I make more money than anybody ITT (base income $1.2 mil/yr, I own a mid-sized logistics firm and just over a dozen commercial rental properties, opening a yogurt importing business next year as well, and have a little over 7 mil invested in dividend-earning stocks and high yield savings accounts which also supply me with about $380k-420k of passive income every year).

My EDC is an Omega Diver 300M with a blue rubber strap. I also have a gold Prezi and a Day-Date with a black dial.

I am on the waiting list for a Cubitus myself.
Why?
Because the Cubitus, really, is a test. It's here to check your design litteracy. To a simpleton, it's just a big ugly square that kinda looks like a Nautilus (the only Patek he knows).
To the horologically educated, the multireferencial intertext of the watch is overwhelming and yet another proof of the genevoise maison. The curvature of the vertical edges is alchemical on several layers (squared circle, transformative Work of a prime element into its sublimized form and elevation, mutual acclimatation of opposites further seen in metal textures, the list could go on) ; the sizing is strict numerology (45 rpm, another circular reference ; hexagonal number pointing to the elegance in the simplicity of the square compared to the OTHER geometric watch with hexagons ; 45 in the enneagram points to the strength of individuality that will generate envy among those on the outside [non-owners])
In every way, the Cubitus is the watch to own if you are at all serious about très haute horlogerie. No other watch is that complete in its intertextuality.

We have witnessed your watch paraded endlessly—no fewer than a thousand times—but I resolved to appraise it with dispassionate rigor. My verdict? Most fail to comprehend the enigma before them.
This is no mere timepiece; it is a horological anomaly. I won’t trivialize it with platitudes about value—a term now so overused it’s rendered meaningless. Yet, undeniably, acquiring such a marvel for under $2000 borders on the absurd.
Behold: the pinnacle of autonomous precision. No GPS theatrics, no radio synchrony, no reliance on digital infrastructure—just you and atomic accuracy, free from the surveillance of state or corporate entities. Moreover, it offers a perpetual calendar, a complication typically reserved for far more extravagant creations.
Specifications aside, let us consider its finishing. The hands and markers exhibit a refinement rivaling Grand Seiko—flawless, knife-edged, entirely devoid of imperfections. But what does ‘GS-level’ denote? Unequivocally, it signifies that these elements surpass, under magnification, the craftsmanship of five-digit Swiss timepieces. Whether this truth provokes ire, skepticism, or astonishment, it remains incontrovertible. The dial, with its masterful manipulation of depth and striking sunburst effect, transcends all expectations.
And exclusivity? Allow me to elucidate:

> Minuscule production volume? Affirmed.
Geographically constrained? Indisputably.
Further rarity via limited editions? Evident.
As for the case—though not Zaratsu-polished, its distortion-free execution defies its price bracket.
Perfection, however, eludes it. It is overly thick, the movement aesthetically uninspired, and the bracelet a disservice to the dial’s grandeur. Yet, for $2000, these imperfections are astonishingly forgivable."

The intro of chatgpt's 2 cents. Deep as usual

Thesis:
The contemplation of divorce disrupts established identity structures, creating a void where questions about purpose, legacy, and mortality emerge as the mind seeks stability and meaning. This upheaval intensifies existential reflection, as divorce not only symbolizes the end of a relationship but also triggers broader concerns about impermanence, loss, and the finite nature of life.

Okay, okay, I was just joking there. I just stopped liking having something on my wrist, it's so annoying, plus I need to take it off every night, plus when I stopped wearing the watch and just left it in the cabinet after like 6 months the watch started acting crazy like the battery was almost dead(I put a new one in) so it turned out that all this chink talk about 7 year battery life was a fucking lie, and it also loses a couple of seconds every fucking day. So if I ever have a watch again, it's going to be a pink Lolex, but I will have to suck a bunch of cocks for it probably...

Hello zero iq third world sars, the word is "patent" and yes you can patent a watch case design.

For whatever reason, Rolex didn't renew their patents on the submariner super case - only things like the triple lock crown, glide lock clasp, and their logos / brand name. Thats why there are so many copies.

It usually costs more money to go after and shut down the fakes then to just leave them be, so they ignore them.

Retards.
>>
>>18350067
the bezels on the jeet clone are different sizes so the patent won't apply
>>
What I really want is a Hamilton khaki field 38mm. Not sure if there are clone alternatives that don't look like or are built like shit.
>>
>>18350083
Why not just buy a real one? They're not super expensive even at retail price, if you find a retailer in a mall nearby they could easily drop the price $100-200 just to get the sale, and obviously used ones are pretty affordable.

Is it still worth getting the Erika MN strap? They're 80 euro now.

Bought one ages ago but want a black strap now in a smaller width . Tried an Amazon one and the fitting felt off and felt kind of thin/flimsy (the Erika one you had to send your wrist measurement)

Are there any other brands that cut it to size and have better materials. Or should I sick up the 80 euro plus shipping

Credor does the thing where they go raise their prices by 10-15% every 6 months. No joke so it's my only watch that gained on value.

It's a tough call because all three brands are struggling right now (creatively, not financially, obviously)

Patek still puts out some great watches even if their most hyped pieces are dogshit for clout-chasers.
AP is a one-watch brand and that one watch appeals mostly to people who enjoy grape soda and mentholated cigarettes
VC has never had anything approaching a coherent design language and is mostly carried by being the cheaper and more easily obtained version of the above two.

Garmins for running and shit usually wear big so I'd argue you can wear them bigger than your standard watch as you are going to only be using them while exercising, no? The one on the left is clownishly large though I have tiny flat wrist but wear a 52mm lug to lug Garmin slightly wider than my wrist which I don't think is horrible

Problem with these Garmin is the larger they are the more features they have so you sacrifice features to get a smaller watch.

Sure, but that's the point.
When you're running and you look down at your wrist, you want to easily see big, readable numbers. You don't want to squint to look at tiny numbers.

I realize the vast majority of posters ITT are fat and/or unathletic, but a Garmin is not a normal watch, it's a piece of sporting equipment that simply has a clock built into it. Dive computers also tell the time, but no one wears them as a watch, right?

>>
>>18351319
What country?
Also, did you physically go into the AD and talk to an actual person, or did you just call them on the phone?

I'm in the US. I walked into my local AD and asked the guy behind the counter for an Explorer 124270. I had no purchase history of any kind and had never even set foot in that store before.
The guy said, "We don't have any in stock at the moment, but we get new deliveries of inventory every two weeks. We can contact you when we get one in. Is that OK?"
Eight days later, they texted me and asked if I was still interested and, if so, they had one for me. That afternoon, it was on my wrist.
>>

>>

Interesting. I didn't realize there were Filipinos who shopped for luxury goods in-country. All the Pinoys I've ever known when they were back home would fly to Hong Kong or Singapore to do their shopping.

Had purchase history and when I asked about it they were like "we registered your interest but don't know when we are going to get them in" fucking cucks
Other AD basically did the same thing and asked if it was a special occasion like that is needed to sell a basic Rolex.
>>
>>18351408

The Garmin Forerunner 165 is 42mm x 11mm x 47mm with 20mm lugs.
That's a totally normal size for a sports watch. By smartwatch standards, it's tiny.
I'm sure there are other bigger models, but it's not like they don't make the effort to make a watch that is normal sized.

Garmin 801/901

Form follows function. A real modern operator's watch. No maps, no routes, just waypoints and a breadcrumb trail (for egress). Operator functionality (low light / night vision level illume, no light. quickly wipe the device). Xfer between Garmin devices, so it pairs gracefully with the 32x pocket map GPS transflective unit.

No games. Minimal "smart watch" capability. Exquisite engineering. Screws, at the corners. A flap for the AAA battery.

The time? It's on the menu page, along with the date. Sun/moon info available with a minimal interface - no calendars here.

This is a watch for a guy is self reliant. He doesn't wear a suit unless someone is marrying or dying.

Foretrex 801: $249.99
Foretrex 901 (Ballistic Edition): $599.99

(they look identical)

NTA but the biggest one is the skinny lugs that don't match the gen. Not really possible to spot without a gen side by side
And all fluted models with steel bezels instead of gold which is easy to tell as the hue of the gold is different. Why would anyone get a smooth bezel dj?
>>

>>
>>18351826
If I could pick any datejust I wanted it would be smooth bezel with jubilee bracelet. I like the jubilee bracelets mostly for comfort reasons but they do add a good level of blong too, and I think the fluted bezel takes the blinginess a little too far for daily wear.
>>
>>18351820
Well, it's real. That's why it's avant guard.

Current watches are basically what were for the railroad, airlines, NASA, and the military.

How do you feel about anachronism? eg wearing clothes that don't suit the period of your watch?

I consider the dividing line to be Velcro. Basically, 60's and 70's saw the unironic use of Velcro. That period is aligned with early electronic/digital watches. So, if you wear an early digital (or in the style) you should wear velcro shoes.

Calculator watch, and related data watches, 90's.

"MAGA" chic. 2015 introduction: Apple Watch

If you want to wear modern fashion, I recommend the Garmin 801. It's the only thing that really clicks.
>>
>>18351778
correction, it has routes, it doesn't have courses
>>
>>18351843
Idk to me the smooth bezel datejust looks like an abortion. The old aesthetic of the fluted bezel works with the cyclops to be boomer core but taking the fluted bezel but keeping the cyclops ruins that it's like halfway in between
I also dislike the cyclops on all other watches because it is old person coded but the fluted dj is an old style. Just get an OP it looks better at that point.

If the superclones are so good, then how can you convince someone your rolex is original? Granted you actually feel the need to.
>"I promise if we open the movement, you will see a free sprung balance--"
or in cartiers case, it's impossible because the fakes are probably of higher quality with the Tank.
Other brands you're like:
>"Bro look at the *insert brands speciality here*"
like thinnes of a Piaget, or spring drive/zaratsu/markers/dial of a GS, or case, bracelet and or movement of a royal oak, or the engravings of a glashütte OG, or the extremely high beat movement of a Zenith, or or or.....
But when it comes to Rolex, what can you really do? Everything's mechanically finished anyway and it shows, too, under macro as seen by those san martin vs rolex comparison videos.
You buy a rolex only for yourself at the end of the day because, even if they don't say it, they automatically assume it's a fake but you know that it's real.

You pay for the brand and the design of the watch while still retaining a machined but very high standard for a watch that will last a lifetime. The design that hundreds if not thousands of other watch brands have been "inspired" by or straight up copied.
Is it overpriced? Yes, every watch is. Do "better" watches exist out there for less or the same money? Absolutely. Do these other watches say "Rolex" on the dial? No.
I would personally never buy one but I do own stupidly branded clothing so I'm not better.

Why would one still care about the Oldtilus when an objectively, subjectively, semiotically and metatextually superior version exists?
The Cubitus, really, is a test.

Go ahead, buy your next trinket; trinket good. Fuck your next thot; sex good. That is your life and I feel pity for you.

We don't hate him. He's our fren, exploring Japan for us.

Oh the fucking irony of this statement. That's basically 80 % of /wt/
>>
>>18352582
Not really? In between your avatarfagging and attention whoring we actually have quite a lot of discussion about movements and manufacturing and relative pros and cons of various watches. It's only a handful of really annoying fucktards reddit soijacking over how great their own watches are all day.

>Any opinions on the Citizen Promasters?
promasters seem solid and reliable. I have the eco drive dive watch version. I also have one or more from each jap brand (seiko, citizen, casio/gshock, orient). so a gshock may be another option.

How long are eco drive citizens supposed to last?

I have 2, the oldest one being maybe 9 years old. Does it have a battery or part that eventually needs to be replaced? Or does it need to be scrapped once it stops working? Is it even a forever never dies watch? Cos that kind of sounds impossible
>>
>>18352978
They can last up to 15-20 years, you can get them back running by changing the solar cel.
>>
>>18352978
most likely, the capacitor (rechargeable battery) needs to be eventually replaced if it doesn't hold charge, maybe a couple of decades at least.

Headcanon is always more fun than what the avatarfrens themselves freely admit to. That part is usually just sad.

What type of watch should I get as a skinny 6'0 guy? I just started trying to dress better and I think it's about time I look into a watch since I think some of my fits would look better with some accessories.

Think this is something a regular watch stall person can do (or even myself)
>>

yes, just check video tuts. if it's a dive watch or something you swim with, then changing or applying something to the rubber seals may also be of concern.
