>>18533484I'm the one who made the thread and to be honest I don't think it's a cool watch. It's technically impressive and kudos to JLC for making in steel, but every time I see a watch with multiple complications I can't help but think it looks kinda cheap. Picrel is also another example. Call me crazy but it looks Seiko-ish to me.I'll always prefer a very well designed time only watch over these. It's much more elegant.

>>18533492No, I do get what you mean.I imagine before the quartz crisis, a super complicated watch would look incredible. But with quartz, you can pack countless functions into an integrated circuit, so it doesn’t mean as much. There’s also the aesthetic challenges of packing that much information into a small space while maintaining legibility.Generally, I prefer the simplicity of a time only watch, but sometimes I like to mix it up. The plain dials can get boring sometimes.

when buying a watch do you pick up the dial color that you like the most on the first look or do you talk yourself into buying the "correct" choice because the novelty will wear out anyway and by then it is better to have picked the safe option?i want to buy one of pic related chink watches to use as a beater. the white seems like an obvious choice, but looking at them side by side i find myself spending more time looking at coffee and blue dialwhich one would you pick?
>>18533657It depends on your collection. If you already have a safe white/black/silver dial watch, then you probably don’t need another and you can get whatever interesting color you like.If it’s going to be your only watch, you’ll have to imagine that you’ll get sick of robin’s egg blue at some point if you’re wearing it every day.
>>18533657Wrong thread, faggot. Go to the poorfag shitters thread.

>>18533668Indiglo never went away...
>>18533665lmao
>>18533657I have the white one and it is the safest and most versatile of the 3 colorways. It's a good choice if you don't already have a white dial watch, if you do then I'd recommend the sand dial one as it pairs beautifully with leather straps and can work very well with a lot of outfits (not as many as the white dial imo). The blue dial is my least favorite, it just doesn't make much sense. Sand dial has a desert vibe, white dial looks like snow, as for blue... I can't think I've ever seen a dune of blue dust anywhere. Plus that shade of blue is kind of hard to match with a lot of clothes. Ultimately I think you can't go wrong with whichever you choose, it's a quality gada watch and it goes on sole once a month or so. Also you might want to look into the version without the logo.
>>18533679thanks for input. personally, id take any logo over no logo at all on a watch dial. i really dislike empty space. im not in love with neither the name or the logo of this one, but i really dont mind it eitherim between white and sand one. might pick them both desu, 80 bucks is nothing

>>18533642>Do you guys find that the trends are moving away from bracelet-sports watches and back towards strap-dressy watches?Sort of. There’s still lots of sports watches coming out but it seems like it’s moving downmarket. The top watches will always be dress style watches because that’s what these really conservative brands like to make.
Starting my first big boy job and want to treat myself to a first big boy watch, looking for something unflashy but looks nice up close, works in both a suit and casual outfits. Currently wear a Presage and want something pretty similar, anything up to 10k USD is fine (must be a Swiss brand because all the guys in my family dickwave theirs lol, fine if it's one of the lesser known makers though)
>>18533882Rolex Datejust, OP or Explorer.
>>18533885yup, it's that simple
how do you deal with multiple watches that fit the same role? I like silver case black strap dress watches and I'm thinking about getting two while dial ones (round and rectangular case). Kinda conflicted here, but I like both models
>>18533911If you’re collecting a wardrobe (i.e. a dress watch, a daily watch, a beater) then redundancy is kind of a waste. If you’re collecting watches that you like, and you happen to like classic dress watches, then go for it. A wide collection of dress watches can be very cool, especially in fact. People who never wear anything more formal than a clean hoodie wouldn’t get it.
>>18533541Looks like a Seiko. Breitling and Tag Heuer = Swiss Seiko
>>18533882>>18533885The Rolex OP is exactly what you’re looking for.>looks good but not flashy>works with just about any outfit short of a tuxedoBetter still it comes in a variety of sizes and colors so you can get a watch that fits you perfectly. The Datejust is another excellent pick, but doesn’t fly under the radar. It’s one of the most recognizable watches in the world.Alternatives (none tick all the boxes like the OP)- Omega Aqua Terra, Constellation, Globemaster- Cartier Santos (in steel, it’s not actually that flashy)- IWC Mark XX (maybe a bit too casual)- Longines Conquest (definitely not in the same league as the above)

In my headcanon, luxury watches belong to the "unreasonable purchase" category. Basically spending a big amount of money (let's say 5 or 10k+) just because it makes you happy.Other examples of unreasonable purchase: >buying a bigger car than you actually need>going on vacation in a foreign country >bespoke suit from a top tier tailor>expensive furniture, painting, whatev>donation to charity, political party, whatev>gaming computerYou're allowed to make unreasonable purchases as long as you know how to manage your money and don't spend it all like a nigger. You can also justify it as some sort of social investment (having a nice car will make you look cool, going on vacation will make your gf happy, etc).Everybody make unreasonable purchase. Not everything you earn has to be invested.I personally don't care about charity, gaming or going to fucking Dubai. But I like wearing nice watches.
>>18535161I don't think people buy $25K+ watches from other individuals on Chrono24. So either it will sit there or if it's from a profesionnal, he gets his cut and the previous owner sold it to him for less.
>>18535161>>18535148That's another retarded hypothetical anyways. If your AD gets you a Daytona, it means that you already bought like 5 other Rolexes before. So you are in a category where money is no issue.

>>18535121>most speedmaster owners get bored of it fast, it's lacklusterTrue, but most Speedmaster owners also go for the most boring one. Lots of buyers aren’t adventurous enough to buy something from the range that they really like. For that matter, I think a lot of the boredom in watches right now is because everyone is encouraged to play it so safe that everyone is just buying the same watches as everyone else.>Speedmaster Pro>Explorer 1>Tudor Black Bay 58>Cartier Tank>etcNo one can say you bought a bad watch specifically, but you’re also just buying a uniform.
thoughts on this Doxa? Either in yellow or orange?
>>18535172>respondsDo you feel attacked?
>>18535176Orange. Doxa uses the nicest shade of orange.
>>18535177No, you're funny.>>18535154So half your monthly free income, seems fair. 20K monthly income for a 10K watch.
Redpill me on the Reverso. Is it a meme watch? Will women think I'm cool for wearing one? Will I gain respect from watchsnobs?
>>18535207>Redpill me on the Reverso.Assuming you get a classic mono face version in steel, no, it’s a great dress watch that can be worn with a lot more casual outfits than you’d think.>Is it a meme watch? All watches that you’ve heard about are meme watches.>Will women think I'm cool for wearing one? They’ll be too entranced by your huge cock and thick head of hair to notice your watch, I’m afraid. They might mention it while making small talk in an effort to control their lust.>Will I gain respect from watchsnobs?Yes. Bittercel will even have a shitfit in your honor.
I'm looking for a colorful strap for my speedy. Either an high quality leather, silicone, or rubber. I don't love the NATO strap aesthetic so much. Any suggestions on who to buy from?
>>18535222Get a custom made shell cordovan rally style strap. Custom ensures that it fits you best. I like Monstraps for custom straps but there are dozens of makers out there. As long as they use high quality leathers the end result is all basically the same.
>>18535176This in orange.Mogs all other helium valve divers by being the first. It's like wearing a Zenith chrono.Yeah sure, others may have done it better but they will never be first.
>>18535207Unless you're a lawyer or something formal, or over 50 years old, those project ladies' watches.
>>18535207>Redpill me on the Reverso"muh polo players" backstory is made up, but it's a fine design in its basic forms. Simple duoface or single face with engraved caseback are nice. The complicated ones tend to bloat really badly and become unwearable. The closer it is to being square, the worse it gets.>Is it a meme watch?Sort of. For a while, every other wannabe on youtube recommended it because it used to be a relatively good offer. JLC prices have exploded in the last year or so and now the only Reversos in the four-figures range are ladies' size quartz models. >Will women think I'm cool for wearing one?Women do not and will never care about your watch.>Will I gain respect from watchsnobs?Depends. If you buy a nice vintage one, sure.If you're the sucker who buys a new one for 11k when they were 7 or 8k three years ago, you will be laughed at.
>>18535241>"muh polo players" backstory is made upAs it’s commonly understood, the story is false. The flipping case already existed. It was designed by a guy who worked with LeCoultre, among other companies. When LeCoultre (before the name change and merger) was asked about a watch that could take a knock by those polo players, they looked around in their parts catalogs, found the flipping case and thought, “this’ll do nicely.”But, no, the flipping case was not specifically made for polo.
>>18535246It wasn't designed for polo and not a single human in history has ever played polo in it. So why in the double nigger faggot shit nugget every single word and picture on their website is about polo?https://www.jaeger-lecoultre.com/eu-en/watches/reverso/reverso-classic/reverso-classic-monoface-stainless-steel-q2618541?algoliaQueryID=d59f22309ec175da3b11a543ae65c3c8
>>18535252>It wasn't designed for polo Yep. That’s what the post you’re replying to explains. Good job on reading before responding.>not a single human…I don’t know about a hundred years ago but if you watch any polo today, they’re all wearing luxury watches and tons of Reversos can be seen. Sponsorships, and all. But, whatever. Relax. It’s just watches.

can you guys redpill me on oris aquis?some anons claim over 500 and under 5000 is a no-go zone for watches because sub 500 chinks with aftermarket strap will btfo every sub 5000 shitterim not comfortable right now to go for aqua terra or op so im considering pic rel
>>18535284>some anons claim over 500 and under 5000 is a no-go zone for watchesYeah. I mean, the Aquis is fine, but there’s also nothing particularly good or bad about it unless you’re getting the version with the 5 day power reserve. If you’re going for this, though, why not a Longines Legend Diver or a Doxa SUB 300? Those are more historically interesting designs. You mentioned the AT, which is a better watch, just keep saving. Buying a 2k Oris will just put you 2k away from the AT you want.
>>18535284second hand aqua terranot even a question

Day 21 of waiting for the call from my Rolex AD.
>>18535307retarded advice
>>18534951Just checking again, any ideas? I thought maybe it could be something like a shinola runwell canton chronograph or whatever they call it, because they have a big bicompax dial layout that is not centered around the pinion but the subdials are above the pinion rather than below.
>>18535399It could be a Brietling
>>18534430>it's either a $100 chink shitter or a $30k vintage Blancpain LIPThis is based not just with watches but all consumer goods. Only the extremes provide value for money, everything in between is a scam.
>>18534586The crown looks too faggy and fragile (I know muh history). Would be my grail watch with a more industrial crown like the tank francaise.
>>18535407A vintage Blancpain LIP offers terrible value for the money, even from a collector's perspective since these are really hard to sell. You just want one because you've watched a Hodinkee video and want to larp as a "in the know" watchfag. Also you're completely wrong. A Submariner offers the best value for the money both in terms of watchmaking and value retention.tl:dr: you're a drooling retard
