/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - FEATURE NOT BUG EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and rest them

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

Do you guys keep the boxes from your boots? Do you store them in the boxes?
>>

I do keep my boxes but might recycle since I don’t have any use for them. I usually place dust bags on top of the boots to cover them from dust

>>
>>18292715
This brings up another question I had floating in my mind: if you pelt and leather your hound when it passes, are there any reputable boot manufacturers that would make you a pair of boots with it?
>>
>>18292668
>consistent with what other high quality brands do
What a blatant lie.
I've owned gusseted boots from 10 different bootmakers, and none of them had a fucking hole in it. Maybe because it defeats the whole point of a gusset tongue.
>>
>>18292850

you don't want an unstructured toe because it will collapse, and look abhorrently bad. Just avoid celastic in the heel counter.
>>

>>
>>18293050
Release those in their veg tan leathers and I'll insta order them
>>
>>18293021
nothing really, it's the same pattern on the same last
cruiser is a stock model for whites, only comes in one configuration in some specific leathers, if it's not currently backordered you can buy it without a lead time
bounty hunter is just a non-official nickname for a custom build-to-order boot on the 55 last, if you order it it doesn't even say bounty hunter on the box
you can make it look however you want as long as it's on the 55 last, then it's still considered a bounty hunter
bakers sometimes runs some boots in exclusive leathers and their site has all the custom options listed out, but realistically you can order the same thing from whites directly

What kind of retarded passive aggressive non answer is this? Part of JG's appeal is the price, winding up paying 300-400 for a boot that retails for 200 is definitely not worth it, at that price point you start having a lot of options that are better built and better looking.
>>
>>18293259
NPS (the owner of Solovair and Gripfast) has its own heritage line, they have a somewhat Docs/Solovair-looking model whit proper sole, goodyear welt and full leather lining:

Any of you actually resole here? My boots were around €300, resole around here is around half the price, I feel like by the time I'll have to resole I think I should just buy new boots for €300 again instead of paying €150 for a resole
>>
I don’t see much posting about Wescos, other than Mr. Lou’s.

Are they inferior to Whites, Nicks, and Franks? They seem like a nice boot with good construction and leather selection. What am I missing?
>>
>>18293701
it basically is a new pair of boots for half the price. The upper leather will be the same but the sole will be and feel new.
>>
>>18293701
I resole when it comes time. I want to keep my boots for as long as possible. I like the way the leather has aged and I like the way they fit.

Also, being a poor guy, I use the money I save by resoling as the seed money for saving for a new pair of shoes in a different style than I currently own.
>>
>>18293712
there's nothing wrong with them from a quality standpoint. I think they use a celastic heel counter but I could be wrong. Only other thing is lead times on custom boots. They're currently sitting at 18 months.
>>
>>18293712
Absurd lead times. If you want an engineer or a western pull on boot they're the best, but if you just want a service boot, it's better to go with a different maker since quality is comparable and you'll get them in half the time
>>
>>18293701

How was the sizing for you? Their sizing guide is utterly retarded, it says to add 5mm to your foot length and pick that size. My feet are 26cm, I usually wear a 42.5 in sneakers and 42 in boots/shoes. Their smallest insole length is 27.2cm, and that would be a size 39.5. It’s obvously wrong.
>>
>>18295390
The sizing advice is retarded.I took the same size as any other English brand. Grenson, Tricker's, Loake etc.

they're the gold standard of quality boots. I guess they're out of popularity now but for years they were the dominant boot of guys into fashion and quality. If you take good care of them they will last you the rest of your life. Mine were the most expensive boots I've ever bought at 320 and I still think "damn that was a lot of money". But they're still going great after 5 years and are nowhere near needing a resole.

I'm considering buying their moc toe but someone said they needed a resole really early on. Was that just bollocks?
>>
>>18295563
They will need a resole sooner than their other boots due to the wedgebeing softer and wearing out faster. It depends on how much you wear them.
>>
>>18295563
It's just a trade off of wedge soles in general. They're comfortable to walk/stand on especially concrete shop floors but they wear out faster. It's not a big deal unless you're planning to wear them hard 5 days a week in a trade.
>>
>>18295563
wedges are softer so mile for mile they will need replacing faster but that's not to say they wear down fast

idk i'm convinced that most people either mistreat the hell out of their boots or maybe just straight up drag their feet because some resole time periods I've seen are crazy, yes. But like I said if you are wearing them for fashion as in attending college classes, walking around town, living life, they really are fine and should last quite a while.

Of course they are fashion boots and shouldn't be used for actual construction work. Red wing makes those boots too which are really great. They're what are still in my grandpa's closet. He was a welder in Indiana. There's a brand new pair of supersoles in his closet that look like they were bought in the 80s or 90s. But they're size 7 lol.

I felt insulted by Wolverines for the price they were asking and in that they were trying to compare themselves to Red Wings. They were really nice and I was tempted to keep them, but you can tell that they're a little more delicate and also are a little more lacking in ruggedness. Also they're leather soles and you're kinda walking on the ground.
Would be worth it if they were cheaper.

White's were obviously superior and works of art. But much more expensive. I mean money wasn't really too much of an object because I had planned the purchase for a whole year lmao. But there is a sense of getting value for money and being pragmatic so you aren't talking yourself into needlessly overspending.
The White's also didn't fit otherwise I was VERY tempted to keep them.

But I've been glad time and time again that I got the Iron Rangers because there's something in their shape that just makes them very unpretentious and classic. Like I know if I had gotten the white's they wouldn't have exactly fit in all the situations I can wear the red wings in. Like since I know they're based on real coal mining work boots and made by a boot company I'm not afraid to actually wear them on my motorcyle or to rake leaves. Whereas the white's were just too nice and too expensive to do something like that with. And the wolverines would have had me sliding all over like I was on banana peels.

oh that reminds me. Since you guys are a newer generation I bet you didn't know Iron rangers used to have flat cork soles like this! by the time I bought mine they had the vibram mini lug soles thank god.

That Chromexcel was beautiful and so thick. But so beautiful that I knew I would probably hate myself if I scuffed them. And also since they're a little more dressy seem to be something you dress up rather than dress down. Like they wouldn't look as good with a white t and jeans like Iron Rangers do. And they would look odd on a motorcycle or in that kind of environment. they're more like city boots I guess.

The other white's boots just look so fucking massive. Like I like the 350 cutters but that heel is massive and triple stitching makes the foot bigger
