>Who is /fat/ for?
For Gelatinous Giants who are working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros) or LoseIt (great for both).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy diseased heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of carbohydrates.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your carbohydrates(alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

15% of my daily calorie intake is drinking milk
>>
Just took a nice dose of Mounjaro. Seems to take about 12 hours for it to take hold which means it should really be kicking in tomorrow morning ready for the weekend. It was more like 2.5 doses in one since it was the last one in the pen.
>>
>>75353091
I had to give up milk, its just so easy to overindulge. I was taking swigs every now and then and when I counted it once each swig was like several hundred calories.

Every swig of milk is like 150~200 calories, Milk is super calorically dense. Go take a swig, spit it out into a cup and measure it. You'll be surprised.
>>
>>75353110
Tbh I didn't realise that it would be quite that much until I did it. I thought it would be more like 1.5 doses. Maybe next time I'll take 5 doses over 4 weeks to spread it out more evenly.

I’m a milk addict. I’ve been glugging that shit down since I was a kid. I’d love a lifetime stat of how much milk I’ve drank in total. It’s easily a few swimming pools worth. But I forgot just how much calories are in it. At my previous rate, I was consuming over 600 calories a day from milk alone. I’ve cut down so I’m consuming about 200 or less now and I’m going to try and reduce it further but at the moment it’s the only joy I have during this diet. I think reducing the milk has helped reduce my eczema a bit as well. Could also be the general sugar reduction too

mine as well anon. between 13-15%. i only drink 8oz per day to mix with my protein powder. i could use water but im ok trading 120 cals of milk with 13g of protein to make my protein powder go down better. at least it has 13g of protein in it and it isn't just empty calories.

>>
>>75353190
You had a bad couple of weeks if this isn't surface level bait. Back to the drawing board, we'll help you if you're willing. Bottom line is that you need to consume less than you were when you gained that weight because it is pretty significant for that time frame. In other words: you probably already know what went wrong.

Stats and overview? That would help.

Common pitfalls to AVOID:
>calculating for anything other than sedentary on TDEE
>not counting EVERYTHING: dips, sauces, oils etc
>trying to out-exercise food intake like it's subtractive; you will never undo a binge on a treadmill or lifting weights, ever
>drinking calories: tea, coffee, milk, alcohol, soda
You really have to drop all the pretenses or you'll never get anywhere. Don't be in this spot next week or the one after that.

>a swig is over 10 fl oz
you need to redefine some of your terms bro.
8 oz of whole milk is approx 150 kcal.
8 oz of 2% milk is approx 120 kcal.
a real swig, about a mouthful would only be around 20-30 kcal
>>
>>75353248
You've got a tiny ass mouth bro.

How much does sleep pattern and time between meals matter for a calorie deficit? My days typically look like this:
>wake up 11:30am
>eat first meal at 3:30/4pm
>eat second meal at 9:30/10pm
>go to sleep at 3:30/4am
>>
>>75353251
it's not about how much liquid you can fit in your mouth, it's what you would normally drink if you were to pick up a glass of water and take a comfortable drink...aka a swig. which would be aprrox 2 fl oz
>>
>>75353268
No, it has everything to do with how much you can fit in your mouth. when it exceeded that and you have to swallow, is when it no longer becomes a swig and turns into a gulp, by definition.

Will be 3 weeks around maintenance on saturday and then back to the cut.

I went from 152lbs in the morning to 170lbs in the span of a week last week. My cousin came down and I didn’t want him to know I was dieting (it’s kinda viewed as gay and narcissistic around here), so we were drinking and eating the entire time. The entire time my stomach was bloated, I felt sick, I didn’t go to the gym, and I was noticeably out of breath. He bought me a weed vape so I was hitting it the entire time, my brain completely fogged, and just stuffing my face with treats and bull shit. I never realized before how your taste buds get desensitized to sugar, but I was made keenly aware over that weekend; I barely tasted any of the food, I was addicted to the scientist-synthesized trash that released the chemicals in my brain that the weed damaged. When he finally left, I took a long and sober look in the mirror, the brain fog finally cleared, and all the definition that I had on my body was completely covered with the water and fat I put on. I freaked out, since I was heavier and lost the weight before, and immediately got back on the wagon. The problem is that since I was eating at maintenance for so long, then in excess, drastically reducing my calories made me feel like garbage. I am irritable and snappy, and I have not felt so low in a long time.
>Weighed in at 159lbs today, lost most of the water weight. Still about 7lbs over normal.
>The guilt of my vices is making me fast for full days again, reducing calories and protein.
>My muscle goals are another week on hold.
>My lifts have stalled and lowered due to the calorie reduction, lowering morale.
>People at the gym noticed my fluctuations and I had to make an excuse.
>I am sitting here, fasting, wishing I could just be a normal person.
>I’m going to an event later and will get mogged by people I need to be presentable for.
The worst part is, I have no one to blame but myself.
>>
>>75353254
The rule of thumb is to not eat at least three hours before going to bed because that'll reduce the quality of your sleep.
It depends on what and how much you eat, though.
I finished that big ass 1600 kcal pizza at about 6 PM and when I went to bed at 12 AM, I was still very much feeling it.
>>
>>75352949
I give up on tracking calories. I did it, it works of course, but after a couple weeks i always slip up and undo all the work in a day or 2. I fucking hate it. Im not gonna eat a single gram of food except carrots and stuff like that until i lose most of my fat. What consequences can i expect in terms of health?
>>
>>75353299
The point is, sane people (i.e. not you) do not fill their entire mouth before swallowing.
Sorry you had to learn it here.

Do IF or OMAD with high protein meals and supplements, that way you don't give yourself a deficiency and can still cut hard and be too lazy to CICO (I am too lol)

Even without counting calories you're going to be hard pressed to overeat your whole day's maintenance in a single meal. No calorie counting or weighing or micromanagement required, as simple and dummy proof as it gets. Eat once and do something else all day. Scale does down. If someone gained weight on either of those it's practically guaranteed they either binged on refeed or didn't stick to the routine

I can't stick to my diet for more than 3 days. It's like everything in my life is designed to grind me into dust until I turn to the only thing that makes me feel safe.

I think the only way I'll ever get to a point in my life where I'm in shape and confident enough to actually risk living is to transplant my entire life.

Oh well here's to another 3 days of "sobriety" until I'm frazzled at work again because I work with a bunch of wage thieves or I'm reminded of a time when I actually lived and was loved.

First time posting here even if I am an on and off lurker. I'm down around 20lbs from my absolute worst and my BMI is now nearly overweight, rather than solidly obese. I'm able to do things that would have left me out of breath a year ago with no issue. I have a long way to go, but I think it's sunk in that I have to change the way I live my life. Feels nice ngl. Rather than just making short term plans I have to actually take control of my life, which is something we should all strive for.

I hope everyone here is able to do the same.

Cut off and pre-empt your failures. Reflect and recognize where they're happening.

Do you come home from work and open a bag of chips? Eat something satiating and light before you shop and don't buy them. Do you have trouble not finishing a plate or getting too much food? Measure out your serving sizes. Just throw away leftovers if you keep going back to them early and snacking. If you're a boredom/stress snacker, get out of your element. This one ties closely to my next, broader point:

Break your current habits, because adhering to them isn't working for you and has created this negative feedback loop you're stuck in. Stop spending all evening at home after work waiting for the inevitable binge after you've worn yourself down and negotiated in your head long enough to justify whatever you binge on. You will have to face discomfort to leave these habits behind and make new ones, which has great synergy with other aspects of improving your life like finding new hobbies or improving fitness separately from just losing weight. But it will be far easier than what you are doing now.

Try new foods you aren't addicted to, go new places and try new things. Let hunger and food take a backseat to your life as a basic need, where it belongs, because you've replaced the comfort they give you with something else. You're trying to remove food as a significant padding to your carefully balanced mental state without finding something to take its place, no wonder you're hitting a wall and keep backsliding.

TL;DR: change da world live wit purpose

Yeah, have you seen the average American breakfast? Ever seen a kids cereal commercial saying "part of this balanced breakfast"?
They expected us as kids to eat cereal with milk, toast with butter or jam, a glass of juice, a glass of milk. I wonder why we're all fat?
>>
>>75356425
the reason we're all fat is because instead of eating the balanced breakfast we just ate three bowls of cereal

As a kid, I was seriously told that if I didn't eat a ton of slop for breakfast, I'd get low sugar right around 10am and become unable to follow my beloved math classes.

Pop tarts, toaster strudel, eggo waffles covered in (corn) syrup, the juice isn't really fruit juice it's 'from concentrate' which means it's a little bit of fruit juice mixed with sugar water, THEN for lunch we give 'em fruit roll ups, gushers, peanut butter (which we add sugar to) and jelly/marshmallow fluff on white bread (sugar added), and a can of soda, then for dinner fuckin' who knows what. This interspersed with snacks is what I got as a child. I'm a little amazed we aren't all fatter.

I understand why all of those would have sugar (or at least carbs in the case of toast, i've heard you guys add sugar to bread as well), these contain sugar naturally
but you have to go waaay out of your fucking way to add sugar to jerky, it just runs completely opposite to the whole concept of dried meat, meat does not have carbs

Then I have good news for you, collagen peptides are just bits of proteins obtained from animal byproducts (or marine byproducts if you're fancy, but it doesn't dissolve as well in coffee)
I promise it will not shrink your testicles. It may however force you to cut your nails more often.

No idea. I'm old and I'm taking all the meme supplements that may or may not allow me to live forever, and collagen peptides happens to be on the list.
I don't think it's intended to "fix" anything, it's more of a preventative against potential damage.
In the very worst case, even it doesn't have any special properties, it'll still take you 20g closer to your protein daily goal.

Picrel was today's intake. Lower in veggies than I would have liked, but otherwise fairly representative.

Ideally, I'd also be on NMN and some light Rapamycin pulse, but there's currently no legal way to get those here. NMN used to be a supplement, but unlike most supplements it actually works so it's on its way to becoming a prescription drug, and in the meanwhile we're cut off.

I will never trust pharmacology after covid & after my personal mental health experience from the past 6 years, and more.

>>75352949
hello, new anon here. I'll keep it short.
I am mostly looking to improve my mental acuity and competence, and also this is relevant because I've been overweight or obese my whole life, until recently.

Long story short, for the past year I've been mostly drinking straight water & cooking my own food while avoiding fast food. I went from being 240lbs in Sept of 2023 to being a near healthy weight today (idk what it is, probably around 170-180lbs) as a 177cm dude. I've finally been working out consistently (I look pretty good now, arms are bigger, legs are more muscular, abdomen smaller etc)

DIET. Is the number one thing. Everybody needs to AVOID fast food ALL THE TIME. Avoid GMO, avoid seed oil/veg oil, avoid mayo, avoid coca cola. avoid sugary oatmeals and cereals. The food industry is banking on you eating this crap and being addicted to line their pockets with millions of $$$.

Now I am a kinda slow dude. I'm absent minded, my dad is mentally sick and also had a mental problem his whole life, I get demotivated and scatterbrained every day, i used to be depressed etc etc. But, look. I am so much happier now and it started all thanks to doing two things: drinking exclusively water, and googling a simple recipe, like chicken soup or tuna salad or curry. I make spanish chicken and rice. Spices and seasoning is the most important thing to add to your food for enjoyment! but no sugar.

This is less about dedication for me, and more about making the smart choice in diet. Last note: I did not cut sugar out when I started. I simply reduced the amount sugar consciously for example by adding a small amount of juice to a glass of sparkling water. but that was only out of the cravings that my body was saying to me. I hate sugary drinks now! I drink only water and cultured milk.

You need the momentum. Start cooking.

Jesus Christ. Your shit is fucked. Okay, let me help you assess why you're retarded here. What is it about chips that make you go apeshit for them? Is it the salt? The crunch? Both? Look at other salty/crunchy options you can replace them with to mitigate the damage.
>low fat popcorn
High fiber, low calories, very filling. "SmartPop/Skinny Pop" etc are great
>baked chips
Not ideal. But better than what you eat now
>pickles
>olives
>celery/cucumbers/carrots with hummus
All great but you probably wouldn't stick to them over more convenient snack carbs.

TLDR switch to low fat popcorn, if you're that much of a slut for chips, stick to baked chips and don't eat an entire family sized bag like a dumb fucking animal.

I got off some medications that did damage to my organs (dont give a shit about doctor opinions so i'm not asking them) and a lot of the time I don't have an appetite for half of the day or more.

I can't stress enough that the food you eat will determine how you feel about yourself. We have to go back to natural foods. companies that "feed" the general population are trying to soft kill the general public. It was never natural to be obese before the 90's, probably going back two hundred thousand years

Yeah, but if the cheapest store in town is 200 meters from the house then that lap has to be pretty big.

Obesity has ruined my life. I'm a failed normalfag because of obesity. It's made me miss out on all of the typical developmental milestones that most normal kids and adolescents go through, thus making me a freak. It didn't have to be that way, either. It wasn't because I was incapable of hooking up with girls, making friends, going to parties, or being successful in a career, it was that I always let my insecurity get in the way of doing those things. Yeah, people made fun of me for being the fat kid, but I never gave a shit about what they thought; the only reason their comments ever stung was because I knew they were right and I couldn't accept myself as being so fucking fat. In short, I'm my harshest critic and I've been trying to solve this problem my whole fucking life. I've had varying degrees of success, but they've always come with failure, and now the problem is worse than ever before. Now, I feel like my life is passing me by, but I can't move on unless I deal with this problem for good. Being fat isn't my only problem, but it's by far the biggest one I have to deal with. Some would try and put that into perspective and say
>You should be grateful, you don't have to deal with real problems like living in poverty, dealing with drug addiction, being stricken with outstanding debt, having to pay child support for kids you never even get to see, having to deal with a life threatening illness, etc
And to that I say it's only partially true. Sure, I don't have cancer - yet. Sure, I'm not a drug addict (unless you call food addiction a serious problem akin to drug addiction). Some people seem to think that your financial situation is somehow not affected by obesity, and maybe in some cases that is the truth, but in my case it prevented me from focusing on building a career or joining the military or anything that could have built me real wealth, and now I'm in my mid 30s and still living with my parents.

Point is, being fat is a curse. thx 4 reading my blog.

As if I can just wave a magic wand and solve this problem without any effort. That's not how it works. Besides, you don't know how much effort I've been putting into it. You're just pulling that out of your ass. I know your logic is something like
>Well, if it was such an important issue to you, then you would have solved it by now
But that's retarded because a variety of factors can come into play that influence whether or not you will succeed. But I'm sure, given your initial response, if I took the time to explain why I think I've failed in the past, you'd ignore it and just chalk it up to an individual failing, like I'm to blame for all my woes in life. That's retarded. Obviously, you have to take some personal responsibility for the problems that you face, but can't control every potential influence on your life. If you think so, then you're gravely mistaken, is all I can say.
>>

>what you're describing is outside pressures that can make it harder for you
Yeah, you're right. At least someone acknowledges it. There are external pressures that make change difficult. It's not just some immediate thing you can do through sheer will power alone. It takes the right circumstances, the right environment, the right support, a certain level of financial stability, and the right attitude. If any one of these are out of alignment, it's an unnecessary difficulty that you'll have to work against to try and succeed. Not to say that you can't succeed, but it will be harder for you.
>throw away tempting foods
This would be taking action towards changing your environment. If you have the right circumstances you can do this. Not everyone can always do this.
>control how much food you eat
This is much more within the realm of personal responsibility, but even given extreme will power, those previously mentioned externals can have an influence on your outcomes. For instance, if CICO is universal - and I assume most of the faggots in this thread will agree that it is - then that means it shouldn't matter what you eat, you can still see results as long as you have the discipline to not overeat. You should be able to eat nothing but twinkies and snickers bars and still lose weight. However, what some idiots don't want to acknowledge is that eating nothing but twinkies and snickers bars - whether because you've chosen to, or because it's an external influence that you can't control (i.e. you live with people who always make these things available, and tend not to buy healthier alternatives) - is going to be much more difficult than eating healthier alternatives, because those trash foods are going to spike insulin, provide low satiety, are hyper-palatable, and will make you deficient in various vitamins and minerals, thus making you feel like shit. If you had no choice but to try and lose weight on a diet of twinkies and snickers, you'd fail.
>>
>>75358622
If you don't think you can do it then leave, man. This thread's for people losing weight not people whining about how they're too weak or the world's against them.

You deserve everything bad that's happened to you. You're reminded of your failure every time you look in a mirror. It's your fault. Fatass. :^)
>>
>>75358622
Yeah, oppressive external forces outside your control will pressure you to fail in EVERY facet of life. What value does acknowledging it bring beyond providing an easy excuse for people to fall back on when they struggle? It's nigger tier to sit around bemoaning your lot in life and how hard it is while doing nothing to change it. Everyone has a laundry list of reasons why they can't do something or should give up, the only way to even have a shot at what you want is to make the attempt. It will never be handed to you the way you're waiting for.

If you do fail and then don't resume trying, you're doing nothing to change it. You crippled yourself into a miserable position of presumptive failure out of fear, the biggest self own possible. Don't fall into a reductive self pitying mindset with nothing but decay - physical and mental - on the horizon.

Suggesting that it's a foregone conclusion for some people because of their circumstances is just setting them up with a spoonfed excuse for why they can't do it... nobody here (willing to suffer for what they want) is going to accept that when we're all here to improve ourselves. Yes, it's much much harder when your life sucks. You have to find a passion in yourself that propels you to fight against the factual knowledge that your saggy body is going to be feeding worms a few decades after you suffer to put it back together into something resembling a human being. You need to change the rest of your gutterball life to add the structure and support you know you need, just changing >>75358622
eating habits does nothing if you're a loser in every other facet and primarily rely on food to cope
>>
>>75358710
Bullet in the head :^)
>>75358727
>What value does acknowledging it bring
If you want to make change, you have to first acknowledge what you can and can't control. This is a fundamental aspect of making an assessment of your current state. If you don't do this, then you can't change, because you aren't even aware that there is a problem.
>bemoaning
>doing nothing to change it
>everyone [...] has reasons why they should just give up
So acknowledging external pressures and your limited ability to deal with them is tantamount to giving up? Why? I don't care how driven you are, if you're in a "whose the biggest retard contest" with some of the faggots I've had the displeasure of interacting with in this thread, you're going to lose because that external pressure is just too great for you to hope to compete against. Acknowledging that might be admitting defeat, but it's not necessarily an admission of perpetual failure. I guess if you're really dedicated, you might some day approximate such immense levels of retardation. You might not succeed in overcoming those externals, but you can approximate some personal progress in that regard.
>if you fail and don't resume trying
See the above. Trying has nothing to do with it. You can adopt the "Get rich or die trying" motto, and there is some nobility in that, but it's absurd to think that effort put in is equivalent to results gotten out. That isn't necessarily true, and no I'm not suggesting that you shouldn't try, just that there isn't a linear relationship there, and your success or failure depends on more than just personal passion, it's going to be the result of setting yourself up for success by accounting for external factors and buffering yourself against them to the greatest extent possible while also being in a position to make the right choices that will lead to the desired outcomes.

I don't get why you think I'm trying to suggest that you, myself, or anyone else should just give up.

As a NEET, I think I'm going to hit a brick wall once I hit goal weight
Basically successfully losing weight has become my entire drive and sense of purpose, it's given me one where I haven't had one in years, so I feel motivated and generally positive for the first time in a long time as it goes smoothy and I keep making progress. But when I think about it, when I'm at the goal and no longer have something to work towards I could imagine it being very easy to lose motivation and fall back
Basically I need to fix the rest of my life and that might be a lot harder than tracking a calorie deficit and exercising most days of the week
