my girlfriend has a smell fetish and said it would put her in the mood if i smelled like something (apparently i have basically no scent) so i'm going to buy and wear some sort of fragrance but to be honest i'm not all that interested in it as a hobby and don't want to think too hard so I'd like to ask for a recommendation
we happened to go to some store with some fragrance blends for stone aroma diffusers and the one we both liked the most, and which I thought smelled like something someone could actually wear was:
>top: verbena, ginger
>middle: pelargonium, cardamom
>base: cedarwood, musk
the description said something like:
>Soft woody fragrance reminiscent of a gentle and endless forest
for context I'm a 30 year old male, live in a very cold part of asia (its snowy and -10 degrees right now), intend to only wear it when i'm going to meet her in a context where we might have some privacy, and probably wont spend much more than 100 usd

You can go to Fragrantica, Basenotes, Parfumo and search by notes.
Based on what you said I'd recommend to look into Yves Rocher (if you can get 100ml bottles under $30-40, ideally under $20), Jeanne en Provence (these are really cheap) and possibly L'Occitane (these are relatively more expensive) frags.
Like these ones:
https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Jeanne-en-Provence/Bois-d-Olivier-Cade-16914.html

https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/L-Occitane-en-Provence/Eau-des-Baux-2034.html

However, If you want what people generally consider "sexy" frags, that's another story.
Here's one.

>libertine neroli
I have it. It's a thick candid sweet neroli without being cloying imo. There's something green herbal about it that the closest thing it reminds me of is cilantro/coriander, but it doesn't smell like cilantro. Then the leather comes out as it dries down and it reminds me of Uomo Salvatore Ferragamo Signature, but more natural,. Probably doesn't smell very similar if you smell them side by side. There's some similarities with Etruscan water, but they don't smell the same
Like most of Bianchi you might need a couple of wears to grasp it.

Anyway, Beau du Jour, but it has pretty bad performances for the price, You or Someone Like You, but minty as it might be it's not much of a fougere, or Thundra, but that too isn't exactly a fougere.

Finally after some days i can post with my bros again despite the nigger-loving faggotron jannitoids with paki smell attempting to sabotage our vibe, i copped some old-ish bottles of Dior Dune and Bulgari Blu, despite their pedigree in both perfumers and brands i didn't think much of them due to their performance and overall notes.

Dune is a full-on freshie but green rather than blue, it is an airy green somewhat minty/camphorous scent with some faint patchouli but it seems it is actually the basil/rose/fig accord, quite interesting but ironically gives a more common accord smell at the end. Woody but a very slightly tinge of sweetness, it's a perfume of subtleties which is fine but not for a Dior, particularly one with the women's counterpart being a powerhouse because this one is a 3 to 4 hour chump.

Blu is Morillas run-of-the-mill stuff, clean and a bit spicy, juniper and some green spicy thing which i suppose is ginger with some pepper or cardamom gives it a clear tinge of 00's DNA for young adults that was common from the era but leaning more warm than fresh. Smells like a junior businessman from the era, performance is poor but that's to be expected from most things Morillas.

I haven’t sniffed it too recently, but yes I’ve tried it. Frankly, if you like Binachi’s stuff, then pretty much anything she makes will be blind buy safe because they’re all pretty similar.

I do distinctly remember thinking to myself that it’s not a great representation of neroli though, her DNA completely overpowers any neroli present.

>>18356681
I haven’t smelled any version of this (would love to though) but from what I’ve read, yes, the differences are pretty drastic. Based on what I vaguely remember reading, it got swung in multiple different directions pretty hard.

why this chart is still useful: i had lalique white in my cart last night (because cheap and i'd never tried it). checked my old notes and saw that i didn't love eau sauvage or jules verne, so i'm not going to blind buy it and start filling my shelves with full bottles of things i don't wear.

Feel the same way honestly. Very light user and don't commit to bottles often as it will take me a lifetime to use some of them. I am more likely to buy a mini or traveler if I really like something and the option is available, especially if the bottle is decent looking. >this single origin javanese coffee roasted by a master roaster in italy is the best coffee I've ever had, but I'm not going to pay $30/lb for it, what's a cheap dupe?
>this 10 year aged apple smoked cheddar is the best cheese I've ever had, but I'm not going to pay $25 for a block of it, what's something I can get from the supermarket
do you see how this sounds? if something is the best in class for something you like, why would you actively seek out an inferior product? Perfume is not like writing code or something where you can sub out one line for another that does the same thing. Most perfumes use a mix of natural and synthetic ingredients, and if you sub a natural ingredient for a synthetic blend you will miss out on the depth. Just looking at the note pyramid for Musc Ravageur I can tell there's no way a dupe house will recreate something as good as that perfume. Ingredients like lavender, citrus, florals, and vanilla have a huge variation in price and quality. At $225 for 50ml, FM's perfumer likely has a big budget for quality natural ingredients, so he's probably getting top shelf lavender and floral absolutes, real vanilla CO2s, stuff like that. Whatever you find for $50 is going to be slop compared to a perfume made with those ingredients. Just spend the money on a smaller decant and use it sparingly rather than wasting money on a dupe.
>>
>>18357076
You won't find a frag of the same quality for less.
You can try Meharees, which is creamier and more vanilla-y, which is a good fragrance in its own right, but it's not the same quality.

The cost of fragrances has to cover development and marketing, if you have the formula you can reproduce the overwhelming majority of them under €10 per 100ml.
Musc Ravageur is a good quality fragrance, but you're kidding yourself if you believe you can't find other high quality frags for cheap.

While not always the case, a high price per bottle generally correlates with a high budget per batch. I'm not saying that all expensive perfumes are good and all cheap ones are bad. I have a bunch of cheap perfumes that smell heavenly, but there is absolutely a different type of quality present in the ones that cost more.

Okay, anyway, some perfume company somewhere is obviously buying these real natural extracts to use in perfumery to create their desired aromas, and are pricing their perfumes higher to match the cost of the ingredients. I don't understand why this is a point you retards are arguing against.
>umm well theres no proof that expensive bottles aren't using cheap javanol slop instead of sandalwood extracts
like if you honestly believe this you either are a noselet who just figured out that plants contain chemicals you can make in a lab or you are actually just retarded. Even turbo designer stuff uses specifically sourced natural ingredients that cost more. Like let's use Sauvage EDT as an example
>Bergamot from Reggio di Calabria "Drenched in the Calabrian sun, it is fruitier and develops unique, slightly peppery and zesty facets."
Do you think this costs more than fucking limonene? Of course it does. If you want a limonene fragrance get Ferrari Red for $20.
And this, from Sauvage Elixir
>Essence of AOP Lavender from Nyons. A blend of several carefully selected harvests, this AOP essence from Nyons reveals unique facets and releases notes that are as close as possible to the wild flower. Fresh but not camphorous, graced with a vanilla-tinged coumarin note, it is rich, fine and floral.
Is this more expensive than some linalool blend? Yes retard it is. Is it expensive enough that Dior is barely scraping by on their bottles of Sauvage? No, obviously not and no one is saying that. Just use your brain for two seconds when thinking about perfume ingredients and how it affects quality and the bottom line.

It lives up to it's reputation I think, I've wanted it for a while now and since I had the opportunity I decided to jump on it for christmas. The performance is very good, I think what throws people off though is that most of the top and mid notes don't linger throughout most of it, they're gone after an hour or two but the notes that do last smell stellar regardless.g4vnv+

Is this really what Drakkar Noir used to smell like? The oakmoss fits in so well with it
>>
>>18357252
>Nishane Ambra Calabria
I've had a few others before this one but I think it's nice because essentially it's just Eau Sauvage but with staying power and a more soft edge to it because of the vanilla
>Tauer Lonestar Memories
Really pleasing leather scent, it's not aggressive like others like Rien can be and the other notes are blended in a way that compliments and distinguishes it really well
>ELDO Remarkable People
Probably one of the most casually wearable ones from the house, got it for new years because of the champagne note and it's prominent throughout it, dries with some warm clean notes in the background.

I saw all of that, the point I'm making is that being an influencer or having someone set up an e-commerce to sell your own handmade frags doesn't give you any information on how much the ingredients in a batch of Sauvage cost, let alone Musc Ravageur.

Castoreum - Knize Ten
Civet - New York Intense
Ambergris - Au Coeur Du Desert
>>
Trying Bioni Suave. There's a very overpowering, kind of sour woodsy note that lasts forever. Seriously, I smelled it on the cuff of a shirt more than a week later. I'd compare it to the wood note in Kenzo EDP, though I don't think Suave uses any Akigalawood to achieve this effect. I'd say the EDP and Intense are still the best from this line.

If you genuinely enjoy a pissy note like in Hugo Boss Number One or something that’s cool

but there is a lot of people who wear pissy farty armpit fragrances just because it makes them feel like a savant to smell “challenging” and that is hilarious

like all the Tiktok zoomers who randomly started buying T-Rex because they heard it smelled like a dumpster fire, yeah that is just a different manifestation of ego

they brag to others that they don’t care what people think about them, which itself is self-contradictory

Flash Reviews of my other two samples that came today
>Caron Pour Homme: Wow, very nice sharp lavender. Very comfy, fresh and clean, sort of in a laundry-adjacent way. Big fan of this one, solid everyday wear potential.
>Ambre Sultan: Exactly what I was hoping for. Thick, gooey, heavy resins. Dry and bitter with a bit of creaminess from the sandal and vanilla. Not sure what occasion this would call for, but I definitely love it. The bay leaf note is pleasant but mixed with the coriander it gives a bit of a kitchen spice thing.

My blind buy of drakkar noir finally got here. Smells strongly of shaving cream, but in a good way. Very fresh, but in a spicy way rather than a green or citrus way. Much brighter than I was expecting. I think I like it.

I like Colonia Intensa. It has a little leather note in the drydown but not enough to keep it from being fresh.

>>18358179
It's one of those fragrances that will grow on you and has enough in the blend that you'll pick up new notes over time. I don't think I'll ever go without it, even if the performance is mediocre there's something refreshing about putting on a few sprays after a post-work shower.

this is me again, realized I forgot to touch on the other two last night so I'll do that real quick

>Hermessence Vetiver Tonka
Kino gourmand vetiver, it's also fresh and airy in a way that blends together really nicely. I've had a 15ml vial from Neimans since early last year that I thoroughly enjoyed my surprise my gf ended up getting me a full bottle for Christmas. Really love this one, and while I still think Guerlain Vetiver and Sultan Vetiver are still some of the best realistic vetivers VT is by far the most comforting imo.

>Nishane Unutamam
Really really potent animalic that to my nose smells like a dead animal lathered in menthol, probably because of the greens in the top. I read somewhere that apparently it settles significantly better when applied with a rollerball so I may try that and see how it does. Also some people say it behaves much differently on skin than on paper, but I'm still mustering the confidence to give that a shot given how loud and aggressive it smells just from the lid.
>>
>>18358181
Love Colonia, but it wears off after an hour, and it's not cheap either.

Born in Roma Intense is also nice lavender scent (slightly similar to prafum 2024) but more on the mainstream side

Anyone try this? It's on the recommendations list but there's hardly any reviews on YouTube about it.
>>
What is it about fragrance that draws the absolute lowest common denominator audience for online discussion? Browsing r/fragrance and fragrantica, the questions, reviews and general discourse are of absolutely mind-numbingly low quality, not to even mention any of the TikTok or YouTube influencer shit. Is it inherently low iq to want to discuss smelly water? What level of retard are we on here?
>>
>>18359073
yup, I have a decant of 2024 and old one (on fragrantica it's 2017 one) two different frags. OG is more like the EDT while 2024 is just heavy aromatic lavender (still pour un homme style but waaay more intense) with soft amber and sweet vanilla in the base.

Zoologist Hyrax. Africa in a bottle.

Naturally, it smells like shit/piss.
>>
>>18359119
Dang. I love the older style. My bottle's from around 2015 and it's very comforting and clean. Too much lavender I imagine would just get shrill.
I'll try it anyway.

Chanel has piss poor quality control with BdC, it's as bad as Aventus in terms of variance. Also heavy ambroxan means some people smell it, some don't.

This is still my all time favourite frag but I don’t feel like it’s a compliment getter maybe people don’t really like this scent.
Is there a “better” version of this? Or maybe something you would recommend knowing this is my favourite
>>
>>18359179
>blind buys because rich
>complains
You're dumb. Why even complain if money is not an issue. Just blind buy the whole store and only talk about the good parts. I buy samples, but I don't spend time talking about fragnances that don't perform like I want. If money is no issue why would you even be motivated to complain? Did you just buy ONE bottle without testing?
>>
>>18359009
The most logical next step (so the most retarded choice) would be Aventus.
>>
>>18359179
Maybe you can't smell ambroxan.
Find Molecule 02 in a store and test it out to be sure.

Scents don't have a season. In fact, silly people think they can lay on the heavily spiced frags in the winter but that's when every building and car cranks up the heating. It becomes "summer" #2. Just put on what you like all year long.
>>
>>18359337
>compliment getter
Stop fishing for compliment; It's embarrassing. Chergui is tobacco/honey with a velvet vanillic undercurrent. Le Male Elixir is the same except it's an insane vanilla cake sweetness bomb, but if you're retarded enough to think compliments are what matters then maybe it's your speed. Tobacolor and Pure Havane are closer to Chergui, but they're both insane prices so Tabac by Maison Alhambra is a good dupe of Tobacolor, and Star Men Nebula by Fragrance World is a good dupe of Havane.
