it goes down to +-6, what now?
I am not saying that an unregulated movement ootf isn't a shitty thing, but there are ways around it.

>you regulate it
Why would i do it?
Or rather why the fuck seiko isn't doing it?

>Why would i do it?
Well, because seiko isn't doing it.
>Or rather why the fuck seiko isn't doing it?

So the company says they don't give a fuck about their own watches, why would you buy them?

I asked the question of what the catch is for a sub 1000 dollar watch from a known brand that has a porcelain dial. You said, correctly, that the movements accuracy is bad, to which I replied by agreeing but I also provided you with a relatively easy solution. I am not downplaying the problem, I am just saying that there is a fix to the, seemingly, only catch that this watch has (for what it is). And this solution is free of charge.
Now, should you go out of your way to do something that the company had to do by themselves? No, and I don't support that either. I made the mistake of buying 6r35's, ended up selling them.
But if the only problem with the watch can be solved for free, then it is not a big deal.

What the anons say is true.
+- 2 minutes per day.
It's not a meme, it's the truth

I know, I had 6r35's before. Which is the same movement but with a date window. After regulating it, it was at an almost acceptable 1 minute per week.
