It's also the time and risk that goes into both developing and launching a fragrance. That said it's hard to properly evaluate a fair price for a fragrance. Maybe some of those real ouds are closest to an appropriate cost-to-price ratio given the high price of the raw material.

Fils de Dieu du Riz et des Agrumes (Formerly Filipino Houseboy) was oddly pleasant and single handedly made me realize that rice has a smell. Performance is lack luster but it’s genuinely an interesting scent worth experiencing, even if just as a sample.

Rien / Rien Intense Incense garners a lot of attention for being a powerhouse, but opinions on the scent itself vary pretty widely.

Otherwise you’ve got most of the big name scents that make them popular.

Then why do reviewers and other perfumers praise their products?
I've heard the dupe accusation about them (which works for every other brand, ie Davidoff Cool Water = Creed Green Irish tweed), fair enough.

Tobacco Vanille is a popular fragrance from Tom Ford’s Private Blend collection, known for its warm, rich, and luxurious scent. Here are some key details:

1. Scent profile:

Top notes: Tobacco leaf and spicy accords.

Heart notes: Tonka bean, tobacco blossom, vanilla, and cacao, adding a creamy sweetness.

Base notes: Dried fruits and woody accords, giving it depth and warmth.
2. Fragrance type:

It's an oriental spicy fragrance, perfect for fall and winter due to its cozy, deep character.
3. Longevity & sillage:

It’s long-lasting, with a strong sillage that can linger for 8-10 hours or more.

The scent projects well, making it a good choice for evenings or special occasions.
4. Unisex appeal:

While marketed as unisex, it leans slightly masculine due to the tobacco note, but the sweet vanilla makes it appealing to many women as well.
5. Occasions:

Ideal for cooler weather, night events, or any time you want to make a statement with a bold, sophisticated fragrance.
6. Price:

Being part of the Tom Ford Private Blend line, it’s a luxury fragrance, priced around €200-300 for a 50ml bottle, depending on the retailer.

>Pegasus and Greenley
Pegasus is largely obsolete. It smells nice, but Althair and Pegasus Exclusif both do the sweet almond thing better. But, honestly, you really don't need more than one or two PDMs even if you really like the brand. They all do the same kind of thing.

Greenly smells like shampoo. It's not a bad smell, but I cannot imagine anyone paying (even heavily discounted) PDM prices and not being disappointed with it. All of PDMs fresh fragrances are kind of boring, and Greenly is easily the most boring.

Plus, there are much better fragrances in that price range. And also better fragrances well below that price range. If you're looking for loud fragrances that last a long time and smell expensive and come in neat bottles, go with Xerjoff
>>
>>18287442
Xerjoff's whole brand philosophy seems to be about creating a really strong first impression. The packaging is fucking preposterous, even for a luxury brand, and Chris Maurice is really talented when it comes to constructing a interesting opening. There are a few Xerjoff's I've tried that get boring in the drydown, but they always open really nicely.

>What i am in for?
Perseus: Orange juice opening that dries into the body and drydown of Terre d' Hermes. It's well done, but the opening of TdH is phenomenal and TdH edt is only ~$115 whereas Marly frags are triple that.

Althair: Sweet STRONG caramel + rum opening that's going to be largely linear into the drydown. It goes from caramel into a run+white floral body into a sandalwood rum drydown. Very strong; sweet rummy into floral. Guerlain L'Homme Ideal Parfum has the exact same rum drydown at, again, a third of the price.

Oajan: A cannon of cinnamon shot directly at your face. It's so much cinnamon that I thought I was smelling blueberries. It's an interesting scent, but it's a fucking blowout if you're in a confined space or somewhere warm. WARNING. (FYI this is Ambre Narguile but made simpler and stronger. Ellena is a genius)

Herod: An excellent smooth leather fragrance, and in my personal opinion the best of the house. Olivier Pescheux's work (RIP) and I think better than Divine Vanille that he did for Essential Perfumes.

Layton: Apple + Fresh (mint maybe?) opening. Fresh and warm. The ?mint? dies down within 30mins and you end up with a spiced Apple body with lavender and wood backing. Some say apple pie but I wouldn't go that far. it's an upscale version of the original Boss Bottled DNA, which has been watered down multiple times now.

Percival: High quality blue shower gel. Lavender citrus opening into florals into musk. It's Abercrombie and Fitch's fierce with better ingredients, but honestly Montblanc's Legend is also high quality and , again, a third of the price.

Carlisle: It's not even in your picture. If you're not getting a sample of Carlisle then this set is shit.

Haltane: Sweet smooth clean Oud. Good amount of bergamot in the opening to cut through the Oud up front. This is baby's first Oud; more approachable than Oud Wood for example, but less interesting as a consequence. Nice bright and funky.

Middle: Jasmine, Rose, Patchouli
Base: Leather, Cedar, Vanilla

Character: It exudes confidence and elegance, making it perfect for formal occasions or everyday wear.

>Then why do reviewers and other perfumers praise their products?
many are straight-up paid to do promotions, many are not, but get a lot of free shit and will be immediately blacklisted from getting any free shit from any brand in the future (most of those pseudo-niche luxury brands use the same blacklist)

PdM has based their whole brand on influencer marketing, they're probably the ones pumping the most money into inflluencers.

PdM fragrances themselves aren't even as bad as some of the brands that came after them though, they're just very derivative and overpriced for common designer DNAs. Most people here hate them more for being the blueprint for the quintessential modern "luxury niche" brand that's just created for a quick buck

What you say applies to Creed even more than to Parfums de Marly.
PdM probably lacks an identity they would have with one star perfumer they would stick to.

Not eveybody is Roja Dove or Francis Kurkdjian, but PdM is an honest house.

On a similar note, now that I look around there's probably like 3 or 4 different romanian houses with extremely high prices for no apparent reason. No known perfumer, no heritage. At least Creed puts in effort when it comes to inventing a fake history.

I used it for a wedding almost two weeks ago because nothing else was available. It stuck to my shirt after a wash. I don't particularly like it but it's nice to see a designer frag actually perform for once
>>
>>18288024
Drydown smells nauseating on me. I think it's the saffron. Very unpleasant. Every frag with saffron in its turns rancid on my skin, the Crivelli ouds as well, it sucks
>>
>>18288237
>I used it for a wedding almost two weeks ago
lol nice one
>I don't particularly like it
too bad, i think it's an awesome frag (even in its current formulation), imo excellent for hot weather as well
>>
>>18288240
I'm just not a fan of this scent profile. In the same vein I prefer Noir or Antaeus even though they're less versatile, the citrus in Kouros is meh imo. But I wouldn't really wear Noir or Antaeus either. I get the appeal but it's not my thing
>>
Tiger
>Very very nice smoky spicy opening with a bit of an exotic twist from the kumquat
>immediate impression is extremely positive, so far the best Zoologist sample I've tried yet
>carrot seed accord in the mid is unique and mixes really really nicely with the warm incense
>the softer florals elevate the heavier smoky/spicy into a rich creaminess
>extremely well balanced and smooth, very rich and deep aroma overall with all the notes playing at once in a very harmonious way to create a comforting yet exotic feeling
>absolutely love this one, hands down my favourite so far. Very luxurious and enticing but with an element of rawness as well. I like the choice to use ebony wood rather than sandalwood to give it a bit more edge
>picking up something that reminds me of mcdonalds in the 90s and early 2000s? less appealing for sure

Rhinoceros
>Very sharp and peppery off the top
>coffee and liquor notes take over very quickly and smoothly transition into smoky tobacco
>havent tried tobacco oud but I imagine it smells similar
>feels like something a powerful and abrasive man would wear
>is not a smooth fragrance, feels more sharp and rough but in a well crafted and put together way
>tobacco and leather becomes a very prominent note supported by oud with a dry-grassy undertone of oakmoss and patchouli
>stays abrasive as it dries but in a very appealing and confident way, like a fresh cigar
>smells like something a tycoon rancher from the south with a white and gold suit and chest hair would wear
>worth checking out if you want a heavier woody tobacco scent

kek I had a good initial impression of Oud Maracuja but in the end the drydown was really bad on me, and literally every other sample of the Maison Crivelli extraits failed to convince me. Wasted 40 euros, oh well.
>Oud Stallion: smells like actual burnt tire, very very harsh, the sillage is nice but smelling it up close is difficult
>Oud Cadenza: a worse TF Noir Extreme Parfum
>Tubéreuse Astrale: fairly nice sweet floral, would be decent on a woman although it doesn't smell particularly attractive, just pleasant
>Ingredients 07/2012: unremarkable, maybe my sense of smell was saturated though
>Ambre Chromatique: fairly good, slightly reminiscent of BI (which is strange because they don't share any notes) but I'd rather just get BI for 120 euros less
>Patchouli Magnetik: honestly pretty foul, it's an absolutely nuclear fruity patchouli so if you're into that by all means try it out but I hated it
>Hibiscus Mahajad: disappointing, I expected something with more character but this was just a feminine floral. Underwhelming

Maybe I'm being a bit harsh but yeah in case anyone cares about Maison Crivelli, I think it's the kind of house where you need to be into the general "scent profile" they're putting out, and I'm not. Their frags feel rough and angular, they're not soft or smooth or natural, the notes are very in your face and overall I find them hard to wear

Carnation, citrus, lavender, animalic notes, a bit of leather. Its an old smellint scent made fresher by the citrus and the supposed marine notes yet I dont smell them.
It smells like car freshener probably because of the cheap ingredients and because most car fresheners stole the scent DNA of old barbershop and fougeres.

>>
>>18288362
Of course its not worth it, tonsil are actually needed and there are studies linking getting rid of them with issues with immune system and thrroat cancer. Simply put people should take care of their hygiene and remove the stones/splash it with water etc once every few weeks/months, but most retard don't even know they have them because they sit deep and they don't feel them or smell them because you can only smell them when they're not covered in saliva. Which is why if your breath smells after night it means you simply had your mouth open during sleep and you dried it out exposing stones.
>>
>>18288368
Stones are not exposed when tonsils are dry.
It's also a pain in the ass to clean them. For some reason when I gargle with salt water and mouthwash, I get sick for a week afterwards. Tonsils indeed are related to the immune system.
I don't know what to do. I'm at a loss

What's your price cap? If you can scrape up $100 that gets you into Guerlain or some decent designer bottles. Otherwise idk, Encre Noire, Montblanc Explorer, Kiehl's Musk? What sort of stuff do you like?

I'm in the market for disposable poorfag shit, like under $40. So yeah, stuff like lalique, davidoff, missoni, car brands, etc.

>>18288489
Honestly Ferrari Scuderia Red is pretty nice. It's got a citrusy fresh floral thing going on that's smooth and doesnt smell cheap. It's nothing groundbreaking and the performance is fair, but for that price range it's really good value. I used Scuderia Black as an office fragrance for a while and it's also nice but I think the Red is far superior.

SOTD: The phantom perfume, Rasasi Hawas Black
Got a decant, haven't smelled Nishane Hacivat but i can say this thing is trying to be in its top notes a modern Aventus but cheaply aka humid woody pineapple without any of the smoked birch but it's the most acid, synthetic pineapple you can find, lemon pledge-tier very akin to CDNIM. Strong and shit-tier in the first 30 minutes.
Then when that dissipates it becomes linear, a constant combination of sharp cedar, dark patchouli with oakmoss and ambroxan to give it a peppery musk with also the lingering faraway scent of actual pineapple, so considerably different from nuAventus, quite darker but not smoky. Performs very well so far after 4 hours, seems it will last for at least 8. Single spray on clean arm.

universally loved, for all ages except old farts, modern, powerful, universal, aggressive and alluring.
>>
>>18288481
Depends what you call cheap but considering what you mentioned, I'd say you can't go wrong with most of Versace's stuff, the other anon recommended Dylan Blue which is really good
Also you might want to check out Zara, especially Sunrise on the red sand dunes (LV imagination clone) and Absolutely dark (A&F Fierce clone, cheaper than the Montblanc equivalent). They're fairly good for the price, the first one especially impressed me, the performance is lackluster but it's a genuinely nice scent.
Cool Water is always an option, it doesn't smell dated to me (and it's not a barbershop) despite not being a recent frag.

Tried Eau de Minthe, which is only similar to Drakkar Noir in the beginning, more flat mint in the drydown.
Bon Monsieur is heavy on the sandalwood in the drydown, gets more classy. Drakkar Noir is fresh, youthful in comparism.
At the Barbershop is still on my sample list.
A&F Woods is also described to be similar to Drakkar Noir, but never tried it.

Sauvage epd/parfum are smoother, more muskier, more depth.
>>
Drakkar noir is pretty harsh if you ask me, at least up close. Is there a softer one?

Got a mini splash of the original Versace. Musky citrus opening, quickly moving into creamier barbershop territory. Kind of recalls Lalique EDP as it gets to the middle. I dig it, this to me makes a better Bateman wannabe spray than does PS Fine Cologne.

I am starting to believe you have very serious problems or very sensible to dihydromyrcenol, which is the only thing i can find in common with all the things you've tried that somewhat smells like sheets along with linalool if you use a very green cleaner.

SOTD: Lattafa Maison Alhambra's Toro
A supposed Terre d'Hermes dupe featuring only a linear recreation of the opening with the exception Lattafa used a different aromachemical than Iso E Super or a Turin-tier pimped version of the molecule with different frequency because io and behold, i can finally smell the composition.
Hermes has an extreme method of doing frags, either all-out naturals with little classic synthetics or all-out modern synthetics with very little naturals, TdH is the latter and depending on something something it can be a performance master or the poorest, most faint bottle in the entire place.
Retailer friends in my land have told me it is extremely hard to sell it because no one can smell it compared to the Cologne series or the Jardins, or even Voyage and H24 who use heavy amounts of synthetics but the naturals make them last 2 to 3 hours compared to the orange nothingness of TdH.
Orange peel and dry dusty vetiver, i can now really smell what anons were raving about, it truly is very manly and worthy of being a signature. If it had an accord extra or two or three notes more it would be a Guerlain, quite refined as it is.
And with arab economic lab magic you can now also smell it and your friends will too!

I suspected dihydromyrcenol as well but I'm convinced it's lauryl dodecanal. The reason being, I bought a fake Rasasi Hawas from walmart online, and same thing, huge hit of dryer sheets as soon as I tested it. So I decided to check some perfumery supply sites to compare the prices of dihydromyrcenol and lauryl dodecanal and the dodecanal was about 10x cheaper. So I figured the slopes that made my dupe probably are using the cheapest aromachemical slop they can find. I don't think it's a serious problem as I have lots of other fragrances that don't give off that scent (even cheap ones), just an extreme sensitivity. I would probably have to smell both of them side by side to confirm either way though, and I'm not wasting money on chemical samples when neither would be listed in the ingredients anyway.
>>
>>18289629
That makes sense i think
>dodecanal was about 10x cheaper
I know quite little about aromachemicals in terms of pricing, storage and blending but i thought it wasn't cheap due to being "a fatty" note
>>
>>18289483
gonna grab me up a sample, thanks bro
>>
>>18289634
Maybe I'm wrong actually, this site has the myrcenol for considerably cheaper than the aldehyde. Maybe that makes sense too because I'd imagine the aldehyde evaporates faster, and whenever I get a fragrance I'm sensitive to, it lasts for a really long time.

SOTD was Penhaligon's The Dandy. Got a 5mL sample from Saks and while its not the best of their stuff it works well for the season.

Right now I really need to find a better summer scent, but I dont wanna do the typical citrus/neroli combo everyone and their great grandfather has done.

Was looking at Dans Le Bleu Qui Pétille, and it seems like what i was looking for in a summer frag. Marine, crisp, and different, yet not Lemon Pledge or Lemon Pledge Lite.

>The packaging is fucking preposterous
Oh, so do I. I meant that in a good way. It's the best packaging in perfumery. Those black skull boxes certain Hennessey's used to come in was also pretty crazy, but the bottles themselves were pretty typical. Xerjoff goes crazy with every aspect of the packaging. Beautiful bottles, beautiful caps, beautiful box.

>Oajan: A cannon of cinnamon shot directly at your face. It's so much cinnamon that I thought I was smelling blueberries
Interesting take. That's not exactly how I would describe it, but there is something fruity in there that is hard to place. I would describe it more like the scent/taste of dates. But maybe that's because everything else is so Middle Eastern that my mind goes to a fruit I associate with Arabic cuisine.

Today I changed my mind about fragrances. I don't think that they're stupid anymore.
While I was returning home, a girl passed by and she smelled intensely, furiously, majestically and aggressively sweet! I didn't even see her face ( which is the most important thing in a woman) and I instantly went crazy for her!
I can't stress this enough, I didn't even see her face! I only saw her back and I felt animal urges coming out of me ( probably her pantyhose helped too, but I can't know for sure).

She made my day! She woke me up, opened my eyes inside my brain! I understand what I say doesn't make much sense, but this is how I felt. FROM SMELL ONLY! IT WAS SO INTENSELY AND AGGRESSIVELY SWEET!
