This website along with others shows two different cased watches but there is no comment on either the backplate of the watches or websites on this difference

It's rather odd considering even the size of the watches appears to change

Looking for a field watch, I love the look of the hamilton khaki but would prefer something in the ~$100USD range. Quartz movement is fine (I'm not picky), and a nylon strap would be preferred. One preference is I would like it to at least be partially green (or at least go well with a green strap) since I have a green jacket I want to wear with it. Preferred size would be not too big since my wrists are on the smaller side but no need to go tiny either.

I'm looking for a chrono that's more on the dressy side design-wise and less of a tool/sports watch.

>Must have a 12h register
>Don't care about lume
>38-44mm size, preferred 40-42
>Used is ok
>I'm comfortable in the 5-10k price range, but up to 15k works
>Although I don't have anything against a date per se, I find most date windows to disrupt the dial

Best I could find so far and something I'd definitely be happy with is pic rel, but I'm open for suggestions.
>>
>>18311384
Which part of the watch makes you feel like that?
Personally for me I like a simpler, classic design for a watch and thanks to GS's stunning dials I consider them the kind of watch I'd want to wear for the rest of my life. Something that would go with everything I wear, while having such a stunningly unique dial that I know I can look down at and admire without getting bored of it.
It's like looking at an abstract painting. I can imagine myself finding new details and imagery with every glance.
>>
>>18311409
I suppose it's the highly polished and dressy aspects, I think it won't age as well as a Rolex sports model. It's also to some extent the brand image, thickness, subpar bracelets. I mean I love my SBGM221, but will probably sell that for a 16710 or 126234 or GO SeaQ.

Hypothetically speaking what would happen if an American watch brand had "swiss made" put on their dials and just had everything made and assembled in China? Does the state of Switzerland go after you? Or does the US go after you?

>>
>>18311560
You can be sued by any number of parties and the courts might decide you should stop selling watches while the matter is resolved.
American made and Swiss made so have legal definitions that can be argued in court.

Of course, if the court side with you then the other party is fucked. Or, you can just keep appealing every little thing to drag out the proceedings until the other side decides to settle just to make you go away.
>>
>>18311562
But who is sueing you? Is it a state? I don't mean making copies of watches from big brands, like obviously Rolex could sue you over making and selling fake rolexes, I mean like if an original company makes original watches and just prints swiss made on. Switzerland wants the money that their laws on swiss made are designed to bring into their state, but how do they enforce it on people outside their jurisdiction? Does it depend on what country you're in where you're doing this?
>>
>>18311560
You’d be sued by your competitors and some regulatory authority or even your customers for making a false statement about the product. Imagine if a chinese company wrote ”made in USA” and sold to US customers.

anyway it was on the wrist of a ~70 year old looking guy at an upper-mid scale boulangerie that i popped into for lunch and a coffee. they only served sweets (which is rather common here in japan, actually, these sweets-and-coffee-or-tea-only type joints), so i ordered a fruit parfait but they told me they were sold out for the day so i ended up only having a coffee because it was too early for cake. i went with the house blend, it was nice and acidic.

I'm thinking about buying a Casio Duro, but I have a 7.3" wrist. Would the watch look too big when I wear it? Or should I just get a Casio DW-5600? I already own an F-91W and an A-168.

should i swallow my pride and buy a baby-g or try to rock a normal square g-shock if i have 5-inch wrists
i had a dw5600 a few years ago, it technically fit pretty snugly but looked odd

I was always wondering if it's a real casio. I'm gonna explain what i mean. You always see Zuckerbot wearing those plain t-shirts and drones always go on about how he is a simple man buying $3 t-shirt on amazon like the rest of us but then turned out those t-shirt are custom made and each cost over 400 bucks.
So this is eather 10 million dollar custom made watch disguised to look like casio or he is wearing them just in public to score relatability points with human scum.
>>
>>18311944
it's a pretty big watch, but it doesn't feel too big when you're wearing it, and I have a similar sized wrist. It does have a bit of heft to it, but the watch is very comfortable and stays in place well with the stock bands. I have a 5600 and just got a duro, and I'm thoroughly impressed with it. Of course, if you really prefer a digital face and plan on using the other functions of the 5600, the duro won't do those, but I think it more than makes up for it. Both are great, but I'm pretty blown away by the duro.

The only reason why it's retarded is exactly for the brand recognition. You're buying a normie watch not because you actually like it, but to tell you have a Rolex. Peak bugman behavior. Both richfags and poorfags fall into this trap everyday. It's merely the lack of intelligence widespread in every layer of the population. The average person is stupid, rich or poor doesn't matter.

I'll say this, as an owner of an Explorer II for nearly 15 years: it (and all Rolexes, really) is a profoundly boring watch.
Well made? Reliable? Robust? Accurate? Definitely. No question about it.
But there is also not a single detail about it that I can say looks cool or is interesting in any way.
Take away the crown on the dial and it instantly loses 95% of its appeal.

I bought mine out of high school when I didn't know anything about watches but I "knew" Rolexes were the best. I wore it every day for about 7 years. I barely wear it these days.

Here's my entire "collection." (It's not a well-balanced collection or anything but, whatever. It's only a collection because I never throw anything out.)

I bought the Endeavour 8 years ago and it's basically been my daily wearer since then.
I bought the Franck Muller for next to nothing a few years ago because I thought it looked cool and I liked the cocaine-fuelled story of the brand.
The Garmin finally killed off the last few reasons to wear the Rolex since that's what I wear when I'm doing sports or if I'm on vacation.

It was listed at 18k when I bought it, but back then you could still get discounts at ADs.
These days, precious metal Mosers start around 25k, but now the focus of the company is on steel sports watches. Back then, Moser only made precious metal watches.
It's a disappointing decision since the watches they make today are of markedly lower quality in terms of engineering and finishing but, on the other hand, the company was hemorrhaging money before and now it's doing well.

Anyone else notice how the quality of these threads dropped by a large margin ever since whoretadello left?
We used to joke /wt/ stands for whoretadello's thread, but little did we know that actually was the case. In the good old days whoretadello and other avatarfrens discussed watches and made fun, quality posts in harmony with regular users. /wt/ actually was a comfy and meaningful place with its own identity.
All this eventually turned to shit when bittercel started his relentless smear campaign. I suppose the only actual reason for that was his jealousy of whoretadello's wealth and social relationships. His mind turned his hard earned wealth into "tax fraud, inheritance money and liquidating his entire networth" and his relationships became nothing more than prostitution and human trafficking.
I am sad that he left, but I understand his reasons. Eventually the smear would've gotten to him and affect his cheerful view of life in general. He did the right thing seeking better, more successful people and I don't blame him.
I guess all good things come to an end and I want to thank you for the good times we had, in whoretadello's thread.

a poor person

>what type of person typically wears this
Young-ish normies who don't (or can't) spend much on watches but still want to convey some quirky or hipster sense of fashion.
>what will people think of me wearing it?
Nothing, it is an entirely unremarkable watch
>what will watch nerds and enthusiasts think?
That you might have the vaguest interest in watches and opened the first article / reddit thread you found about cheap but okay watches and chose based off that

something i think about for people who do not like Rolex:
i love Horology, and i appreciate different watches.
i have worn many watches in my life, but when i think of the one watch i want to use daily for the rest of my life it is Rolex.
that is because of my criteria for a watch i want on my wrist for a lifetime.
it has to be durable, its has to be tough as shit and not dent or scratch easily, and
it has to be able to take a beating.
it needs to tell precise time, and keep itself wound without the need for a battery.
it needs a timer on it, and the date function. (although i think a day date sub would be cool)
it needs to be waterproof,
IT NEEDS TO BE WATERPROOF.
i need a watch that i can wash daily to get the grime and dirt off of it without fear of it breaking or stopping from water intrusion.
many watches say they are water resistant or even water proof to whatever, but in my experience all of mine have had issues with water except for the Rolex.
it has to look good and impress me, because i am the one that has to see it all the time, and wear it all the time for the rest of my life.
i will never understand people that purchase a Rolex to appease others.
my brain does not work like that..
if you are not in love with your watch, it is not the watch for you.
i am in love with Rolex, sure there are many other watches, and they may be cheaper, or even more expensive, but they do not have what i require.
if it means paying more for a watch that is a well built tank that will last lifetimes (s) then so be it.
i will take a stainless steel sub please.

The Cubitus, really, is a test. It's here to check your design litteracy. To a simpleton, it's just a big ugly square that kinda looks like a Nautilus (the only Patek he knows).
To the horologically educated, the multireferencial intertext of the watch is overwhelming and yet another proof of the genevoise maison. The curvature of the vertical edges is alchemical on several layers (squared circle, transformative Work of a prime element into its sublimized form and elevation, mutual acclimatation of opposites further seen in metal textures, the list could go on) ; the sizing is strict numerology (45 rpm, another circular reference ; hexagonal number pointing to the elegance in the simplicity of the square compared to the OTHER geometric watch with hexagons ; 45 in the enneagram points to the strength of individuality that will generate envy among those on the outside [non-owners])

The Zenith El Primero movement, introduced in 1969, remains one of the most important milestones in the history of horology. With its high-frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour, it was the first fully integrated automatic chronograph, a feat that immediately set it apart in a world dominated by mechanical limitations. While others were struggling to adapt to the new quartz era, Zenith boldly embraced precision and innovation, providing the foundation for modern chronograph design.

It’s almost comical how ahead of its time the El Primero was, as if the watchmakers at Zenith decided that measuring time with mere seconds was for amateurs. At a time when others were still playing catch-up, Zenith was already orchestrating a symphony of mechanical brilliance, and to this day, the movement continues to grace the wrists of discerning collectors and watch enthusiasts alike.

In fact, the El Primero’s legacy is so profound that even Rolex, in its pursuit of the perfect Daytona, turned to this iconic movement, proving that even the most prestigious names in the industry knew where the real magic lay. It’s not just a chronograph; it’s a statement, a reminder that time waits for no one—but Zenith has always known how to capture it.

Grand Seiko is the quiet revolutionary of the watch world—a brand that doesn’t shout, but lets its craftsmanship do the talking. Established in 1960, its mission was clear: to craft timepieces as precise as Swiss masters yet distinctly Japanese in soul. And Grand Seiko didn’t just meet the standard—it reshaped it, blending relentless innovation with understated elegance.

Uniquely, Grand Seiko is 100% in-house, a rare feat in modern horology. Every detail, down to the synthetic jewels, quartz crystals, and even the proprietary alloys for its Spring Drive movement, is made entirely by them. The Spring Drive itself is a marvel, fusing mechanical artistry with quartz precision—an exclusive technology that achieves unparalleled accuracy without losing the heartbeat of traditional watchmaking.

Then there’s Zaratsu polishing, which gives every case that signature distortion-free mirror finish. It’s the kind of craftsmanship you feel before you see—because yes, light plays differently when it dances off perfection.

While others chase trends, Grand Seiko captures nature. Its dials echo snowdrifts, twilight skies, and windswept forests, subtly reminding you that time, like nature, is fleeting yet eternal. Grand Seiko isn’t loud or flashy—it whispers of quiet mastery, leaving you wondering if maybe perfection is best left understated. This is more than a watch; it’s a philosophy wrapped around your wrist.

Ah, weary of /wt,’ are you? The endless “Is this homage okay?” debates, the Seiko 5 worship, the wrist shots of mediocre divers—plebeian distractions. For those seeking something greater, there is The Horological Sanctum, a haven for the enlightened, where horology is art, science, and history combined.

Here, discussions are elevated. The genius of Breguet’s caliber 2320, the intricacies of Seiko’s 5717 monopusher—these are topics that matter. Even the humble daytimer, often dismissed, is dissected for its restrained brilliance.

Entry to the Sanctum requires more than ownership. It demands engagement. Those who’ve never adjusted a regulator, serviced a movement, or fine-tuned beat error need not apply. Mastery of tools and a willingness to explore the mechanics beneath the dial are prerequisites.

Quartz isn’t just technology here—it’s a symbol of philosophical divergence. Discussions explore lost arts like guilloché, chamfering, and the philosophy of movement finishing. Every detail is scrutinized; nothing escapes critique.

Sanctum members aren’t collectors—they’re stewards of horological history. They spot a 39-jewel Bell-Matic in an instant, understand its variations, and study movements few will ever see. Watches are artifacts, not accessories.

If you’re content in /wt,’ stay there. But if you’re ready to soil your hands with oil and dust, and to engage with horology at its most intricate and profound, The Sanctum awaits. Here, you don’t flaunt. You prove.
