Why do you WANT people to smell you. That mentality seems desperate and perverted. What decent person cares about "projection"?
>>18364577Same reason people get dressed up nicely.

>>18364582Just get Platinum Egoiste and save some money. Or Cool Water.
>>18364405Just smells like rose with a little bit of leather. The rose overpowers everything and there's nothing dirty or animalistic about it. It's pretty cringe for a men's frag. ODLR Pour Lui is a little better and cost like $8.
>>18364630Are fragrances primarily about maximizing dollar cost value to you? I can smell what I wear coming off my chest throughout the day. Anyone that comes within a couple feet of me would too, but if they're that close to me in the first place its normal. Walking around and knowingly projecting an odor into space around you with the intention of having others smell it seems trashy and rude. Maybe its is a cultural difference idk.
>>18364654>Are fragrances primarily about maximizing dollar cost value to you?No, it's about actually being able to smell them. I thought that was already pretty clear.>I can smell what I wear coming off my chest throughout the day. Yes, that is what I'm aiming for. But I need to make sure the projection is such that I can actually do that. Otherwise I'm spending money on an experience I'm not getting. Make sense?>Walking around and knowingly projecting an odor into space around you with the intention of having others smell it seems trashy and rudeNo disagreement there, but this is another reason to care about projection. I barely notice four sprays of Givenchy on myself, but if I do four sprays of something like Mancera's Red Tobacco Intense, I'll watch people faint from 10 feet away. Projection matters whether you like it or not.

>>18364812Intense is sweeter and less fresh, more vanilla and chocolate. I prefer Original, but Intense does last longer. You might like the Parfum more, as it's more smoky and leathery and not as sweet as Intense. But apparently they've discontinued it and released a new version that's completely different, so IDK if you can still get it.>>18364974It should be the same as the current Original. >>18365075Same. I've tried it a couple times and there's always something that smells like sour milk in there.
>>18365081At least they still sell the old school version. You have to look for "Gentleman (1974)", though.
>>18364976brown lower class /pol/lacks trying to dress like a rich preppy grandpa is endlessly hilarious. especially the Patekthey always end up looking like "you know I had to do it to em" guy at best. learn colors, and proper fit instead of playing dress up
>>18364863Just buy Kenzo Homme EDP or any of the other Bischbombs, it's hard to outperform those as a hot weather fragrance. Maybe Ganymede
>>18365050Try Bogart Pour Homme. It also costs like 10$
>>18365081How do you even tell them apart? I was recommended Givency Gentleman and then I look and see almost similar looking bottles with the exact same name. And I thought "maybe they are flankers, but why aren't they named differently" and then when I smell them they all smell completely different from each other. Who came up with that idea? When they make a new Gentleman. Let's say "Gentleman (2025)" which is the second Gentleman that year, but this time they want to make a deep dark amber and our scent, completely different from anything else. How do they even advertise it? What if the bottle is exactly the same as Givency Gentleman (2017) let's say (they like doing that. Givency Gentleman (2022) which is a oriental vanilla is just slightly browner bottle than Givency Gentleman (2022) which is a woody spicy scent. Otherwise exactly the same bottle) >>18365088Make sure you don't mistake it for Givenchy Gentleman Original (2024) which has almost exactly the same looking bottle but has a lot more citrus and honey and rose. And Jasmine and vanilla. Something that the 1974 one has none of.
>>18365088Nevermind my last comment it is the other way around.
>>18365110>Who came up with that idea?Marketers realising they can advertise for one fragrance and just release a billion unrelated scents as flankers to make use of already existing name recognition and bottle design.Dior Homme is another line that's become impossible to understand flanker hell.Apparently this shit works and normies buy into it.
>>18365092>Kenzo Homme EDPFucking love this stuff so much.
>>18365088>>18365110Well now that's got to be the SOTD
>>18365114But what is the point when they are so different from each other that they aren't flankers in any useful sense. It is as if Tom Ford called everything in his "private blend" line for "private blend" instead of "oud wood", "tobacco vanille", "neroli portofino" they would all be called "private blend" and just have different colored bottles and would just need to guess if you're picking up "tobacco vanille" or "Fougére D'Argent" since the color of the bottle is pretty much the same.I mean it might work for the FIRST bottle. But next time they might pick up a bottle thinking it is the same as before and it smells totally different. And yes, I guess the new Dior Homme is ending up like Givency Gentleman I hear (I haven't smelled the new one and I completely forgotten how the old one smelled, I never owned it). Where it is a completely different DNA in the same bottle and you need to look at year it was produced and so on. If it works it will baffle me and infuriate me because then we will just see more of that nonsense.
>>18365155I just noticed if you google to find Gentleman Original (2024), pictured. You find the 1974 version (that you hold) most often. In many stores it is called Gentleman Original it seems. I can't even find the 2024 bottle.
>>18365170Yeah, you're right. Even on Givenchy's own website they spell it out. picrel
Are there any noteworthy Polo Green dupes?I smelled Polo Green on a guy the other day, but the intensity and sillage made me think it was an arab dupe, not the real thing.
>>18365181Belcam Classic Match smells a lot like the old formulations of Polo. Maybe the Patchouli is a little dirtier-smelling.Dua makes something called Bet on Green that is supposedly a decent vintage Polo clone, but I hate their shit so I've not tried it.
>>18365180Same fragnance? They have different note breakdowns. To be fair I haven't compared these two exactly, but most of the Givency Gentleman are as different from each other as can be.
>>18365210I haven't smelled the stuff in the new bottle, but they say it's the same.I don't trust the note breakdown either, but all the companies really understate what goes into fragrances these days.>It says it's got lemon, vetiver, and musk!>Why does it smell like a leather satchel filled with flowers?I agree that the Gentleman line is pretty insane.
>>18364546NPCtier, you can do so much better. Welcome to /frag/
>>18365232I always feel like a fool when I go for example like "smells like tobacco... But it isn't in the notes..." And then I don't know if it is the blend or what. Doesn't matter much when I drink coffee and taste dried fruits on coffee that is described as chocolatey. Because the ingredients are only coffee. But when I smell tobacco then I can't confidently say if it contains tobacco or not when the notes doesn't mention it. I guess they need their secrets to avoid dupes.

>>18364702I have Alphaora 30 aka Baccarat Rouge for Men andCadjmere 18 a dark vanillia with a deep dark woody spiced side.I think both are high quality, interesting, powerful, and have good longevity. The house has a ludicrous amount of different scents, so it's necessary to go out and smell your selection before purchase.
Went to the store to test Bleu de Chanel and though they smell pleasant it seems like way too basic a scent to be charging that much. I like the parfum best. Is the Missoni Parfum the best cheap alternative? I know there are Arab clones but their bottle designs are just embarrassing.
Monsieur de Givenchy and Gentleman (1974) are the best Givenchy fragrances for men.
>>18365243The note breakdowns are just suggestions / marketing notes, they are not actual ingredients. Often glaringly obvious materials are left out of note breakdowns
>>18365283Xeryus and Xeryus Rouge were both great, but got butchered in their reformulations.(Also, another example of Givenchy re-using a name on two fragrances that are nothing alike.)

>>18365344That isn't the problem. For example black opium flankers I have no problem with. They are all called things like "black opium glitter", "black opium illicit green" and so on. All different names. Nobody will have a hard time finding "black opium illicit green" or mistake it for one of the other bottles. While givenchy just calls them all "gentleman". And when you have something with a TECHNICALLY different name like Gentleman Eau de Parfum Reserve Privée (pictured) you don't see that on the bottle. It just says "gentleman givenchy" like any other. And they aren't even flankers, they don't share style or DNA or whatever.

My sample of Yatagan came today. First impression is extremely good. Very "outdoorsy" smell, reminds me of being in the woods way more then Encre Noir. It reminds me of camping, splitting wood with an axe, in air with the faint aroma of conifers. Has a bit of similarity with some other popular scents of that era. Smelling Yatagan brings Versace L'Homme, Azzaro PH, and Aramis to mind but it doesn't "smell like" any of them in particular. Certainly not as challenging as many describe, but not suitable for everyone. Definitely suits a more mature and dry style, maybe English Country or Light Academia. If you're someone looking for an perfume reminiscent of the outdoors or a forest, I would suggest Yatagan a hundred times before I suggested Encre Noir. This is much more woody with a bit of leather and pine, where EN is very bright and aromatic with all the cypress
>>18365502It's nothing like Encre Noire.
>>18365512No, but they both aim for that deep forest vibe. The forest in EN is much gloomier, the forest in Yatagan is bright and you're on an invigorating camping trip in it.
>>18365516Pretty sure Yatagan is supposed to evoke the smell of Turks riding horses but whatever.
>>18365512Yea i know. Everyone says EN is a forest smell but I think its mostly urbanites who have never been in the woods >>18365516I find EN to be very very bright, the cypress is pretty camphorous and vetiver isn’t really a dark note to begin with. Whenever I smell EN the colour that comes to mind is the green that glow in the dark stuff is before you turn the lights off. Yatagan is brown wood brown leather on a brown dirty trail.

>>18365722It doesn't matter. He's a different person with his own tastes. The only way to use an online recommendation is to go out and smell scents yourself, then find the online reviewer that has similar tastes to you. Personally, I don't agree with the list. I don't enjoy any of the S-tier Frederic Malle classics, and I think most Amouage fragrances are a strange and unappealing blend.

>>18365916yes, but luckily that didn't last very long. I picked up BI completely separately from any discussion on here because I actually like the frag and the discovery set from Essential parfums gave a good discount. Ganymede smells like wet cement for the first hour then dries to a sandalwood & peach. It's interesting, but I don't see why it would be mass recommended.
Terre d'Hermes EDT or Parfum? Why?
>>18365931neithersuck, boring, played out
>>18365931Jeremy says to always buy the first release because if the flankers were better they would have released it as the original. So by that logic the EDT would be the one to get.
>>18365931I prefer the EdT by a LOT. the whole point of the 'earth' scent is the smell of hot stone. In the note breakdown they call it 'slate', but its meant to smell like stone baked under the sun. You can smell it in the EdT, and it's almost completely missing in the Parfum where the dry-orange note is heavily amped up.

What happens if they make perfumes/fragrances? You bet boomers and millennials gonna seethe about it.
>ib4 Newfag>Pic relatedI never really liked anything I tried until last year I came across Lowe 7 Anónimo in the airport.I never got any particular interest in perfumes cause they seemed to "never fit me". I am unsure if I want to dive too much into the lore, so I am trying first to understand why the hell I dislike most fragrances in the first place. Some give me headaches and some smell good on paper but the change in smell when applied to my skin makes it a completely different smell. Am I nuts? Or perhaps just too much of a bitch? Am I based?

I don't want to be too much of a normie or risk hot girls having negative associations with my sent from other people who have worn it, but at the same time, testing loads of random scents sounds expensive and would take a long time. So right now I'm sampling all the most popular scents, but I'm thinking of using fragrantica to find the common notes or perfume houses, or fragrance vibes, that I like, and then using the notes finder to find more obscure fragrances that I'm likely to enjoy. Does this sound like a good plan and has anyone tried a similair thing before?
>>18365914alot of the stuff that's memed is actually good. but antaeus is really shit. maybe it smelled different 20 years ago but today it just smells like a dated feminine perfume. it's not an "animalic, oily leather bomb" it smells like rose and suede. it's not even gross or dark if that's what you were looking for. it's just gay, feminine and dated.

>>18366085>>18366521forgot to add: even if it did still have the brand cache, it was a hypebeast brand driven by collectors and re-sellers, neither of whom would ever spray the fragrance and lower its resale value. the prices an unavailability would scare off most fragrance hobbyists, so again, it would largely be ignored as a gimmick.now, a fragrance line could succeed, because the brand does still have value. i think the clearest model to emulate is cdg. a mix of experimental and conceptual fragrances as well as some more straightforward offerings. then again, the owners may decide to accept that supreme is simply a mall brand and try to find its own boss bottled to establish a foothold.
What has a good cedar note?
Burning so much dragons blood incense lately. So good but not many perfumes use it as a note. Do you bros know any?

Does creed not wrap their boxes in cellophane? Just got a bottle of GIT from FragranceNet that wasn't wrapped. Coming from them, I'm inclined to trust it, I've just never received a new frag without cellophane before.
>>18366619Montale black aoud. Or anything that has oud front and center. At least among the Arabs. Among the Christians they didn't really wear perfume (knights templars and many other crusaders were forbidden to wash as well. Probably to avoid infiltration by Muslim spies who had to wash 5 times per day for prayer.) but they might have smelled like incense from church. Frankinscence and Myrrh.
>>18366636how long did it take them to ship? i gave up after 5 days and cancelled.
