So apparently Longines has a new CEO since September.
Pretty sure the previous CEO (2020-2025) was responsible for most of the absolute bangers in pic.

How we feelin about the new guy, Longinesmarines?
>>
>>18592802
I do like the new guy's cut of his jib.
He had a good masculine vibe that a lot of watch CEO don't have.
He more than matches the Time&Tide guy's high energy macho schtick.

>>
>>18592808
Maybe he can add what Longines lacks:
>luxury cred
>masculinity cred
>overall reach, especially towards younger buyers

If i was the Longines CEO, i'd get rid of the wings logo except on heritage pieces.
There's too many brands using wings, Invicta, Brietling.

The wings go way back, I think they're doing the logo exactly right; leaving it out on historic pieces like the Majetek, and using it where some extra furniture is warranted.

If I were him I'd axe the entire Hydroconquest line and make the Legend Diver the staple dive watch.
That line is generic mallwatch diver slop.
Then again the Hydro line might be a big seller for them.

I'd also get rid of most of the filler, too many to mention.
Basically I'd base the entire brand around these >>18592802
>>
>>18592815
Pic is exactly what I imagined Longines to be, before they started getting good.
Generic dial, flat mallwatch numerals, printing paper white dial with a fine mesh of lines on it for some reason.
Absolutely horrible, cut that shit.

Everyone is making 40+mm watches, but only one brand actually has the tech to justify that size.

Plus most of the reason for buying mechanical watches is because of the mech technology. A 38mm movement is extremely interesting from this point of view.

I don’t really see that’s happened yet. Look at what the “mainstream” watches still are: 42mm divers, 38-40mm “dress” watches. Sure, there are more options available in the smaller sizes but the idea that the mainstream has rejected large watches does not match reality.

what do you mean? since it's quartz it should last a long time with no service at all, right?
>>
>>18593025
NTA
It should but apparently Junghans' doesn't. I have two radio solar watches (not from Junghans) and i'm not aware of any need to replace either of their movements, only the capacitor/battery if/when it starts to underperform, which is estimated to be around 15-25 years.
>>
>>18593025
It's a proprietary movement, so they probably won't provide parts to independent watchmakers and will perform a full movement swap every time the watch is serviced. I don't know whether the movement is designed in a way that allows only the capacitor to be replaced, but it will likely fail within a decade, at which point it will no longer be covered under warranty. The availability of factory-new movements will become a major issue over time, as manufacturers usually decline to service models that have been discontinued for more than ten years.

I think it looks cool. The angular case and bracelet are well done (much better than Grand Soikope). The bracelet looks very well integrated with those endlinks. The case is 47mm lug to lug so it will fit most wrists. Less than 14mm thick for 600m of WR is impressive. I like the smaller dial, it looks very compact.
Only things that suck are the polished center links and the ceramic bezel that looks plasticky.
It mogs the shit out of the older version honestly.
People on social media are hating it, so that means Omega did a great job.
Now they should redesign the Seamaster with that new design language and make it 39 or 40mm.

This is exactly what we were talking about for years wrt the 39/40mm Rangers being too big. The proportions on the dial look so much better in the 36mm size.
I still have nitpicks, like the 19mm lug width, but on the whole, this is a good showing by Tudor.

Normal buyers mistakenly conflate the weight of something with quality. A big, thick, heavy watch is better in their minds. Vintage watches always feel flimsy to them.

If people understood what goes into engineering a watch, they’d appreciate a smaller, lighter piece.

I love the Zenith, very unique watch both the case and the bracelet, and El Primero is one of the most iconic movements (as already said, it was used on the Daytona at some point).

The Omega on the other hand is more generic (but White is nice, if it was black it would be very basic bitch), it's baby's first luxury watch, also its identity has been dilued with so many versions.
But it's a crowd pleaser and easier to sell after.

The choice between the two is like between a niche luxury fragrance vs a crowd pleaser designer fragrance.

DUBAI WATCH WEEK 2025
Anon's official observations:
>No swatch group brands showed up.
>No VC, Patek, JLC, IWC, or Cartier.
>Massive van cleef chalet with the same stuff as every van cleef exhibition for the last 20 years.
>90% of watches on display are 45mm atrocities.
>Most of the watches are a part of permanent collections that you can see any time in Dubai Mall right next door.
>Almost all the CEOs of the independents are fat manlets, which explains why they push for oversized shitters that distract from their hilarious silhouettes.
>Moritz Grossmann finishing is legendary and they had some of the best pieces at the show, no I don't want a 60mm UR-WERK or whatever.
>Lange stand was staffed by Indians, but their watches were looking great as always.
Overall it was very underwhelming, but since it's free I can't say I was disappointed. I spent some time talking to Christine Hutter, founder of Moritz Grossmann, she is a very nice lady. The 37mm tremblage dial was a bit boring in person. MG movements might be superior but Lange certainly wins in the case and dial departments. I still prefer Lange after having some hands-on time with MG.

The Emirates is just a den of hypocrisy. They make lots of noise about being Muslim, but then proceed to commit every sin imaginable.

They also (this is not really relevant) the most incompetent/best equipped soldiers I have ever encountered. It kind of makes sense, though, since they’re generally most worried about being murdered by their own troops who are part of some other tribe or some shit.

Most Lange dials are printed and very boring.

And their cases are fully stamped with lugs and all. They cut a little bevel to make the lugs look welded on, but they aren't.

Moritz Grossmann actually has authentic case construction, with separate midcase, caseback, bezel, and lugs all separate pieces that get attached to each other.

The new moonphase 1926 has a tudor movement. Maybe they'll update the regular one with a tudor time and date movement. Even tudor sales people will usually tell you not to bother looking at the regular 1926, you may as well get a cheaper watch with the same movement that actually looks good from somewhere else.

Tudor actually has a few models they desperately need to update with new movements. The black bay pros still use the thick GMT movements with the thick case even though they made a much smaller GMT movement and put it in exactly one watch nobody is even talking about anymore.

Good idea, I need to try it on.

You'd have a point if Rolex wasn't doing this longer than your dad has been alive. It's a fairly well established institution at this point.

For the overwhelming majority of lolex's history they were marketed as affordable luxury for plebs. As an "institution" they have changed drastically in the last 15 years, and now it's just pure LARP.
It's more about selling a lifestyle than selling a product, same with applefags.
I don't want that lifestyle, so I just have to evaluate the product for what it is, and it turns out to be very mediocre.

How have they meaningfully changed in the last 15 years? It's been a luxury lifestyle hype product since the 80s at the absolute latest.

In the 80 it was still a middle management cope brand. In the 90s and 00s it was slowly shifting towards "luxury lifestyle" but lifestyle propaganda was still in its infancy. Yeah they complained about Calvin Klein in fight club in 1999, but it wasn't until 2006 to 2009 that marketing associated with a lifestyle profile really took off. That's when we were subjected to the "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC" ads that directly equated product with lifestyle and personality. It took a few years for other sectors to catch up, but almost all products today are marketed as lifestyles rather than items. Rolex was trying to do this before with its posters but mass-access to the internet and social media is what made them fully invest in lifestyle marketing.

What exactly is the "lifestyle" rolex is selling?

The wealthy spectator.
A sort of sports cuckold that watches others instead of just partaking in activities themselves.
It's all about being seen at specific events with your shitter, of course.
Buy this watch and you can be just like your favorite (millennial or older) brand ambassador, anon.
