Who is /fat/ for?
For diligent dieters who are working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros) or LoseIt (great for both).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

Sucralose tastes like ass, I'm trying to find bitter/tart drinks and even stuff I find listed as sour has it. I don't mind a drink being not sweet at all, I like pickle juice. Anyone try those ghost zero sugar drinks before?
>>
>>75730731
Just drink water cofee and tea retard
>>
>>75730737
None of those are sour though and kombucha still has too much sugar left in it

It’s a bumpy hill and I’m honestly fine with that. As long as I feel good about my progress is all that matters. There’s a difference between being the “OOOOOO I WANNA MASTURBATE TO MYSELF IN THE MIRROR” type of person and doing the “Looks good so far, just needs more improvements” type of person

fuck fuck fuck bros

I was doing so good. I lost 120lbs last year. Then the holidays started rolling around and I just stopped. I've been trying, I've been cico, but it's like I have a sudden dopamine addiction and I need sugar and booze to keep myself sane. No progress for the last 3 months.

How can I get back into it?
>>
>>75731102
The secret is that no one on earth wants to masturbate to themselves. No matter how good you look, you will always think it's just barely good enough.

If you have a billion dollars and 5%bf and a supermodel wife, you will still be unhappy.

Take back control by ritualizing your actions.
>>
>>75731143
By not eating refined sugar and booze?
If you want something sweet so bad, go for fruit or even diet drinks.
Alcohol's a different beast. That shit takes actual commitment and willpower to overcome.
>>
Your option on keto or low carb diets? I know calories matter as well but do those make a big factor.
>>
>>75731158
Wake up harder by popping 200mg caffeine when you wake up every morning (this will also help with keeping very regular bowel movements)

The weirdest thing about the booze is that I didn't really drink all year. Only a little when visiting friends. I've never been a big drinker in my life, aside from the standard period of exuberance when I first discovered booze as a young adult.

Then suddenly 10 years later over the winter I'm getting drunk like 3 times a week
>>
>>75731210
> 9 of them
Don't do that.
Yes, it's light tuna, yes it has lower levels of heavy metals, mercury in particular, than albacore tuna.
It's considered safe to eat them in small quantity.
Not 9 at a time.
Get some variety in your diet for crying out loud.
>>
>>75731201
Do what works for you.
If going keto helps you stick to your goals, great.
My only advice here:
- protein is the priority. make sure you get enough every day.
- saturated fat is a bad idea. avoid foods with a lot of it.
- processed carbs are problematic. prefer carbs from whole vegetables and whole fruits.
Past that, you do you.
>>
>>75730874
Eat at maintenance and wean off of it. You should be feeling better in 2 weeks.
>>
>>75731231
>Not 9 at a time.
How else am I supposed to hit my protein then?
I had 4 for lunch and 5 for dinner alongside veggies btw
>>
>>75731244
I lean into salmon, chicken, (lean) beef, sardines, eggs, shrimp, and beans for protein rich meals.
But I also have a morning coffee with a bunch of protein powder, and a warm bone broth before bed, so that helps to pad the numbers.
>>
>>75730737

Keto and Low carb kills my appetite. I lost a bunch of weight in a short period using it. My problem is when I went back to carbs, I was still eating poorly so put a lot of weight back on.
I've found eating a balanced diet, with diet breaks has helped me losing weight in a more sustainable manner. I still eat treats most days, just in moderation. All or nothing diets don't work for me. You're experience may be different
>>
>>75731290
you should be mad too

>>
>>75731323
All or nothing diets are a scam by design. Retards who can't read the food pyramid are most likely to fall for it.

This, you can gain muscle going as low as 0.3g/kg, it will just be slower.
Even most fit people need barely 0.6g/kg especially to look good and not like a gymfaggot.
>>
Will having a packet of Mr Noodles beef ramen seasoning powder break my fast?
>>
>>75731540
no, you need to eat "cereal" made from milled corn with high added sugar content to really break it
>>
>>75730770
I gained weight because of my medication. now that I'm off it I'm shedding pounds really fast but I don't know if I should go back on my meds or not
>>
>>75731540
Does it have calories? If so yes, if not, no.
>>
>>75731553
Let me rephrase it. Will it kick my body out of ketosis? I can not find the nutritional information anywhere.
>>
>>75731540
>>75731568
Fat shit
>>
>>75731568
Yes, it probably will. The noodles aren't the only source of calories in ramen, the broth has them as well. Very little comparatively but they're still there.
>>
>>75731583
Thank you. That's a shame but I'm not going to shed any tears over it. I was just thinking I might go for another 12 hours since I started my 48 hour early in the morning instead of at dinner. If it's going to break it anyway I'll have a couple of boiled eggs.

At some point while dieting, i stopped craving sweets but crave sour fruits like crazy. I like squeezing half a lemon on a grapefruit half, not too much sugar and very sour.
As for drinks, buy malic and maybe tartaric acid then add them to your drinks. I mix a pinch with topo chico and stur. Sour and slightly bitter fruity soda. If im not feeling bitter i might increase the malic acid and add thaumatin, and then it tastes almost like sour candy soda.
I actually like the taste of sucralose but stay away from it bc i always seem to stall when i have it. Stevia doesnt give me any issues and while i originally didnt like the slightly bitter taste it has, its really grown on me. Outside of stur and green cola, i dont see many drinks that use only stevia.
Though 9 times out of 10 i just drink plain fizzy water. Its nice and acidic on its own and doesnt really need flavoring.
>>75730874
Im not an energy drink person but L-theanine helps me sleep when i crave something caffinated at 9pm. A lot of caffeine in a day for me would be 120mg which is about one energy drink's worth so idk just how much it will help in your case
>>
>>75731583
Ketosis is about carbs anon.
>>75731604
Probably yes. Check how much carb it has. A general guidance is you need less than 20mg carbs daily
>>
Starting to lock in again bros. Lost all my momentum over the Christmas break but slowly starting to get my diet back on point. I freakin love the gym, but I think its making me more hungry this time round than last time which is making it harder to just lose weight. I know the solution is maybe dial back the training and focus on lowering cals and walking but man, Ive finally got my lifts dialed and feeling stronger every week and all my little niggling injuries have healed up since eating slightly more. Im conflicted.

Ive never been able to lose weight with fasting and keep it off, but fasting is really good at fixing issues with gut and digestion.
Even one really good week long fast (water only or dry) can get rid of craving sweets and with good B6 and GABA consumption in the refeed phase, help restore gut permeability to normal levels (for those with "leaky" gut or celiac like me.
Ever since i started viewing fasting as a gut/metabolism reset, ive been able to break out of stalls a lot easier.
>>
>>75731654
8h aint a 'fast'
>>
>>75731706
Anything 24 hours or less isn't really a fast in my opinion. That's just eating once a day.

If you don't go back to exactly how you were eating before the diet you can probably make it work. I just didn't have a plan once the diet ended. I just started a 2 week protein sparing modified fast to drop 2.5kg for a weight class before Feb 10 and I feel like I have enough knowledge now to not immediately fuck it up after because ive learned what eating at maintenance for several months over the last year looks/feels like.

Hello fellow fats I'm 40 bmi and I plan on getting surgery this year what are ya'lls honest opinions on getting bariatric surgery? I take medication which makes weightloss almost impossible and I've been trying to lose it for many years no only gaining more.

I've got 80kgs lbm and this is the first cut where I feel happy with my size as i shrink. I'm getting seperation in the delts and tri really pops when standing front on. I've been cutting real slow to preserve as much issue as possible. I'd like to be 15% at 95kgs. Even if it's not going to happen.
I had kids and I really let myself go. finally at a point where I have the energy to cut and it fucking rocks. My son saw me with my shirt off for the first time in a while and he said 'wow dad you look really muscly'

It's got nothing to do with willpower let me explain it to your retard mongoloid brain. The medication we take blocks your dopamine receptors from getting overloaded with dopamine which is what schizophrenics have problems with. Too much pointless dopamine gets into the brain basically. The medication blocks these receptors and you're left with very little dopamine. So to get your dopamine a little higher your brain tells you to eat so you can be a better mood. That's it. You don't have to deal with low dopamine or hallucinations or anything. You're no less stronger or better than a steroid user in my eyes. You have your natural hormones and your natural dopamine and your natural satiety. You have no problems and are on baby mode while we are on super difficulty and you are bRAGGING. what a loser you are.

I'm relatively skinny now after being a morbidly obese the first 20 years of my life. would it be normal to have to wear a knee brace on my right knee when exercising to avoid pain or discomfort? From 124 kg down to 95 kg
Started in June.
Still sedentary, no exercise, gonna go to a gym any day now.

Caused multiple meltdowns by posting food I eat here.
At first I thought that was funny but then the keto schizo came and I realized anons ITT are having it pretty bad already, so I don't mention Dr Pepper as often nowadays.
Still drink it often, though.

I don't really have progress photos, but I'm looking much better than I used to and went from stretching the final notch on my belt to using the fourth-last one instead.
90~100 kg is probably an ideal weight for me, but I don't have enough muscle mass for that.
Without lifting, I'll need to drop well below 80 kg to be "fit".
I'm planning on going until either of the two things happen: my abs become visible or I get noticeable loose skin.

I need some help. I have been doing good on my weight loss journey. I have finally hit my goal of 250 lbs and am now working towards my next goal of 200. However I am at a cross roads both emotionally and physically. Right now my routine is working out Sun/Tues/Thursday with about an hour and a half walk everyday and a 4+ hour walk on Tuesday/Wednesday since I have those days off and more time. Thing is though is on my off days I generally do not really do anything. Not only do I feel restless, but I am having some things going on in my life that keeps occupying my mind. Sitting and doing nothing or trying to distract myself with video games and TV is not working and I have little motivation for it because of my issues. However, working out has been doing a good job of clearing my mind. I have been told that I really should not be working out everyday as letting the body rest will help more in both losing weight and building muscle, but sitting still is letting my emotions take over my mind, making me lose motivation, hope and will. This is specially hard because I am a stress eater as well and the temptation is getting more and more powerful. What are some simple exercises that I can do to help distract and keep me from getting wrapped in to my emotions and solve my restlessness?

I said that once I hit my goal of 250 I would start to look in to muscle growth, but I don't have much equipment and I am still too shy to go to a gym. Are there any light workouts or cardio that can help me work out my arms and core that aren't to straining? Or maybe I should just do some more light cardio? With all the snow I have just been doing the basic march in place exercise when it is too cold out and I feel like I am working up much more of a sweat than just walking while still being not too crazy to be able to do my more intense routines on my on days.

No, I think it's darn good advice.
You're sabotaging your progress if you don't get enough protein.
Fruits. Do you *have to* eat fruits? I guess not. But if you feel an urge to eat something sweet, you're much better off eating a whole fruit or some berries, than unwrapping whatever processed slop they've sold you.
More generally, don't sleep on phytonutrients. Yes, fresh food is more expensive, but do your best.

No. The little packets of flavor are almost entirely salt, with a bit of sugar, some MSG and various nonsense.
The sugar in that packet is less than a gram and it is not sufficient to kick you of ketosis.

I guess for context so I don't feel like a complete idiot: I've been breaking up my weight loss in to chunks. Instead of focusing purely on getting down to 170 or less, I've set it to smaller bits as I felt like I was getting too overwhelmed. I was 310 and I put my curret goal to 250. Now that I have hit that, my next goal is 200. I got this idea from here actually as I was confused on how/what sets and reps where. I thought that working out was just going till you where too tired and I was having trouble doing anything because I was just trying to push myself too hard on something I need to build up. Doing this, I felt like I have made actual and faster progress. I really haven't been keeping full track of how much time I have been losing weight as I was becoming overly obessed with how much I was losing, but now that I have been able too get this far and see and feel results I will be keeping better tabs and I think that if I take the same approch and weigh myself in smaller chunks than hyper obsessivly then I might be able to actually keep track better and see what needs to be changed.

My costco life hack for the cheapest easiest meals. Buy frozen mixed vegetables and a couple of rotisserie chickens. Eat the breasts with steamed frozen veggies. Pick the meat off the bones. Throw the carcasses and skin in large soup pot for a couple hours then strain it to get thick, rich chicken broth. If you don't want too much fat, skim it off the top. Add reserved meat and vegetables of choice. I usually do celery, carrots, cabbage, canned tomatoes, onion, and turnip.

I supposed it would be possible but it would be very very hard. You would have to burn a lot of calories each day in addition to your normal basal metabolic rate. We're talking like 15 to 18 miles of walking a day worth. This takes a lot of time and I think would be very hard to do consistently for 2 and a half months. I say this as someone who has been averaging about 12 miles a day for the past 3 weeks or so.

Literally never no matter how what angle you interpret this scene.

Let me remove the ESL from that sentence:
This has never been me in any context of that given scene.

I did this one time in like 2nd grade and people talked about it for 10 years, so its a pretty foundational memory for me to not eat shit out of the trash even if its perfectly good.
I'd probably still do it if I was actually desperate, like homeless.

>be lazy and spend all your time sitting, sleeping or laying in bed instead of being active
>consoom more calories than your body can burn through
>repeat until you are overweight or obese
It's that simple.

I've hit that milestone recently and it's nuts. People went from "hey, weight loss going good huh? Keep it up" to "Holy shit Anon, keep going and you might dissapear, haha!" kind of comments as if seemingly overnight.

I just got on the scale like I always do every monday morning, noted I lost weight, put it in my app and moved on with my life as it's now just routine, and suddenly everyone acts like I just lost half my bodyweight in a week..

Crazy stuff. But also motivating as fuck, the weight loss is going slower but people notice it more. Strange how that works.
Also; FUCK YOU GOOKMOOT, stop making posting on 4chan a bigger pain in the ass every year you slant eyed chink bastard

680 calories in an hour of light stationary cycling? It's not a very intense workout, I sweat but I was playing my 3ds the whole time.

That can't possibly be right can it?

Yeah I just upped my chicken portion a little instead. I know pork rinds still qualify for keto but I'm on a diet that's like all protein and fiber so rinds don't qualify for that routine even if they fit within my deficit.

i dont think you know what "spinning" is, do you?
that shit is actually high intensity and exhausting af
take your tdee at sedentary, substract 500-750 calories off that tdee since youre pretty fucking fat and see how your weight moves from that point, ignore all exercises calories, adjust from weekly weight loss
its the same shit, every single time
>>
>>75734644
I legitimately have found that if I am hungry, if I go for a walk I am no longer hungry. If you try this it could be doubly effective as it eliminates your hunger plus helps you burn a few hundred more calories.
>>
>>75734783
There isn't another option in the exercise category for a stationary bike. I wasn't spinning and that why I asked.
Also, of course I'm pretty fucking fat. Look which thread you're in, dumbass.

I have those in the freezer too, for emergency. I was like you, I had a system that was working, I was losing weight, then started getting into more healthy eating and enjoying cooking for myself, but the weight loss definitely started to slow/stall after that. My tip is if something is working, stick with it until it doesnt.
