I assume left is the more classic field watch colour and scratches would show up less on it?

This single picture speaks such volumes of the possibilities in this hobby.
You don't need to be the richest man in the country, or have the most extensive horological knowledge to put together a perfect collection.
Take this anon for example, he got into watches few months ago and managed to acquire the perfect collection with his average Joe salary. All of his watches are in the luxury to ultra luxury category and he has all sides covered. Haute Horlogerie dress watch? Check! High accuracy quartz with best finishing on the planet? Check!. Scratch proof casual/sports watch? Also check.
I for one commend this anon for his mastery of horology.

>wearing them will turn them into shitters
wear doesn't make a shitter a shitter
being a shitty waste of money made in china crap bought due to cope and low impulse control makes it a shitter
note a $15 casio isn't a shitter since it's just a tool
some watches even look better when worn
a well worn rolex looks better than some shiney shit because it looks like the owner has actually worn it daily, not fetishized it and kept it in a locked drawer along with his cock and balls
it's been and is still being worn and is likely their only watch not one of many from their box full of shitters they never wear

buy ONE nice watch, wear it and only it when you wear a watch
just like your father, maybe not (you) because your father was likely a some faggot zoomer like you
probably your grandfather, great grandfather even
they only had one watch, they only needed one
buy the best watch you can afford and wear it
any more than on and it's bugman accumulator territory and if you don't have a lot of money you risk the drawer-o-shitters problem
the end

The glass on Casio G-Shocks is mineral glass, but somehow they manage to make it almost as robust and clear as a sapphire crystal. I've had a DW-5600 for a year now and it doesn't have a single scratch. It's incredible. Possibly the highest quality mineral glass in the world.

I'm did say Soon™, didn't I? I'm not that big a fan of the diver aesthetic, but this one caught my eye and I didn't have a high-beat in my collection so, there it is. The Legend Diver is a looker too, but this one felt more distinct. It shares a resemblance to my Seiko 5, the one that started it all. It's a "There and back again" sort of deal. And the lack of a date window (which funnily enough was present on the original) is always a plus.

What's the most obscure shitter in your collection, /wt/? I think for me, it might be this Tissot digital watch from the 1970's, which is literally just a rebranded Casiotron from the same period. I also have a hand-wound counterfeit Omega from the 1960's that's branded as an "ultra-thin" model with fake gold hallmarks on the back of it which is quite weird as well.

Does anyone know where I could get a very basic Type A-11 style watch for under about $350 USD that isn't a total piece of shit? I'll be honest and admit that I don't really know what I'm looking for (I've only owned cheap Casios before). Seems like all of the results I get are either crappy $30 chink clones or $700 "high-end" (I'm poor) reproductions.
Just having a hard time finding a middle ground, I guess. Should I give up?

I mean, they haven't used this particular configuration of the movement in anything else yet. And they showed enough restraint to not throw a date complication in just because they could (/it was there in the original). Could be interesting reissue territory. They don't have anything close this good looking in their current catalogue and people are starting to warm up to the aesthetics of the oldies.

Honestly pretty much anything from Rolex, Omega, IWC, JLC, Breitling, Heuer or Longines made in the 1960s is a 9 or 10/10.
Some brands have made nice stuff up until the 1990s, like Rolex or JLC. 1990s is amazing and still affordable. There are also some 1990s Blancpain Villeret that I like.
Modern day: Rolex still makes some cool watches but a lot of crap too. Most brands are shit but there's always something to like. I like the IWC Pilot 36mm for example.
Budget watches: Kuoe is unironically a 9/10. Baltic is alright.
>>
>>18234692
>1990s is amazing and still affordable
Meant 1990s Vacheron.
>>
>>18234692
Why do you dislike a lot of Swiss microbrands? You yourself said Baltic is alright, why anything else is always a 0/10 for you?
>>
>>18234692

NTA but assembling other people's parts and charging an extra $400 because your brand sounds a little different is some DeBeers level of fraud.
>>
>>18234703
Do you realize that back in the 1960s everyone was assembling other people's parts, especially cases, dials and individual components for the movements?

The point of that pic wasn't really patina, but the fact that the polished one was polished by an utter retard that removed all the crisp edges and still had the gall to try and net nearly 70k for a shitty mall watch kiosk tier "cut yor keys and topy your shoes too guvna" job.
>>
>>18234712
Derivative like any Soiko, Orient and the like. If there was 'Grand Soiko' printed on the dial you would give it a 0/10.
>>
>>18234708
Correct, because the gigantic machines to make the very tiny watch parts are super specialized, and the economies in switzerland are such that only those who own the machines already are profitable because they don't need $50mil in parts machines so they just resell to each other. My point is when a brand new microbrand pops up and charges more for the same watch the prior microbrand does, whats the point?
>>
I just realized I no longer have any ETA based watches in my collection.

Feels weird
>>
>>18234718
If grand soiko was on that dial there would be riots in the streets from angry grand soiko fans because the case looks like a $200 hamilton and you can tell the seconds hand is just some half ass stamped piece of shit, they probably didn't even finish the bottom surfaces of those hands let alone zaratsu

Also a question: any legit info on the patina?
>>
>>18234853
>Also a question: any legit info on the patina?
I was curious about this because I wanted to see how horrendous it becomes. No info. It's either too new a product or people with shitty ones haven't posted pics.
Best you could do is search for patina on 9ct gold, which is all this "bronze gold" of theirs is and keep in mind that the other additives in it are supposedly keeping the copper within it from patinating too soon so whatever vintage 9ct might look like would probably take a long time on this omega.

I would say: don't.
If you're going to buy that model get the steel, in black because the blue looks plasticky. If you want a gold watch buy a gold watch. If you want bronze for some reason because I dunno maybe you're retarded, buy bronze that ends up looking like shit in short order. Horrible fad I can't believe that shit lasted so many years.
This is a weird half way to nowhere.

Supposedly it gets pinkish-red, but as I said. Dunno if those omega fags aren’t lying. Seen couple of those on chrono and those still look very good unlike tudors or orises…

Tudor tried to convince all their dealers that the 925 silver black bay wouldn't tarnish either they turn black in the cases.

Skip everything below trinity+Lange.
They are all made in the dark.
Get real they are gypping the fuck out of you with a 9k case on a dive watch on a (unremarkable) leather strap for $14,000 are you kidding me?

I think gold watches only look good on Mediterranean white guys (Italians, Greeks) and Slavs, or white guys with hairy arms. If you're some blonde pasty hairless Dutch dude trying to wear a gold watch it would look kinda weird desu. Also I think gold watches look better if you have even more gold on you, like a necklace or a ring on the same hand as the watch. *Just* a gold watch being your only accessory is a weird look regardless of race.
>>
>>18235095
Agreed that it depends on skin tone, but even amongst white-whites there's the whole warm and cool tone thing. Of course if you're a pastyass Celt that goes lobster pink in the sun rather than than that germanic orangy tan then gold will suit a little less.

Quick test for whites is the undertone vein test:
The more blue/purple your underside wrist veins look the more the white metals suit you, the more green your veins look the more warmer metals look better.

That all being said you can be as pale and "cool" as a ghost with "Irish pigment" and a smaller, gold dress watch on a leather band will look fine. Where you get into trouble is with massive gold cases and huge gold bracelets.

Watches, wristwatches and fine gold wristwatches were made by and for pale white men; as long as you're not festooning yourself with massive diamond (fag) studded gold bracelets like some nigger funded by a jewcord label then you'll be fine.
Not that anyone gives a shit what watch you're wearing anyway or whether or not the undertones of your complexion suit the metal color.

Watchfags have been saying for years JLC was bang for the buck high-end horology. Muh watchmaker's watchmaker, the best movements of the industry, the best alternative to Rolex/Cartier, whatever.
Richemont just listened to them and raised their price accordingly. Also Lenny Kravitz, Nicholas Hoult and Anya Taylor Joy are now brand ambassadors for some reason.

A gold, singleface, tribute small seconds reverso coats as much as a Vacheron patrimony traditionelle.
Would you a more complicated JLC, say their MUTT perpcal or MUTTT Moon, some chrono vs something more basic from Lange, VC etc., if the prices were close? If the jlc is gold then that's another matter.
The Lange, VC etc., being way better finished?
Finer craft, vs "complexity"?

I just don't see how any gold cased JLC is worth it if you can get Trinity + Lange and Breguet levels at those prices.

I really, really liked the look of the gold tribute smallsec with the black dip though.

>>
>>18235262
>JLC went insane.
Probably Richemont went insane. They dictate how their sub-brands should position themselves in the market.

That said, though, if the market didn't accept the price, it wouldn't. Used prices on Chrono24 have kept pace, and the gray market for JLC (8-10%) is not as soft as something like Omega, for example, which is able to chop 20% off the MSRP for just about any model in the catalog.

Maybe JLC was actually under-priced.
>>
>>18235267
Careful, anon. Bittercel is quick with the report button. He doesn't appreciate racist terms that insult his Indian heritage.
>>
>>18235269
>the gray market for JLC (8-10%) is not as soft
There are hardly any of the current "standard" reversos (steel monoface with Fagliano strap) on chrono24.
Search for "reverso" and set the filter to "new/unworn". Like 5 out of the first 60 results are the standard steel monoface.

Yes the ones that are on there have relatively high pricing, but who knows how long they've been sitting there.
>>
Calatrava is not only one of the worst architects of all time (how do we say here? inventorio di fecalis) but also one of the ugliest watches ever designed. Imagine gluing 12 pathetic spikes of toothpicks onto a grey dial and calling that "a masterpiece" and charging thousands of bucks for such a boring gay wristwatch. welp, we'll see soon enough what the market thinks
https://archive.is/E4QZ2

tl;dr
>Swiss luxury watchmakers, including Girard-Perregaux and Ulysse Nardin, are seeking government financial aid to COPE with a downturn in demand, particularly from China. Sowind Group, the parent company of these brands, has placed around 15% of its workforce on furlough as it navigates declines in wholesale watch exports following a period of growth post-pandemic. The Swiss government provides up to 80% of workers' salaries under its short-time work program to prevent job losses in manufacturing. While major brands like Rolex remain resilient, the slowdown is affecting the broader industry, leading to cautious forecasts for recovery in the coming years, especially as consumers tighten their spending amid economic uncertainty.

It's apparently really hit all those unknown (to watch buyers) firms that produce all the shit that the swiss watch industry uses, like those that makes screws, movement parts, cases, bracelets and shit.
If you're fully integrated or near fully integrated you're going to be ok. If you're just part of the greater gear train that is the swiss watch, then you're looking more fucked than not.

Knowing this, would (you) blow big bucks on a GP or, lol, a UN? Good that they're now free of that holding company though and are basically independent since the quartz crisis hit.

There's that feature of Lange buckles that only TIM MOSSO From TheWatchBox.com (TM) mentions in his reviews that intrigues me. No other brand seems to have to have that useful feature.
>>
>>18235296
>Knowing this, would (you) blow big bucks on a GP or, lol, a UN?
If they made something I like? Yes.
I don't know how many times /wt/ has to go around in circles with this: watches are not investments.
>>
>>18235297
No one fucking asked you, though. No one cares about your watches. You've posted them a thousand times in every thread you haven't bene banned from. We've seen them.

Considering your levels of buyer's remorse, you barely care about your watches.
>>
>>18235292
I mean that judging the basic steel reverso gray market prices is difficult, since the sample size is so tiny.
There are only a handful of basic reversos for sale on the gray market, and we don't really know if they're actually selling at all.

I don't know dick about other JLC models or even reverso models though.

Isn't that guy in his 30s? Who acts like that? What must his wife and kids think?
>>
>>18235300
It's not so much the issue of
>muh resale value hurr imma sell everything i've ever bought because i'm so bad with money im going to have to sell my kidneys for sure some day
but rather the worry that a brand that has to go on life support now might become shittier to cut costs in the future. GP's done this before and had constant firesales in the late 90's that diluted the brand which is why they're held in such low regard today, which is a shame.
If GP+UN can't stand on their own two feet now and are re-bought by some other group or some other shitty vc holding company, then wouldn't the prospect of that put a sour taste in (your) mouth?
>>

How does it feel knowing that everyone except another fake avatard thinks you're a worthless piece of shit?

Anyway I'm off now. See you tomorrow. Full day at work.

There's the standard gray market sites, though, like Joma and PrestigeTime. They tell you their prices. That's another way to get a sense of what the market will bear.

For example, Prestige usually sells Rolex above MSRP, Cartier about 3% lower than MSRP, JLC, about 10% lower than MSRP, Omega about 20% lower, and Breitling about 25% lower.

>What must his wife and kids think?
He doesn't have any because he fuck cheap whores.
>>

Remember that you have been banned for much less, scumbag.
>>
>>18235308
I don't care about that, though, outside of the concern that GP/UN/Whoever will be able to service my watch and/or keep spare parts on hand.

There's a particularly joyless thing that /tv/ does with movies, where they don't talk about the movie itself, but just obsess about its box office returns as a way to say "See, I was right to hate this movie! It's losing money."
Talking about sales and shit is the /wt/ equivalent of that.
>>
>>18235302
>Considering your levels of buyer's remorse, you barely care about your watches.

I think this is the funniest thing he does. He's gone past caring about the watch itself and just chases the high of the next purchase. He barely lasts a few weeks before he decides his last purchase was shit.

Literally, a consooomer.
>>
>>18235298
Which feature? Can you go into detail, it sounds interesting

Again, barely any of the current standard steel monofaces.

I'm not sure where you're going with this. Any JLC will have a small sample size. They're not a massive company but they have a lot of SKUs. That's a quirk of the company.
>>
>>18235322
Thanks m8
>>
>>18235324
It's the basic steel monoface, it should be the most common reverso by far. And there are hardly any for sale on the gray market.
That means either people are holding onto them for dear life, or the actual sales numbers are abysmal.

This is the coolest watch released in years, possibly decades. If I had the money I would get this over any PP/VC/Journe/whatever.
>>
>>18235327
Feels like you have to presume an awful lot to be able to draw any conclusions. Maybe it's not, in fact, produced in the largest quantities, despite its simplicity.
>>
>>18235337
Well the most basic steel version of any non-dress watch tends to sell the best.
Rolex sub, Omega Speedmaster, Royal Oak, ...
On top of that, the original Reverso from the 30s was a basic steel monoface, so it's the heritage choice.

It's not a stretch at all to assume that the most basic steel monoface version of the Reverso would be the most popular.
>>
>>18235335
>Going beyond ‘Swiss made’ label
While the ‘Swiss made’ label only requires 60% of components to be made in Switzerland, we manufacture all our components in the cantons of Neuchâtel and Jura, supporting the local economy.
Decently based. Reminds me of moser. And they even have in-house movements. I guess it makes sense or else they ain't 100% swiss made.
How much is that watch?
>>
>>18235344
>It's not a stretch at all to assume that the most basic steel monoface version of the Reverso would be the most popular.
True but, again, the company might have reasons for not producing it in huge quantities.

Maybe they don't make enough money on each unit sold? Maybe they just want to gin up a little artificial scarcity and upsell customers on a more expensive model? Maybe they don't want to produce so many that they run out of everything else and they end up like AP, tied inextricably to a single model.

Neither of us has access to the information needed to draw any conclusions. It's all just guessing.

As a sidenote, I think this thread is one of the better ones we had in a while.
It's a perfect mixture of avatarfagging, bitterness, knowledge drop, some watch discussion, new watches from well established avatarfags, an Anon deciding to get the white dialed watch and some bad opinions left and right and an overall minimal amount of copypastas.
It feels very peaceful and complete.
If OD pops up now and replies to 2 anons to contact se off the thread, then it would be a solid 9/10.
Thank you.

Bros the buttons on the OG square are a pain in the rear, do the people who like this watch never have to time anything? Do they have very long fingernails? Do they all change the recessed button for a normal one? Are they all blinded by nostalgia?

Many such questions arise. I can say it is very unwieldy to track our poop breaks. And likely will likely be unwieldy to rest periods between sets too.

Our quest for the perfect poop timepiece continues. More news to follow.
