Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.

How far down did you get?
You probably yo-yo'd back because you were trying to do it with fasting and other unnecessarily intense methods, can work for some people but I think it's less likely to stick coming from such a massive starting point

I didn't come from quite so big but still 60+ BMI, still a ways to go and keeping it off will be another thing, but 10 months of 0 slip-ups going from 410 to 245 lbs so far.
My tactic is to not do anything that I can't keep up for life, it has to not be a temporary change but a permanent habit change. The first couple months I wasn't counting calories but just walking daily and eating healthier in better portions and in retrospect it was probably around 2500 or so a day, then when I started counting I've been at 1700 since month 3. I think that helped, starting out still above the average diet but at a sizeable deficit for a huge body and then bringing it down more once I was used to it. What works for me is 3 meals a day, high protein, low carb, lots of veg for volume, zero-sugar sodas to stand in for cravings. It has been surprisingly easy to keep up so far. But the real test will be in 5 years to see if I really truly make it or not so I don't really have the credentials to say this is 100% the right plan yet, but I feel good about it and would recommend it to other super-morbidly obese people

Ended the day at 1863 calories out of 2000. Recorded everything I ate and I definitely could have cut out 660 calories by not having a honey bun for breakfast or a small bag of chips as a snack in the afternoon, but I guess it was ultimately no big deal. My dinner was two breaded chicken breasts and a bag of rotini and veggies that I heated up in the microwave. Work served free Pinkbox donuts at work and I successfully avoided the temptation, but god it was hard.

I'll try and repeat this tomorrow but I've no idea what I'll do for dinner. I'm sure I can get back to under 500lbs before the month is out.

I am learning this the hard way. The only meme routine I'd recommend anyone do at this point is low carb if it helps you. Stick to it for 4 weeks, if not try keto which is specifically higher fat (sticking to saturated fat). Otherwise just a basic bitch fitness diet of healthy-ish foods that emphasize clean carbs, protein and low-ish fat is the best, with some cheat meals.

Absolutely you're right, but calorie counting is the way to go for that. You can eyeball it sure. But the problem with that is you end up cutting down hard and its make you more prone to relapsing. calorie counting allows you to undereat just enough so as to not stress yourself out, once you've gone down a 500 cal deficit for 2 weeks you can bump it up to 750, do that for another 2 weeks, then go for 1000 cals.

I'm tired so this one's going to be short but I'm holding strong, taking my second (and probably identical) progress photo. Gonna keep doing one per week. I've sort of just got a constant slight hunger now like i mentioned in my previous post but it is live-withable and i will persevere. Not much new to say here, similar meals eaten to the last few days. Had a dessert with lunch (200cal homemade creme brulee) that was about the only difference.

How do you guys make oats and what type do you use?
I want to set up around 2-3 types of meals for each meal that are easy to prepare so I still have variety, but don't have to do every calculation from zero.
There are so many different ways I see some people just microwave them with scrambled eggs, some people use water, some just soak in milk overnight.

My overall plan is to get more muscle and then focus on weight loss and maintaining, as I know lots of muscle is lost during weight loss. But I've actually lost weight and gained strength/muscle at the same time, so I'll stick to what I'm doing unless I plateau.

I want to be able to account for the weight variance. Given the amount of calories I burned and my net fluid intake via drinking and urination, I should not have had that large of a decrease in weight even assuming all those calories were burned via the less energy dense macro nutrient of carbohydrates. The goal of most people here isn't to lose weight but to lose fat. While weight is the best and easiest to track, secondary indicator of that it isn't perfect. My difference in weight today vastly exceeds reasonable attribution to fat loss or even to the less energy dense carbohydrate loss. peanut butter powder is an easy way to add more flavor to whey protein shakes. they basically remove all the fat and what's left is just protein. they add some sugar to it, but you don't need to add that much powder for the flavor. i mix it with chocolate protein powder

3 day full body for me, I tried switching to a 4 day U/L split but I found that I end up missing more workouts witht that time committment.
I've been steadily going up in lifts until now, don't know if I'm just particularly tired or if the big deficit + almost normal bf% I have now mean I'm finally starting to lose muscle mass.

It would suck a bit to stop having any progress at the gym but I have to rationalize that it's what is supposed to happen when you get lean.

You aren't losing muscle if your protein intake is adequate. You just don't have the same amount of stored energy to fuel the lifts and aid recovery. You're doing good bro keep it up. One recommendation would be to drop some volume and push those remaining sets hard. When you stop cutting and even return to maintenance your lifts will go up big time
