Is anyone else interested in historical fitness? Stuff like Professor Attila's Light Dumbbell System, or Ling's Method of Callisthenics.
It's literally all I've thought about for the past monthI've read everyone. Hackenschmidt, Saxon, Sandow, Calvert, Bosco, Liederman, Hoffman, Grimek, Park, Reeves, Gormann, Klein, Kono, etc. If I can find a pdf of it online, I have it.As far as I can tell, Mentzer / Yates HIT training is the modern training philosophy that most closely resembles bronze age training. The general plan was thisfor beginners:First 3 months: light calisthenics to break in the bodyNext 6 months: light weight training to further "break in" the body(1 set per exercise, rapid circuit training, double progression, full body)Eventually: Strength days. Train very heavily 1-2x a week. Hoffman and Grimek recommended once a week, Saxon trained 2x a week. Work up to a PR using pyramid sets. Saxon would do one rep a set, Hackenschmidt / Grimek would do 3 reps, Emrich would start with lots of reps and go down to singles and doubles, etc. Most of the weightlifting was Olympic weightlifting, lots of presses, jerks, snatches, one-armed, two-armed, all of these movements built tremendous shoulders and arms. It's a very interesting subject, but most of their training philosophies were more similar to each other than different, compared to the modern training methods that have sprung up today
>>75730577Ive been looking into them a bit. Especially the old gymnast/calisthenic/movement routines. I would love to know how they trained something like GPP/general athleticism.

>>75730577>>75730599Very interesting. But wouldn't you say their goals were athleticism, strength, explosiveness etc. and not truly bodybuilding/muscular hypertrophy? From what I recall the only real "bodybuilder" was Sandow, as he truly was aiming for an aesthetic result and didn't care about the strength and ability AS MUCH (obviously, they are all linked to some degree, and one comes with the other).

I tried following the chest expander system of Alfred Danks at some point but the problem I ran into was that chest expander springs come in too big of an increment. In his books he describes chest expanders that had room for 10 springs, and they'd have springs from 2lbs to 20lbs in small increments. All the chest expanders from the 70's and the modern chink shit ones just go up on 20lbs increments with nothing in between, and you can only attach 4-5 strings. Also been interested in the LDS but the big worry is that it's just a meme and it's difficult to make that commitment because I don't wanna waste my time. One thing that has worked for me is Zass style isometrics, that shit is incredible.
>>75734245>Didn't post bodyI accept your admission that you are an algorithm.
>>75734276I was considering doing a 3 day per week regular bodybuilding routine + 3 days of light dumbbell system on off days
