>Who is /fat/ for?
For famous feasters working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

I have managed to find a way to lose weight: drink less
I've managed to work one night into my weekly diet to cut "loose", but I plan to front-load my liquor (I drink whiskey, not beer) so it hits me all at once instead of sipping as the night goes on, inevitably leading to another glass (and another to keep the feelings going).
Tried it out and managed to only end up ~100 calories over my weekly, and that was before my (now) ramped up workouts.

/fat/ I need your best binge preventing strategies. I cant stop thinking about food from the second I wake to the moment I lay down I'm having near constant cravings. Its all I think about all day, I go for a walk and listen to an audiobook and in the back of mind I'm thinking about eating. I watch a movie and I can barely follow the plot becuase I just want food. I cant play vidya becuase all I can think about is food. Even when lifting its hard to keep track of my sets and reps amid the background noise of my brain craving food. When I finally do eat I only feel satisfied while I'm actively putting food in my mouth, im still hungry when the meal is over. I want to binge so bad. I'll eat a pound of chicken and crave another, Ill eat a bag of veggies and when its empty contemplate eating a second. I've never been so consumed by thoughts of food before its making it so I cant focus on anything.

Ive tried munching ice/drinking water, but those dont help. I was thinking about trying to go for a controlled binge on something low calorie like broccoli or spinach, just let myself eat as much as I want and assess the damage when it's over, better that than something with more calories.

Just stop eating carbs. Carbs are addictive and cause hunger.

After a few days on zero carb you'll be fixed.

Turns out cutting caloric dense shit from your diet helps you lose weight :o
Alright, sorry for being mean, to be fair plenty of people don't know how caloric alcohol is. It's not one of the three big macros, some people don't even know that it has calories.

>>76573510
>binge preventing strategies
Not having anything tasty that you would want to binge nearby, or even in your home if possible, helps.

>cravings
Haven't figured that one out yet. But I never had a craving for binging, it has always been a craving for tasty food. Honestly I just tank the craving and wait for it go away, but if I wasn't serious about this I'd probably just have a portion of the food, say if I was craving pizza, I'd just eat a slice or two and CICO it by taking something else out of my diet for the day, or even OMAD the food you're craving.
But if you're craving for binging I genuinely don't know. I despite broccoli, I eat it but I hate it, I can't imagine myself binging broccoli in a million years, but if it helps you, it's one of the most low calorie foods to binge, you'll have to eat near comedic amounts of broccoli to do some damage, like at 34kcal/100g, even if you ate 3kg of broccoli that's barely 1000 kcal.
>>
>>76573510
remove carbs, sugar, from your diet. Thats it.
>>
>>76573510
if u can’t fix the mental part of it then fix the physical aspect of it and throw out all the junk and dont buy it anymore. can’t binge on something that you dont have in ur house anymore.

I already dont eat hardly any sugar, and im already under 20g of carbs. Chicken breast makes up more than half my daily calories and the other half are fats in the form of olive oil and green vegetables.
>>76573592
>>76573568
I did that awhile ago, there isnt anything in my house besides lean protiens, and green veggies but what I'm craving is just more of what I'm already eating. I want to eat another couple lbs of chicken, with a pork tenderloin, and then gorge myself on bags of mixed veggies. I was looking at rotisserie chickens at the super market and was considering buying 2 and eating the entire things.

Its the portions I'm struggling with I guess. I'm eating "the good stuff" but its just not satisfying me at the portions I need to eat to stay within my calorie target. I'm trying to limit myself to 1500kcal but for whatever reason my brain is like "not enough, you want more" im not craving pizza or sweets I'm craving just more food, that feeling of having a belly full of something warm, maybe I should go binge on broth or something, its driving me nuts.

Yeah, he's pretty close its ~1000 (chicken 370, broccoli 280, marinara 200, broth 80, garlic 70, collagen 70, spinach 64) its intended as an OMAD. I added a 270g bag of spinach to the sauce today, you can't really see it in the pic but man it was good, it went really well with the sauce might start doing that more often, it was only 64 calories for the whole bag of spinach.

I mean I was, I started at close to 400lbs, but man its getting so fucking hard to lose weight now. I keep going over my target, I lose 5 lbs on month then I gain back 6 the next, and the whole time I'm struggling with cravings. I'm still fat, I've probably got like 30 more lbs of fat (or more) on me. Maybe I just need to fast or something to break the cravings, that worked when I was struggling before, I've been spinning my wheels for a few months now losing a little just to gain it right back. The cravings man, they're hitting me hard lately I don't remember getting cravings like this on the way down from 400, only now that I'm getting close to hitting my goal am I really struggling with them. Its like I can't control myself, I just want to binge and feel full. I can definitely see how people yo-yo and gain it all back now.

Melatonin is a hormone that tells your body that it's time to go to sleep. It doesn't make you sleep deeper or prolong your sleep. Likely what's happening is because you're at a deficit, you're having a little bit of insomnia. I would recommend something like a magnesium supplement or chamomile tea to relax your body and prime yourself for a deeper, longer period of sleep.
>>
the """"hormone""""" taht tells me that its time to sleep is named BENADRIL AND ALCOHOL

>>
>>76574216
yes
if you want to melatoninmax get it in two forms:
>long release pills/gummies/whatever
>spray
you take the long release pills when you go to sleep and then take the spray when you wake up at night and it's at least 2 hours until your waking time
get them in the smallest dosage you can, melatonin is very dose dependent and you often need very little
magnesium isn't a bad idea either, I recommend just getting ZMA

I think my other attempts at losing weight failed because I didn't find anything to fill the void of positive feelings that removing food left. That's a good insight anon, in general that's a bit of an issue with most vices. Find ways to reward yourself to cope, and ideally also do some introspection/analysis as for why you need to cope in the first place. Maybe if you can fix that part the rest will fall into place.
Picrel are some markdown notes I took after reading atomic habits, consider reading the section on "anatomy of a habit" and implementing that concept. Those notes were for myself so I'm not sure how much sense they make to you, but maybe it helps.

>>76574488
Good luck, but fasting isn't going to be a good strategy long term. 'all or nothing' mentality doesn't work in the long term. I know it's tempting to want to get results fast but it's not going to work.

Ideally you'd start with small, consistent changes. Eg 5k steps a week for 3 weeks, then eat at maintenance for 4 weeks, then run a 500kcal deficit for 5 weeks etc.

Ah yes, I'm sure the country which has had 80% of all of it's buildings destroyed, is currently relying on humanitarian aid from the UN to feed their population, has a neighboring country monitoring airdrops + intentionally shooting people who try to receive the aid, and was just declared to be in a state of famine two weeks ago by the UN and WHO (it only took this long because Israel keeps killing all reporters so no one can actually collect ground information).... has a population that is moderately overweight.

It's a completely fine amount, more on the high end, just know that if you're lifting/have muscle to lose, if you don't meet protein goals, you're going to lose muscle, and meeting protein goals on 1200 is kind of hard unless you go for PSMF(you eat almost entirely protein).

But if you don't have muscles to lose/ain't lifting, go for it. I recommend a cheap multivitamin just to be safe when you're going for those more extreme diets though.

A couple things worked for me.
1) Tackling emotional problems
I don't know you, but a lot of what you've laid out sounds real familiar and for me was rooted in a lot of emotional eating.
I don't have great advice for this step because it's very individual, but reading self-help books is a good low-stimulation activity that helps you find what you need.
It's very likely you're trying to avoid being alone with your thoughts, ask yourself why.
2) Push down calories really hard
Force yourself to eat as little as possible (for me it was 6 scoops of protein powder) to show yourself you can actually survive eating less.
Then go back to something more moderate knowing you were able to maintain worse for days/weeks.
3) Keep protein high
Consume as much high protein (protein shakes, lean meat) low-calorie sources as you want, but don't go overboard on the fats like ketolards.
I personally believe 80% of the benefits of keto for most people is actually just getting enough protein instead of pure slop.
4) HYDRATION
Make sure you're having loads of water and getting enough electrolytes (at least salt).
You need more water than you think, and if you're active you need more water and salt than you think.

My protocol for fasting weight loss is as follows which keeps the thyroid at peak function while avoiding massive, long term cortisol spikes.
>3 day water fast, 4 day feeding period.
The 4 day feeding period has a 3000kcal diet plan which puts you at a weekly deficit. It includes carbs to restart the thyroid and keep cortisol down. The prolonged fasting period is low intensity and low stress. No major work outs, just some walks in nature. Feeding period is your work out zone to burn additional calories, I would just avoid heavy work outs on your last day before returning to the fast. Lots of milk, coconut water, beef, veggies, and eggs on the feeding days.

>>76575309
high dose theanine is better
>>
>>76575349
From what I understand, peak metabolic efficiency requires a longer feeding period for every fast you do.
>>
>>76573453
I don't know if this problem has been explained here before, but what hinders my fat loss work isn't the foods I eat but the volume. I've totally shifted my diet towards natural products only (rice veggies fruits meats and fish) but the issue is that I just eat too much. I just don't feel satiated unless I eat extreme portions. I assume it's stomach stretching and in this case how could I find a natural solution to restretching it back to normal. Needless to say I've been fat all my life but I don't want this to be my fate until I die

I really don't get all the fasting hate on these threads lol
Must be lack of self control to stick to it without hardcore pigging out on refeeding days. Seriously.

>>76574570
>Fasting doesn't work
Fasting is literally eating 0 calories. How does it not work?

>refeeding days
The math is very simple, it's the exact same as dividing what you eat on the refeeding day by the days that you fasted.
Like say you fasted for 4 days, then say you ate 3000 kcal on the 5th day. (which you really don't need to, I've been doing 600~1200 refeeding days and I don't even want to eat that, if it wasn't medically dangerous I'd fast for longer, but lets consider worst case scenario, say you pigged out)
It's the exact same as eating 3000/5=600 kcal daily. Explain to me how are you not going to lose weight on 600 kcal daily? Are you violating the laws of thermodynamics or is your TDEE 600?

>Can't keep the weight after you lost
This one is my favorite. Like you've sticked to one of the most extreme diets for like a year, now suddenly you won't have the willpower to eat at maintenance? "You don't learn self control" yeah, cause the self control needed to eat at maintenance is sooo much greater than the self control needed to not eat for 4~5 days. "You don't learn to eat right" yeah, cause counting calories is sooo hard... Also, it's not like you can't just keep fasting forever. I don't really intend to stop it once I reach my goal weight, I just won't do 5 days, but I'll just eat when I feel like eating/hungry, probably once every 2~3 days, and that way I can eat most things that I want (within reason obv, no >3000 kcal) without worrying about CICO too much.

You don't need to fast, if it feels miserable to you don't do it, there are a thousand diets out there, but hating on it just because you have skill issue is so retarded

What to eat, how much, and when, rather than going from 0-100 and then 100-0
>>
>>76575419
>"You don't learn to eat right" yeah, cause counting calories is sooo hard...
it's not that counting calories is hard, is that you need to learn what you can eat within a calorie budget that still leaves you satisfied. if you try to CICO while eating only pizza and ice cream, you are going to fail.

>>
>>76575432
>You're going from one extreme to another

Maybe I'm biased because I did CICO for like 2 months and lost a very decent amount of weight with that before going into Intermittent Fasting, then OMAD, then prolonged fasting(2 days, then 3, then 5). I do kind of agree though, I don't recommend people to go straight into fasting, you can but it is going 0-100 to 100-0 and going to be way harder on you for no reason, probably do the same thing that I did if you want to get into fasting, or not, I'm not your mother. The most important thing is not getting frustrated if you fail and going back to how you were eating before, you can fail diets, but then you switch into other diets, not back to pigging out, and always keep in mind that the only thing that matters is CICO, fasting isn't magic, it's a tool to help you decrease caloric intake. As in, if you really want to break your fast it's completely fine, just don't eat something insanely caloric that will fuck your weekly caloric deficit.

>>76575438
>learn what you can eat within a calorie budget that still leaves you satisfied
I will say, imo it's really not that hard to learn what you can eat. You can figure out in one Saturday. I didn't even use an app, I just made a huuuge spreadsheet with everything that I used to eat and calories /100g for all of the foods, that way I easily identified what to cut(tip: butter, bread, coke, deserts, anything with high amounts of sugar or high amounts of fat, OLIVE OIL is insanity, 1tbsp = 120kcal, dilute it in water and vinegar cause salads taste like shit without it, but use it in heavy moderation). Also, there's so much recipe content out there, 4 hours on Youtube and you'll have low calorie recipes for years to come, you can meal prep if you want, etc etc. Like really, you spent 1 year dieting hard to lose weight and you can't be bothered to spend one day to learn how to eat at maintenance without gaining a shitton of weight? I dunno, I don't buy it.
>>
>>76575494
I think the psychological aspect of fasting will have a greater efficacy than the TBL method which requires a coach and monetary incentive to push you to work out with extreme intensity and a nutritionist planning your entire diet.

A lot of people will always get fat again or stay fat, but fasting would be better at breaking the food addiction by not eating for so long whereas the TBL offsets the continued (extremely low cal) eating with massive amounts of exercise the average person will not be able to handle. This leads to a false perception that you can outwork your diet long term when you did not fix it without a completely tailored plan. It implants the idea that you can go without eating and you can simply opt out rather than requiring an extreme workout to offset even the meagerest of diets.

Plan for mass fasting protocol
>long term initial stay for weight loss and refeeding
>smart scale for daily weighing once exiting facility
>if you gain too much weight, you are told to fast
>hit X% fat gain, you get one more week at the facility

After that, you are left to die as an obese slob and your healthcare costs are 5x base to cover your societal blight. Or you can have the drug intervention at that point, but this method would probably be the best at long term success before resorting to some drug or surgery to fix it.

Same with TRT. Some people need it, but you are better off fixing it yourself than becoming dependent on outside intervention.

I've listened to this a while ago. This guy used ozempic to shed a few kgs to get at race weight and it totally fucked up his athletic abilities. Semaglutides seem like TRT, something pharmaceuticals made up to get you hooked on for life.
Honeslty my biggest issue is that I'm in such a deep depression hole I'm pretty much overeating to die. I wish I could get back on track but I look at my life and future prospects and think, why bother?
>>
>>76575630
I used mounjaro to lose 110lbs and feel fine. I've been off it for 6 months now and lost another 30lbs. Stop being retarded.
>>
>>76575627
This is just a pure bullshit movie though
Yes its right that you shouldn't eat McDonalds but this is a movie based on lies
>>
>>76575627
Are you implying that this is good?
>>
>>76575641
What lies?
>>76575648
What's bad about this movie?

Just starting, but didn't really know anything about it than it was showed in schools.
>>
>>76575630
Why would you take ozempic for cycling, I'm not gonna watch a hour long video
So I'm just gonna assume some things here

When you take the drug you have very little desire to eat and you get fuller faster
This sounds counterproductive to athletic ability in general because you need carbs and calories to fuel yourself
So if you take ozempic you're gonna eat less and have less energy so naturally your performance will drop, and if you're at a high level of athleticism to begin with then calorie differences will have a much more pronounced effect on you

Morgan Spurlock was an alcoholic. He was putting away thousands of calories of alcohol during the filming. So both his weight gain and his blood markers tanking are totally bunk.

I'm not gonna take glp-1's because I'm worried there might be as-of-yet-unknown long-term side effects where your natural satiety hormones get out of whack, similar to how insulin makes you insulin-resistant, test shrinks your balls and coffee withdrawal makes you tired. It's also shilled by Israetel.
>>
>>76575658
All his health issues stem from exteme alcoholism and he would drink even more during the 'experiment'
I don't think I need to tell you that alcohol fucks with your liver and that was like the biggest issue in the movie

How do those people even get prescribed GLPs tho? Like I thought it was meant to treat actual obesity, not slightly overweight 80kg people, I'm pretty sure if I went into a doctors office on 80kg and asked for Ozempic they'd laugh at me
>>
>>76575627
fun fact: I lost my first 10 kg of weight by doing IF and eating at Burger King or McDonald's almost every day.

Hello goobers, funny picture to capture your attention

My cut has been progressing wonderfully, and once I lose 16 more pounds (1200 calories a day diet, carbs are limited) I'll probably go to maintenance caloric intake (~1500-1700 calories) for three weeks and after that, I will go for a bulk and start powerbuilding or powerlifting.
I weigh 146.0lbs right now, can anyone recommend me some good ways to clean bulk so I don't have to deal with massive amounts of fat and remain stuck in this limbo of bulking for 6 months, cutting for 6 months, bulking for 6 months, etc. etc. ?
Thanks again, if this is not the right thread please let me know
>>
>>76575753
The best way to leanbulk (Dietwise) is to eat simply slightly above maintenance with high protein and carbs
Thats it
Everything else is in the details like, how to figure out your maintenance or whatever issues come from trying to be just a slightly bit above maintenance

depends entirely on how big is your deficit. anything over 500 and it because nearly impossible to gain lean mass, but below that it is doable.
>>
>>76575920
Idk, even AI tells me that you can gain muscle while losing fat and its basically the opinion of the internet reurgitated
>>
>plateau and lose only one pound in 10 days from 294 on the 14th to 293 on the 24th
>weighed myself everyday last week while keeping the same deficit, diet, and exercise routine and the weight dropped every single day
>now weigh 285 on the scale
It’s not too impressive but I’m going to use this small win to motivate myself to keep going the next time I plateau.
>>
>>76575920
Are you still fat? I always read the statement as someone who is already very fit on a hard cut/bulk cycle.
>>
>>76575953
I’m still somewhat fat. 225 at 6 foot. I need to be about 200 pounds to be my ideal weight. But yeah I think it’s just a rule of thumbs for Ectomorphs. The type of guys who need to force feed a gallon of milk a day to make gains. I think for meso or endo morphs it’s perfectly reasonable to make gains in a gradual deficit. I personally eat about 1700 calories a day with a lot of protein and I have been steadily making gains both strength wise and visibly hypertrophy gains too
>>
Been a weird month, lads.
>>
>>76575968
Yeah, I would expect if you got very lean, bulked to gain muscle, then went on another cut to get lean you would not have the same type of gains you have right now. Also, there is likely some factor of your body getting into a more efficient state driving the increased strength rather than a strict muscle mass/physique change.
>>
>>76575581
>Like really, you spent 1 year dieting hard to lose weight and you can't be bothered to spend one day to learn how to eat at maintenance without gaining a shitton of weight?
the fact of the matter is that the majority (something like 80%) of fatties who lose weight, regain it and some more after a few years. so no, it's not easy. forming new habits is key to long term success, and you are not going to get that if you use an unsustainable meme diet/weight loss strategy.

Yes. Everyone knows how to lose weight, it's to eat less processed shit and eat less food in general. It takes 10 seconds to look at a nutrition label, scan it for "HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OIL (COTTONSEED BLEND)" and realize you shouldn't eat that shit. But everyone does it because it tastes good and is cheap.
You want to stop being a fat piece of shit in america? buy whole foods and cook everything yourself. No one does that, because there's a mcdonalds on every corner and 2000 calories of seed oils costs $5 (with the rewards app, of course!)

This is incorporating a permanent 7.5% grade on the treadmill.

I lift 3x a week and run (badly and slowly) 2x. I'm ditching the running during this 6 month plan.

I should say, I manged to do this previously and dropped 25lbs from 235 to 210, but I wasn't lifting, and I was treadmill walking upwards of 4 hours daily 5x a week. I ended up exhausted, plateued before hitting my goal, lost all my strength. Finally burned out and bulked back to this 225 for 6 months. Trying to forestall the plateau, strength loss, and burnout this time.

>fatties gonna fat
If you don’t learn to live as a skinny, you'll go right back to being a fatty. But if they knew how to live as a skinny they wouldn't need the drugs. So in general, yes, anyone that uses chemical assistance to achieve what they couldn't do on their own is tied to the chemical.

After losing 27kg and being stable there for ~15 months I went to the gym (it's more of a personal trainer type place for weightlifting).

But now I don't know how to track my weight anymore. I'm now around 75kg (165lbs) at 1.78cm (5'10).
I asked my dad and he said I might not even lose weight from extra exercise, or that I might even gain weight while becoming leaner (more muscle and less fat).

Do I just wing it as long as clothes fit?

Well, I fell off the boat for a bit. Gained 6 pounds. From 160 to 166.

I started shedding hair rapidly, I thought it might be telogen effluvium but it's shedding in a norwood pattern so I can only guess its from greatly increased testosterone from losing over 100 pounds. Stress from this made me stop cardio for a bit and I ate like shit.

I'm not risking my dick with DHT blockers, I'm just gonna hope I stabilize soon and don't recede too much. Maybe a transplant will be enough otherwise I'll just shave and get a hair system.

I'm alternate day fasting right now to get back where I was quickly, 1500 cals one day and 0 the next. I do 10k steps on fasting days and 20k-30k on 1500 cal days.

Wish me luck friends, goal is still 150 pounds.

There is absolutely no reason not to fry chicken.
You dice a breast, dust salt it with salt and baking powder (yes, baking powder), coat it with one tablespoon of oil on top of it, then fry it on a non-stick pan with no additional oil. Then you put it in a stew, or a salad or sauce it up and eat.
